The document presents a modified version of the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) algorithm, called modified-SIFT, which significantly reduces the number of feature descriptors by employing an 8-row pixel approach. This two-stage process first uses modified-SIFT to shortlist images before applying conventional SIFT on this reduced set, leading to a considerable decrease in search time while still maintaining reasonable accuracy. The modified-SIFT demonstrates promise in matching images, including those that are disguised, and is notably faster than traditional methods, achieving performance almost 30 times quicker than standard SIFT.
