2. Violent Video Games Effects On Society
Video games have been around for half a century, when the first simple tennis game was designed
by William Higinbotham in 1958. Since then, video games have gotten more in depth, and now
include the best graphics and a vast amount of options which include violent video games. Violent
video games have gotten more popular with the vast amount of variety including the franchise of
Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Grand Theft Auto. In addition, these are the most common and
sought after video games, and because of the violence in those games, debate has started whether
or not violent video games cause people especially adolescents to be more violent and destructive
in society. Since the debate has started, research has been conducted and the introduction of violent
video games into society has not resulted in violence to increase in adolescents and children. Over
the years violent video gamesales have skyrocketed and there is no correlation with juvenile crime
rates that suggests that those games resulted with more violence in society. Furthermore, in a
recent article from ProCon the National Center for Education Statistics and Nicholas Lovell stated
The number of high school students who had been in at least one physical fight decreased from
43% in 1991 to 25% in 2013, and student reports of criminal victimization at school dropped by
more than half from 1995 to 2011 (1). This demonstrates that violent video games do not result in
violence, but actually resulted in violence

3. Most Powerful Character In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of
Lennie s head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied (Steinbeck 106).
This is the quote that changed everything in Of Mice and Men. The book Of Mice and Men was
created by John Steinbeckin 1937. In the Book OF Mice and Men George and Lennie are best
friends who had to flee their town and look for work. They find work on a ranch and live there.
The story focuses on their struggles and problems on the ranch. With all the conflict there has to
be someone in charge, someone with power. In the story Of Mice and Men, George is the most
powerful character because he is more powerful compared to other characters. George is more...

4. Luxury Car Market
There are distinctive barriers to entry in the automotive industry. The main 10 firms operating in the
automotive industry have great power in terms of reputation, finances, experience, technology and
existing large product portfolios. It would be highly difficult for a new company to compete with
the above.
The existing companies within the industry are joining forces, which at times do
have detrimental effects for new comers to the market and for some existing companies. For
instance, the situation of Rover in the UK. In the past, the profitable components of Rover were
purchased by BMW and Ford, and Rover was left producing poor quality and old vehicles, which
consequently led to its bankruptcy in April, 2005 (BBC, April... Show more content on

cater for the needs and wants of consumers.
Ford is particularly successful in their
sponsorships, advertising and other forms of marketing. Ford is currently sponsoring the football
Champions League, with Destination Football slogan (Bloomberg, 2005).
 The current research
and development activities of Ford allow them to be pioneers in certain production technologies
(Kochan, 2001).
Weaknesses

In an attempt to attract younger generations to purchase
Jaguar cars, Ford introduced baby Jag . The effects of such an action proved to be negative in
damaging Jaguar s reputation, and is a weakness for Ford (Kerwin, 2002)
 Quality assurance
needs to be more of a focal point for Ford to avoid recalling cars and expensive repair operations.
(Kochan, 2001)
In 2002, Ford and Bridgestone experienced a faulty tyre scandal which caused
a two billion dollar loss (BBC, January 2002).
Opportunities

 To develop vehicles that
uses other forms of energy than petrol and diesel and to become pioneers in this area.
 The
numbers of car owners who replace their old models with new ones are on the increase (Mintel,
2004).
Demand for cars by women drivers is on the increase and so is the overall demand for
cars (Key Note, 2005).
Threats

world supply of gasoline finishing.

5. Migrant Workers In The 1930s And Today
People work very hard to provide the fresh produce that can be so easily purchased at the grocery
store. This is explained in the articles: The Migrant Experience by Robin A. Fanslow and Young
Migrant Workers Toil in U.S. Fields by Karen Fanning. In the 1930s, migrant workers had to go
through some pretty rough times in order to support themselves. Today, migrant workers work
extremely hard to support their families while, at the same time, sending their kids to school.
However, the world in the 1930s was very different than it is today. This makes for some variation
when it comes to what challenges they have had to face. Regardless of these differences, migrant
workers in the 1930s and today have faced similar and different forms of... Show more content on

In the 1930s and today, migrant workers struggled and struggle to find financial stability. In the
1930s, the crash of the stock market which lead to the Great Depression left people with
practically nothing. This caused them to become migrants. They would travel all over California
following the work. In the same way, migrant workers today struggle to find the money that they
need while still allowing their children to get an education, so just like in the 1930s, they travel
from state to state looking for work. Another similarity between the two times is the fact that in
both cases there it a glimmer of hope. In the 1930s, after working so hard for years, the economy
improved and the workers were able to settle down and have a better life. Today, programs like
MET help the children of migrant worker families make it through school. If these kids make it all
the way through, they will most likely be able to end the cycle. In contrast to these similarities,
there are also some pretty big differences. In the 1930s, migrant workers didn t have to worry
about having to juggle working in the fields with school. Having an education then wasn t as big
of a deal as it is now. Today, if workers don t get an education they will most likely be working in
the fields for rest of their lives. Another difference is that today people don t have to deal with
the Dust Bowl. In the 1930s, people lost their homes after they were covered up with dirt. Today,
some of the only that could potentially destroy a home are fires or floods, but today we have
firefighters and insurance. Migrant workers from these two times share some big similarities, but

7. The Paralysis of Prufrock in The Love Song of J. Alfred...
Paralysis, the incapability to act, has been a key element of many famous literary characters.
Shakespeare s Hamlet is the paragon of paralysis, unable to sort through his thoughts, Hamlet
only makes one decisive action, at the end of the play. T.S Elliot s transfers Hamlets paralysis in
his poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. The name Elliot chose for this indecisive, timid
man epitomizes his character as well as his flaws. J. Alfred Prufrock needs this ranting monologue
in order for him to understand the severity of his paralysis and fear of women and society. Elliot s
poetryis a melting pot of literary allusions and references. The first lines are directly quoted from
Dante s Inferno. Prufrock, as can be interpreted from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the next stanza, Prufrock tells himself repeatedly that indeed there will be time. This repetition
is used in order to display Prufrock re assuring himself that he does not need to meet the women in
the room just yet, there will be time for himself and the woman he loves to meet and talk. Prufrock
believes that there is enough time for his hundred of indecisions and revisions before the taking of
a toast and tea.
Not only does Prufrock seem to be afraid of confronting woman talking of Michelangelo, he
seems intimidated by the social settings he must engage in. There will be time, there will be
time, To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet, There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands That lift and drop a question on your plate (26 29)
Prufrock s social anxiety results in his worrying how others see him. He thinks about women s
arms and perfume, but does not know how to act. He admits he is ultimately afraid (line 86) of
engaging in social activities. Elliot reveals the height of Prufrock s paralysis by scrutinizing the
absurdity of Prufrock s concerns: Should I, after tea and cakes and ices, / Have the strength to
force the moment to its crisis? In the next few stanzas, Prufrock describes himself balding, middle
aged, and plain in order to draw in the reader to the point of view of the society. As detailed as

8. Adoptees Began The Adoption Reform
In the 1960s, adoptees began The Adoption Reform Movement to make sealed adoption records
accessible. Before then, traditional or closed adoptions were thought to be the best option for
everyone involved in the adoption triangle. This triad consists of the adoptee, adoptive parents, and
biological parents. In a closed adoption, the adoptee is not allowed access to medical records and
does not know their birth parents. Prior to the reform, people did not consider the ethical or
moral problems that would arise from these kind of adoptions. The belief was that sealed records
would protect everyone, but this is not the case. As adoptees grew into adults, the demand for
more information on their birth parents increased. This led to the debate of whether or not
adoptees were entitled to know the identity of their biological parents. The opposition from birth
mothers appeared almost immediately after the reform set about. These mothers were not ready to
give up their own rights to make the decision between open or closed adoption. Even though
biological parents have the ability to choose, adoptees have the right to know their biological
parents because of the search process being emotionally damaging, their need to access medical
records, and their development as a child.
Some people believe that it is the biological parents personal choice to stay hidden based on their
situation. In defense of the birth mother and father, it is understandable that open adoption does not

man because Doodle has conflicts with not living up to what Brother wants. Although Brother

get too excited, too hot, too cold, or too tired... must be treated gently. Disobeying these
instructions can come with consequences. The doctor then goes on saying some movements

10. Mary Queen Of Scots Summary
Lauren Lefevers
World history

Mary Queen of Scots
The book I chose to read was Mary Queen of Scots. The author of this book is Sally Stepanek. The
book was published by Chelsea House Publishers in 1987 with a total of 110 pages. The book is
about Mary Stuart and her life as a queen and also as a prisoner. It tells of the hardships she had
went through and the good times too.
To me the book mostly over sees the hardships Mary had went through. Like having to leave her
home land when she was an infant to having her throne taken away by her own son that
disowned her. She had three husbands that all left her as a widow. While the book is about Mary
s life it also tells a lot about others too. I did not like the book because I felt as though it was
repetitive in some parts and also it was not as interesting as I thought it was going to be. I do
believe that if people besides me that were interested in it, it would be very successful book, but to
me I would not purchase or read this book again.
Second of all, the book is all about Mary s life from birth to her unfair death. The author often tells
about the fighting between the Protestants and Catholic Church. It also tells of her three husbands
and her many lovers threw her life. The important conclusions is that Mary was Queen of France
and Queen of Scots, also how she was tried for treason and the murder of her second husband Lord
Darnley. Also there was a battle over the infant Queen with

We Are Virginia Tech Speaking is form of art that can either be a natural gift or a practiced

realistic, there are many ways in which a person can speak. Nikki Giovanni s speech We Are
Virginia Tech makes people cry, rejoice, and move on. A speech is one form of art that can
evoke these types of emotions from people. In Nikki Giovanni s poem We Are Virginia Tech,
which was spoken at a memorial ceremony for Virginia Tech shooting victims, she uses her tone
and a repetition of words to make her speech very powerful. The tone of her voice is very distinct,
she speaks with poise and confidence, while remaining remorseful but positive... Show more content

People in the audience who lost close loved ones in this disaster may not think the other worldly
tragedies Giovanni describes are of the same magnitude as this. For others though these images
she gives may help them connect with the loss some are experiencing. Speeches can affect
people in different ways, some speeches will inspire you, others will make you reflect on your
own life, some will teach you a life lesson, but Nikki Giovanni s poem was meant to bring
together a group of disheartened people. Giovanni s speech did not affect me as intensely as it
did to the families of the victims who actually saw her give the speech. Similar to whether you
are seeing a photo of a piece of artwork or seeing it in person, seeing or hearing a recording of a

after she is finished, or standing up with a newfound inspiration to stand tall and put this tragedy

13. Strawberries and Obesity
To the Editor, It is quite noticeable that obesity rates in the United States are continually rising.
When a person is obese, they have an increase risk to diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart
disease, various cancers, etc. (Haslam James 2005). There are countless studies conducted to
see the possible effects obesity can cause to an individual. One study concluded, if two obese
individuals have a child, that child has a high percentage of being obese as well (Kolata 2007).
Although there are different methods to help individuals lose weight, there are different reasons
for people not to lose the excess weight. The most common responses for individual s not to lose
weight are, I don t have time to go to the gym, Workout DVD s are expensive, and Healthy and
fresh foods are too expensive for me to buy. Nevertheless, if there was only one fruit that could
possibly help any individual s health dilemma(s), that fruit should be strawberries. Studying the
effects of what strawberries can do to an individual s health is a relatively new study.
Nonetheless, there was a study conducted in Oklahoma, to examine the effects strawberries had
on women who were obese and women who were healthy (Basu et al 2009). For four weeks, the
study was preformed; the researchers had the women drink strawberry flavonoids equivalent to
amount of fresh fruit serving everyday (Basu et al 2009). Based off observation, strawberries are

14. What Were The Pros Of The Vikings
By the Xth century the Vikings (also called Northmen ) used to raid one European monastery
after another (Richards, 2005). The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much
chaos. It was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham
Campbell, 1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and
vanished. They were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions
were described as insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder
seamen (Graham Campbell, 1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us
aware of the fact that their raids on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. Due to that, a
certain stereotype of their being wild, rude, aggressive and destructive prevails in human history.
They became notorious for being merciless barbarians, pirates, ravagers and beasts. But were they

good warriors and accomplished seamen, the Vikings were skillful jewelers and sculptors (Graham

The beauty in both the myth and the show are not seen by others. Beauty is in the eye of the
beholder means that beauty is determined by each person individually. Disapproval of oneself
and of a couple can be hard to overcome. Ovid s, Pyramus and Thisbe highlights the theme of
forbidden love. Their fathers are opposed to them being together so they decide to run away to
be together. The myth says, This time, after/ sighing/ their tale of woe, they made a decision:
when all was quiet/ that night, they would try to elude their guards and steal/ out of doors (4.83
85). Running away is the only way that Pyramus and Thisbe could be together, so that s what
they did. Being together was more important to them than anything else. Although their fathers
disapproved them being together they didn t care, their love for eachother was so strong that no
barrier could ever stop them from loving each other. In the show Twilight zone, Ms. Tyler was
not accepted because she looked different than the majority of people. The narrator in the show

16. The Implications Of Prospect Theory
The aspects that prospect theory takes into account and the expected utility doesn t, are
emphasis on low probability events and protective willingness, which means greater risk
aversion for precautionary decisions under risk (Kusev, P., van Schaik, P., Ayton, P., Dent, J.
Chater, N. 2009). These are called heuristics and biases in decision making. In this part, other
heuristics and biases of framing of the problem, gambler s fallacy and overconfidence will be
discussed in depth with respective example and ACAR of its significance on process of making
decisions. Firstly, the bias is framing of the problem. When people frame the problem in different
ways, it will result in different decision. The example is observed when the description of options
in terms of gains (positive frame) rather than losses (negative frame) elicits systematically
different choices (Gonzalez, C., Dana, J., Koshino, H. Just, M. 2005). This takes an important
place in business decision making. ACAR is made following. Frame (2012) outlines that framing
is the first step when people make decisions. Russo and Schoemaker (1989) proves that this bias
affects the recognition and response to problems by providing the boundaries (what will be
considered part of the choice set), reference points (elements used to determine success and failure),
and yardsticks (how the outcomes are measured) . Nevertheless, different people can have different
framing of the problem so if they exchange thoughts, outcomes

The first person narrative is a story told from the first person perspective. The narrator is speaking
directly about him or herself. The first person narrator can be either subjective or objective. The
third objective narrative is a story told by a nonparticipating character. The narrator is usually
detached from the story. Sometimes, the narratorcompletely penetrates the mindof a character. Third
person narration is often used in documentaries. The omniscient narrators are often not part of the
story but are all knowing observers. These narrators tell the reader all the facts we need to know to
fully understand the story. Since the woman thinks that she is seeing a ghost, I would use the first

voice over narrative, the off screen narrator is usually also a character in the story but not always.
The narration in realist movies is almost invisible. The story unfolds by itself in a chronological

direct the story and keep everything on track. In formalist movies, the narrator is manipulative.

18. College Is The Third Greenest College Of America By...
Oberlin college is ranked as the 4th greenest college in America by popularmechanics.com, and it
makes sense. It incorporates sustainability into its curriculum, but it also uses brand new
technologies, such as solar panels and electric cars. Campuses that are more sustainable seem to
have two main characteristics. The first is they are often in more rural settings, and usually use this
setting to their advantage, by having big farms and creating nature reserves. The second is that
they invest in more environmentally friendly technology before other colleges. Most colleges in
the United States are attempting to become more sustainable, but many are taking the wrong
approach to doing so. For example, USC is making efforts towards becoming more sustainable, and
while some of these efforts are valid, many merely appear to be so that USC market itself as more
sustainable. Colleges that put an emphasis on using new, more sustainable technologies tend to be
more sustainable than those that simply try to spread the ideas of sustainability. While creating an
environmentally conscious student body is important, it may not be achievable everywhere.
Right now, the most sustainable schools are in rural environments. This becomes quite evident by
looking at popularmechanics.com s top 10 most sustainable schools ranking; almost all of the
colleges on this list have many acres of campus, located in the outskirts of a small town or city.

19. Tattoo Influence On American Culture
The electric tattoo machine, invented by Samuel O Reilly, revolutionized the tattoo industry.
Previously a niche activity only practiced by native groups and upper class Westerners, tattooing
became a widespread American practice. Margo DeMello, a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology,
declares, Tattooing...is as American as baseball, Mom, and apple pie . Tattooing did not originate in
America, but styles and technology originating in America have significantly shaped the modern,
global tattooscene. O Reilly s tattoo machine brought tattooing to the main stage of the American
consciousness by making tattoos available to the masses. His machine made tattooing faster and
less expensive. The innovation specifically allowed lower classes to get tattooed and this caused
the cultural perspective of tattoos to shift. Due to the huge investment of time and money that
getting tattooed previously required, it was considered a mark of wealth. This association was

In his reports back to Britain, he illustrated the tattoos he encountered along with the other

Through three voyages through the Pacific, many crewmembers received tattoos as souvenirs.
Cook s 1774 trip to the South Seas brought Mai , a tattooed Tahitian, to Britain (See Appendix
A). Mai served as a guide and interpreter to Cook and his crew, but upon return to England he was
set on display in museums and fairs. Europe s first exposure to tattoos framed the practice as
exotic. Tattoos were seen as something that strange people in very distant lands did to their bodies.

Southern Comfort is often thought of as a whisky, however it is actually a liqueur made from a
neutral flavoured spirit with whisky, fruit and spice flavourings. Martin Wilkes Heron, an Irish
immigrant living in the USA, worked as a barman in McCauley s Saloon in the French Quarter

21. The Labor Theory Of Value
The labor theory of value is an economic theory first proposed by Adam Smith that states that the
value of a good or service is determined by the labor it takes to create the product under normal
circumstances. Furthermore, supply and demand do not affect value, only price. An economist and
philosopher named Karl Marxbelieves this theory proves that capitalismis inherently exploitative of
the working class. Every person has labor power, or the ability to work. However, labor power is
fueled by external resources (such as food, water, clothing, and transportation to the workplace)
which all have value as well, so when an individual s work is more valuable than that sustenance,
surplus value generates. Surplus value will benefit the business rather than the laborer, therefore
Marx believed capitalism is inherently exploitative. Additionally, he thought that capitalistic society
is made up of classes that are bound to struggle consequentially, that this would lead a state to
naturally shift into communism. Nonetheless, this theory is not commonly accepted; marginalism
is the belief that not only the labor used in manufacturing affects its value, but the marginal utility
the overall satisfaction from the good or service. There is a multitude of other opposing theories
and criticisms of Marx s beliefs.
There are many different systems of economics, but if Marx s logic were consistent, each of them
would be exploitative. Capitalism, the least because the working class has

In S. Y. Agon s story The Lady and the Peddler, A Jewish peddler named Joseph roams through
an unknown forest, but stops at the house of a woman, living alone, to sell some of his wares.
After he leaves her house, Joseph gets caught in terrible weather and returns to the woman s
house to see if he could stay there until the storm is over. Helen, the homeowner, eventually
accepts him in her house, and in exchange, Joseph makes small repairs around the house. Joseph
ends up staying there through winter and abandons his peddler ways. He drops his guard and
relaxes, blissfully ignorant of the danger awaiting him. Joseph stops behaving like a Jew, he eats
the feast she prepares for him dropping the dietary Jewish dietary restrictions, and changes his
dress by wearing Helen s old husband s clothes. Joseph lives with Helen like he is her husband,
but one day he realizes that Helen wants to kill him, and drink his blood just as she had done with
her previous husbands. After a two failed attempts on his life, Helen ends up killing herself instead.

1.The mammalian OR is part of the GPCR superfamily, while the topological distinct family of
transmembrane proteins defines the insect OR. The insect OR is comprised of a heteromeric

mammalian OR is located extracellularly while it is located intracellularly for the insect OR. The C

the insect OR.
2.First, odorant compounds bind to an odorant receptor (OR) for mammals. A transduction cascade,
which involves a G protein and AC3, is activated. This will produce a second messenger, cyclic
AMP. Because cAMP binds to cyclic nucleotide gated (CNG) channel, cations Na+ and Ca2+ will
be in abundance. This will depolarize the cell membrane. At this stage the Ca2+ Ca2+ can activate
dependent Cl channel as well. Olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) will have high concentrations of

Introduction:
I currently work for the company Jimmy John s under the supervision of Raymond Gonzales.
When given this assignment, I spoke to Mr. Gonzales to see if he had any personal inquiries
about the day to day operations of Jimmy Johns. Mr. Gonzales spoke to me about how he has
always been curious to know why the employee turnover rate is so high. The store I currently
work at has many veteran workers who have been there for over a year. Then again, in my short

that the employee turnover rate is high and decided to investigate.

Jimmy John decided to start franchising. This year, Jimmy John s stores are projected for annual
sales of $1.2 million and $280,000 in average net profits (CNN, 2011). In the first 10 year 10 stores

121 loans were taken out in the name of Jimmy John s, and only 2 failed. This gives a loan
failure rate of 1.7% for the company as a whole. In 2002 Jimmy John discovered that 70 of his 160
stores were failing. At that time he stopped selling franchises and teamed with his president to turn
around the 70 failing stores. He soon found out that the stores were not following the systems that
Jimmy John had set in place himself. He observed that some of the stores were not committed to the
restaurant lifestyle of long days and even longer nights. Jimmy John committed 18 months to
working with the failing stores. After that time period the decision was made that 7 of the failing
stores could not be saved and that shutting down would be the best option. Jimmy John Liautaud is

28. Etiology of Pediatric Obesity
Fast food, as an aspect of our cultural identity, alone, cannot be responsible for the epidemic of
childhood obesity in the United States, as the behavior of children is largely reliant on the
influences of their parents. Home and social environments, parenting styles, family feeding
practices are the primary influences on early childhood nutritional behaviors. Obesity is a
serious and widespread health problem in only certain kinds of societies characterized by
economic modernizations, food surplus, and social acceptance. GENETICS During adiposity,
around 5 to 6 years of age, a child s body fatness declines to a minimum before increasing into
adulthood. A study conducted at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound found evidence of
normal weight children with at least one overweight parent at the time of adiposity rebound, is
nearly 5 times as likely to be obese as an adult. However, if both parents are obese before the
child reaches adiposity rebound, there is 13 times the risk of the child becoming an obese adult.
Generally recognized as genetic predispositions, the causes of excess adiopsity may affect a
variety of possible physiological processes, including basal metabolic rates. Individuals with fat
phenotypes are likely to develop adult obesity but genetic inheritance does not cause obesity alone
(Whitiker). PARENTING These obese parents are creating specific food environments for their
children containing high fat, high calorie, energy dense foods. High fat foods

those containing phenolic compounds with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Tea is one of
the important dietary sources of these compounds. In recent years, there is a growing interest in
green tea due to scientific findings, which shows the health potentials of the beverage. Green tea
polyphenols act as anticariogenic12 and antibacterial13 agents. Catechins14 present in green tea

Northumberland, Sidney grew up with a strong motherly influence, given his father s absences. Due
to this fact, it is believed that he gained a unique understanding of the womanly world, as evidenced
in many of his poems.

characteristics which ultimately led to the demise of the empire.
To begin with, the Ottoman Empire was initially founded in the fourteenth century by a Sunni
Muslim named Osman I. From the very beginning one of the number one goals of the Ottoman
Empire was to expand. One of the ways that the Ottomans expanded their empire was with a strong

In the Safavid Empire s case Turkic leaders attempted many times to overthrow the shah. Much
like Janissaries in the Ottoman Empire the Safavid Empire had young Christian born males as
slaves that were forced to serve and protect the shah at all costs. The difference between the two
is that Janissaries were of the Ottoman Empire, while in the Safavid Empire the young male
slaves were not of the Safavid Empire. Since the people of the Safavid Empire were strictly Shi a
Muslims the young male slaves were converted and brought up as Shi a Muslims. Ultimately, they
positively contributed to the Safavid Empire by adding loyal subjects. Unlike the Ottoman Empire
the Safavid Empire was a theocracy. All in all, while the Safavid Empire did not last nearly as long
as the Ottoman Empire, which ended in the 1700 s, the Safavid Empire was unique and famously
remembered for its cultural impact.
The demise of the Ottoman Empire began in the early twentieth century. The world was beginning
to become more industrialized and because of that economies were rapidly changing. The sultans
were not prone to taking this into consideration and firmly believed that since the Ottoman Empire
survived that long just as it was then there was no need to reinvent themselves by becoming more

One of those is the alien conspiracy theory. The alien conspiracy theory suggests the reasons for
criminal actions are because of outside influences. It proclaims that criminals have moved to the
United States and started a criminal organization here (Rogers, 2011). This theory is supported by
the movie makers in America. Most movies on organized crime portray the leaders of the
organization as foreigners. They walk, dress, and act a certain way. The alien conspiracy theory
posits that organized crime gained prominence in the 1860s in Sicily and that Sicilian
immigrants are responsible for the foundations of U.S. organized crime, which is made up of 25
or so Italian dominated crime families. Also known as the La Cosa Nostra, the families are
composed of wise guys or made men and number about 1700 members (Lyman amp; Potter, 2007).
This theory also suggests strong family bonds. Because each member is of the same nationality it
is easier to influence him to join the organization. This is prevalent in organized crime. If one
family member is a part of the organization, the outside influence and loyalty may be enough to
coerce others into the business. Another theory applicable to criminal behavior is the rational
choice theory. This theory occurs when people choose to commit a crime after weighing the
benefits and consequences of the action. Examples of this theory include a man who discovers

There were many uses for CFCs ranging from, being used as coolants in refrigerants to

36. A Study Of Changes Throughout Gene Expression
Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene expression which may be inherited with no changes to
the DNA sequence itself it may account for non Mendelian population inheritance patterns.
Transgenerational inheritance requires a chromosomal or epigenetic change in the germline
allowing the information to be passed on from one generation to another (Anway et al 2005a). In
order for epigenetic marks to be passed down, the gametes need to conserve their epigenomes by
avoiding two reprogramming events; in the gamete and zygote. DNA demethylation is avoided in
some genes called imprinting genes which retain their sex specific patterns. The environment and
external factors may cause additional information to be added on top of the genome. It has
generally been accepted that epigenetic marks are removed and re established in the preceding
generation, thus not inherited. Nevertheless, many studies carried out on model organisms are
challenging this concept and suggesting that this may not be entirely correct. There may be an
incomplete clearing of epigenetic marks resulting in transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. The
present generations where being synthesised in the womb of their grandmother. Therefore, does the
food my grandmother ate affect my development? Could the air we breathe affect our
grandchildren? Many questions are still unknown in the transgenerational epigenetic inheritance

For many years, cult leaders always had a psychological hold on their followers minds. Whether

fear, violence and guilt as a means of a weapon to control the minds of their followers. Other cult
leaders used persuasive and spiritual speeches that made their followers believe they were doing

The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines cult as: a religion regarded as unorthodox or
spurious; also: its body of adherents. Indeed, any religion involving unconditional worship and
unquestioning obedience to God could be labeled as a cult (using the derogatory suggestion of
the word), since such a religion would have that high level of dependency, obedience, and
unwavering compliance ascribed to cults by definition. Many mainstream religions still require
their members to believe in God unquestioningly, to have faith that he is good and that what he
does is good, to consider one s own wants and needs as unimportant while accepting the will of
God as paramount. All of these are certainly characteristics commonly attributed to cults, but while
it would not be unreasonable to apply this definition of a cult to any dogmatic religion that
requires strict compliance with God s word and will as a condition of membership, the notion of
applying the word cult to Christianity, Islam, Judaism, or any other major world religion today is
considered absurd. There are those who make this very claim: that those who worship God fit the

Joseph Keighley was a thirty year old father whose wife had been subjected to a terrible illness.
He loved her so much that he would perform any task she wished for him to do for her. however
as time passes, she had passed away and his devoted heart for her rendered him to not be with any
woman other than his wife. Love, a powerful word and action is often described to be something in
which you devote your feelings and emotion to something or someone with full intent, however
Love in Antigone, a tragic play, written by Sophoclesreciprocates this idea in a completely new
way. A theme that Sophocles writes throughout Antigone could possibly be the idea of loyalty to
the city versus family, and he often grazes upon the origin on many of the themes, providing
sufficient amount of details that could be used to support them. However, a possible main occuring
theme of Antigone is that Love is unconquerable. This theme surfaces in many ways throughout the
play, specifically, in the idea of Love overpowering every aspect that the Greeks and Athenians
believed to be impenetrable. In the midst of the conflict between Creonand Haemon, Creon
strongly dislikes and neglected Haemon s point of view because he believes that he had been
corrupted by a woman. Haemon is accused of being held captive by Antigone and his love for her
recognized [him as] the slave of a woman, referring to the love that Antigone possesses,

involving both innate and adaptive immune responses that occurs among genetically
predisposed subjects who are exposed to gluten containing foods (Green et al. 2015). People of
all ages, genders, and races can develop CD (Fasano and Catassi 2012). Individuals with CD may
have gastrointestinal symptoms or sometimes no signs of symptoms. The disease is characterized
by severe immune mediated damage to the small intestine, typically involving chronic diarrhea,
weight loss, anemia, and malnutrition (Gayathri and Rashmi 2014). Celiac disease like
phenotypes can be traced back to the Greek physician Aretaeus in the first and second century AD
(Kupfer and Jabri 2012). Since then, improved development of diagnostic testing provides more
accurate data regarding the prevalence of CD, although many people remain undiagnosed.
Epidemiologic studies in the United States and European countries consistently report a
prevalence of 0.5% to 1.0% (Evans and Sanders 2012). CD is also prevalent in developing
countries, like North Africa and the Middle East (Fasano and Catassi 2012). A significant public
health concern remains, as it is estimated that 83% of Americans who have celiac disease are
undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with other conditions (Beyond 2016). The causal factors of CD must
be understood to determine the best diagnostic testing and treatment. The cause of CD is thought to
be due to genetic,

41. Immigrant Youth Mentoring
Refugee and immigrant youth mentoring There are a number of influencing factors that challenge
refugee and immigrant youths acculturation process, including lack of family support, informal
counseling by peers or other adults and a lack of social initiatives to address culturally unique needs
of youth, especially acculturation gap between youth and parents ( Morland, Ellis, Birnam, 2012).
More recent studies on youth development concluded that facilitating youth mentoring relationship
is more likely to benefit the youth, yet, quality matters and strong youth mentor relationship is
associated with positive outcome in acculturation of youth. Suarez, Onaqa, Lardemelle (2010)

42. Neural Modeling
Researchers in the field of neuroscience have long disputed the type of neural modelling that
allows for the processing of visual stimuli in the brain. I believe that a hierarchical framework
exists in which both distributed and localised modelling can occur at different stages. Distributed
modelling occurs at lower hierarchal levels and localised modelling, characterised by grandmother
cells, occurs at higher levels. Neurons in higher levels pool information passed on from lower
levels to so that the representation of concepts becomes more complex and specialised. It is through
this formation of grandmother cells that a visual stimulus can be represented in the brainin an
invariant manner.
Research on the processing of visual stimuli have lead to findings that supports the notion of
hierarchal modelling in the brain. Hubel and Wiesel (1968) discovered the hierarchal coding of
neural cells in the primary visual cortex. Complex cells in this cortex ... Show more content on

hair colour, complexion) are associated with a visual stimulus. This is achieved through the
synchronised and repetitive firing of distributed neurons. Since it just so happened that I was
once good friends with this person, I do actually associate many low level features with her.
Hence, it is more likely that I posses a vastly sparse or localised representation of them in the
higher areas of my brain. The grandmother cell in my brain that has been devoted to her will be
invariantly activated when I am presented with a visual stimulus of her such as the newspaper
photo. Moreover, it allows me to achieve faster neural response and stimulus recognition. It is
possible that this neuron will also be activated when I am presented with a visually similar stimulus
as a result of incidental co activation or that I possess redundant grandmother cells that represent

43. Precipitation Of Precipitation
Precipitation Analysis
With an average annual total rainfall of 53.1 inches, the six stations examined and their mean rates
of precipitation are consistent with the claim that the entire state of Florida receives, on average, 54
inches of precipitation annually. Stations like Deland, Inverness, High Springs and Canal Point
differed little from the expected mean, while Marathon Shores and Niceville deviated noticeably.
This deviation, however, is chiefly explained by the stations locations and the patterns of rainfall
associated with those positions. For example, Marathon Shore s aberration is likely due to the fact
that the area received comparatively less rainfall during the summer months of June through
September with a rather low mean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deland, Inverness and Canal Point, for example, are situated much closer to the coast when
compared to High Springs, and they exhibit a greater total annual precipitation rate of 53.72 inches
as opposed to High Spring s 52.27 inches and a greater annual monthly mean of 4.48 inches
compared to the 4.36 inches of High Springs. While relatively small, this variance among
precipitation rates is still great enough to confirm the claim that most of the time, at least, stations
located closer to the coast experience overall higher mean monthly and mean annual precipitation
rates.
Using the data collected solely from the selected six stations, a possible correlation is unclear
between the amount of precipitation received and the number of hurricane strikes within a given
area despite the claim made in the conceptual model. Niceville, for instance, experiences the highest
overall mean monthly and mean annual precipitation of the six stations in addition to experiencing
the highest mean precipitation rate during the specified months of July through October with a
mean of 6.68 inches, but according to the first map provided in the guidance document, it did not
experience the highest number of hurricane strikes. Between the years of 1900 to 2010, Niceville
was hit but 10 to 12 hurricanes, but the station that received the least amount of rain both in terms
of mean monthly and mean annual precipitation and the

44. Disability And The Justification Of Inequality In American...
While disability rights and awareness have advanced, disabled people have not been able to wrest
total control of the discrimination placed upon them due to the way society uses the idea of
disability as a metaphor signifying human incapacity. In Douglas C. Baynton s, Disability and the
Justification of inequality in American History, he analyzes the controlling metaphor of disability
through race. Similarly watching Donald Trump s infamous speech where he mocks a disabled
reporter shows how the metaphor also relates to hierarchal inferiority. Throughout history,
American culture has come to define disability as a social burden. Metaphors of disability are
utilized in order to justify society s exclusionary stance towards different or abnormal people.
Examples of the usage of this metaphor are omnipresent. Starting in elementary school, children
who learn at a slower pace than others become categorized as handicapped. In daily life and
informal conversation the question, Are you retarded? Berates someone for asking a perceived
obvious question. Society has become accustomed to using the term disability and other slang
referring to disability as a synonym for stupid or incompetent. Many times it goes further than
simply rhetoric; the able bodied, even supposedly fair figures such as The President of the United
States, can use a representation of disabled people to make a point or reference incompetence in
others. This, in turn, further ostracizes disabled people and

Many myths exist concerning the eyes and proper care. For example, easing carrots will help an
individual have good eyesight, yet many other factors also play a role in the health of one s eyes.
Sitting too close to the television won t hurt the eyes either, although many believe doing so will
damage their eyesight. When visiting an optometrist, it s best to discuss any concerns you may
have about your eyes. Your doctor examines the eyes and can provide you individualized
information that will be of benefit to you. Although you may be experiencing one or more problems
similar to those a friend or family member is, your body is unique, thus you need information
specific to you, and your optometrist can provide that information, Dr. Simmons continues.
Understanding the difference between an optometrist and an opthalmologist is of great importance.
An optometrist conducts full vision exams and prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses, among
other things. He or she may also provide medical optometry services. An opthalmologist sees
patients in need of medical eye treatment and surgeries. Vision Institute employs doctors of both
types to best meet the needs of their

the novel, Clarisse has emotions such as love, satisfaction, and happiness. The dandelion
rubbing color on her illustrates how she is able to express these emotions and is an overall ray
of light towards others. Clarisse uses the dandelion to prove to Montag that he lacks these
qualities of lovingness and happiness in his life, which ignites his self revelation. She is a

51. Persuasive Essay On Animal Dissection
Most people have dissected an animal at some point in their education, be it a frog, pig, cat, or
another animal. Every year in the United States, roughly ten million animals are killed and used for
dissection in schools ( Animals Used in Education 1).The surplus of students dissecting animals in
class has led to this substantial number. Dissectionis said to increase student understanding of
biology and an interest in careers in science (Edulab 1), which is why countless schools have their
students dissect animals. However, others advocate for methods that don t involve cruelty to
animals. Why use a learning technique if other methods are less expensive, and some tactics equally
or more effective regarding student learning? Essentially, an abundance of schools incorporate
animal dissection as an educational tool, but they seldom think of how negatively the lives of
countless animals are impacted. People don t fathom the cruelty that happens to animals before
they land on the dissection table, and that is something that needs to be changed. The dissection of
animals for educationhas been a traditionally used teaching tactic for decades, and it is cruel and
should no longer be used. To start, the suppliers of the animals to be dissected have been caught
mistreating their animals. PETA s investigations into biological supply companies, which sell
animal bodies and parts, have uncovered acts of cruelty to animals, including the drowning of
rabbits and the embalming of cats

52. Physiographic Contrasts Between Australia and New Zealand
1.Describe the physiographic contrasts between Australia and New Zealand. In other words, how
are the two countries geographically different?
Australia is a vast, dry, low relief interior, while the island of New Zealand is mountainous with a
temperate climate. Australia is one of the oldest rock on the planet, situated in the center of the
Australian Plate. New Zealand is younger, therefore less stable because of it location along the Ring
of Fire, having plenty of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, however, Australia has neither of these
phenomenas. The elevation differences is considerable, as Australia s highest point, Mount
Kosciosko is lower than the entire elevation of New Zealand, with its high point at Mount Cook.
Along Australia s low relief region there are plateaus, plains, and the Great Artesian Basin provides
essential water to the desert country. In the southern half of Australia were are predominant river
systems, which contains mineral wealth. Australia s physiographic benefits the country, while New
Zealand see it as obstacles, and while they both are surrounded by oceans from every angle, these
two countries vary in many ways governmental, economically, and socially.

It was starting to look as if politics were beginning to become more secular. As it is well known,
after Kennedy s assassination, Lyndon B. Johnson carried out the rest of Kennedy s term, and then
ran for reelection in 1964. Johnson, a left leaning Democrat found himself up against Barry
Goldwater from the right minded Republican Party. Early on in the 20th century, many of
Protestant denominations had adopted progressive, social reformist doctrines, that many people
still value to this day. Despite being Protestant, Goldwater s platform took a much more
conservative approach. This ended up backfiring on him, however, as many Christian publications
stated that they opposed Goldwater s policies. He was further stigmatized by the religious
publication The Christian Century as turning his patriotic rhetoric into religious nationalism. To
make matters worse for Goldwater, in October of 1964, less than a month before the general
election, 725 Episcopalian clergy and laymen from forty one states signed a resolution accusing
him of a transparent exploitation of racialism. Richard Nixon, a Republican and ex Vice President
at the time, claimed that these allegations were the most vicious in political history. As a result,
Lyndon Johnson won the 1964 election in an unprecedented landslide victory, with Barry
Goldwater only winning six states: his native Arizona, and five states in the heart of the Bible Belt
(Kosmin 1993:174 5). While religious leaders in the end
