Friday 21st January – Filming Day One
I had previously agreed with fellow student Jennifer Finnigan that we would begin our filming
on this day as it was the most convenient for both of us. We were filming on campus seeing as
the advert was on stress and one of the largest causes of stress for people our age is
college/school so I had decided the ad would be based in college.
For this filming session I had been using a Canon eos 4000d camera with an 18-55mm lens to
record, also using a tripod for the videos we recorded this day as I needed some scenes to pan
up and down as they opened. We were based in classroom127 as this was a classroom, we
could be alone in meaning less interruptions when we were working. During the filming I had
left the camera to automatically focus on its own as well as leaving the iso, aperture and
shutter speed on the automatic settings as I wasn’t all that familiar with using a camera to
record a video, however halfway through the recording session I changed the iso to manual so
that I could control what it was on to make the recordings darker so that my editing wasn’t as
complicated (As the first scenes were supposed to look dark to imply Jenny was feeling
stressed/upset at the start of the ad.)
To ensure there were no issues with times we had to be recording and locations we were
supposed to be recording in, I had discussed these things before filming with Jennifer Finnigan
which I felt helped the recording process move along smoothly.
Scene One:
I had actually ran into a few issues when it came to recording my advert as the actress in the
advert (Jennifer Finnigan) was having trouble staying focused, often laughing when I was
recording as well as not doing the things, I had originally asked her to do which led to me
having to re-record this scene to get the footage I needed many times (Seven in total.)
(Anexample of one of the videoswherefootage wasunusable.)
I facedthisissue withasmuch professionalismasIcould,alsokeepinginmindthattoomuch criticism
wouldmostlikelyaffecthowJenniferwasacting,bytalkingtoher one on one aboutthe specificsof
whatI neededhertodo duringthe scenessothat we couldmove ontogettingthe nextlotof recording
done as there wasn’tenoughtime forusto keeprerecordingthe scenes.
Scene Two:
There were some issuesIfacedwhenitcame to recordingsome footage of Jennifer’sfriendsatgoalsas
we neededeveryone tosignaconsentformand some of the people onthe fielddidnotwanttobe in
the video.Thismeantthatsome of the time we hadwas wastedaswe hadto waituntil theywere done
playingsothat those whowere okaywithbeinginthe videocouldbe recorded.Iusedthe tripodIused
for the scene above forthisscene as well asIdidn’tfeel thatrecordingthishandheldwouldlookall that
professionalinthe eyesof anexaminer.Afterfacingthe issue withthe time constraintsthough,the
filmingwasfastandeasy,and we gotall the appropriate peopletosignthe consentforms,thengiving
me time to go on andrecord my nextscene before the daywasover.
Scene Three:
The main issue Ihad withthisscene wasthatmy locationhaddarker lightingthanIhad wanteditto,
howeverIrecordedanywayknowingthatIwasgoingto be able tofix thisissue inpost-production.This
scene wasrecordedinthe stairwell of the college,sowe alsohadthe issue of people walkingupand
downthe stairswhilstIwas filminghoweverthisscene wasdone withfast,givingme enoughtimeto
record mylast scene before the college dayended.
Scene Four:
WhenI had recordedthis,Iknewthe lightingwasanissue howeverIknew itcouldbe fixedduringthe
editingstage,soIdidn’tletthisbotherme howeverthe issue reappearedof JenniferlaughingwhilstI
was recordingthe scene,sothisscene hadto be re-recordedsix timestoensure Igotenoughusable
footage touse in my video.Thisissue wasprettymuchjustfixedbyme beingpatientwiththe actressas
I knewithad beena longdayand she was mostlikelysickof havingacamera inher face as I wouldhave
beenhadI beeninhersituation.
Friday 28th
January – Filming Day Two
Seeingasonthe firstdayof recordingwe hadnot gottenall the filmingdone tothe standardI had
wanteditto be,we had continuedtofilmonFridaythe 28th
as Fridayswere the mostconvenientfor
bothof us (usbeingmyself andJenniferFinnigan). Iendedupre-recordingtwoof the scenesonthisday
as I had gone overthe footage duringthe weekandfoundthatmy footage wasactuallyblurryinplaces
and I didn’tfeel thislookedprofessional.Ire-recordedthe scene of Jennifersmilingonthe stairwell as
well asthe scene of her readingandseeingastheywere bothrecordedinthe same location(The
stairwell)Thistooklessthanhalf anhour. Afterreviewingall of the footage Ideemeditall appropriate
and couldthenmove ontothe post-productionprocess/editingmyvideo.

  • 1. Friday 21st January – Filming Day One I had previously agreed with fellow student Jennifer Finnigan that we would begin our filming on this day as it was the most convenient for both of us. We were filming on campus seeing as the advert was on stress and one of the largest causes of stress for people our age is college/school so I had decided the ad would be based in college. For this filming session I had been using a Canon eos 4000d camera with an 18-55mm lens to record, also using a tripod for the videos we recorded this day as I needed some scenes to pan up and down as they opened. We were based in classroom127 as this was a classroom, we could be alone in meaning less interruptions when we were working. During the filming I had left the camera to automatically focus on its own as well as leaving the iso, aperture and shutter speed on the automatic settings as I wasn’t all that familiar with using a camera to record a video, however halfway through the recording session I changed the iso to manual so that I could control what it was on to make the recordings darker so that my editing wasn’t as complicated (As the first scenes were supposed to look dark to imply Jenny was feeling stressed/upset at the start of the ad.) To ensure there were no issues with times we had to be recording and locations we were supposed to be recording in, I had discussed these things before filming with Jennifer Finnigan which I felt helped the recording process move along smoothly. Scene One: I had actually ran into a few issues when it came to recording my advert as the actress in the advert (Jennifer Finnigan) was having trouble staying focused, often laughing when I was recording as well as not doing the things, I had originally asked her to do which led to me having to re-record this scene to get the footage I needed many times (Seven in total.) (Anexample of one of the videoswherefootage wasunusable.)

I facedthisissue withasmuch professionalismasIcould,alsokeepinginmindthattoomuch criticism wouldmostlikelyaffecthowJenniferwasacting,bytalkingtoher one on one aboutthe specificsof whatI neededhertodo duringthe scenessothat we couldmove ontogettingthe nextlotof recording done as there wasn’tenoughtime forusto keeprerecordingthe scenes. Scene Two: There were some issuesIfacedwhenitcame to recordingsome footage of Jennifer’sfriendsatgoalsas we neededeveryone tosignaconsentformand some of the people onthe fielddidnotwanttobe in the video.Thismeantthatsome of the time we hadwas wastedaswe hadto waituntil theywere done playingsothat those whowere okaywithbeinginthe videocouldbe recorded.Iusedthe tripodIused for the scene above forthisscene as well asIdidn’tfeel thatrecordingthishandheldwouldlookall that professionalinthe eyesof anexaminer.Afterfacingthe issue withthe time constraintsthough,the filmingwasfastandeasy,and we gotall the appropriate peopletosignthe consentforms,thengiving me time to go on andrecord my nextscene before the daywasover. Scene Three: The main issue Ihad withthisscene wasthatmy locationhaddarker lightingthanIhad wanteditto, howeverIrecordedanywayknowingthatIwasgoingto be able tofix thisissue inpost-production.This scene wasrecordedinthe stairwell of the college,sowe alsohadthe issue of people walkingupand downthe stairswhilstIwas filminghoweverthisscene wasdone withfast,givingme enoughtimeto record mylast scene before the college dayended. Scene Four: WhenI had recordedthis,Iknewthe lightingwasanissue howeverIknew itcouldbe fixedduringthe editingstage,soIdidn’tletthisbotherme howeverthe issue reappearedof JenniferlaughingwhilstI was recordingthe scene,sothisscene hadto be re-recordedsix timestoensure Igotenoughusable footage touse in my video.Thisissue wasprettymuchjustfixedbyme beingpatientwiththe actressas I knewithad beena longdayand she was mostlikelysickof havingacamera inher face as I wouldhave beenhadI beeninhersituation. Friday 28th January – Filming Day Two Seeingasonthe firstdayof recordingwe hadnot gottenall the filmingdone tothe standardI had wanteditto be,we had continuedtofilmonFridaythe 28th as Fridayswere the mostconvenientfor bothof us (usbeingmyself andJenniferFinnigan). Iendedupre-recordingtwoof the scenesonthisday
  • 3. as I had gone overthe footage duringthe weekandfoundthatmy footage wasactuallyblurryinplaces and I didn’tfeel thislookedprofessional.Ire-recordedthe scene of Jennifersmilingonthe stairwell as well asthe scene of her readingandseeingastheywere bothrecordedinthe same location(The stairwell)Thistooklessthanhalf anhour. Afterreviewingall of the footage Ideemeditall appropriate and couldthenmove ontothe post-productionprocess/editingmyvideo.
