The document discusses smart cities and focuses on Barcelona, Singapore, Dubai, and Shenzhen as examples. It highlights quotes about how cities reinforce behaviors and how inhabitants define a city's identity. It questions where lonely, unhappy, or unwell people are in idealized smart city neighborhoods and who may be excluded. It asks how exclusion could be reversed and where public spaces are. The document raises concerns about potential side effects like mass tourism or tourism-phobia in smart cities.

SXSW 2014 : How Overcrowded Asian Cities Inspire InnovationTara Hirebet
Asia’s megacities with their populations of 10 or more million, appear to be centres of chaos, but we will look at how the need to enjoy and cope with life in them, makes them centres for some of the most creative and unique Asian innovations.
From time-saving and feature-crazy digital applications and platforms that allow Asian consumers to squeeze in as many activities, experiences, interactions and tasks as possible into every moment (and not miss out on anything.)
To concepts and solutions that help them improve or solve the frustrations and dangers of overcrowded living (transport and traffic jams, lack of living space and greenery, as well as pollution and food safety and health issues).
We take a look at examples from every corner of the region (not just China and India, but also South East Asia, Nepal, Pakistan) and how they're trying to answer their population's changing needs.

Evaluation criteria for Urbanism based on Sustainability and Spatial JusticeRoberto Rocco
What if we could evaluate projects, plans and designs using an enhanced concept of sustainability? “For sustainability to occur, it must occur simultaneously in each of its three dimensions” (economic, social and environmental) Larsen, 2012. These three crucial and necessary dimensions of sustainability are, each of them, connected to big traditions of study and analysis that must be integrated. My claim here is that this enhanced concept of sustainability help us derive solid criteria to evaluate plans, project and designs in Urbanism through the idea of Spatial Justice, and to connect this evaluation to larger academic traditions.
A few weeks ago I had a chance to represent Edigma at the Zoom Smart Cities 2016 conference and talk a little bit about interactivity, art and technology in the public space.
Dr Calzada took part in the panel 'The city as a technology consumer. Vision 2030' in the programme of the Open Innovation Forum 2015 in Moscow (Russia) by presenting this '10 Provocations to Design Strategies of our (Smart) Cities' and quoting the journal article 'Unplugging: Deconstructing the Smart Cities' via Journal of Urban Technology. This presentation is a full version of the presentation he delivered two days later in the Museum of Moscow in front of an wide entrepreneurial audience.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
