How does HR fit into change?
 According to Business Consultant, Brad Power, in an
Article from Bayside Solutions there are several
standard ways that HR can help move change along.
HR involvement in organizational
change
 Hiring
 Inform new employee’s of changes in the company
 New employees can help implement change by being
trained and understanding the new ways of operation
 Training
 Implement training for new policies and ways of work
 Have employees mentor one another
 Design programs that will help properly train managers

 Employee Recognition
 Can enhance culture
 Letting employees know that they’re doing well can help move
change along
 Relocate Workers
 When change happens and there isn’t a need for certain jobs,
employee’s can be retrained and put in new positions
 Re-analyze Jobs/Rewrite Job descriptions
 Jobs can change as organizations change
 Can help management adjust to change

effectively reinforcing change.

 Have a clear vision
 This can help reduce misunderstandings among
employees and make change easier.
 Have an effective way to communicate with employees
 Make sure they have all the information they need to
know about the upcoming changes and how they will be
impacted by them.

 The fastest way to lose morale in the work place is to play

 Try to keep the best employees without playing favorites

 Good leadership can really make or break a company.
How can HR help develop
leaders?
 As we have seen, HR has to step up and become a
leader during times of change
 HR can also help develop leaders within the
organization
 According to Emma Donaldson-Feilder, from
halogensoftware.com there are four steps HR can take
to create successful leaders
Defining what good leadership
means
 The best way to begin developing good leaders is to
define what it means to be a good leader within the
company.
 Everyone has their own idea of what it means to be a
leader.
 It is best for HR to set define leadership so the leaders
in the company can all have a unified idea of what they
are supposed to do.
Developing leaders’ skills
 A major problem with leadership is that people are put
in leadership positions that they aren’t fully trained for.
 To effectively develop their skills HR must:
 Understand how capable each potential leader is
 Create programs that not only help current leaders
develop their skills, but future leaders as well.
Creating systems, processes, and policies
that support good leadership
 This can help set goals, and show to others what good
leadership looks like, and support current leadership.
 Can use systems such as:
 Learning and development
 Recruiting
 Promotion and appraisal
Creating conditions in which the value of
leadership is recognized
 This means to make sure leadership is supported and
recognized by all levels of the company.
 The top of the company can be the hardest to convince
that this is important, however there are ways to prove
to them that leadership within all parts of the company
can be successful.
HR and organizational leadership
 Overall, HR can do a lot when it comes to leadership.
 HR can be the leaders within the company
 HR can also help create leaders in the company
through leadership development.
How does HR and leadership development
relate to organizational change?
 As stated before, leaders in a company can help a
company through change.
 While HR is a leader for a company working through
change, they can also help develop workers skills and
make change easier to adapt to.

  • 4. How does HR fit into change?  According to Business Consultant, Brad Power, in an Article from Bayside Solutions there are several standard ways that HR can help move change along.
  • 5. HR involvement in organizational change  Hiring  Inform new employee’s of changes in the company  New employees can help implement change by being trained and understanding the new ways of operation  Training  Implement training for new policies and ways of work  Have employees mentor one another  Design programs that will help properly train managers
  • 6. HR involvement in organizational change  Employee Recognition  Can enhance culture  Letting employees know that they’re doing well can help move change along  Relocate Workers  When change happens and there isn’t a need for certain jobs, employee’s can be retrained and put in new positions  Re-analyze Jobs/Rewrite Job descriptions  Jobs can change as organizations change  Can help management adjust to change
  • 7. What other ways can HR improve change?  According to the American Management Association there are several best practices that are involved in effectively reinforcing change.

Best practices for HR during change  Have a clear vision  This can help reduce misunderstandings among employees and make change easier.  Have an effective way to communicate with employees  Make sure they have all the information they need to know about the upcoming changes and how they will be impacted by them.
  • 9. Best practices for HR during change  Create a fair work environment for all employees  The fastest way to lose morale in the work place is to play favorites  Try to keep the best employees without playing favorites  Give credit where credit is due

  • 11. Organizational Leadership  Good leaders are very important to organizational change.  Not just limited to organizational change.  Good leadership can really make or break a company.
  • 12. How can HR help develop leaders?  As we have seen, HR has to step up and become a leader during times of change  HR can also help develop leaders within the organization  According to Emma Donaldson-Feilder, from halogensoftware.com there are four steps HR can take to create successful leaders

Defining what good leadership means  The best way to begin developing good leaders is to define what it means to be a good leader within the company.  Everyone has their own idea of what it means to be a leader.  It is best for HR to set define leadership so the leaders in the company can all have a unified idea of what they are supposed to do.
  • 14. Developing leaders’ skills  A major problem with leadership is that people are put in leadership positions that they aren’t fully trained for.  To effectively develop their skills HR must:  Understand how capable each potential leader is  Create programs that not only help current leaders develop their skills, but future leaders as well.
  • 15. Creating systems, processes, and policies that support good leadership  This can help set goals, and show to others what good leadership looks like, and support current leadership.  Can use systems such as:  Learning and development  Recruiting  Promotion and appraisal
  • 16. Creating conditions in which the value of leadership is recognized  This means to make sure leadership is supported and recognized by all levels of the company.  The top of the company can be the hardest to convince that this is important, however there are ways to prove to them that leadership within all parts of the company can be successful.
  • 17. HR and organizational leadership  Overall, HR can do a lot when it comes to leadership.  HR can be the leaders within the company  HR can also help create leaders in the company through leadership development.
  • 18. How does HR and leadership development relate to organizational change?  As stated before, leaders in a company can help a company through change.  While HR is a leader for a company working through change, they can also help develop workers skills and make change easier to adapt to.
