Personal Skills Audit Name: Daniel Hutchinson
Skills acquired How did these skills
contribute to the creation of
your product?
How will you develop these
skills during the A2 project?
Digital technology
- What
equipment/software
packages did you use to
produce your
production?
Mac Computer Skills e.g.
Photoshop, Slide Share,
Microsoft word etc.
The mac computer skills I
acquired allowed me to create a
blog using blogger from which
all of my work was posted on
and allowed me to use software
such as Photoshop and
Microsoft word to enhance my
skills on these as well as finding
a use of Slide share to post
word documents on my blog.
I will continue using the mac for
my next project as well as
Photoshop for designs and
Microsoft word with slide share
for research and planning.
Post production
- What software did you
use to create your
production?
- Discuss specific features
of the software.
Final Cut
Video Camera, Tripod.
I used video cameras and a
tripod to aid in capturing movie
footage that is still when
required and I can move easily
creating meaningful shots that
are appropriate for timing.
Final Cut allowed me to edit
and cut out unnecessary
footage captured and aided in
producing the final product.
I will be using everything
mentioned to produce a quality
product possibly using some
new software I have outside of
college like Sony Vegas for
editing.
Research and Planning
- What tasks did you
complete when
preparing to film your
sequence?
- How did your planning
help the smooth
progression of your film?
Research into different types of
movies which I could use for my
own product specifically Horror
movies.
Planning allowed me to be
ready to shoot our shots and
know exactly what I wanted to
do giving myself preparation.
It allowed the overall
construction part of my product
to be done with the correct
amount of time and not drag on
due to not being prepared and
allowing myself to know what I
want to shoot.
Research and Planning will be
done intensely in A2 to ensure I
am prepared for the production
of my next product.
Using conventions of real
media texts
- Which texts did you
analyse?
- Did you take any
inspiration from the
conventions found from
your research?
Jump scares
Eerie music
Dark settings
Scary imagery
Using these conventions from
horror movies allowed me to
find inspiration for making my
own product as good as theirs
and using my editing skills to
produce quality of the same
standard
Conventions can be used as
inspirations and a guideline for
products you make so I am
going to highly consider using
this as a base for my next
product in A2.
Creativity
- Were our ideas for your
portfolio imaginative and unique
or did you adhere to
conventions?
Conventions: Setting, Character
age, music.
Unique ideas: Character
initiative and personality, old
school monster as opposed to
cgi effects.
I did a mix to benefit my product
providing uniqueness as well as
applying conventions for
professionalism allowing the
product to not be a cheap copy
or too unfamiliar for the genre
it’s targeting.
Conventions are important in a
product but I believe
uniqueness is how people find
and grow a liking to new
products released and is why I
will probably use a mix.
