This document discusses emerging trends toward convergence in communications markets and focuses on how SIP profiles can benefit from convergence. It recommends the following action plan for service providers to successfully adopt a convergence model: (1) Start working now with Alcatel-Lucent on defining SIP profiles and services to support convergence; (2) Begin product development and trials of convergence services now to be ready for commercial launch in 2008; (3) Leverage existing prototype applications and services to trial convergence concepts with major operators. The goal is to get started immediately to be prepared for long-term success in converged markets.
Head to Head - The Battle between the Bellheads and the Netheads for control ...Pieter Geldenhuys
Part 1: When the infrastructure is ubiquitous and operates as a utility, like water or electricity, we will move beyond the current paradigm of cyberspace. What happens when information and knowledge are accessible to all who choose to look? What happens when eBusiness, eHealth and eLiteracy have become an invisible normality? What happens after the Ubiquitous Internet has irreparably changed our very understanding of the world we live in? A new Digital Value Chain will be required when the Netheads and Bellheads pit their business models against each other in an epic battle where the only winner is bound to be the consumer. Who will find the right balance between the investments required to support the infrastructure and the money that inevitably will flow to edge of the network where the intelligence and power resides?

P2P - Real Time Communications in the EnterpriseMead Eblan
"Mainstreaming Peer-to-Peer Connectivity:
Real-Time Communications in the Enterprise"
- Presented at Digital Government Institute Conference on IPv6
- September 2007
This presentation was shown at LTE World summit 2010 in Amsterdam illustrating Continuous Computing's LTE (Long Term Evolution) technologies and expertise. The presentation covers:
•Supporting early development of nontraditional products for use on LTE networks
•Building a broad ecosystem of devices in parallel with LTE deployment what should the role of the operator be?
•Removing business and technical barriers and defining new models to accelerate mass adoption of new services and devices
Wi-Fi is rapidly becoming the mainstream method of connection to the Internet also for tablets and smartphones. The main reason for this being that 4G networks and their promised cheap and powerful data connectivity services are not here yet, whilst the existing and expensive 3G networks are increasingly unable to cope with a pent-up demand. For operators and enterprises, rapidly deploying new Wi-Fi public hot spots and access points, as well efficiently managing them with the lowest possible TCO, is thus getting high in their priority list.
In this presentation we will introduce Wi-Fi Cloud, a turnkey, end-to-end cloud solution, specifically tailored for Wi-Fi projects and capable of addressing various application/usage scenarios and market segments leveraging next-generation wireless technologies and products. The solution has been already adopted by a major Italian ISP and the presentation will provide an overview on the architecture, business model and processes as well as share some the lessons learned.
Sundeep Gupta (Director, Orative Corp) takes us through his perspectives on Enterprise mobility and the mobile value-chain on his series on "Hot areas to startup"
The “Residential Gateway” concept did not get a warm welcome at IBM until the name was changed to “Inter|section Gateway” (or Service Gateway) and messaging was changed to stress the vision of an IBM-scale, multi-billion dollar business.
These slides (circa 1997) are from my early work on gateways at IBM and have provide considerable insight into the Connected Home of today.
