This document provides guidance on giving effective performance review feedback in 6 points:
1. Be specific and provide concrete examples rather than vague analogies.
2. Focus feedback on helping the employee grow and develop rather than just pointing out shortcomings.
3. Ensure the feedback is on issues the employee can actually address and change.
4. Make sure the feedback will add value from the employee's perspective.
5. Ensure feedback is based on factual observations and documented examples rather than unrelated incidents.
6. Use silence strategically to allow the employee to process the feedback rather than feeling the need to constantly fill the air with words.

Some think working remotely is a terrible setting that takes control away and let's employees stay at home and be useless. Others find that remote work increases overall productivity and lowers the need to micromanage.
And both sides might be correct as remote work, like all other structures, work really well for some and make others crazy.
The only thing that we can say for certain is that telecommuting is increasingly popular and there are problems you need to face to make it work.
Pitching Ideas: How to sell your ideas to othersJeroen van Geel
Learn how to convince others of your UX ideas by understanding them.
We are good in designing usable and engaging products and services. We understand the user's needs and have a toolkit with dozens of deliverables. But for some reason it remains difficult to sell an idea or concept to team members, managers or clients. After this session that problem will be solved!
Selling your ideas and convincing others is one of the most undervalued assets in our field. This ranges from convincing a colleague to use a certain design pattern to selling research to your boss and convincing a client to go for your concept. You can come up with the best ideas in the world, but if it is presented in the wrong way these ideas will die a lonely dead. This is sad, because everybody can learn how to bring a message across. The main thing is that you know what to pay attention to.
In this session I will take you on a journey through the world of presenting ideas. We will move through the heads of clients and your colleagues, learn what their thoughts and needs are. We will move to the core of your idea and into the world of psychology.

The Great State of Design with CSS Grid Layout and FriendsStacy Kvernmo
For far too long we've been forced to reuse layout patterns that have worked in the past, creating a web full of sites that all look the same. Narrow timelines, browser support restrictions and lack of a true grid system have led us to create work that is "good enough".
I've spent years exploring how we can make the web a more unique space. With some of the newer CSS techniques available, we can start to make more creative designs. CSS Grid Layout is on the horizon and will play a major role in the design of our sites. Finally having a true, 2 dimensional grid will give our layouts much more flexibility and it is on us to explore the possibilities.
This talk was presented at CSS Day 2016.

Upon completion of this unit, students should be able to:
2. Discuss effective leadership strategies used by healthcare managers in the health services
setting to include adaptation and transformation, communication strategies, and conflict
resolution.
Reading Assignment
Chapter 3:
Leading Health Care Change, pp. 35-44
Unit Lesson
As you think about effective leadership strategies used by healthcare managers, what strategies come to your
mind? This unit lesson will provide practical strategies and real world examples on four such strategies:
adaptation, transformation, communication, and conflict resolution.
Adaptation
It is common that leaders with longevity in a company, who have weathered changes, to be adaptable. There
is a great saying, “You bend, or you break.” We can go with the flow and adapt, or we can be rigid and crack.
We can adapt to the ever-changing winds of health care, or we can kick the bricks.
The ability to adapt is really marked by the maturity to accept what we cannot change. Such maturity creates
solace (while being vehemently inflexible tends to create discontent and disharmony). There are times when
you need to stand up for what is right, and when that happens it is important to choose your approach wisely.
Sometimes saying nothing at all is the best course. Benjamin Franklin, a master of diplomacy (and one who
arguably helped us win the Revolutionary War by diplomatically gaining the involvement of the French) said,
“Best is the tongue that feels the rein; he that talks much, must talk in vain” (Morgan, 2007, p. 25).
Being adaptable is the wisdom to hold our tongues and thoughts on that which we cannot control, but it is also
the ability to be sagacious (to have a keen mental discernment) in reading a person or situation, then
changing our approach as needed. Some situations may call for your soft response and some may require a
more firm response.
This concept of tailoring and being flexible with your leadership style is captured well in the book Situational
Leadership and the One-Minute Manager by Blanchard, Zigarmi, and Zigarmi (1985). Blanchard is credited
with coining the term "situational l.

Communication Hacks: Strategies for fostering collaboration and dealing with conflict in open source
Presented by Nuritzi Sanchez, GitLab, Inc.
Presented at Open Source 101 2021
Abstract: During this talk, you'll learn about topics like cross-cultural collaboration, giving and receiving feedback, and active listening -- all things that are vital to the health of our open source communities.
After reading many self-help books, watching various TED Talks, and listening to a ton of podcasts, I've condensed my learnings to help you improve your communications skills, deal with conflict, and collaborate better than ever, not only in FOSS, but also everywhere else.
Why Making Mistakes is Important in Life
1. Mistakes are an unavoidable part of life and are vital to a person's growth.
2. Everyone makes mistakes.
3. Mistakes make up most part of our lives. And it is because of the mistakes one learns. A child makes mistakes a thousand times and falls as many times before her first step.
Reasons why making mistakes is okay
1. Mistakes give you valuable life lessons.
2. They say mistakes are life's way of teaching you. Behind each mistake is an important lesson to be learned.
3. You are only human, and humans are not made to be perfect. It is what makes each of us unique.
4. Mistakes help you grow. The first time that you will smell success is after the last time you learnt from your earlier mistake. Mistakes they say is a steppingstone to success.
5. Mistakes push you to do better, be better. They help you become a better version of yourself.
6. Mistakes help you know yourself more. It allows you to figure out who you are as a person.
7. Mistakes do not define you. In fact, errors do not stand for anybody.
8. You will never find anyone who has never made a mistake in their life. If someone said they did, that not telling the truth.
9. When you make a mistake, you know one more way in which it should not be done
How to recover from a mistake
1. Accept it - Accepting that you have made a mistake is the first step towards correcting it. What you do not accept, you cannot correct. Accept that mistake. Learn from it.
2. Know what you did wrong. Understanding your mistake helps you make amends and rectify the situation.
3. Remember the lesson
4. Mistakes are normal. Fret not! Everybody makes mistakes.
5. Accepting the mistake is the first step towards correcting them in the future.
6. Do not be afraid of making mistakes. It should not prevent you from taking risks or doing anything worthwhile.
"Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow." – Mary Tylor Moore
Time Management has become more crucial than ever before. With Work from Home options, employees and managers alike are more stressed and more time strapped than ever before. How can you master this - here are the Time management hacks.

Be Open Minded
Listen to all content; suspend judgment about its value
Treat Feedback as Opportunity
This is your opportunity to understand your reviewer’s thinking process. Interrupt and you miss that opportunity to improve.
Clothe With Receptiveness
Adopt an attitude of 100% receptiveness, don’t ever begin to defend or justify your action.
Ask for Clarification. Always
Clarifications are to improve your understanding precisely, not to defend or negate the feedback.
Do not Debate
Whether or how you actually use the feedback is for you to decide later
Finally, Let Silence do the Heavy Lifting
Five signs that indicate silence is needed
Interrupting by talking over some one else
Formulating your response while some one is talking
Using a break in the conversation to create a distraction to change topics
Talking in circles
Monopolizing airtime

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.
Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to radically reinvent the way we do business. This study explores how CEOs and top decision makers around the world are responding to the transformative potential of AI.

5. 1 Be SpecificAm I being specific?
It is extremely critical to be as specific
as you can be. It is easy to get carried
away with analogies and incidents
related to the point being discussed.
Such meandering, however well-
intentioned it may be, often leads to
dilution of the message. It may even
lead to a defensive mindset being
triggered for the receiver. State facts
and give examples in support of the
feedback being given. Nothing more,
nothing less.
6. 2 MeaningfulAm I showing the way to grow and
develop this person?Your job as a
reviewer is to develop and grow
people. Pointing to shortcomings
does not help in any case. In fact,
it would work counter-productive
as the receiver pulls up the
defences and closes their mind to
any suggestions.
7. 3 Relevant
Can this person really do something
about this?
Think before if this person can do
something about this or if you can
help to change this behaviour? If the
answer is no, that specific feedback is
best left unsaid. Yes, think about it.
What is the purpose of feedback on
which the person cannot act?
8. 4 Value
Will this add value to this person?
Focus your feedback on its value for
the receiver. If your feedback will not
add value to the receiver in the
current state, resist from even saying it.
Often, it is for us to offer some advice
because it is dear to us and (however
well-intentioned) do not think of the
value it would add to the other person.
9. 5 Factual
Does this represent facts?
Write feedback promptly when the incident
is fresh in your mind. Do not let other
unrelated incidents influence your feedback.
Good managers maintain a small notepad,
to jot down incidents when they occur. This
small notepad is worth terabytes of data
that may be residing in our memory.
Maintaining and referring that small
notepad, will always bring us back to the
facts at hand.
10. 6 Silence. Finally, let silence do the heavy lifting.
Silence is an extremely powerful tool. Any
good negotiator would tell you that people
tend to underestimate the power of silence
when it comes to sales and social dynamics
in general. “Saying nothing is way more
powerful than spoken words” they would
vouch. Silence during feedback not only
defines alpha roles but also build the
readiness to assimilate, process and draw
on an action plan in the receiver’s mind.
11. Recognise5

13. Look to
the future.
Keep future in mind. Focus
on future behavior. This is not
an opportunity to criticise
the past.
14. There is enough research on
the brain and attention span
that most effective feedback
are short and to-the-point.
Short and
effective
15. The 3x3
MethodIf we cannot share something as three
points in three minutes, you are not not
helping them understand.
Break every topic above into three key
points that are most critical for .
16. “Criticism, like rain, should
be gentle enough to nourish
a man’s growth without
destroying his roots.”
– Frank A. Clark
