Simulating Service-Oriented Systems: A Survey
And the Services-Aware Simulation
Framework
ABSTRACT:
The service-oriented architecture style supports desirable qualities,
including distributed, loosely coupled systems spanning organizational
boundaries. Such systems and their configurations are challenging to
understand reason about, and test. Improved understanding of these
systems will support activities such as autonomic runtime configuration,
application deployment, and development/testing. Simulation is one way to
understand and test service systems. This paper describes a literature
survey of simulation frameworks for service-oriented systems, examining
simulation software, systems, approaches, and frameworks used to
simulate service-oriented systems. We identify a set of dimensions for
describing the various approaches, considering their modelling
methodology, their functionalities, their underlying infrastructure, and
their evaluation. We then introduce the services-aware simulation
framework (SASF), a simulation framework for predicting the behaviour
of service-oriented systems under different configurations and loads, and
discuss the unique features that distinguish it from other systems in the
literature. We demonstrate its use in simulating two service-oriented
systems.

This project presents a framework for runtime service discovery that supports both proactive and reactive modes. In pull mode, queries are executed when a replacement service is needed. In push mode, queries are subscribed to and executed proactively in parallel with the application to identify potential replacement services. The framework allows complex queries over service descriptions to find structurally, behaviorally, and contextually matching services. It aims to address limitations of prior approaches and maintain up-to-date candidate replacement services for use if needed.

SASSY is a framework that allows software systems to self-architect and adapt to changes in their computing environment or requirements. It uses models called Service Activity Schemas (SAS) to specify system requirements and generate an initial architecture. SASSY then monitors quality of service metrics and dynamically changes the architecture by applying patterns if the overall utility falls, in order to maintain the best QoS. It transforms SAS models into executable architectures and facilitates simulation and testing through model transformations and existing tools.

The increase in the significance of service orientation in system development is accelerating with an increase in demand for qualitative and cost-effective systems. Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is one of the established structural designs used for developing and implementing flexible, reusable, rapid and low-cost service-oriented systems. The established testing and evaluation methods don’t work well for systems that are made-up of services (service-oriented system). As a result, several testing and evaluation metrics for service-oriented systems were proposed. However, these metrics were created based on preceding software development approaches that offer insufficient focus to service-oriented systems thereby lacking the efficiency to evaluate these systems. Furthermore, Lack of access to source code also frustrates classical mutation-testing approaches, which require seeding the code with errors. This paper discusses different testing and evaluation metrics available for SOS and proposed a theory-grounded framework for testing and evaluation of service-oriented systems with the aim of decreasing cost and increasing the quality of the SOS. Then, the proposed framework is validated theoretically to check its usability and applicability for testing and evaluation of SOS. The results show that the proposed framework is able to decrease cost and increasing the quality of the SOS.

This document proposes a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Testing Perspective Model (STPM) for regression testing of SOA-based applications. It divides the SOA testing perspective into three parts: the service developer perspective, service tester perspective, and service provider perspective. The document also defines a regression testing process that uses use case diagrams and activity diagrams to identify atomic and composite services, generate test cases based on business processes and workflows, and build a regression test suite to test services before and after evolution.

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) supports loose-coupling and interoperability, where services communicate with each-other through message exchanging protocol and interfaces. SOA supports vendor diversity. In order to full-fill the vendor need, service composition is considered as a key process. Regression testing is inevitable to assure the quality of SOA based applications during their evolution. This paper defines a regression testing process which helps us in regression testing of complex SOA based applications. We also propose an SOA testing perspective model. Here we divide SOA testing perspective model into three parts: Service developer perspective, Service tester perspective and Service provider perspective. The Proposed model also focuses on service validity when the service is going to register in the Universal Description and Discovery Integration (UDDI).

One of the main requirements in service based applications is runtime adaptation to changes that occur in business, user, environment, and computational contexts. Changes in contexts lead to QOS degrade. Continues adaptation mechanism and strategies are required to stay service based applications(SBA) in safe state. In this paper a framework for runtime adaptation in service based application isintroduced. It checks user requirements change continuously and dynamically adopts architecture model. Also it checks providers QOS attributes continuously and if adaptation requirement is triggered, runs service selection adaptation strategy to satisfy user preferences. Thusit is a context aware and automatically adaptable framework for SBA applications. Wehave implemented a fuzzy based system for web service selection unit. Due to ambiguity of context’s data and cross-cutting effects of quality of services, using fuzzy would result an optimised decision. Finally we illustrated that using of it has a good performance for web service based applications.

This document proposes a composite design pattern for feature-oriented service injection and composition of web services in distributed computing systems with service-oriented architecture (SOA). The pattern combines the visitor and case-based reasoning patterns. It allows new services to be included as feature modules at runtime. When a complex service is requested, the case-based reasoning pattern selects the best matching web service description language (WSDL) based on input parameters. If a single server cannot fulfill the request, the visitor pattern is used to invoke services on other servers to compose the response. The pattern provides capabilities for web service composition, invocation and flexible inclusion of new services.

SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) filled the gap between software and commercial enterprise. SOA integrates multiple web services. We bear to secure the caliber of web services that gives guarantee about what network services work and their output results. There is close to work has to be performed for an automatic test case generation for SOA based services. But, full coverage of XML elements is missing. To the best of our knowledge this all works do not attempt to cover all possible elements of the XML schema presents in the WSDL file. There is also a need to apply different assertions on each service operation for generating the test cases. To overcome this problem we proposed a novel testing model for SOA based application. This new testing model helps us to get the automatic test cases of SOA based application. We build up our new test model with the aid of our proposed test case generation algorithm and test case selection algorithm. In the end, we generate the test suite execution results and find the coverage of XML schema elements present in the WSDL file.
