The Marriott Approach vs. Commodity Approach
The Marriott Corporation, one of the nation s largest hotel management companies, has long professed to
adhere to the philosophy that, Good personnel will work for a competent manager. Go to every length to
find, hire, and train good employees and treat them like your family. This is the crux of your whole
operation (Marriott Corporation, 1964). The Marriott Corporation has adopted this position as its
management philosophy for nearly fifty years but it runs contrary to the opposing management philosophy
that basically treats employees as units, or commodities, which exist as units to be strategically managed.
The commodity approach argues that treating employees in such fashion keeps the quality of their work
consistent and avoids the possibility of psychological and interpersonal dysfunctions in the workplace. The
Marriott approach is argued by many modern human resource managers as the more enlightened one. The
traditional approach emphasized the human capital view of employees where employees were viewed as
resources that were utilized by the business to provide monetary return and stability to the organization. It
was the responsibility of the organization s managers to use the individual knowledge, skills and abilities
of the employee in order to maximize the organization s productivity. The traditional view did not attempt
to create a family atmosphere within the organization. Everyone had his or her responsibility and everyone
s value to the organization was

The Reading And Writing Connection
Reading and writing have many connections when it comes to everyday life and school. Students would do
better with by both reading and writing being taught together instead of separately rather than being taught
as two separate lessons. The article lists and discuss multiple ways for teachers to integrate both reading
and writing into their lessons. The article The Reading and Writing connection: Merging Two Reciprocal
Content Areas discuss the connection of reading and writing. It also discusses the integration of the two
can help struggling readers as well.
In today s classrooms they are integrating reading and writing in the same lessons, before they would have
separate lessons one with reading and the other with writing. In the article The Reading and Writing
connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas they talked about have designated times for each
lesson and when that time passed they moved onto the next subject. When not having the connections
between lessons it causes a divide where students cannot make the connections themselves ... Show more

This would include reading and writing. Students will have to read what their pen pal sent but they will
also have to create a response to that person as well. Another way that the article said we could implement
the reading section is trying to collaborate pen pals with similar literary interest and have them read the
same book. This gives them something to also write about and discuss what they read.
Reading and writing connection is the most important part of education, I believe. Every subject will have
to deal with reading and writing. For students to really understand the reading and writing connection they
must allow students to make choices in what they are reading and enjoy the projects that they will
incorporate. If there are not authentic reading writing connections many students will continue to

Illegal Immigrants And The United States Essay
Every year numerous legal and illegal immigrants originate to the United States. From all around a world,
individuals want to arise toward America for an improved existence for them and their families. America is
a freedom oriented country, where everybody has right how to live their life in their own conditions. I
myself, I remain immigrant as well. I came to U.S.A. 5 years ago. American culture remains actual diverse
somewhat from other cultures. In this country, we all get the liberty to live our life. The United States has
permitted additional immigrants to enter the nation than at any past time. Additional Immigrations and
immigrants are good for the American economy, while immigrant does not take away jobs from Americans
they create more job by owning and opening new businesses.
Approximately people believe that immigrants shouldn t be allowed to the United States of America. Since
immigrants take away places and jobs from them, nonetheless this is not entirely true. On another hand, it
is not totally wrong to think that. An immigration does not mean taking jobs away from Americans.
Whoever comes to the USA they have their own goals and ideas that they follow. America is a melting pot
of different cultures and people. Many people who live here are immigrants.
The United States of America is Great Malting Pot, means the mixture of many cultures, languages, and
religions. In the US, all diverse varieties of societies live and make their own life s (Immigration

A Qualitative Study Of Experiences Of Women Using Modern...
The topic that I have chosen is A Qualitative Study of Experiences of Women Using Modern
Contraception in Wakiso Distract, Uganda. This study focuses on thirty women who have undergone
horrible situations when it came to contraception. This case study was conducted from August and
September of 2013. Between these months many women have reported negative feedback for the use of
contraception. This is a major problem, which can affect the way that they use contraception in the future.
The area that is being studied in this article is Wakiso Distract, Uganda. In this area new contraception is
being used. The researchers are taking 30 women from this area and are testing them on what they think
about contraception. Family planning is a high unmet need for families here in Uganda. The high fertility
rates in this area are due to unplanned pregnancies from results of not using contraception s. In this study,
the researchers used thirty women from Wakiso Distract, Uganda. These women have used some form of
contraception for at least one year. To get the information that they needed, they conducted in depth
interviews with the thirty women from Uganda. To do this interview all consent was obtained by each
woman that was being interviewed or tested. The case study is the use of contraception in Uganda. The
information that is provided is anywhere from negative and positive experience while using contraception.
The interviews were based on methods of contraception being used;

Nursing Homes And The Nursing Home Facility
For those who are not familiar with nursing homes , nursing homes is occupied by residents of all
demographic 65 years and older with low function morbidities on their activities of daily living like eating,
bathing, dressing, toileting ,transferring and continence. However, nursing homes provided other services
like skilled nursing ,this are services that provided for non permanent residents .non permanent residents
are patients that come for a short period of time due to need of medical services. Usually, the length of stay
Lange from 90days and above depend on their prognosis. The main reason these patients are admitted to
the nursing home facility for short stay is to receive post hospitalization and post operative care like
intravenous medication, physical and occupational therapy. Each year, millions of older people 65 and
older fall. In fact, more than one out of four older people fall each year. One out of five falls causes a
serious injury such as broken bones or a head injury. Each year, 2.8 million older people are treated in
emergency departments for fall related injuries. (CDC,2015).Fall in the nursing home is a huge problem
.Elder people living in nursing homes die every year due to falls related injury .These falls cause so many
injuries leaving our patient with permanent injury each year. Fall prevention in the long term care it can be

Direct Current (DC) Motors
1.0 Overview of DC Motors
A Direct Current (DC) motor is a broad classification of electric motors that operate from a direct current
(DC). Nearly all mechanical devices used in electric applications are powered by electric motors. Motors
transform electrical energy to mechanical energy. Thus, they are essential for energy conversion in
electrical machines. All types of electrical motors comprise a stationary field commonly referred to as
stator, and a rotating field (or rotor). According to Krishnan, (2010), the mechanism of operation of DC
motors is based on the interaction between electric current and the ... Show more content on

Rizzoni (2004) asserts that when electrical energy is supplied to the windings perpendicular to the
direction of the magnetic field, the flowing current and the magnetic field will interact. As a result,
mechanical energy will be produced by the magnetic field, leading to motion. Fleming s Left Hand Rule
can be used to determine the direction of the motion
Figure 1: Fleming s Left Hand Rule (Rizzoni, 2004) The direction of both the magnetic field and the
current are pointed by the first and second fingers respectively. The thumb indicates the direction in which
the conductor is pushed by effects of the magnetic field (Rizzoni, 2004).
1.3 Operation Principles of a DC Motor
In order to demonstrate the operating principles of a DC motor, this paper will focus on a coil subjected to
a magnetic field with a flux density of B (Hambley et al., 2008). When a D.C voltage is supplied to the
coil, it induces current to flow through the coil. The electric current and the magnetic field will therefore
interact and create a force that pushes the coil to move in the direction shown in Figure 2 below.
Figure 2: Torque production in a DC motor (Hambley et al., 2008)
A practical DC motor comprises several coils wound on the rotor as shown in Figure 1. The coils are
aligned in the direction of the force that induces them to rotate. The current flowing in the coil is directly
proportional to the magnetic field produced as well as the rate

College Observation
There are many factors that I can improve on in the future for the next observations. First of all the
organization of the data along with the time measurement are improvements that can be made. Instead of
measuring five minutes I would measure every 15 minutes, making it four rounds in one hour. Within that
hour we can also use a timer so that we don t lose track of time. Also the time that we had to measure was
on a Monday and Wednesday, for the next observation I would add in a Tuesday or Thursday. Since the
observation was done on a campus we didn t get different age ranges besides the college age. By
measuring data at a Chic Fil A in the public we would get a wider range of ages, genders, and race. The
diversity level was also low so in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have learned the hard way that it is better to just bring your own lunch then wait for the lines at Chic Fil
A or other restaurants to go down. By the time that we get our food we only have a couple of minutes
before our next class. There is so much activity to measure in that hour and in that place. The theme from
this observation was gender, age and race majority that ordered at Chic Fil A. The majority of the students
who ordered here make up the 72% population who are white at CMU, therefore it was not a surprise that
they were the majority of the clients (College Factual, 2013). But there are about 8% more females on
campus, but males ordered more than females (College Factual, 2013). To find out why they chose to eat
at Chic Fil A would be a different research project. I am researching the gender, age, and race of the people
at the university center that order Chic Fil A. I decided to research this because I have noticed the crazy
long line during lunch ever since they opened the restaurant in the beginning of the year. I thought it would
be interesting to learn which students at the school are the top buyers. Eating patterns are something that I
was able to see during this observation. With all the new fast food, corporate restaurants that are coming to
campus it s easy for students to get fed at a faster

Pros And Cons Of Enlightenment In The French Revolution
The common understanding taught in American schools of the French Revolution is one of a downtrodden
peasant class being inspired by the Enlightenment philosophes to rise up and overthrown the despotic
monarch. This understanding correlates with American values of freedom, anti tyranny, and success of the
underdog. By constructing such a narrative, the French Revolution is given American values. However, as
asserted by Darnton in the aforementioned quotation, the French Revolution s spark did not begin with the
teeming masses of neglected commoners. Instead, Enlightenment thought permeated the upper echelons of
society for two key reasons: cost and literacy. Compilations of Enlightenment thoughts were distilled and
included into the relatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The freeing of the peasants from the noble dominated social hierarchy did not include freeing women from
the entrenched patriarchy. Enlightenment thought seemingly included women under the natural rights of
man, but in reality, women were excluded and denied equality. Initially, women were seen as equals
among men, but their subservient role was reasserted and potential gains in equality were lost. For
example, American independence was popularized in order to mobilize the entire society, yet only white
male landowners were given the opportunity to participate in government and allowed the right to vote.
Not until the twentieth century did women achieve universal suffrage. The century lapse in equality begs
the question of whether more could have been done during the tumultuous revolutions of the late
eighteenth century to spur gender

Why Negotiations Occur Within An Organization
Introduction This research paper pursues two aims. First is to illustrate why negotiations occur within an
organization. This will be done through examining the dimensionality of negotiation and dispute
resolution. Second is to address some of the challenges of negotiating. Included as a part of this, is an
analysis of the different tones and styles to adopt when negotiating, which may aid towards overcoming
these challenges. The main aim of this research is to outline the issues and broadly develop the argument
and evidence in support of each party s position towards trying to achieve a win win solution. Abstract

First type of employment contract Conflict may also bear as a result of the very nature of the work
organization, a battle of ideas that takes place where implications may occur. This perspective is relevant
to a debate surrounding the promotion of the psychological contract, which is seen as the perception of the
two parties, employee and employer, of what their mutual obligations are towards each other (Guest, D.
and Conway, N.). The psychological contract consists of the expectations that employees have with their
employing organizations. The implications of this are implicit. The complexity of this contract leaves
room for misinterpretations, however, ensuring that the terms and conditions have been made clear
through open and honest discussions with mutual expectations and obligations will limit the conflict.
Second type of employment contract The other type of contract, the employment relationship, Kevin
Kelloway explains as, a form of work that is performed under contractual arrangements that involves
material rewards (Kelloway, K.). This allows for a level of managerial control towards forming the
fundamental link between desired outcomes and actual processes. Entering into an employment relations,
the employer buys the employees capabilities to work, known as, labour power, this takes the notion of
Marx s formulation. Whereby he developed the theory that

Definition Essay On Unconditional Love
The definition of love is an intense feeling of deep affection. The love between two people should always
be conditional. You can fall out of love because you are able to fall in love.
Conditional love can be earned by gaining loyalty and trust in another person. When you express
conditional love you love the person because of how they treat you and love you. Unconditional love is
being able to love someone no matter what. When you express unconditional love for someone you care
about the happiness of another person without knowing what the other person s intentions are.
I prefer to offer and receive conditional love because I would not want to give false love or get false love.
For example, if my boyfriend told me I look good in everything and I decided to wear a purple striped shirt
with orange pants, Will I look good then? Another example is, If my boyfriend cheated on me with one of
my friends, do I accept the fact and still love him? Love requires trust and commitment from both people
in a relationship.
Conditional love depends on what you do rather than who you are. For example, a boy tells a girl she is
beautiful because she does not wear makeup or if your best friend is only supportive until you make a
mistake. Those are examples of conditional love because the boy thinks she is beautiful only because she
is not wearing makeup, and your best friend is only there for you until something bad goes wrong. Being
able to recognize conditional love will allow you to

Essay About Ice Hockey
Ice hockey is a very fun and active sport a lots of people enjoy it because they can be a little rough. You
can push people over and just rough house. In the olympics they decided to put ice hockey because they
thought it was really interesting sport and they also put it in like 1875. They really like ice hockey because
you can spice up things and have fun if you know how to use skates.
The point of the game is to indicate a position in side the opposition blue line along the edges of the rings.
Two teams of skates use their sticks to shoot a rubber puck into the opponent to make a point. The team
gets points of they hit the puck into the net. Well they are scored by getting the puck in to the net from the
opposite team. They are calculated by how many times the puck gets into the net. What ever team has the
most points at the end will win the game. A game is 60 min long which is broken up into 20 min of playing
time. In both men and women ice hockey they have a record. the record for the men is a slam shot. The

A Good Relationship With My Father
The first time my father yelled at me I was six years old. I mean really raised his voice. My father had
never used that kind of a tone with me before so naturally I was equally surprised as scared. As I grew
older and connected events I realized my father had been upset, not because I was out of bed late at night,
but because my mother had been discussing their separation that night. Up until the age of six I had an
ideal relationship with my father, I suppose as normal as any other six year old child could have with their
parents. I won t try to argue that in order to have a good relationship with another human you have to live
in the same house as they do or even in the same state or country, but the farther you are the more difficult
it will be to obtain an ideal relationship or connection with that person. A good relationship can be defined
in multiple ways and each person has their own take on it. I believe that to truly have a good, grounded,
relationship with someone you need to be able to trust that person, enjoy their company, and accept the
person for who they are. In a genuine relationship two people should be able to trust each other, to not
have any doubt in the other person. Trust is the key component to a healthy relationship and it provides a
sense of safety which allows for higher levels of intimacy (Colleen Ekback). Depending on who the other
person is, may it be a parent, sibling, another relative or a significant other, the doubtfulness will differ. It

Women, Slaves, and Free Blacks in the Civil War What roles did the Northern women play in the war
effort on the Union side during the Civil War? What roles did the Southern women play in the war effort
on the Confederate side during the Civil War? How did the war affect each group? There were just shy of
400 documented cases of women who served as soldiers during the Civil War, according to the records of
the Sanitary Commission. (Brown, 2012) Women during the 19th century, according to Historian Barbara

There were others that were about of the regiments in which the male relative was serving. These women

had a great effect on the women of both the North and the South. Without them, I don t believe there
would have been enough nurses to have saved the men they did and there wouldn t have been anything at
home for all left on the home front. Because of the war, we have great American History about women and
the impact they had on the Civil War and after. Which I believe led to a huge part of the Women s Rights
Movement. What roles did the Black slaves play in the Civil War? What roles did the free Blacks play in
the Civil War? How did the war affect each group? It took a clear and dire urging from the beloved
General Robert E. Lee to convince the Confederate Congress to begin enlisting black soldiers. (Civil War

being afraid of what it would do to the white men s morale, he rejected the blacks from volunteering for

The Treaty Of Versailles and Establishment of Peace
The Treaty Of Versailles established an uneasy peace. I will prove this by looking at such factors as The
Big Three s lust for revenge on the Germans, the four major problems encountered when composing the
treaty, the final terms of the treaty and the Germans anger at it.
The Big Three were three powerful leaders from three powerful nations. They would be Woodrow Wilson,
Georges Clemenceau and David Lloyd George, of the USA, France and the UK respectively. These great
men would decide the fate of Germany.
Woodrow Wilson wanted to create a League of Nations which was a new organisation which could end
disputes between countries without wars. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war ran through France and therefore people s homes, land and other property were destroyed. All the
countries who were lost went into debt, therefore the Germans had to pay war reparations, despite the
damage not being entirely the fault of Germany.
Self determination also caused problems and nationalist groups were keener than ever to rule themselves
and be free of their empires. Woodrow Wilson encouraged self determination, as he saw smaller countries
less of a threat. This was included in the Treaty of Versailles.
Russia was taken over by communists in 1917. It was spreading all around the world. Capitalist countries
were scared that the communists would take over. Communists wanted everyone to be equal. (Communist
countries were denied membership to the League of Nations.)
Twenty million people died in WWI. There had never been a war like it. It was meant to be the war to end
all wars, but failed to succeed, Consequently causing more problems.
The following points were decided and written on the final Treaty of Versailles.
Alsace Lorraine must be returned to France after being stolen in 1871. The French PM, Georges
Clemenceau wanted it back.
The Rhineland, in between Germany and France will remain part of Germany, but no German military
forces are permitted to enter, because it would be the optimum point to attack France.

College Go To College Essay
College Is the Best Thing You Can Do for Yourself
Many high school seniors choose to go to college over getting a job. They all make this decision with the
belief that it will be more beneficial in the end. With this hope in mind, students are willing to pay
thousands of dollars anticipating that it will have a greater payoff in the end. Although many people
oppose this theory, students worldwide are willing to take the chance. Attending school for a couple more
years is well worth it. With the goal of overall security and eradication of financial stress, attending college
is more likely to foster success in the end. College teaches young adults valuable life lessons that benefit
them in the future. The biggest lesson college taught me is that I m fully responsible for everything that
happens to me says Benjamin Houy (Brooks 1), meaning that your professors will not make sure you are
in class and getting your work done on time. At the same time, you will learn how to take charge of your
own learning. Most of the time in college, the answers do not come easily, you ll have plenty of
opportunities trying to find a way to acquire the skills you need to turn your dreams into a reality (Brooks
1). While attending college, you will be gaining knowledge on tasks like budgeting, multi tasking, note
taking, and working with others. As these lessons are not taught in courses (Hoyt 1), they are learned
throughout your experiences during your time on campus. If you don t worry about yourself in college,
nobody else is going to do it for you states Elizabeth Hoyt, explaining how you need to take care of
yourself and become independent. These skills become especially useful in the workplace when you will
have to work together with co workers to get an assignment done for your employer. College has the
ability to change a person s life in many positive ways. Each year you attend college, the higher your
annual salary becomes. Rachel Beckstead explains how adults with a high school diploma earn $35,256
while those who obtained a master s degree earn an average of $69,732. Nearly double than if you ended
your education after high school. As going to college open doors, you can increase your job options simply

I also used to compete at national level in judo. From my experiences of these sports, and because I spend

Additionally I am also studying an Active IQ Level 2 Fitness Instructing course, in this course I learn even

Whilst at university I hope to gain more knowledge and qualifications which will support me in

life changing opportunities and experiences. I also hope to continue

George Orwell s The Film V For Vendetta Directed By James...
In society, people often look up to our government to provide honourable and righteous justice that
upholds our basic human rights .Through the analysis of dystopian texts including 1984 written by George
Orwell, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr, and the film V for Vendetta directed by James Mcteigue,
the concept of a totalitarian government that exerts control over to the senses is explored throughout all
these texts. The stripping of privacy and freedom demonstrates this control over the mass of society. The
demonization of the enemy through propaganda creates fear in society of the enemy thus allowing the
government to sustain control. Finally, law enforcing bodies help in keeping order and control in society

This demonstrates Winston s anxiety and fear of being observed by the thought police. The government
creates an environment where its citizens understand that the slightest demonstration of rebellion which
could be as small as a nervous tic or an unconscious look of anxiety that could lead to the vaporization of
an individual. The angst of looking anything but in complete admiration of Big Brother leads citizens into
a state of constant panic of watching what they do. The government uses this to control their people
however they decide as a result of nobody being able to rebel the lack of privacy or freedom that the
government provides. Similarly, the use of handicaps in Harrison Bergeron written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr,

Regional Anesthesia Essay
DISSCUSION The effect of Regional anesthesia is more favorable than general anesthesia. (9) Regional
anesthesia will improve outcomes by avoiding intubation and mechanical ventilation, significantly
reducing blood loss. (10) This study revealed that Combined femoral / sciatic nerve block by U.S / Nerve
stimulator technique was more produce longer duration of analgesia, less incidence of hypotension,
bradycardia than patient received combined spinal epidural in patient with fracture both bone leg. Regional
anesthesia (RA) techniques, including neuraxial and peripheral nerve block, lead to decrease in

the peripheral nerve or plexus delivers a smaller volume to the targeted nerve without injury to it or its
surrounding structures. Therefore, the identification of the target nerve by nerve stimulator and ultrasound
is important to provide better efficacy and safety in regional anesthesia. Historically, for obscure reasons
sciatic nerve blocks have been among the least performed procedures but now with combining nerve

Using ginger during pregnancy is not yet fully established as safe since there are some controversies which
involve miscarriage in the 12th week of pregnancy as well as the possibility that it can affect fetal sex
hormones. People who are breastfeeding, have bleeding disorders, heart conditions and diabetes must
avoid using ginger.

The Battle Of Santa Rosa Island
After several months of battles between the north and the south in several states, including North Carolina,
Virginia, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, the war reached Florida in 1861. The first battle to reach
Florida occurred when there was a standoff at Fort Pickens. When Florida seceded from the Union, there
were Union soldiers stationed at Fort Pickens that were asked to surrender. A force of almost 1,000
volunteer soldiers landed on Santa Rosa Island with the intent of raiding the outlying defenses and camps
near Fort Pickens. General Richard H. Anderson led these soldiers. Mainly the Sixth New York Infantry
Regiment defended the forts and camps. Soon after the Confederates burned and ransacked the Union
camp, reinforcements were sent from Fort Pickens to assist the confused Union soldiers. The Confederates
had 18 killed, 39 wounded, and 30 imprisoned soldiers, while the Union had 14 killed, 29 wounded, and
20 imprisoned. By March 1862, the Confederates completely withdrew from the area. This battle became
known as the Battle of Santa Rosa Island because the union troops landed on Santa Rosa Island, four miles
east of Fort Pickens. Most of the civil war took place in the states of Virginia and Tennessee but two major
battles of and several smaller altercations took place in the state of Florida. On February 20, 1864 the
largest civil war battle in Florida took place near Lake City. This battle occurred a year after the

Describe at least one of these experiments and explain the significance of the findings. In one of the
experiments, Mary Gasseling took a little patch of tissue, early in development, from what would be the
pinky side of a limb bud. She took that tissue and put it on the opposite side right beneath where the first
finger would form. The chick would develop and form a wing; the new fingers were also copies of the
normal set. Basically, the tissue (more specifically some molecule or gene inside the tissue) was able to
direct the development of the pattern of the fingers. This led to further experiments that defined the ZPA,
or the zone of polarizing activity. This patch of tissue is able to determine the difference between the pinky
side and the thumb side. 2. Describe the hedgehog gene using several animal examples. Be sure to explain
its function and its region of activity in the body. Hedgehog is a gene active in ZPA. ZPA is only located in

Essay about Design of a Reconfigurable Hybrid Database System
Design of a Reconfigurable Hybrid Database System.
Disc Resident database systems (DRDBS) are conventional databases systems in which data is
permanently stored on discs. In Main Memory Database Systems (MMDBS) , the databases are stored
onto the main memory. As the memory locations can be accessed directly using addresses, they allow very
fast access to the data stored on them. They show better throughput in processing transactions and respond
much more quickly than DRDBS. Because of the fast data access, the performance of MMDBS tends to
rely on the computing power of the machine being used. In Reconfigurable Hardware Database Systems
(RHWDBS) transaction processing speeds are boosted using reconfigurable computing platforms that ...

Introduction When I was young, poverty was so common that we didn t know it had a name a quote by
Lyndon B. Johnson.(Brainy Quotes) We all have witnessed or experienced poverty in our lives whether we
identify or not are not the points of my study. I want people to see the numbers do not lie and we have to
help with this huge increase of poverty. Poverty affects families, groups and individuals especially the
children where the UK is concerned. The major reason for these kids and families experiencing poverty
are the low wages, low benefits or having no income at all. The results of children poverty can lead to

In my research on child poverty, I read a scholarly journal entitled UNICEF Child Poverty in Perspective
Report: A view from the UK. In the journal they compared the conditions of the children living across the
world in the industrialized countries. UK was found as the poorest of them all. This comparison was on
average against 21 countries. These reports were started in 2000, where they resembled a report card of the
comparisons but the latest one was February 2007. The report has some interesting and detailed
information on contributing factors on children poverty. The first contributor I will discuss is emotional
and social issues for poor children. These problems include impulsive behaviors, lack of social skills,
anxiety, depression and low self esteem. These problems make it difficult for future success in school or
work as they grow. (UNICEF) Emotional children may begin to feel helpless and start to separate from the
crowd to avoid embarrassment. They have to deal with the looks and comments of people who are more
fortunate talking down to them. There s a feeling of helplessness and questions on why they have to be
less fortunate. This may lead to counseling in more severe situations. Then there is the part poverty plays
in the educational development as well. There are times when poverty may mean no dinner the night
before or not enough breakfast that morning. Poverty is the leading threat to children s

Desire Under The Elms By Eugene O Neill
Desire Under the Elms by Eugene O Neill is a modern twist on the mythological tale of Phaedra and
Hippolytus. In writing this piece, in 1924, O Neill delivers a captivating and somewhat comical version of
the classic myth. Stuck in the transition from the Modernism to Postmodernism movements, O Neill
struggled to define himself as either a modernist or postmodernist. The Modernism movement is made up
of a variety of different movements: philosophical, artistic, and literary. The artistic and literary
Modernism movement, which occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century, is marked by the concepts
of experimentation and individualism, signifying sudden breaks with traditional values of literature,
philosophy, and culture. In comparison, postmodernism, which developed in the mid to late 20th century
held the idea that reality is not based on societal understanding of it, but, on individual perception and
interpretation. While both have similarities, the perceptions of individuality in these movements differ on a
relatively large scale.
In the Modernist movement, it was socially correct to adhere to what was specifically deemed acceptable.
In contrast, in the postmodernist movement, one style of living was not any less acceptable than another
because each person determined what is considered valuable to them individually. Though modernism and
postmodernism are marked by distinctive ways of thinking and social norms, these periods actually faced
quite an overlap. While

Essay On The Composition Of Capital Inflows
In figure 3, Cho and Rhee (2014) show the composition of capital flows for all 10 Asian Countries
excluding Hong Kong and Singapore. While the FDI was quiet stable, the portfolio investment part

like bank loans, declined since 2007; nevertheless, it rebounded over than the pre crisis level and became
the major source of capital inflows after GFC. Cho and Rhee (2014) explain the composition of capital
inflows by individual country in figure 4. It is easily to notice that both financial hubs, Hong Kong and

Increasing money impacts Asian economy on capital flows and on either exchange rates or housing prices
significantly. The result of this section is quiet interesting. The QE of US brought huge capital inflows into
Asian economies. There are two ways that it can influence: 1) a large amount money flows into the
emerging markets to buy their currencies which investors expected they would increase values relative to
USD; then, the expectation caused the appreciation of currencies. 2) however, if the central banks of some
certain economies try to stabilize their exchange rates not to appreciate, the effect of QE would show in
the housing markets, the most important household assets in most Asian countries. In real terms, Cho and
Rhee (2014) indicates in the figure 5 that the housing prices nearly double in Hong Kong and India since
the fourth quarter in 2008 to 2012. Also, in Taiwan, the housing prices rose by almost 60%. In Malaysia, it
increased by around 30%. Economies with stable or rigid exchanges suffer from large increasing in the
housing prices. Figure 6, calculated by Cho and Rhee (2014), demonstrates the relationship between
exchange rates and housing prices. From the figure 6, it is obvious that Japan is an outlier. As a result, we
show two situations in the figure 6, with and without Japan. Including Japan in the calculation, the
correlation coefficient between exchange rates and housing prices is o.84.

Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment is a type of physical punishment that has been allowed in 19 states to be used as a
way of discipline for misbehaving children. This physical punishment is mostly relating to spanking or
paddling. A policy that legal near the south at most. [a] These days, corporal punishment should be used
today because kids need to know obedience and should use this punishment as a way to wake them up[b].
Corporal punishment should be allowed because it is a lasting punishment, is able to to shape bad students,
[c]and can permanently affect students as they grow in the future.
Other punishments aren t as long lasting.[d] For example, being suspended is like a vacation, students don
t learn anything. Being expelled offers students a longer vacation as they don t need to go to school and
just think about what they have done.[e] This has teachers waiting to keep them caught up as they finally

When students receive out of school suspension, they miss out on instruction time, and they teacher is not
obligated in any way to help that student catch up, This quote represents how tedious it will be and how
ineffective having these suspensions and being expelled can bring. On the other hand, paddling brings a
real threat to the students as it is something long lasting and can permanently sting you in the future. It

Derek realized that hatred towards people did not help him, his family, or the situation at hand. Instead of
being negative and destructive, why not be positive. Hurting people and destroying property does not solve
problems, but only makes them worse by causing more resentment and tension between people (Theriou).
Nothing good has ever come out of a situation where one person has been the victim of a crime or abuse.
Good things come out of situations where people show hospitality, good will, and compassion; not hatred.
It is made very clear that Derek and Danny have no affiliations with the Ku Klux Klan. Derek calls the
KKK a bunch of disorganized rednecks that very inanely run around with sheets on their heads. Instead
they are part of a Neo Nazi group in Southern California. In America today there are estimated to be about

In more simple terms, sexism is the false idea that one sex is superior or inferior to the other. In sociology,
sociologists focus on the differences that are determined by society, culture, and gender. It is believed by
social scientists that gender differences are not caused by biological differences. Although humans are
born male or female, individuals must learn and understand masculine or feminine behaviors. Therefore,
gender differences are a result of socialization, discrimination, prejudice, and other forms of social control.
For example, in the United States, a strong patriarchal system is enforced among Mormon
Fundamentalists. From a conflict and feministic perspective, gender inequality or sexism exists because it
benefits a group in the position of power and with power to shape society. This power group is men. The
theorists within these two perspectives argue that as long as men maintain their social, economic, and
cultural advantage within society that women will remain in their subordinate position. This subordinate
position women have within society is linked to their relationship to the means of production (Leon
Guerrero, 2014). Statistically speaking, women who work 41 to 44 hours per week earn 84.6% of what
men make working similar hours. However, women who work more than 60 hours per week only earn
about 78.3% of what men do. In addition,

It was in December 1993 that Clinton issued a defense directive that military candidates should not be
asked about their sexual orientation (Washington Post). This allowed gays who were not openly gay to
serve in the military, however it still prohibited openly gay people to serve in the military. Over the years,
the law has faced its share of challenges, many which ended up in a court room. In 2006, the Supreme
Court unanimously upheld Don t Ask, Don t Tell, and the law was also upheld five times in federal courts
(Washington Post). These doings have ultimately led up to the most recent actions involving the law. In
2008, President Obama campaigned on the promise that he would fully repeal the law (Washington Post).
In 2010, both the Senate and House of Representatives voted to repeal the law, allowing President Obama
to sign the repeal. (USNI) This repeal effectively ended a 17 year ban on open gays being able to serve in
the United States military. Don t Ask, Don t Tell had two major players, Bill Clinton who put the law into
place and Barack Obama who repealed the law. In 1993, when Clinton put the law into effect, the goal was
that military men and women would be evaluated on their conduct rather than their sexual orientation.
(Klapper) This would also place into effect the law that military personnel could not be asked about their
orientation throughout the enlistment process. (Klapper) Lastly, if there were a presumption made about

The Upper Room Discourse ( John 13-17 )
The Upper Room Discourse (John 13 17) marked the end of Jesus three year ministry and served to be
Jesus farewell address to the beloved apostles. During Jesus final moments with the apostles, Jesus would
proceed to institute a new blood covenant (Luke 22:20; Mark 14:24) and provide final instructions and
encouragement to the apostles before facing the sorrow, rejection, betrayal, and death for which Jesus had
come into this world (Houdmann, n.d.). Thus, the final moments between Jesus and the apostles revealed
countless theological truths that were demonstrated through word, deed, admonishment, and prophecy
(Douglas Tenney, 2010).
Before revealing those truths, Jesus would have to settle a dispute (Luke 22:24) amongst the apostles ...

Jesus departure also created anxiety and questions amongst the apostles (Pentecost, 1981). Thus, in the
narrative of John 13:36 14:31, Jesus lovingly admonishes the apostles with the command of Let not your
heart be troubled (Wiersbe, 2007). As a consequence of this command, Jesus promised the apostles a place
in heaven along with Christ s return (John 14:3), assurance that Christ was the way to the Father (John
14:6), and a permanent, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16; Acts 13:52) who would be the
apostle s teacher (Luke 12:12) in Jesus absence (Gromacki, 1978). Most profound is the fact that with
Jesus ascension into heaven, the apostles would benefit in Jesus absence (John 14:9) with greater spiritual
power (Pentecost, 1981). Additionally, Jesus also revealed the divine essence of the Godhead (John 14:9)
while further defining the true essence of Christianity, Ye in me, I in you (Gromacki, 1978).
As Jesus continued instructing the apostles in John 15:1 16:4, attention was turned to the apostle s present
condition and how the great commission could be fulfilled (Pentecost, 1981). In the metaphor of the vine

Essay on Low Birth Weight
Low Birth Weight
Low birth weight (LBW) is a term used to describe infants that are born under 2, 500 grams, or less than
five pounds eight ounces. This is a disorder that plagues certain races, age groups, and the poor. Seven
percent of all infants who are born in the United States are born too small and eleven percent are born too

as there are many complications early and later in life for the child.
There are certain women who are more likely to have a child who is born extremely under weight. These
influences can be ethnic, environmental, and genetic. Recent studies have shown that thirty to forty

The environment of a woman during her pregnancy directly relates to the size of the baby at birth.
Families living in poor income families have a greater number of LBW children. Women who are involved
in abusive relationships are also putting there unborn children at risk. This doesn t only include physical
abuse, but mental also. Women who are in stressful relationships or environments are more likely to give
birth to low birth weight children (LBW At a Glance).
There are a few things that a woman can do to decrease the risk. The first is to stop smoking, this is the
leading cause of LBW. A healthy diet and exercise are also important. Prenatal care is important in all
pregnancies. Prenatal care has not been directly linked to preventing LBW, however, it doesn t hurt.
There are so many problems that can occur when dealing with a LBW child. These babies are much more
susceptible to infection because of their size (Zaichkin 191). They are also at a greater risk for SIDS. SIDS
is sudden infant death syndrome. The risk of this horrible syndrome is much greater with a low birth
weight child (322). These children are also at a thirty to fifty percent greater risk of being re hospitalized
during their first year of life (355). They are also at a much higher risk of getting Cerebral Palsy.
These children are much more likely to have brain damage, liver problems, and lung difficulties

The Government Protecting Citizens from Corruption
Introduction The fundamental ground of our democracy is The First Amendment that gives its citizens the
promise of freedom of expression. The First Amendment may be seen as a concept of basic freedom,
which carries the idea that it, is more important to practice rather than to protect it. Regardless if a person
is liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, the role within the United States government is to
carry out essential responsibilities its citizens cannot perform. The United States citizens are responsible of
electing politicians into government positions to solve the problems the country faces. One of those
problems is corruption.
The power of money is at the center of political corruption and even though fraud has been in existence for
a long time, in recent years it has become a lot worse. In the past when politicians sought to run for office
each individual had to raise a few thousand dollars, businesses in the past were smaller, manageable and
the risk factors were minimal. Currently political contributions run in the millions, making Washington a
booming business. Most of the money that is raised goes to lobbyist, campaign aids, deceiving PR
operations, and pretentious grass roots groups. The American citizens have felt the repercussion with the
political and lobbying establishments who are now in control of the public debates and the policy making
process all for the benefit of the well financed special interest groups. My paper will focus on how the

Corporate Restructure
Corporate Restructuring Motives and Methods
Corporate restructuring is one of the most complex and fundamental phenomena that management
confronts. Each company has two opposite strategies from which to choose: to diversify or to refocus on
its core business. While diversifying represents the expansion of corporate activities, refocus characterizes
a concentration on its core business. From this perspective, corporate restructuring is reduction in
diversification. This involves a significant change in one or more of the following * Pattern of ownership
and control * Composition of liability * Asset mix of the firm.
It is a comprehensive process by which a company can consolidate its business operations and strengthen

such as sales, marketing, amp; distribution. 8. Renegotiation of labor contracts to reduce overhead. 9.

reposition the company with consumers.
Corporate Restructuring entails a range of activities including financial restructuring and organization
restructuring.
Financial Restructuring
Financial restructuring is the reorganization of the financial assets and liabilities of a corporation in order
to create the most beneficial financial environment for the company. Just about every business goes
through a phase of financial restructuring at one time or another. In some cases, the process of
restructuring takes place as a means of allocating resources for a new marketing campaign or the launch of
a new product line. When this happens, the restructure is often viewed as a sign that the company is
financially stable and has set goals for future growth and expansion.
Need For Financial Restructuring
Process of financial restructuring may be undertaken as a means of eliminating waste from the operations
of the company. The restructuring effort may find that two divisions or departments of the company
perform related functions and in some cases duplicate efforts. In some cases, financial restructuring is a
strategy that

Electromagnetic Radiation and Electron
Nietkalieva Dinara IS113k
Lab 1: Radio and Light Waves Virtual Lab
1) How is the radiating electric field (or electromagnetic signal) produced when radio stations broadcast?
Include a description of what is producing the signal as well as the reasoning behind how this could
produce a signal. We know that electromagnetic radiation is produced by accelerating charges. In the radio
transmitter, electrons oscillate up and down and are thus accelerating. An electron will exert a force on
another electron when they are some distance away, like charges repel. When the electron in the
transmitter oscillates up and down, the direction of the force it exerts changes since the source of the force
is moving. It takes some time for the change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wavelength of the wave the distance between the peak of one wave and the peak of the next, between
the minimum of one and the minimum or the next, or between any two points the encompass one complete
wave cycle. Equivalently, this is the distance the wave travels from when say the electron is at the peak of
its motion and the next time it gets to the peak of its motion. Either way this is about 10 or so grid points.
5) If the amplitude is increased, what happens to the wavelength? The wavelength stays the same
The amplitude affects the strength of the force, that is the length of the force vectors in the electromagnetic
wave. The wavelength of the wave depends only on the frequency with which the electron in the
transmitting antenna is oscillating up and down; and the speed of light.
Wavelength x Frequency = Speed of Light
6) If the oscillation frequency of the transmitting electron decreases, the oscillation frequency of the
electron in the receiver is instantaneously affected.
It is False:
The electron in the receiving antenna feels only the force resulting from the electromagnetic wave at its
current location. It only receives the transmitting electron because of the effects that the transmitting
electron has on the electromagnetic waves. So the receiving

Willy Loman In Willy Of A Salesman
Willy Loman is trapped in his life, often being suffocated by the things around him, but what is really
trapping him in these bricks and windows, bricks and windows is himself. Willy is trapping himself from
achieving success. In his head, success is thought as the same by everyone else in the society, to be rich,
have kids, and a house. The reason why Willy himself can t achieve it, is because of the things in his life
happening around him that makes his mind think differently. For example, his two sons. Willy had thought
highly of them back when they were younger, especially Biff because they were both hotshots at their high
school. Even Biff admits that his dad pressured him to much to do well in school, which led him to getting
nowhere in life saying Biff: I stole myself out of every good job since high school! Willy: And whose fault
is that? Biff: And I never got anywhere because you blew me so full of hot air I could never stand taking
orders from anybody! That s whose fault it is! Willy: I hear that! Linda: Don t, Biff! (131). This
conversation Willy had with Biff had changed his mindset on how he raised his child, he once thought he
was motivating his sons but it ended up making his sons so pressured to not end up doing anything with
their life. When Willy had come home from a business trip to see his sons broke and jobless not even
achieving success themselves, it had ruin Willy s success as well, wanting his children to exceed in life.

Indian Reservations
When the settlers invaded the Indian s homeland, they weren t happy about it. They were very angry.
Some were forced out of their homeland, and others decided to stay because they were afraid to leave. The
people who stayed were put into reservations. Reservations still exist today; it is land that is reserved for
Indians under a treaty or an agreement. The Indians didn t want to be put into reservations, but they had no
other option but to agree with the government. I looked into the reservations and they still exist today. The
Indian Country Today states that there is a housing crisis in Indian country. Despite the Indian Housing

it is horrible what they re going through after all of these years, you would think that they re living

The World s Economic Superpower Essay
War has a way of bringing economies out of trouble. World War II for example, brought the United States
out of the great depression and cemented them as the world s greatest economy. War, however, has no
place on the horizon for China if they want to become the world s economic superpower. China relies too
heavily on foreign influence and investment to take a risk on nationalistic or militaristic gains. While there
are some pro conflict forces who have power within China, these desires will go unrealized as long as
supreme leader Xi Jinping is in power. He understands the interests of China as how important it is for
them to maintain positive international relationships, especially with technically advanced nations such as
Russia and the United States. The vast extent of international trade through globalization, the large
quantity of foreign investment, and the need for peaceful growth all motivate Xi Jinping to overpower the
war prone forces among ruling groups in China and keep the country on a path towards prosperity, not
war. As one of the great producing nations on this planet, China needs to maintain open and free trading
throughout the world. This open trading and globalization has greatly benefited China as jobs are created
and wealth and power sees unprecedented growth in the country (Wang 234). Beyond increasing
prosperity, China s trade network has given the CCP the opportunity to borrow the institutions and emulate
the practices of the industrialized

Since the first video games were developed in the 1950 the gaming industry haven t looked back since.
Throughout the century video games has gone through a huge development where the entire planet spend

Many gamers felt that the accusations made against them were unfair and therefore we need to see it from
two sides, Saarkeesian side and the gamer s side. From a gamers point of view many people will argue that
Sarkeesian s journalistic integrity isn t so reliable and here is why: At the beginning of the speech
Sarkeesian tells us about how she always used to play games since she was 10 years old, but this isn t
entirely true. Because Sarkeesian actually admit during an interview with a professor called Melanie that
she don t play videogames at all. But then again Sarkeesian talks to an audience, who is already taking her
side of the story, so her integrity isn t on the line here. Its therefore important to take the context into

Imagery In Nikki Giovanni s Knoxville, Tennessee
Images are important as images can speak a great number of words. Nikki Giovanni s poem Knoxville,
Tennessee uses imagery to depict the theme of joys of childhood and family. The lines you can eat fresh
corn/from daddy s garden (lines 3 4) depicts an image of a comfortable family feel with a home style vibe.
The imagery of the food can help contribute to the theme as the unidentified person has ate with his family
and is reminiscing about it showing the love and importance of family. The simplicity of the words fresh
and daddy are strong words which help show the image in your mind. The lines, and be warm/ all the time/

diction to illustrate the theme of joys of childhood and family. The lines and okra/and greens/and

diction is repetitive and simple. The repetition of the word and with the simplicity of the words show that
the writing is like a child s. The words homemade and barbecue can create a emotional connection

Protecting Miles and Flora in The Turn of the Screw
I saw my service so strongly and simply. I was there to protect and defend the little creatures... The
governess sees it as her duty to protect Miles and Flora. What do they need protection from and how does
Henry James illustrate this in his novel The Turn of the Screw ?
Henry James s Turn of the Screw can be interpreted in many different ways. He constructed his novel in
order to make allusions to sexual topics, (without stating anything explicitly) madness, ghosts and the
Victorian society. In this essay I will be analysing each of the above in order to make a conclusion as to
what I think the children need protecting from.
As for the ghosts being present or not, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But either way I don t believe the governess saw the ghosts based on two main factors; first being, her
vague description of Miss Jessel, and secondly, the fact Mrs Grose never saw either of the ghosts.
I think the children need protection from the governess and her imagination. The governess comes across
to have an unbalanced behaviour which doesn t go well with the children. I also think madness links into
the fact the governess is hallucinating. I believe the hallucinations have lead the governess to get carried
away, which slowly turned her insane and made her very over protective towards the children. The more
the governess hallucinates the more insane she is going to get, which is not going to protect the children in
anyway as she would be trying to sort out her imagination. The governess is only a child herself, having to
cope with two other children alone maybe a bit to much too handle, so having this other pressure (the
hallucinations) to cope with might just leave her to break down mentally. In the turn of the screw, Henry
James never identifies who is to blame for the chaos at Bly. The interpretation bought about by the
Victorian society is that the master is to blame. By neglecting his responsibility to provide a stabilizing
environment at Bly, he allowed everything to breakdown into chaos:

Proto Pump Inhibitors Essay
Description/Synopsis: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux
disease (GERD) and Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) due to their potential to inhibit gastric acid
production. Unfortunately, high doses of PPIs are associated with adverse health outcomes. The use of
PPIs has been shown to affect the absorption of minerals and vitamin like calcium, iron and vitamin B12.
Not only the risk of other severe conditions like hyperparathyroidism, diarrhea and pneumonia increases
upon the long term use of PPIs but the negative effects also extend to coronary heart disease and
atherosclerotic diseases. PPIs reduce the efficacy of the drug clopidogrel which inhibits platelet activation

It is further reported to induce atrophic gastritis which can ultimately lead to gastric carcinoma. Results of
study: PPIs are generally considered safe, but initial studies reported that the short term use of this drug (8
months) was associated with adverse effects like vomiting/nausea, dizziness, headache, and
hypersensitivity reaction. On the basis of these observations, thereafter, several studies unraveled potential
long term effects of PPI therapy. The studies reveal that upon intake of PPIs calcium absorption efficiency
decreases by 41% in elderly women. It is shown that odds ratio for hip fracture increase with the intake of
PPIs over subsequent years from 1.22 at one year, 1.41 at two years, 1.54 at three years to 1.59 at four
years. A significant difference in the value was seen between men and women and the odds ratio was
analyzed to be 1.78 vs 1.36, respectively. A study further showed the increment in the odds ratio to 1.62
and 1.92 respectively upon the use of PPIs for 5 and 7 years, respectively. The OR for Vitamin B12

  • 2. The Marriott Approach vs. Commodity Approach The Marriott Corporation, one of the nation s largest hotel management companies, has long professed to adhere to the philosophy that, Good personnel will work for a competent manager. Go to every length to find, hire, and train good employees and treat them like your family. This is the crux of your whole operation (Marriott Corporation, 1964). The Marriott Corporation has adopted this position as its management philosophy for nearly fifty years but it runs contrary to the opposing management philosophy that basically treats employees as units, or commodities, which exist as units to be strategically managed. The commodity approach argues that treating employees in such fashion keeps the quality of their work consistent and avoids the possibility of psychological and interpersonal dysfunctions in the workplace. The Marriott approach is argued by many modern human resource managers as the more enlightened one. The traditional approach emphasized the human capital view of employees where employees were viewed as resources that were utilized by the business to provide monetary return and stability to the organization. It was the responsibility of the organization s managers to use the individual knowledge, skills and abilities of the employee in order to maximize the organization s productivity. The traditional view did not attempt to create a family atmosphere within the organization. Everyone had his or her responsibility and everyone s value to the organization was ... • 3. The Reading And Writing Connection Reading and writing have many connections when it comes to everyday life and school. Students would do better with by both reading and writing being taught together instead of separately rather than being taught as two separate lessons. The article lists and discuss multiple ways for teachers to integrate both reading and writing into their lessons. The article The Reading and Writing connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas discuss the connection of reading and writing. It also discusses the integration of the two can help struggling readers as well. In today s classrooms they are integrating reading and writing in the same lessons, before they would have separate lessons one with reading and the other with writing. In the article The Reading and Writing connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas they talked about have designated times for each lesson and when that time passed they moved onto the next subject. When not having the connections between lessons it causes a divide where students cannot make the connections themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would include reading and writing. Students will have to read what their pen pal sent but they will also have to create a response to that person as well. Another way that the article said we could implement the reading section is trying to collaborate pen pals with similar literary interest and have them read the same book. This gives them something to also write about and discuss what they read. Reading and writing connection is the most important part of education, I believe. Every subject will have to deal with reading and writing. For students to really understand the reading and writing connection they must allow students to make choices in what they are reading and enjoy the projects that they will incorporate. If there are not authentic reading writing connections many students will continue to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Direct Current (DC) Motors Student s Name University Course Code Date of Submission Direct Current (DC) Motors 1.0 Overview of DC Motors A Direct Current (DC) motor is a broad classification of electric motors that operate from a direct current (DC). Nearly all mechanical devices used in electric applications are powered by electric motors. Motors transform electrical energy to mechanical energy. Thus, they are essential for energy conversion in electrical machines. All types of electrical motors comprise a stationary field commonly referred to as stator, and a rotating field (or rotor). According to Krishnan, (2010), the mechanism of operation of DC motors is based on the interaction between electric current and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rizzoni (2004) asserts that when electrical energy is supplied to the windings perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field, the flowing current and the magnetic field will interact. As a result, mechanical energy will be produced by the magnetic field, leading to motion. Fleming s Left Hand Rule can be used to determine the direction of the motion Figure 1: Fleming s Left Hand Rule (Rizzoni, 2004) The direction of both the magnetic field and the current are pointed by the first and second fingers respectively. The thumb indicates the direction in which the conductor is pushed by effects of the magnetic field (Rizzoni, 2004). 1.3 Operation Principles of a DC Motor In order to demonstrate the operating principles of a DC motor, this paper will focus on a coil subjected to a magnetic field with a flux density of B (Hambley et al., 2008). When a D.C voltage is supplied to the coil, it induces current to flow through the coil. The electric current and the magnetic field will therefore interact and create a force that pushes the coil to move in the direction shown in Figure 2 below. Figure 2: Torque production in a DC motor (Hambley et al., 2008) A practical DC motor comprises several coils wound on the rotor as shown in Figure 1. The coils are aligned in the direction of the force that induces them to rotate. The current flowing in the coil is directly proportional to the magnetic field produced as well as the rate ... • 8. College Observation There are many factors that I can improve on in the future for the next observations. First of all the organization of the data along with the time measurement are improvements that can be made. Instead of measuring five minutes I would measure every 15 minutes, making it four rounds in one hour. Within that hour we can also use a timer so that we don t lose track of time. Also the time that we had to measure was on a Monday and Wednesday, for the next observation I would add in a Tuesday or Thursday. Since the observation was done on a campus we didn t get different age ranges besides the college age. By measuring data at a Chic Fil A in the public we would get a wider range of ages, genders, and race. The diversity level was also low so in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have learned the hard way that it is better to just bring your own lunch then wait for the lines at Chic Fil A or other restaurants to go down. By the time that we get our food we only have a couple of minutes before our next class. There is so much activity to measure in that hour and in that place. The theme from this observation was gender, age and race majority that ordered at Chic Fil A. The majority of the students who ordered here make up the 72% population who are white at CMU, therefore it was not a surprise that they were the majority of the clients (College Factual, 2013). But there are about 8% more females on campus, but males ordered more than females (College Factual, 2013). To find out why they chose to eat at Chic Fil A would be a different research project. I am researching the gender, age, and race of the people at the university center that order Chic Fil A. I decided to research this because I have noticed the crazy long line during lunch ever since they opened the restaurant in the beginning of the year. I thought it would be interesting to learn which students at the school are the top buyers. Eating patterns are something that I was able to see during this observation. • 9. Pros And Cons Of Enlightenment In The French Revolution The common understanding taught in American schools of the French Revolution is one of a downtrodden peasant class being inspired by the Enlightenment philosophes to rise up and overthrown the despotic monarch. This understanding correlates with American values of freedom, anti tyranny, and success of the underdog. By constructing such a narrative, the French Revolution is given American values. However, as asserted by Darnton in the aforementioned quotation, the French Revolution s spark did not begin with the teeming masses of neglected commoners. Instead, Enlightenment thought permeated the upper echelons of society for two key reasons: cost and literacy. Compilations of Enlightenment thoughts were distilled and included into the relatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The freeing of the peasants from the noble dominated social hierarchy did not include freeing women from the entrenched patriarchy. Enlightenment thought seemingly included women under the natural rights of man, but in reality, women were excluded and denied equality. Initially, women were seen as equals among men, but their subservient role was reasserted and potential gains in equality were lost. For example, American independence was popularized in order to mobilize the entire society, yet only white male landowners were given the opportunity to participate in government and allowed the right to vote. Not until the twentieth century did women achieve universal suffrage. The century lapse in equality begs the question of whether more could have been done during the tumultuous revolutions of the late eighteenth century to spur gender ... This will be done through examining the dimensionality of negotiation and dispute resolution. Second is to address some of the challenges of negotiating. Included as a part of this, is an analysis of the different tones and styles to adopt when negotiating, which may aid towards overcoming these challenges. The main aim of this research is to outline the issues and broadly develop the argument and evidence in support of each party s position towards trying to achieve a win win solution. First type of employment contract Conflict may also bear as a result of the very nature of the work organization, a battle of ideas that takes place where implications may occur. This perspective is relevant to a debate surrounding the promotion of the psychological contract, which is seen as the perception of the two parties, employee and employer, of what their mutual obligations are towards each other (Guest, D. and Conway, N.). The psychological contract consists of the expectations that employees have with their employing organizations. The implications of this are implicit. The complexity of this contract leaves room for misinterpretations, however, ensuring that the terms and conditions have been made clear through open and honest discussions with mutual expectations and obligations will limit the conflict. Second type of employment contract The other type of contract, the employment relationship, Kevin Kelloway explains as, a form of work that is performed under contractual arrangements that involves material rewards (Kelloway, K.). • 11. Definition Essay On Unconditional Love The definition of love is an intense feeling of deep affection. The love between two people should always be conditional. You can fall out of love because you are able to fall in love. Conditional love can be earned by gaining loyalty and trust in another person. When you express conditional love you love the person because of how they treat you and love you. Unconditional love is being able to love someone no matter what. When you express unconditional love for someone you care about the happiness of another person without knowing what the other person s intentions are. I prefer to offer and receive conditional love because I would not want to give false love or get false love. For example, if my boyfriend told me I look good in everything and I decided to wear a purple striped shirt with orange pants, Will I look good then? Another example is, If my boyfriend cheated on me with one of my friends, do I accept the fact and still love him? Love requires trust and commitment from both people in a relationship. Conditional love depends on what you do rather than who you are. For example, a boy tells a girl she is beautiful because she does not wear makeup or if your best friend is only supportive until you make a mistake. Those are examples of conditional love because the boy thinks she is beautiful only because she is not wearing makeup, and your best friend is only there for you until something bad goes wrong. Being able to recognize conditional love will allow you to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. A Good Relationship With My Father The first time my father yelled at me I was six years old. I mean really raised his voice. My father had never used that kind of a tone with me before so naturally I was equally surprised as scared. As I grew older and connected events I realized my father had been upset, not because I was out of bed late at night, but because my mother had been discussing their separation that night. Up until the age of six I had an ideal relationship with my father, I suppose as normal as any other six year old child could have with their parents. I won t try to argue that in order to have a good relationship with another human you have to live in the same house as they do or even in the same state or country, but the farther you are the more difficult it will be to obtain an ideal relationship or connection with that person. A good relationship can be defined in multiple ways and each person has their own take on it. I believe that to truly have a good, grounded, relationship with someone you need to be able to trust that person, enjoy their company, and accept the person for who they are. In a genuine relationship two people should be able to trust each other, to not have any doubt in the other person. Trust is the key component to a healthy relationship and it provides a sense of safety which allows for higher levels of intimacy (Colleen Ekback). Depending on who the other person is, may it be a parent, sibling, another relative or a significant other, the doubtfulness will differ. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It took a clear and dire urging from the beloved General Robert E. Lee to convince the Confederate Congress to begin enlisting black soldiers. I will prove this by looking at such factors as The Big Three s lust for revenge on the Germans, the four major problems encountered when composing the treaty, the final terms of the treaty and the Germans anger at it. The Big Three were three powerful leaders from three powerful nations. They would be Woodrow Wilson, Georges Clemenceau and David Lloyd George, of the USA, France and the UK respectively. These great men would decide the fate of Germany. Woodrow Wilson wanted to create a League of Nations which was a new organisation which could end disputes between countries without wars. ... All the countries who were lost went into debt, therefore the Germans had to pay war reparations, despite the damage not being entirely the fault of Germany. Self determination also caused problems and nationalist groups were keener than ever to rule themselves and be free of their empires. Woodrow Wilson encouraged self determination, as he saw smaller countries less of a threat. This was included in the Treaty of Versailles. Russia was taken over by communists in 1917. It was spreading all around the world. Capitalist countries were scared that the communists would take over. Communists wanted everyone to be equal. It was meant to be the war to end all wars, but failed to succeed, Consequently causing more problems. The following points were decided and written on the final Treaty of Versailles. They all make this decision with the belief that it will be more beneficial in the end. With this hope in mind, students are willing to pay thousands of dollars anticipating that it will have a greater payoff in the end. Although many people oppose this theory, students worldwide are willing to take the chance. Attending school for a couple more years is well worth it. With the goal of overall security and eradication of financial stress, attending college is more likely to foster success in the end. College teaches young adults valuable life lessons that benefit them in the future. The biggest lesson college taught me is that I m fully responsible for everything that happens to me says Benjamin Houy (Brooks 1), meaning that your professors will not make sure you are in class and getting your work done on time. At the same time, you will learn how to take charge of your own learning. Most of the time in college, the answers do not come easily, you ll have plenty of opportunities trying to find a way to acquire the skills you need to turn your dreams into a reality (Brooks 1). While attending college, you will be gaining knowledge on tasks like budgeting, multi tasking, note taking, and working with others. As these lessons are not taught in courses (Hoyt 1), they are learned throughout your experiences during your time on campus. If you don t worry about yourself in college, nobody else is going to do it for you states Elizabeth Hoyt, explaining how you need to take care of yourself and become independent. These skills become especially useful in the workplace when you will have to work together with co workers to get an assignment done for your employer. The Battle Of Santa Rosa Island After several months of battles between the north and the south in several states, including North Carolina, Virginia, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, the war reached Florida in 1861. The first battle to reach Florida occurred when there was a standoff at Fort Pickens. When Florida seceded from the Union, there were Union soldiers stationed at Fort Pickens that were asked to surrender. A force of almost 1,000 volunteer soldiers landed on Santa Rosa Island with the intent of raiding the outlying defenses and camps near Fort Pickens. General Richard H. Anderson led these soldiers. Mainly the Sixth New York Infantry Regiment defended the forts and camps. Soon after the Confederates burned and ransacked the Union camp, reinforcements were sent from Fort Pickens to assist the confused Union soldiers. The Confederates had 18 killed, 39 wounded, and 30 imprisoned soldiers, while the Union had 14 killed, 29 wounded, and 20 imprisoned. By March 1862, the Confederates completely withdrew from the area. This battle became known as the Battle of Santa Rosa Island because the union troops landed on Santa Rosa Island, four miles east of Fort Pickens. Most of the civil war took place in the states of Virginia and Tennessee but two major battles of and several smaller altercations took place in the state of Florida. In writing this piece, in 1924, O Neill delivers a captivating and somewhat comical version of the classic myth. Stuck in the transition from the Modernism to Postmodernism movements, O Neill struggled to define himself as either a modernist or postmodernist. The Modernism movement is made up of a variety of different movements: philosophical, artistic, and literary. The artistic and literary Modernism movement, which occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century, is marked by the concepts of experimentation and individualism, signifying sudden breaks with traditional values of literature, philosophy, and culture. In comparison, postmodernism, which developed in the mid to late 20th century held the idea that reality is not based on societal understanding of it, but, on individual perception and interpretation. While both have similarities, the perceptions of individuality in these movements differ on a relatively large scale. In the Modernist movement, it was socially correct to adhere to what was specifically deemed acceptable. In contrast, in the postmodernist movement, one style of living was not any less acceptable than another because each person determined what is considered valuable to them individually. Though modernism and postmodernism are marked by distinctive ways of thinking and social norms, these periods actually faced quite an overlap. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Derek calls the KKK a bunch of disorganized rednecks that very inanely run around with sheets on their heads. Instead they are part of a Neo Nazi group in Southern California. In America today there are estimated to be about 200,000 members 602 3 associated with white power groups (included in these estimates are supporters and hard core members plus their families) (Suall). That is a lot of people who are affiliated with known racist groups. When looking on the Internet a person can realize how much hate is present in our world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In more simple terms, sexism is the false idea that one sex is superior or inferior to the other. In sociology, sociologists focus on the differences that are determined by society, culture, and gender. It is believed by social scientists that gender differences are not caused by biological differences. Although humans are born male or female, individuals must learn and understand masculine or feminine behaviors. Therefore, gender differences are a result of socialization, discrimination, prejudice, and other forms of social control. For example, in the United States, a strong patriarchal system is enforced among Mormon Fundamentalists. From a conflict and feministic perspective, gender inequality or sexism exists because it benefits a group in the position of power and with power to shape society. This power group is men. The theorists within these two perspectives argue that as long as men maintain their social, economic, and cultural advantage within society that women will remain in their subordinate position. This subordinate position women have within society is linked to their relationship to the means of production (Leon Guerrero, 2014). Statistically speaking, women who work 41 to 44 hours per week earn 84.6% of what men make working similar hours. However, women who work more than 60 hours per week only earn about 78.3% of what men do. In addition, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over these decades there have been many different proposals as to what approach to take in order to handle the situation of homosexuals in the military. However, in 1992 when Bill Clinton was running for President of the United States, he made a promise to lift the ban on homosexuals in the military if he was elected (Washington Post). It was in December 1993 that Clinton issued a defense directive that military candidates should not be asked about their sexual orientation (Washington Post). This allowed gays who were not openly gay to serve in the military, however it still prohibited openly gay people to serve in the military. Over the years, the law has faced its share of challenges, many which ended up in a court room. In 2006, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld Don t Ask, Don t Tell, and the law was also upheld five times in federal courts (Washington Post). These doings have ultimately led up to the most recent actions involving the law. In 2008, President Obama campaigned on the promise that he would fully repeal the law (Washington Post). In 2010, both the Senate and House of Representatives voted to repeal the law, allowing President Obama to sign the repeal. (USNI) This repeal effectively ended a 17 year ban on open gays being able to serve in the United States military. Don t Ask, Don t Tell had two major players, Bill Clinton who put the law into place and Barack Obama who repealed the law. In 1993, when Clinton put the law into effect, the goal was that military men and women would be evaluated on their conduct rather than their sexual orientation. • 37. The Upper Room Discourse ( John 13-17 ) The Upper Room Discourse (John 13 17) marked the end of Jesus three year ministry and served to be Jesus farewell address to the beloved apostles. During Jesus final moments with the apostles, Jesus would proceed to institute a new blood covenant (Luke 22:20; Mark 14:24) and provide final instructions and encouragement to the apostles before facing the sorrow, rejection, betrayal, and death for which Jesus had come into this world (Houdmann, n.d.). Thus, the final moments between Jesus and the apostles revealed countless theological truths that were demonstrated through word, deed, admonishment, and prophecy (Douglas Tenney, 2010). Jesus departure also created anxiety and questions amongst the apostles (Pentecost, 1981). Thus, in the narrative of John 13:36 14:31, Jesus lovingly admonishes the apostles with the command of Let not your heart be troubled (Wiersbe, 2007). As a consequence of this command, Jesus promised the apostles a place in heaven along with Christ s return (John 14:3), assurance that Christ was the way to the Father (John 14:6), and a permanent, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16; Acts 13:52) who would be the apostle s teacher (Luke 12:12) in Jesus absence (Gromacki, 1978). Most profound is the fact that with Jesus ascension into heaven, the apostles would benefit in Jesus absence (John 14:9) with greater spiritual power (Pentecost, 1981). Additionally, Jesus also revealed the divine essence of the Godhead (John 14:9) while further defining the true essence of Christianity, Ye in me, I in you (Gromacki, 1978). As Jesus continued instructing the apostles in John 15:1 16:4, attention was turned to the apostle s present condition and how the great commission could be fulfilled (Pentecost, 1981). The United States citizens are responsible of electing politicians into government positions to solve the problems the country faces. One of those problems is corruption. The power of money is at the center of political corruption and even though fraud has been in existence for a long time, in recent years it has become a lot worse. In the past when politicians sought to run for office each individual had to raise a few thousand dollars, businesses in the past were smaller, manageable and the risk factors were minimal. Currently political contributions run in the millions, making Washington a booming business. In the radio transmitter, electrons oscillate up and down and are thus accelerating. An electron will exert a force on another electron when they are some distance away, like charges repel. I believe the hallucinations have lead the governess to get carried away, which slowly turned her insane and made her very over protective towards the children.
