A Novel Approach for Edge Detection using Modified ACIES Filteringidescitation
The most important humiliating attribute of an image is noise, which may
become obvious during image capturing, communication or processing and may conceivably
be reliant on or sovereign of image. In order to supplement the high- frequency components
in this paper we are proposing a new class of filter called ACIES filter which implies spatial
filter shape that has a high positive component at the centre. Since restraint of noise can
only be achieved by smoothing the image. Sharpening with ACIES filter highlights the fine
details of an image and enhances the clarity of the image at the boundaries. Experimental
results show that the concert of the proposed ACIES filter is acceptable and Quality of the
consequent images is remarkably well even under the strongly noise-corrupted conditions.
If the edges in an image can be recognized specifically, then all the objects in the image can
be located and basic properties such as region, edge, and contour can be measured. The
performance of the proposed approach is measured with image quality metrics such as
PSNR, MSE, NAE and NK.
Analysis of PEAQ Model using Wavelet Decomposition Techniquesidescitation
Digital broadcasting, internet audio and music database make use of audio
compression and coding techniques to reduce high quality audio signal without impairing its
perceptual quality. Audio signal compression is the lossy compression
technique, It
converts original converting audio signal into compressed bitstream. The compressed audio
bitstream is decoded at the decoder to produce a close approximation of the original signal.
For the purpose of improving the coding this work attempts to verify the perceptual
evaluation of audio quality (PEAQ) model in BS.1387 using wavelet decomposition
techniques. Finally the comparison of masking threshold for sub-bands using Wavelet
techniques and Fast Fourier transform (FFT) will be done

Important for vitreoretinal surgery is the non-contact wide angle ophthalmoscope EIBOS 2 with incorporated focusing. The integrated inverter body is extremely slim which allows the surgeon, at low magnification, to simultaneously visualize the fundus and the incision area, upright in the same orientation. At medium or high magnification, the surgeon has the impression of ‘being’ in the eye instead of just looking at the fundus. Optimal vision in EIBOS 2 is achieved with a choice of ophthalmoscopic lenses.

Olfactory Mucosa:
Olfactory Cells: Bipolar nerve cells derived from the CNS (100 million), with 4-25 olfactory cilia per cell.
Sustentacular Cells: Produce mucus and maintain ionic and molecular environment.
Basal Cells: Replace worn-out olfactory cells with an average lifespan of 1-2 months.
Bowman’s Gland: Secretes mucus.
Stimulation of Olfactory Cells:
Odorant dissolves in mucus and attaches to receptors on olfactory cilia.
Involves a cascade effect through G-proteins and second messengers, leading to depolarization and action potential generation in the olfactory nerve.
Quality of a Good Odorant:
Small (3-20 Carbon atoms), volatile, water-soluble, and lipid-soluble.
Facilitated by odorant-binding proteins in mucus.

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!

I-06 SER 719
44. Prevention of Damage
Critical Areas of an Endoscope
Critical parts of a scope are the optical systems, which have to withstand heavy mechanical stress
depending on application:
Examples:
Critical Area 1: Distal end of the endoscope
In this area defects can occur by shaver use and HF powered systems if these
are in contact with the endoscope. This is often the case in orthopedic and
gynecological applications.
Critical Area 2: Endoscope sheath
Sometimes heavy damages occur at the endoscope sheath if the scope is
wrongly inserted in a working channel. The longer the working length of the
endoscope is, the higher the risk is for such damage.
Damage often occurs when the scope is inserted into the sheath. If the inser-
tion is not done axially but radially to the optic sheath, care should be taken
during this procedure.
Critical Area 3: Changeover sheath/Main body
It is in most cases a consequence of the above-mentioned problem
(compare critical area 2). Additionally compressions of the sheath to the main
body occur what is often to attribute to improper use during
decontamination.
SER 720 I-06
45. Assembly of Light Guide Cable
Light Guide Cables
Schölly light guide cables are not glued at the light source end but compressed and optically treated.
They are able to withstand breakdown voltages of 5 kV and temperatures up to 300°C.
Optical fibers Silicone tube Steel thread Nylon protection
Bending radius
Chain reactions may occur - especially if the light entrance area is damaged.
Example: The capillary space between the fibers of the most used endoscopes are polished, ground
and filled in with the appropriate medical adhesive.
Cleaning with common cleaning procedures
==> Washouts in the spaces between the fibers
==> Extension of the surface at the point of incidence
==> Disproportionate heating at the input through the extended surface
==> Burns at the distal end with significant loss of transmission and change of colour
==> Gas evolution of adhesive residues

47. Technology Sterilization
Sterilization - Our Main Competence
All Schölly endoscopes with AUTOCLAVE mark are according to WHO-recom-
mendation suitable for steam sterilization - 18 min. at 134 °C/273 °F.
Since the outbreak of the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, many scientists have been busy to find out how
to avoid the risk of transmission of the Spongiform Encephalopathy (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, or BSE)
during invasive operations particularly in the field of neurosurgery, spinal surgery or in case of oph-
thalmological surgical operations. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has now published a report
with recommendations regarding the handling of surgical instruments and endoscopes in view of ste-
rility (WHO/CDS/CSR/APH/2000.3 http://www.who.int/csr/en).
According to this report, it is advisable to use disposable material. If not possible or too costly, the
autoclaving and chemical sterilization are considered to be most effective methods in order to main-
tain the heat resistance and reusability of endoscopes. In this context, the mandatory holding time
with a defined maximum temperature (18-20 minutes with 134 °C) is a new and technically very com-
plex requirement for rigid endoscopes. Schölly Fiberoptic GmbH, having its core competence exactly
in this field, offers now all autoclavable rigid endoscopes with validation concerning this new requi-
rement of 18-20 minutes with a temperature of 134 °C.
As an additional innovation Schölly offers as one of few suppliers autoclavable, flexible endoscopes
with a minimal diameter of 0.35 mm up. These endoscopes have an optical system with 3.000 -
50.000 pixels and additional illumination fibers for illumination. These have been specified according
the requirements of the WHO.
Reconditioning Compatibility of Schölly - Endoscopes
New sterilization methods require a constructive consideration in scope manufacturing.
In times of increased infections new sterilization methods have been developed to assure a safe and
fast sterilization process. Those sterilization methods which do not have the major disadvantages of
gas sterilization (residues, environmental compatibility), are finding more and more acceptance in
hospitals.
The adavantages are evident:
• Short cycle times (usually < 75 minutes)
• No cooling cycles
• No toxic residues, therefore no burden for the persons in charge
• Remaining humidity < 5 %, not corrosive
• Virucide, sporicide, tuberculocide, bacteriozide, fungizide
• Suitable for thermolabile materials, as temperature is < 56 °C
• Process controlled
Schölly endoscopes have shown their material compatibility for these application methods by passing
several tests.
The effects of the sterilizing process have to be documented by the user.
TEC 800 I-06
48. Technologie Sterilization
STERIS® from Steris Corporation
STERIS® is a „cold“ liquid sterilization. Acetic peroxide is mixed with sterile water, the instruments to
be sterilized are washed with solvents. After twelve minutes of dipping the instrument in the sterili-
zing solution, the solution is pumped out and the instrument is rinsed with sterile water four times.
The working channel of rigid/flexible endoscopes can be attached to a pressurized fitting for sterili-
zation.
Precise information on www.steris.com
STERRAD® from Johnson & Johnson
STERRAD® is a low temperature-plasma sterilization. The hydrogen peroxide dioxide is transported
from the magnetic field to the plasma phase.
One cycle consists of following phases
• Phase of vacuum: evacuate up to a pressure of 0.3 mbar.
• Phase of injection: 2 ml liquid H2O2 are injected into the vacuum.
• Phase of diffusion: app. 50 minutes are necessary for the homogeneous distribution of hydrogen
peroxide in the chamber, the pressure increases to 7 - 11 mbar.
• Phase of plasma (app. 20 Min.) : Production of primary plasma; secondary plasma follows;
actual phase of sterilization; end products are water (H2O) and oxygen (O2).
• Phase of pressure compensation: Adjustment of atmospheric pressure in the chamber.
The methods of STERRAD® and STERIS® help to avoid high temperatures on optical systems. This
results in a very gentle sterilization method. Nevertheless, the use of peracedic acid as well as hydro-
gen peroxide may cause a more intensive wear of the endoscope surfaces (washout, bleeching
effects). However, these effects do not have any influence on the lifetime of the endoscopes. It is main-
ly a „cosmetical“ effect. These effects have such a minor influence on the lifetime of the endoscopes
compared to the effects of high temperature methods.
The effecs of the sterilizing process have to be documented by the user.
All Schölly endoscopes are material compatible regarding following process:
• Soaking in disinfectant which is approved for instrument disinfection
• Gas sterilization: formaldehyde, ethylene oxide
• STERRAD® und STERIS® methods
• Autoclavation 18 - 20 minutes at 134 °C according to WHO-recommendation, see label
