The Sky is Gray by Ernest Gaines is a realistic example of a long epidemic has hovered over the
African American community like an dark storm cloud just waiting to burst. Personally, this story
called to me, like I was meant to read it. The mother in this short story reminds me of my own

For the past four years, I have played a significant role in the Putnam County High School
Anchor Club. Though the club was small and a little disorganized my freshman year, it has
grown to become a prominent part of my life and a major key to my success. In these four years,
the Anchor Club has helped me grow to become the leader I am today. I now serve as the
President of our Anchor Club. I believe my leadershiphas helped the club reach its full potential
for success. Each year, our club participates in annual events sponsored by our Pilot and/or Anchor
Clubs. For example, every Halloween, a canned food drive event is held, sponsored by the
Anchors. Our club members, in collaboration with Putnam Christian Outreach, play a major role in

that can help. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) can suppress or even cure some mental illnesses,
but there are risks with the procedure. Shock Therapy is a treatment used to adjust a patient s
brain function in psychiatric disorders. There is different kinds of shock therapy, including
Electroconvulsive Therapy, Insulin Therapy and Hydrotherapy. The risks range from muscle
stiffness to memory loss, with the worst being long term memory loss, which can be permanent.
The most common side effects are chronic headaches and migraines but they are not forever. This
treatment is not just side effects and bad news. ECT can dramatically improve depression. ECT
can also help medicate other mental illnesses such as: schizophrenia, Alzheimer s, and
melancholia. This is not the only way to treat mental illness. There is a multitude of ways you can
treat yourself or get treatment. To some this treatment is the best thing that could have happened to
them. But in others the results were minimal. The visits are not long, but the treatment can last for

Oil is very important in our world. But we should be able to come up with some alternate
methods of getting oil, or even better, alternate resources. There has already been an alternate
way to produce oil already invented. This process is known as the Fischer Tropsch process,
which converts coal into crude oil. It was a concept pioneered in Nazi Germany when imports of
petroleum were restricted due to war, and Germany found a method to extract oil from coal. It
was known as Ersatz ( substitute in German), and accounted for nearly half the total oil used in
WWII by Germany. However, the process was used only as a last resort as naturally occurring
oil was much cheaper. As crude oil prices increase, the cost of coal to oil conversion becomes
comparatively cheaper. The method involves converting high ash coal into synthetic oil in a
multistage process. Ideally, a ton of coal produces nearly 200 liters of crude, with by products

Eloquent Feelings and Safe Places Stephen Dunn s poems makes sure to let the reader stop and
think, and as a creative writing teacher he knows how to do just that. Winner of awards such as the
Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, The James Wright Prize ,and the Paterson Award for Sustained Literary
Achievement , his work The Sacred , published back in 1989, shows off his literary genius in
normal experiences and captures the vehement thoughtin his writing that has captured many hearts
of the readers. The Sacred speaks about what a student believes is his sacred space, and what it
means to him. Dunn uses three core poetic devices to not only show that everyone needs an
escape from reality, but also the herd mentality of youth when one has confidence. The nihilistic
ending and the free form moderate style add to the ideals that Dunn tries to present and helps add
a twist ending to the poem when you see the lack of desire for social interactions in the young man
who was the first to speak up. The contrast between his outer presentation and his inside emotions
are shown strongly between the first and second half, as if he only spoke up to get it over with .

can break or make us in life.A name can mean a reputation, passed down as a cultural necessities.
You may have the same name as a grandparent or an ancestor. Or, you may have a biblical name,
or just a made up name. We may choose to keep or change our names, as a means of shaping or
possessing a different identity. Identity, our personality, our attitude towards the world, our values,
are the very things that build and create perceptions and often judgements about us. These
judgements often create low self esteem. These very distinct ideas about us are very shockingly
similar. Think about it, our names have definitions, which to some people it s right on point with

1780 in France. Her most well known story is her version of Beauty and the Beast that was the

there is a rich merchant with six children who ends up losing all his money. On one of his job
trips he causes trouble with the Beast. Beauty takes his place as prisoner and in due time ends up

Here at Virgin Atlantic, we identify and meet customer needs through customer survey
questionnaires/ comment cards and customer forums/focus groups.
When the survey questionnaires or comment cards have been read by a member for our staff,
usually the customer service manager, they then analyse all of the comments to find areas of
improvement in order to meet customer needs.
For example, if a number of customers have complained about staff not knowing obvious
information i.e. directions around the airport, prices of products or check in times, that would tell
us that our staff are unequipped to help our customers.
From this, we will then need to realise and work our a way to get more information into our staff in
order to meet the needs of our customers more efficiently.
This can be done in many ways, however the most ideal one for this situation would be to hold
regular morning/afternoon meetings to keep staff updated with information.
When we exceed customer expectations, we like to go that extra mile by giving out customers

their flight, we like to make sure that our staff will fully inform our customers of their flight time,
boarding time, gate number and if there will be any delays.

collection of tales told by pilgrims on a religious pilgrimage. Three of these
tales; The Knight s Tale , The Wife of Bath s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale ,
involve different kinds of love and different love relationships. Some of the
loves are based on nobility, some are forced and some are based on mutual

Semester grades are determined by a curve. The nature of a curve is that your grade is based on

Symbolism is used in everything from movies to stories, EVERYTHING. Symbolism is the use
of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Symbols can be used to describe or mean something
else. For example, empty pockets can be used as a symbol to describe not having any money. It
can be used in many different ways and forms. Symbols are used everyday and time are really
hard to notice what they truly mean. The following poems all use different symbols, but all stand
for deception the poems are Traveling Through the Dark by William Stafford, We Wear the Mask

To begin with, the poem Traveling Through the Dark the car is symbolized as death. In real life
time a car is used as a form of transportation, but can also bring death to those involved in an
accident. The narrator states, Traveling though the dark I found a deer dead on the edge of the
Wilson river road (lines1 2). He says that he has found a dead deer on by the river that another
car might have hit before. This car that the narrator is in come be a sign of death coming again
to a unborn baby. He says, . . . then pushed her over the edge into the river (line18). After finding
the dead deer he decides to move the deer to prevent another accident, later to find out that an
unborn is still alive. He makes his way towards a cliff pushing off the dead and now dead baby

bringer (Nordstrom). Nordstrom understands that death is disguised by a car and as the car
approaches the deer, its death making its way again. Next the poem named We Wear the Mask
deals with what slaves would relate to during the slavery having to cover up their true feelings.
A mask is used as a symbol as it is used to hide the true feelings of those who are in grief and
