Recording Diary
Seeing as most of the days when I recorded were cloudy, it was essential that I had to use different
settings for the camera than I would have if it were a sunny day like I had planned. The settings I
commonly defaulted to were an Iso ranging between 400 and 800 depending on how clear the sky was,
a low shutter speed so ensure that more light was being let in, I opened up my aperture for the times
where I had been recording close to something however it was more closed when I was places like
Penshaw as I had to record the landscape there. For sunny days, the settings I commonly used were a
shutter speed of 1/200 sec, I had the ISO on auto as the amount of light kept changing, I set my aperture
to f/8.
I did not have access to a tripod when I was filming this time, so I was recording with a
handheld tripod that I had bought off of Amazon. It helped reduce how shaky my shots were,
however, it proved to not be as helpful as I had wanted it to be. Obviously, I also used the
camera and my SD card. As well as this, I had access to a dolly to use for the shots of the
landscape however because the hill was muddy at one of the locations this meant that it was
not safe for me to use that specific piece of equipment as I had intended to.
I also ensured to take multiple takes at each location so that I had backup footage for each
location in case some of the footage was blurry, got corrupted or just was not up to the
standard I wanted it to be. Because of this I ended up finishing with 329 pieces of footage to
use, some being images and most others being videos.
28th November:
 I began taking images on this day at the Sunderland Graveyard as the weather was
alright. It was cloudy however it was somewhat cold, so I had to ensure that I wore
layers. It wasn’t all that windy, but I still ensured to wear gear that would keep me warm
just in case the forecast was wrong, and there was wind.
5th December:
 I had originally planned on recording on the 5th of December however it was rainy and
that therefore stopped me from recording. This was because I did not want to risk any
damage to the camera, and I wanted to record at the park this day however the rain
made it so that the ground would be too muddy and slippery for me to record.
16th January:
 Seeing as the weather was nice on this day, I went to four of the locations that I had
planned on filming as some of the locations were close to another, the furthest being
forty-five minutes away on foot, which I did not mind walking. The locations I filmed at
on this date were the Empire, the Queen Elizabeth Bridge, Mowbray Park and St Peters
Church. The only issue was that I had to go out later than I had wanted to see as the
weather was unpleasant when I had originally planned on going out.
Some behind the scenes shots from 19th
Jan:
I used grid lines on each of my shots to ensure that the framing of the shots was as centered as possible.
This was to ensure that the shots were of the highest quality, as if the shots were off centre this would
be visually unappealing. I wanted a centered composition so that the place of interest was in the centre.
I wanted the shot to be as symmetrical as it could be considering it was a shot of buildings. I used the
handheld tripod as this shot was panning from a high angle to a visual angle, almost as if the camera was
acting as if it were someone's eyes, panning the same way they would.
19th January:
 I saved this location to a day on its own as it required a bit of travel involved with me
getting there. The location for this day was to go to Penshaw Monument. The clouds
had caused a few issues for me however the worst part of the weather was the wind.
However, it didn’t really cause an issue for me seeing as the audio was not needed for
the documentary as I’m adding a voiceover. I made sure to film a lot of extra footage
here due to the weather conditions making everything shakier than I was comfortable
with.
I had went out with my family to Penshaw Monument so I took some photos of everything we did that
day. So here are the behind the scenes of the shoot at Penshaw Monument:
I planned on mentioning the quality of everything at the farm shop as I was to mention it in my
documetnary and wanted to be able to touch on my own personal experiences of the place.
23rd January:
 This was my last day recording and the last location I needed to record at was Barnes
Park, which was easy to record at as the location is near to both the College and my
workplace. Once that was done, I went into college and used my SD Card reader to get
all of my footage uploaded to OneDrive to ensure that I don’t lose any of the footage.
