DEALING WITH
A HUGE SOLID
WASTE
CHALLENGE!
CHALLENGES
 Overflowing dustbins and stinking solid waste along the roads is common site
in the Upper Dharamshala region.
 The solid waste management at the trekking sites is also evoking concern
among environmentalists.
 The solid waste comprising plastic bottles and wrappers of packed food has
started piling up in the area.
 Lack of proper door to door collection services.
TO OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES THE GOVT. TAKE OUT
SOME STEPS-
 Dharamshala is the first city where sensor based underground dustbins are
installed across 140 public locations.
 These bins will also prevent the wastes from developing leachate, that seeps
through the soil to contaminate ground water.[4]
 It segregates waste into three types – plastic, wet and non-plastic dry waste.
