In Africa, the potential for solar energy is immense. The continent is, in fact, is the brightest in the world. Its 30.37 million km² receive a solar irradiance equal to or greater than 2,000 kWh/ (m2 year).
In the management of the energy resources, increasing the production of solar energy and other forms of renewable energy should be the top priority for policymakers, if they are keen to foster the African power transition towards a more prosperous and sustainable future. The African economy is growing and and according to IRENA, the electricity demand should triple by 2030. Africa is endowed with significant renewable resources of all forms: biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar or wind. This great energetic wealth could change the face of Africa forever. In fact, the diversification of energy sources increases the power generation capacity; the energetic shift would then resolve two of the Achilles’ heels in the energy landscape: satisfying the rising demand as well as replacing the poor-quality supply networks with reliable and safe energy supply.

Pico solar PV systems development in Kenya as opposed to rural electrificationAugustine Okoth
Pico Solar homes systems use have greatly grown in Africa with Kenya taking the lead. Most rural areas do not have to electricity. Due to poverty most households cannot afford electricity either way, hence settling for kerosene or candle as their source of lighting. This can lead to health problems and is expensive in the long run. This study discusses power situation in Kenya. It explains why we need to embrace solar in the rural areas as compared to national grid rural electrification. Majority of Kenyans still use kerosene for lighting even though the Pico PV is very affordable. The government, donors and solar companies have a big role to play in promoting the use of green energy in the rural areas. This can be done by creation of awareness of the product and ensuring that the standards on the solar systems are met.

There are many reasons why to believe that the Italian PV market has a bright future.
First of all, data show photovoltaics are playing a fundamental role in the electricity production market. According to Anie Rinnovabili, as of January 2019, Italy witnessed a cumulative installed PV capacity of 20.08 GW. This figure shows that the Italian solar market grew 7% compared to 2017 with 437 MW of new capacity added.
Secondly, the country is renowned for its excellent weather conditions. According to the Photovoltaic Geographical Information System, the annual solar radiation ranges from 3.6 kW per square meter in the Po river area to 5.4 kW per square meter in Sicily. Numbers speak clearly: Italy shows great potential for solar energy project development. Furthermore, Italy is also one of the earliest countries to have reached the “solar market parity” status (subsidy-free PV projects). Traditionally, the solar power capacity in Italy had been directly subsidized through a Feed-in Premium subsidy, known as Conto Energia. In an interview released for Intersolar, Gennaro Sposato (Specialist at the Rödl & Partner consulting firm), affirmed that the expiration of the Conto Energia feed-in tariffs has shined a new light on the country’s solar market. Now that the market is completely independent of political processes, a new horizon of business opportunities has arisen for companies and investors, both in new installations and in the secondary market.
Solar PV panels are very sensitive to solar shadings. Total or partial shading conditions have a significant impact rate on the capability of delivering energy and may result in lower output and power losses. Cells in a solar panel are usually connected in series to get a higher voltage and therefore an appropriate production of electricity. But when shading occurs, this structure presents some limitations.
Arc flash typically occurs when the electrical insulation or isolation between live conductors is severed or can no longer withstand the applied voltage. Near the high power electrical equipment, the short-circuit power available is high and consequently so is the energy associated with the electrical arc in case of a fault.
In Europe, regulation and standardization are mainly aimed at protecting workers against the risks of direct contact during work and interventions on and near electrical installations. The risks in the case of electric arc and the means to prevent them are mentioned but not developed. The effects of the electric arc:
The electric arc produces intense light and heat, high noise, high overpressure
Heat and splashes of molten metal can cause lethal burns
Noise can lead to permanent or temporary hearing loss, a flash of vision disorders
The overpressure can open and project the doors of electrical cabinets or cause falls during work at height
In addition to personal injury, an arc flash can result in serious damage to electrical equipment. which can cause disruption to electrical systems in manufacturing and process industry environments or tertiary buildings. The cost of downtime can be considerable. elec calc™ Arc Flash module provides the professionals of the electrical industry with a fundamental tool in the sector, as the user will be able to develop its safety analysis in the vicinity of switchboards and panels. By design, elec calc™ has almost all the data allowing the calculation of the figures of the arc flash, from which the user will be able to elaborate his security analysis near the tables and boxes.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the digital management of the information processes for the design, construction, and management of building projects. The use of the digital model – the representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a structure – promotes interoperability and interaction among the various stakeholders and the result is a highly interactive environment capable of adapting to changes.
According to “Delivering value with BIM: a whole of life approach” book, a BIM object is a model element which contains:
*Information that defines the product or element
*Geometric characteristic of the physical product or element
*Visualization data giving the object a recognizable appearance
*Functional data that allows the object to be positioned or to behave in a certain manner.
Therefore, a BIM object is not a simple digital representation in 3D, but an intelligent object as it contains the metadata that describes what kind of object it is, its classification, performance values, the material type, expected lifetime, manufacturer, maintenance, its behavior and also information regarding sustainability and energy efficiency and so on. This information is crucial for the management of the object along the whole life-cycle of the building project.
How can BIM objects be classified? Which are their sources?
Any software purchasing process implies a certain time of critical reflection on several aspects: costs, ROI, usability, integration, and technical support just to name a few. Technical support is a fundamental factor that must be necessarily taken into consideration when buying an engineering software solution mainly for three relevant reasons.
First of all, it comes to the learning process. The acquisition and implementation of a new engineering software solution suppose a new work methodology. Furthermore, in case of an issue affecting the operational performance, it is important to count with experienced technical engineering support able to provide assistance in direct contact, with ease and comfort.
Technical support is also a fundamental business unit for being the main point of contact with the customer. Understanding changing clients’ preferences and collecting their consideration and expectations on the software solutions is not only important, but it is necessary as it shows unique chances of improvements to any company.
Access to energy is at the heart of the economic development of any country. This slide shows the fundamental differences between renewable and non-renewable energy sources. To cope with climate change and to guarantee the planet survival, the world needs to take urgent action. In this scenario, solar energy is leading the energy shift. Furthermore, with declining investments cost, producing solar electricity for the purpose of self-consumption is on the rise. A solar self- consumption installation uses the PV electricity generated on-site to meet the energy needs of the consumer while minimizing or excluding the use of electricity from the utility grid.
When we talk about Building Information Modeling (BIM) we are not talking about a trend, but about a real digital revolution in the building sector, ready to break up obsolete schemes and processes.
For a long time, the engineering and construction sectors were looking for tools to increase the productivity and quality of their projects by reducing costs and delivery times. BIM has positioned itself in these sectors as the ideal tool for achieving these goals.
Electrical engineers can complete all aspects of electrical design including power and lighting, fire alarm, communications, security systems, and other building services in a single environment.
Through BIM, electrical engineers will be able to detect clashes and avoid electrical conflicts due to contradictory information between documents and building systems.
elec calc ™ BIM is an essential solution for electrical engineering. It is the first software in the world that perfectly integrates the electrical calculation in the BIM process. With elec calc™ BIM, the user can design, calculate and size the electrical installation in the digital model in IFC 4 format, generated by any 3D architecture software (Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp …).
For REVIT users, the elec calc™ BIM plug-in optimizes collaboration between the two programs. The compatibility with the electrical objects available on the BIM&CO platform is also an important resource for integrating and calculating the products of the manufacturers.
elec calc™ BIM offers unique routing capabilities. The user calculates the lengths of the cables generated in the digital model and it is also possible to perform different simulations to compare different routing scenarios. The 3D model allows for conflict detection and the BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) technology, integrated into the software, allows you to manage all communications and alerts with other operators.
CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
