1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. Camera/Filming
Picture of me
filming the
kidnapper clips:
Because I was in charge of filming I learnt all the basics when operating the Canon
camera we used. I also watched other student film openings so I was able to see what
kind of framing was used and researched the different shots you mostly expect to find in
crime dramas to make it looked as professional. This research helped a lot throughout
filming as it ensured we were getting the best shots as possible that were framed
correctly to get the nicest view we could.
Another important aspect I leant when filming is baring in mind the editing process and
how different shots can flow properly when it came to being edited. I had to make sure
that all the shots worked together and would join properly to make the editing process
as easy as possible. This is something I especially has to consider when it came to the
kidnapper scenes as I had to make sure that the bike scene before the kidnapper clip
flowed with the next bike shot to keep the filming smooth and not too jumpy when
being viewed.
A long with the camera I also learnt how to use a tripod properly to keep the shots
steady when filming in the village and so I was able to slowly move the camera to track
Eleanor cycling past.
3. Editing
• Jasmine was in charge of editing in our group but after watching and helping this process I have learnt
the Importance of editing and the basic techniques. I now understand how to do basic cuts, transitions
and how to lay text over the top of shots as well as my way around the premiere pro software. I also
learnt how to make still images move by watchingYouTube videos as this is what we needed to do
when making our ident. As well asYouTube Sion Roe held an editing workshop during one of our
lessons where he taught everyone the key aspects of premiere pro we will need when making our film
opening or might be useful in the future. I have learnt how important it is to make sure that the clip
isn’t over edited or under edited to ensure that the overall opening flows properly which is something
we had to keep in mind when it came to some of the bike shots as we had to film some of them from
her starting off and getting momentum which meant they then had to be cut down properly o there
were no slow starts.
4. Sound
• Again even though Eleanor was in charge of sound after helping find music that fitted and watching the editing
process of it I have picked up on the basic skills needed to make sure that each music clip is edited properly
to fit the footage and is in time with what is happening on screen. I also leant how to add transactions
between the music so that it flows properly from one scene to another without it being jumpy, something
we had to think about when changing the music for the kidnapper scenes. We also tried not to use too many
different music effects so it is continuous throughout the opening. I learnt the importance of checking a
variety of different styles of music instead of just choosing the first one you find as not all of them then work
properly when you watch it back with your footage and because sound is a really important aspect of
creating a certain atmosphere, so because of this we made sure we checked as many sound sites we could
before finally picking one.
• Even though we didn’t end up including it in our own work, we had an upper sixth student come into one of
our lessons to teach us how to synchronise sound by using a microphone and later syncing it in time with
the footage.
