WHAT IS SOCIAL COGNITIVE THEORY?
The social-cognitive theory is a
theoretical perspective in which
learning by observing others is the focus
of study.
IMPLICATION ON TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:
ASSUMPTION 1:
People can learn by observing others. Learners can acquire new
behaviours and knowledge by simply observing a model.
WHAT IS A MODEL?
A model is a person who demonstrates behaviour for someone else. The
observer watches the models perform the task in order to learn it.
ASSUMPTION 2:
Learning is an internal process that may or may not lead to a
behaviour.
ASSUMPTION 3:
Goal directed behaviour.
ASSUMPTION 4:
Behaviour eventually becomes self- regulated.
ASSUMPTION 5:
Reinforcement and punishment have indirect effects on
learning behaviour.
