                                 Skills acquired

How did these skills contribute to the creation of your product?

How will you develop these skills during the A2 project?

Digital technology

⁃ What equipment/software packages did you use to produce
      your production?

I learned how to operate a camera and use a dolly track. I also used Cubase to
create a soundtrack for my AS.

My main focus in the group was to edit the sound and create a soundtrack, by
doing this I had to organise certain shots were my track would fit in such as the
opening and ending of my media film. I also had to set the tone for the movie by
creating a quite melancholic track.

This year, I will work on crafting sounds rather than creating a soundtrack. I will
also work on my editing skills, due to them not being a main role in my last media
production.

Post production

⁃ What software did you use to create your production?

⁃ Discuss specific features of the software.
I learned how to use Final cut Express HD, garage band and Cubase to build and
create instruments, edit certain sound effects and to mute certain background
noises in order to make the movie have a crisp sound.

These skills helped me to achieve my major group, which was the sound
engineer. Certain pieces of software such as Final Cut Express HD helped me
craft some unique sounds. I also used software such as Cubase and garage
band to re-master these sounds and make them more suitable for the scenes.

I will develop my editing and sound skills by taking control of the sound duties
and by being the assistant editor.

Research and Planning

⁃ What tasks did you complete when preparing to film your
       sequence?

⁃ How did your planning help the smooth progression of your
       film?

Last year, the research gave me the opportunity to develop my skills and
understanding of the subject. Last year I researched different film openings in
order to get an idea for how I’m going to film and edit the opening of my short
film.

The skills helped contribute to my work greatly. I used most of my research to
develop a character for my role in the movie. To develop this character I watched
plenty of different crime and noir movies.

I will develop these skills in A2 because I’m in a much smaller group this year,
meaning that I’ll be able to get a lot more work done on my own, due to there
only being me and someone else working on the project, meaning that I’ll get
involved with more media techniques.

Using conventions of real media texts
⁃ Which texts did you analyse?

⁃ Did you take any inspiration from the conventions found from
       your research?

In AS Media Studies I had to analyse text from an opening sequence of one
movie. The movie I decided to analyse was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. We took a lot
of inspiration from this movie when creating our title sequence. The sequence we
took from the opening text is the gun shot animation.

These skills helped contribute to my work greatly. I used most of this research in
order to assist my group with creating our opening sequence.

I will develop my Media Text skills in A2 because I'm in a much smaller group
meaning that I'll be able to work on a lot more things such as editing and
production.

Creativity

- were our ideas for your portfolio imaginative and unique or did you adhere to
conventions?

In AS Media Studies I had to be very open minded with my groups Ideas, I also
had to come up with my own creative ideas.

These skills helped contribute to my work greatly. Most my ideas were used in
the final product such as specific camera angles and a small part of the story.

I will further develop my creativity skills in A2 because I'll be taking control of
costumes and props as well as ideas for the main video.
