Social media is one of the most popular forms of electronic communication today and is commonly used for research. It allows users to make friends, share photos and videos, and stay up to date on trends. However, researchers must consider the ethics of using social media for research and ensure they obtain proper consent to collect, analyze, and reuse social media data. Guidelines published by the University of Aberdeen emphasize that researchers are responsible for taking an ethical approach when using public social media posts in their studies.
