Global Trust in Advertising Report by NielsenVictor Kong
Reaching your audience is an important component of any ad campaign, but what good is ad reach if it doesn’t resonate with the audience? A recent Nielsen global online survey discussed the trust levels across earned, owned and paid advertising formats, but effective campaigns require more than identifying the right channel for reaching consumers. It’s also about delivering the right message.
Nielsen Consumer Neuroscience research shows that highly successful ads score well on three dimensions: attention, conversion to long-term memory and emotional engagement. So how can marketers ensure that their ads stand out on these factors? In Nielsen’s latest Global Trust in Advertising Survey, we asked 30,000 online consumers which advertising themes are most impactful. The findings shine light on the types of messages they most enjoy—and not surprisingly, they often differ by region and generation.

A decades-old dream is on the verge of coming true. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) will hit the road as early as 2017, when several original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and technology companies plan to launch pilot projects or roll out commercial vehicles with varying levels of self-driving capability. Mass adoption of self-driving technology will deliver tremendous economic benefits. But it will also disrupt business as usual for a wide variety of companies, including OEMs, mobility providers, and component makers. The coming AV era raises urgent questions for executives of these companies: What is the cost of these technologies and what are consumers willing to pay for them? How fast will mass markets adopt AVs and how might car sharing and societal shifts impact these introductions? What technological challenges must be overcome to enable fully autonomous driving? Where should OEMs and new entrants focus their R&D investments? And how should players in the AV market address consumer concerns around safety, lack of control, and the risks of faulty technology?
Global consumers want similar things when it comes to personal data. In this slideshow, we explore the sentiments about data privacy expressed by people across countries, industries, and data types.

Technologies and ways of working that might have seemed an interesting experiment in other times have become essential.

Taming the ever-evolving Compliance Beast : Lessons learnt at LinkedIn [Strat...Shirshanka Das
Just when you think you have your Kafka and Hadoop clusters set up and humming and you’re well on your path to democratizing data, you realize that you now have a very different set of challenges to solve. You want to provide unfettered access to data to your data scientists, but at the same time, you need to preserve the privacy of your members, who have entrusted you with their data.
Shirshanka Das and Tushar Shanbhag outline the path LinkedIn has taken to protect member privacy in its scalable distributed data ecosystem built around Kafka and Hadoop.
They also discuss three foundational building blocks for scalable data management that can meet data compliance regulations: a centralized metadata system, a standardized data lifecycle management platform, and a unified data access layer. Some of these systems are open source and can be of use to companies that are in a similar situation. Along the way, they also look to the future—specifically, to the General Data Protection Regulation, which comes into effect in 2018—and outline LinkedIn’s plans for addressing those requirements.
But technology is just part of the solution. Shirshanka and Tushar also share the culture and process change they’ve seen happen at the company and the lessons they’ve learned about sustainable process and governance.
Lee Rainie, director of internet and technology research at Pew Research Center, presented these findings at the International Monetary Fund/World Bank’s Youth Dialogue and its program, “A World Without Work?” The findings tie to several pieces of research at the Center, including reports on the state of American jobs, automation in everyday life, and the future of jobs training programs.

Changing public attitudes and consumer appetites is a critical part of any public engagement strategy.
