Virtual Environments and Web 3D – New Worlds with Old Problems?Tracy Kennedy
In 2003, Linden Research Inc launched the virtual world Second Life with a small community of residents. In the past year, Second Life reached a tipping point; almost nine million residents are registered in the Metaverse, and there are numerous daily media accounts about life in the virtual world.
The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of Second Life, and examine the appeal of an interactive three dimensional interface that has encouraged new leisure and social activities, business and marketing ventures, educational opportunities, political platforms, arts and entertainment and much more. Second Life also features its own media hub, which includes magazines, news sites and agencies, weblogs and television stations, covering new fashions for avatars, music concerts by popular artists, community affairs, and economic reports.
However, virtual worlds are not inherently utopian; with new environments come old social problems from the ‘real’ world. This presentation will also address some of the debates that have surfaced about social norms and behaviours in Second Life, what the future of virtual worlds might entail, and whether Second Life hype is a passing fad or a the development of Web 3.0/3D.
Metaverse Marketing: Games and Virtual Worlds in Product PromotionSebastian Küpers
Analysts tell us that the market for in-game and virtual world advertising is expected to grow by a factor of ten in the next five years. But this is still a new frontier and marketers are confused about what's required to reach audiences in these worlds and what they can expect from investing in this area. We'll look at the most common and the most creative approaches to reaching these cyber-citizens, highlight common pitfalls, and discuss how to measure the effectiveness of these programs.

What is Intelligent Content
How has content on the internet evolved
Some examples of intelligent content, both online and offline
What do we see on the internet going forward?
Over two billion people signed up for Facebook. This site the most used site for people when using the Internet. People are not watching TV so much anymore - they using Facebook, Youtube and Netflix and number of popular web sites.
Some people denote their time working for others online. What drives people to write an article on Wikipedia? They don´t get paid. Companies are enlisting people to help with innovations and sites such as Galaxy Zoo ask people to help identifying images. And why do people have to film themselves singing when they cannot sing and post the video on Youtube?
In this lecture we talk about how people are using the web to interact in new ways, and doing stuff.
Social Technology
by Marti A. Hearst
We are in the midst of extraordinary
change in how people interact with one
another and with information. A
combination of advances in technology
and change in people's expectations is
altering the way products are sold,
scientific problems are solved, software
is written, elections are conducted, and
government is run.
People are social animals, and as Shirky
notes, we now have tools that are
flexible enough to match our in-built
social capabilities. Things can get
done that weren't possible before
because the right expertise, the missing
information, or a large enough group of
people can now be gathered together at
low cost.
These developments open a number of
interesting questions for NSF and CISE.
What are the key research problems? How
should these developments change how
research is conducted? How can the
intersection of social science and
technology research be aided or
improved? And how should this effect
how NSF researchers get involved with
relevant government efforts, including
transparent government, emergency
response, and citizen science?
In this talk I attempt to summarize
and put some structure around some of
these developments.

Leveraging User-Generated Content Inside Community ForumsAlan Belniak
Both long-form and short-form content have their places, and serve us well. Often times, people clamor to see what the subject matter experts have to say. What do you do when the subject matter experts are your community? How can you harness the power of user-generated content and make that a focal point of your content strategy? In this session, we'll explore some element that make up a good community, how to spur conversations inside that community, foster engagement, and then re-imagine, re-use, and re-cycle that content into something new. B2B buying, the importance of identifying and engaging online influencers to spread the word about your business has grown. But how do you figure out who has influence and how do you engage them to share a positive message? Approaching and cultivating knowledgeable influencers requires a different approach than working with traditional journalists. So, in this interactive session we'll discuss what to look for when seeking online influencers, and which strategies deliver productive engagement and meaningful relationships. Plus, we'll cover suggested metrics for determining the impact of your influencer relations on the bottom line. Bring your challenges and questions to discuss with the group.
Critical Success Factors of a Social NetworkAlan Belniak
Most people are aware of popular social networks, like Facebook and Twitter. But aside from those, there are others - digital places where people gather for a reason and commune. What makes some work, and some fail? I dig into that here. I create a framework for evaluation, and then apply that to an existing social network to see how it fares.
Several tools today let people tweet and post to multiple social networks. Some are free, others are pay. We evaluated a handful of them and prepared a quick crib-sheet to have handy when you make vendor calls.
I guest-lectured at an undergraduate course about sales and event promotion. I spoke about the power of using social media for conducting marketing research and engaging customers and prospects.
Businesses are seeing the value of social media, and are chomping at the bit to get started. How, though? The first two steps are to determine your objectives and listen. This presentation reviews how you can do those steps.
Twitter is a communication platform with many uses by many people. Many roles in an organization can benefit from using it to better engage with customers. Here is a primer on how to get started.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
