Cultural and creative industries are important for local economies as they provide highly skilled jobs, attract talented professionals, and create products and services for local and outside consumers using knowledge and technology. While Brighton has focused more on these industries, Manresa is on a similar path. A staff exchange between the two cities allowed them to share experiences and practices to boost local cultural initiatives. Key lessons included that culture adds value to tourism, strong infrastructure is essential for creative industries, partnerships between enterprises and society are important, and both creativity and management skills foster cultural entrepreneurship and economic impact.

What can we tell about actors and academics from the way they use museum artefacts? This talk describes a project - Digital CoPs and Robbers - that included individuals from these two communities of practice and examined how they interact with artefacts in physical and digital form. It suggests that the ways in which actors and academics use the artefact reveals different ways of seeing it.

The document provides tips for drawing human bodies, including proportions, head, arms, hands, torso, legs, and feet. It notes that proportions are key, with hands keeping position and bodies counted in heads. Body parts must be balanced, even when dancing. The head details include ears lining up with eyebrows and the nose being the size of the eyes. When drawing arms, the elbow takes the shape of a diamond. Hands can be referenced by looking at one's own. Torso drawings differ for males and females. Legs have curves, with the middle bottom slightly shorter than the top. Feet can be drawn as a circle and triangle. Exceptions are made for cartoons and anime styles.

This document is Ramon Munoz Sanz's portfolio, which summarizes his experience and skills as an architect, project manager, urban planner, interior designer, and 3D modeler. It includes academic projects from his university studies as well as professional projects in architecture, design, and project management. His professional experience includes mixed-use, residential, institutional, industrial, educational, commercial, and cultural projects in Spain and Singapore with budgets ranging from $2-700 million.
Τhe economic crisis in Greece in recent years, combined with the weakness or non-selection for a form of a national strategy that is consistent with international developments, has negatively affected the Athens role in the international trend, that is followed by most cities abroad. But the emerging initiatives like the Re-launching Athens project, the Re- think project, the Niarchos project, the awarded start ups, the volunteerism, the creativity of the cultural sector are elements and actions which reveal that Athens is following global trends and starts to form a role .
We have action with participative collaboration and we have values and we have also cultural venues to enjoy.
That is now our story and we ought to promote it.
But is this the competitive advantage of Athens?
The advantage of the city is that it forms gradually a cluster of culture, of creative start ups and of volunteering participation.
In order our story to be unfolded—and that will not happen in a glance– we need our people to believe in it, because they are our ambassadors. According to Charles Landry, “creativity is the backbone of the city, and the critical resource is their people. It is the intelligence, the vitality, the imagination and most of all the creativity of people that feed the history. Indeed, the intensity of this creative power and its exploitation, is the key that will determine the progress and manage the sustainability of each city”.
Referring to our people, the Athenians of the center and of the periphery we provoke them to explore the possibilities of Athens. Exploring this possibilities, we believe that they will create a new perception about their city and gradually they will be much more involved to the project, not only through volunteering actions but participate with the completion of them, either working, either promoting the identity or proposing further actions.
Referring to the global community, we invite them to explore the possibilities of Athens, to observe the changes, to understand that the city is open to opportunities for creation, for investments, for delight. Rome, Istanbul, Berlin and Barcelona are great places but Athens is something more.
Anything could happen in this city.

1. Territorial development requires a long-term comprehensive territorial project spanning 5-15 years, not just short-term projects. This project must come from the territory itself.
2. Effective territorial management must address both day-to-day management and long-term strategic planning to transform the territory, despite changes in local government. It must also secure commitment from stakeholders.
3. A long-term territorial vision is needed that is unique, shared, and agreed upon for the territory. This vision can be developed through a collaborative process involving stakeholders starting with a blank slate, leveraging local intelligence, and using participatory methodology.

The city of Sabadell in Catalonia is working to benefit from the European Union's RIS3 policy. It has developed a smart specialization strategy focused on innovation and design for European industry. The strategy aims to make Sabadell a reference area in industrial design in Southern Europe, attract foreign private industrial investments, and attract more public investments currently oriented towards Barcelona. By developing this strategy in collaboration with surrounding municipalities and aligning with Catalonia's RIS3 approach, Sabadell hopes to create a true shared territorial development plan and grow as a hub for industrial design.
3. Manresa needs to organize itself
Multi-layered crisis:
-loss of jobs in construction and manufacturing
-slow strategic re-orientation in SMEs
-low levels of trust, high fragmentation
-credit crunch-capital is scarce
• Current economic strategies are outdated
• Policies and actions are ad hoc
• PC as symbol for identity crisis and lack of direction
Successful economic development requires strategic co-
operation and action plans
4. Strategic level:
Leaders of City, CTM, Universities, Business
Facilitating level
Working groups
1) University-industry co-operation
2) City marketing, branding, identity Parc Central
3) Promoting entrepreneurship
4) Retraining redundant workers
5) Targeted SME support for innovation
Etc.
Each group will have an elected leader, a secretary,
and creates an action plan
Alignment with and input for strategies of Catalonia
Projects and actions
5. Parc Central - Commercial Strategy, Facilities, innovation networking
Process and Partnerships
GOOD: Strong support of stakeholders in general … BUT:
•Problem: doubt in concrete cooperation between different building owners
•Problem: All stakeholders/agents go alone
•Problem: No common benefit of all stakeholders together
Recommendation
Give Parc Central of Manresa a specialized profile in one (or more but only a
few) disciplines!
Involve UPC by giving them the strongest role in defining the extraordinary
profile of PC. Give them an extra benefit to be involved in the PC by
developing this extraordinary profile and to give the Manresa part of UPC a
stronger role in whole Catalonia.
6. Concrete suggestions / next steps
Organize an future workshop and develop a shared future vision of UPC and City
Council. Agree with UPC on a special profil of Parc Central and a unique
facility/laboratory for this profile, which is unique in Spain/Europe.
Combine public investments for CTM building with this unique facility/laboratory.
Give a special local funding for UPCs most interesting discipline to place it in
Manresa. Give local funded space inside Parc Central to UPC. Attract not only
UPC administration but especially unique specialists and professors.
Attract 2-3 wordbest leaders (personally) of the choosen profile to settle down in
Manresa. Offer them best conditions (money, landowning, network)
Promote entrepreneurship with funding for students of both universities. Create a
special outsourcing program for companies and experienced employeers in
Manresa and Spain to „come home“ and start the own business in Parc Central.
7. Identity of the Parc Central
Problem: Doubt to have enough critical mass (knowledge workers) for the parc
Problem: international relations quite poor
Problem: too close to Barcelona (talents go to BCN and rest of world)
What is competitive advantage compared to 20 other parcs?
Why to go with my company to Manresa PC?
Recommendation
Establish Manresa as “Best Side of Barcelona/Catalonia”. Economic crisis gives chance
to offer lowest fees in order to approach people, students, professors, employees from all
over spanish speaking world.
Establish Manresa Parc Central as entering gate to Europe for Spanish speaking
companies in world. Attract international, spanish speaking companies and students by
establishing the one European parc with the best price/value – proposition! (low prices for
living, but great environment, great labs and a lot of sun!)
8. Concrete suggestions / next steps
Bring all stakeholders together in a new organization. Every stakeholder should
bring in own money for common strategic and marketing projects.
Establish a “Best side of Barcelona” marketing strategy, which promotes cheap
prices and good value nearby Barcelona to foreigners.
Make an international marketing campaign for spanish speaking companies and
students. Take chance to use international contacts of IASP, UPC, Microsoft and
other companies…)
Make Manresa inhabitants proud of its knowledge property and culture! Organize
science festivals, OpenDoors-Nights and cooperations with local newspapers to
report about Manresa Science.
Develop a brand of “technological parc” among all the science parks. This parc is not
only about research but production as well.
9. Urban planning observations
Identity and connectivity issues are most important
• Geographic centre of Catalunya
• People do not trust in the values of the city and the area
• What does Manresa stand for (industrial, commercial, nature?)
• Manresa underestimates itself
• Montserrat is the background picture of a city with high potential
• Good products, but lack of good market
• River front, green areas etc.
• Plans for PC are exchangeable, could be anywhere
• People do not know much about the project
10. Observations
• Connectivity is not structured, the crucial problem, lacks on every scale
• Distances for pedestrians, bicyclists to far (especially to and fro the centre)
• Public transport is poor
• Surrounding streets are a barrier
• In PC not enough critical mass for different functions
• The greater Manresa area provides enough potential for better public transport
• A designed process is not visible
• Who is leading?
