This document discusses the role of a school librarian and the many responsibilities they have beyond just checking books in and out. It then summarizes a lesson created by a teacher librarian in collaboration with a classroom teacher. The lesson used a popular children's book and web tools to teach important skills. Students created a comic interpreting the book and used Plickers for interactive learning. The goal was to present new ways of interpreting books and teach civic education through creative activities that engage students.

• When talking about teaching and learning, most people don’t
immediately think of librarians.
• When a lot of people think about our job , they think about
someone who checks books in and out at a desk all day.
• But in a school where the our job is valued, we can teach
important skills.
