The Importance of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United...
The importance of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution is such that some
have called it the amendment that completed the Constitution. When it was ratified on July 9th,
1868, the amendment became one of legislative cornerstones of the Reconstruction Era, a time in
which the Radical Republicans, led by John A. Bingham and Thaddeus Stevens, promulgated a
legislative program focused on providing racial equality before the law. Among the laws passed in
the Reconstruction Era, the Fourteenth Amendment was one of the most controversial, with one
Republican congressman, Representative A.J. Rogers of New Jersey saying that it was, ...but
another attempt to...consolidate in the Federal Government, by the action of Congress,... Show more

The conquering North was hoping to, as was said by Abraham Lincoln in his Second Inaugural
Address, bind up the nation s wounds, and obtain, a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all
nations. However, the South, while it had been forced to discontinue slavery, was not prepared to
accept Blacks as equal citizens, either politically or socially. In late 1865, Southern states began
creating the set of laws that became known as the Black Codes, severely restricting the rights of
the newly freed African Americans living in the South. The degree to which the Black Codes
limited freedom of African Americans would eventually become one of the major motivations for
the passage of first the Civil Rights Act of 1866, and finally, in 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment.
By March of 1866, eight states of the former Confederacy had adopted various laws limiting the
freedoms of African Americans. In the Slaughterhouse Cases (1873), some of the first Supreme
Court cases to deal with the Fourteenth Amendment, the opinion of Justice Samuel F. Miller
provided a listing of the rights that had been abridged under the Black Codes: [African Americans]
were in some states forbidden to appear in the towns in any other character than menial servants.
They were required to reside on and cultivate the soil without the right to purchase or own it. They
were excluded from many occupations...and

Effects Of Drugs On Prenatal Development
There are several hazards and risk with prenatal development. I believe that Drugs has a huge
impact on prenatal development. Prenatal substance abuse continues to be a significate problem in
the country and possess import health risk for the developing fetus. Abusing narcotics during
pregnancy increases your risk of miscarriage or still birth, preterm labor, placenta abruption, fetal
death and even maternal death. It can also cause impaired fetal growth and lead to a host of health
problems.
Different substances might do have different effects on the fetus and carry varied risk, but virtually
all commonly used recreational drugs cross the placenta, where they are exposed to a developing
fetus. Drugs may harm a developing fetus via multiple

South Africa Memo
The purpose of this memo is to help the team get a better idea of what this trip to South Africa is
for. Also to inform the team of things we all need to know while we are in South Africa.
Summary
We will be partnering up with a business on South Africa. We will be working closely with their
team. We will be working out of an office in Downtown Cape Town. While we are on this trip we
have to keep in mind the proper business etiquette in South Africa. We have to be respectful and
understanding of business in South Africa. Although it similar to the United States yet it is different
in some ways. We have to look at different things we may encounter while we are there such as
language barriers, meetings, proper attire and different business aspects. ... Show more content on

We will all be meeting up prior to our flight. We will all be on the same flight to South Africa.
Everyone needs to ensure they have their passports and work visa. Without these items you would
not be able to attend the trip.
Arrival
Upon arrival on Saturday we will be heading to a hotel that is located downtown Cape Town. The
hotel is relatively close to the office we will be working out of. It will be an easy commute back
and forth to the office on foot. The office is a 4 5 minute walk from the hotel. Saturday and
Sunday will be rest days and for everyone to be prepared for Mondays meeting.
Proper dress etiquette
We are to all wear business attire while we are working. The first meeting should consist of men
wearing a dark conservative suit. Women should wear a dark conservative suit or a modest dress.
They tend to look more presentation verses material things so we should all be ironing our clothing
and polishing out shoes. We need to get off to great start and show our new partners we are serious
about conducting business with them.
Weather
The weather in South Africa is not always warm or hot. We need to dress according. The weather
will get as low as 55 degrees while we are here. So everyone needs to pack and dress accordingly.

John Milton s Paradise Lost
John Milton s famous poem Paradise Lost has influenced society throughout the ages on a number
of topics ranging from the fall of Satan to the marriage roles that Adam and Eve teach us. One idea
stands alone though more so than that of any other topic that Milton writes about and that is the
idea of a Satanic Trinity. The Satanic Trinity shows how the evil of Hell spread to Earth and how it
tempts us in our everyday life. Milton writes about the Satanic Trinity because he believes that one
must understand the evil that comes out of the Satanic Trinity before one can fully appreciate and
embrace the good that comes out of the Holy Trinity. John Miltonis considered one of the greatest
English poets of all time. Milton s career as a writer of prose and poetry spans three distinct eras:
Stuart England; the Civil War (1642 1648) and Interregnum, including the Commonwealth (1649
1653) and Protectorate (1654 1660); and the Restoration (Albert C. Labriola par .1). Milton was
born at 6:30 in the morning on 9 December 1608. His parents were John Milton, Sr., and Sara
Jeffrey Milton, and the place of birth was the family home, marked with the sign of the spread
eagle, on Bread Street, London (Labriola par .6). Milton was one three children the other children
of John and Sara who survived infancy included Anne, their oldest child, and Christopher, seven
years younger than John. At least three others died shortly after birth, in infancy or in early
childhood (Labriola par .6).

The Pattern of Residential Lot Size Zoning in Guangzhou,...
Introduction
Residential areas refer to spaces of land generally considered for housing activities, rather than for
commercial and industrial purposes. On the other hand, zoning is the process by which the local
government determines the uses of land for different purposes by designating each activity to a
given piece of land using a map of zones, which include residential, industrial, commercial and
forest activities among others. Residential zoning, therefore, is the process by which the
government control or oversee the constructions that are strictly for residential purposes, governed
by laws and mostly in use in developed cities. This essay is an in depth analysis of residential
zoning practises, with a focus on the case of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, there are plans by the government, passed in 2009, which aimed at increasing the

per capita income of $17,558, with an annual economic growth rate of 12.5 percent, making it a
beta city in the global ranking (O Connor 34). According to the 2010 census results, the 10 districts
in the region had Biyun District registering the highest number of people, whereas Conghua district
registered the lowest at 2.2 million and 593,000 respectively. By comparison, the other districts

Lot size Zoning in Major Cities
Most cities in the world today carry out zoning activities to achieve different objective, the most
common of which is lot coverage, regulation of building heights, or functional zoning (which
refers to regulating the type of activities that are being carried out on a piece of land). In any given
political economy, lot size zoning is also referred to as

Argumentative Essay On Community Colleges
Community colleges are meant to be largely funded by tuition localities and states. However, as
reported by the Washington Post, this is not the case in Florida (Danielle 2016). In 2008, the
counties offered no support to the community colleges because of the financial crisis. This has
changed over the past few years, though very little funding is still given to the community colleges
by the counties. Since community colleges are meant to offer opportunities to people who cannot
continue with higher education, the needs of these students may be higher than the funding that
the county offers for tuition. As a result, the community colleges are divided into bronze, silver
and gold schools. The largest share is allocated to the gold schools whereas the silver and bronze
receive smaller shares or none at all for the bronze schools. Most students in Florida are
encouraged to pass through community colleges before proceeding to universities to polish their
grades (Danielle 2016). Florida s universities on the other hand get funded by both federal and state
government. There are other ways in which these community colleges and universities in Florida
and other higher learning institutions in the US get funded. These include: personal or family loans
and savings, provision of scholarships by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Clare Boothe Luce s Speech
As society advances and the opinions of the general public change several press outlets work to
stay up to date with the changing times. However, in an attempt to stay modernized journalists
often times sacrifice their integrity to stay favorable in the public eye. These degrading actions,
often times sacrifice the true news for more appealing news. Clare Boothe Luce, American
journalist and politician, gives a controversial speech to the Women s National Press Club
condemning her female audience. Moreover, as a female addressing an audience of women she is
able to give her true opinion and is able to honestly critique her colleagues. She persuades her
audience by preparing them for the criticism by reiterating that she is the guest, by praising
journalism, and by logically providing reasoning that the journalistic view must change for the good
of the general public.
Luce begins her speech by expressing her happiness and excitement for being invited to be the
guest of honor at the Women s National Press Club. Expressing her happiness, she says she is
flattered and challenged by the opportunity to give her speech. However, as she continues her
introduction by repeating her introductory statement she alters it by saying that she is less happy
and more challenged than one might know. The slight change in her statement prepares her
audience for something that they may view as unpleasant, so that they do not feel shocked about
what they are about to hear. Not only is Clare Luce able to subtly communicate with her audience
but she is also able to provide signs that can help them better understand her purpose. Additionally,
in order to remind the audience that they asked for her opinion, Luce states that she did not offer to
give the speech rather she says you asked for it, reminding the audience that her opinion and
critique is exactly what they requested. The repetition of the nature of her speech allows Luce to
confirm that her audience is clear about her intentions with the speech that she is about to give.
As Luce continues her speech she softens her audience for the criticism by praising their careers
and their writings. Yet, she continues to provide warnings by retelling them that they are an

Mechanical Engineering And Their Knowledge Of...
Environmental engineers use their knowledge of biology and chemistry to create solutions to
environmental problems. They are associated with controlling water and air pollution, recycling
and ways of improving it, public health issues, and waste disposal. Environmental engineers
evaluate hazardous waste, advise on how to treat and contain the hazard, and develop regulations on
how to prevent mishaps with the hazard in the future. They design water supply and industrial
wastewater treatment systems, research the impact on the environment a proposed construction
project will have, analyze scientific data, and do quality control checks. Environmental engineers
are concerned with not just local environmental issues, but worldwide issues as well. They are also
involved in the protection of wildlife. Many environmental engineers work as consultants, help their
clients to comply with government regulations, prevent environmental damage, and clean up
hazardous sites and any waste on them.
Mechanical engineers design, manufacture, develop, research, and test machines, tools, engines,
and other mechanical devices. Mechanical engineering is considered one of the broadest engineering
disciplines out there. Internal combustion engines, steam and gas turbines, and electric generators
are some of the power producing machines engineers in this line of work, will work on, while

The Impacts of Changing Immigration Patterns of the...
Immigration has gone through many different stages of change just as the nation of Canada had
many stages of change. Transformations of immigration during the post war period greatly
impacted the society and immigration patterns of today. These changes included the post war
immigration boom, a less segregating ImmigrationAct and the rise of multicultural and refugee
immigration. Post war immigration patterns have differed from previous waves of immigration due
to their size and source of immigration resulting in a grand change in the face of Canada. During
the post war period, Canada benefited from a boom of immigrants. After the war, 1.5 million
immigrants flocked to Canada consisting mainly of European immigrants (). These immigrants...

However, the induction of the Point System coincided with restrictions from the Britain. This made
Canada more preferable to various immigrants. The ideals against discrimination of immigrants
have since been an integral part of immigration policy. The new vision for Immigration Act in 1976
led to the increased opportunities for visible minorities and refugees. In the 1986 Census of Canada,
a visible minority is defined by Statistics Canada as people of the following origins: Blacks, Indo
Pakistani, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, South East Asian, Filipino, Other Pacific Islanders, West
Asian and Arab, and Latin American, excluding Argentinean and Chilean (justice.gc.ca). This new
revision of the Immigration Act dealt with many issues with the immigration process from previous
revisions. This Immigration Act defined 4 classes of immigrants (independent, family, sponsored
family member and refugees). The previous Act of 1952 had only focused on independent and
dependent (sponsored) immigrants. Even though this Act supported family reunification of Asian
Canadians, it discriminated and placed quotas on many ethnic groups. The Immigration Act of 1976
on the other hand, focused on the right of immigrants to uniform and fair treatment from
government officials and generosity to refugees (). This allowed for more visible minorities and
refugees to make Canada their new home. For example, by 1978, the number of refugees and
reunited families outnumber that of immigrants

for children and adults. This essay was published in 2009 and comes from the book

politicians, scientists, as well as information about global cooling. In the text, a few words were

Application Feedback On Student Performance
The area that I have choice to complete my action research project on is giving specific written
feedback on student written assignments will effect student performance on essay and test
questions. I chose this area because of a professional development class I took last year, Assessment
for Learning. I have been working on using rubrics and better assessments and using the formative
assessment for planning my teaching. One of the areas that most of my students struggle with is
writing, therefore I will focus this research action project on teaching my students how to be
better writers. Using specific feedback on skills they did well on and skills they need to
continue to work on, should help students focus on improving their writing. My research
questions is :When given specific feedback that is positive and corrective, students will increase
the quality of their writing assignments and therefore their grades. There is a lot of research on
the topic of specific feedback. According to Black and William(2001), feedback should focus only
on the quality of the work produced by the student and should not compare students to each other.
This feedback should on goals the student can achieve; an individual guide for improvement.
According to Stiggins (2007) students need to know the answers to several questions. Where am I
at? Where am I going? As well as, how do I get there? Give specific written feedback on
assignments can help students answer those questions. Stiggins

believes that providing food and shelter for displace women and children of abused home is not
good enough. The organization in addition to food and shelter will help educate the community on
the effect of domestic violenceon children. Everyone knows that violence at home affects every
member of the family. That is why the organization will provide large range of service which

Batman, not Superman, Is the Better Superhero
Super heroes are fictional characters who possess amazing characters and often appear in comic
books. A super hero is someone who is well known for extraordinary characteristics or behaviors
i.e. strength, courage, nobility, fighting crime and seeking justice in their world. They often
have special powers and are clothed in special costumes that distinguish them from others. They
live a life of a loner as a means of protecting their identity and to maintain a high level of secrecy.
They are well celebrated all over the world and especially in their where they perform an act of
heroism. A super hero is known for good deeds and rarely practices bad deeds. They save people
and help the weak out of a problem. In my opinion I would say that supermanis a more super hero
than batman.
Superman also known as Man of steel is a known superhero. Since his creation he has been around
for approximately 60 years. Clark Kent is his real name. He is not a human and is from planet
Krypton. He was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster high school students in 1933 (DC
Comics, 2008). He is said to be one of the most powerful superheroes in the universe possessing
great knacks such as, heat vision, great fighting skills, freezing breath, incredible super strength

scientifically managed world state and socialist economy.[12]
During the Red Scare of 1947 1957, conspiracy theorists of the American secular and Christian right

In step 3, the organized data gathered in step 2 is reviewed and analyzed, looking for factors

Step 4. Countermeasure. In Step 4, all possible changes are formulated, based on feasibility of the
solution and the effectiveness it will have will upon the root cause factors that eliminate or

each change formulated is not only corrective in nature but preventative also. Implementing
preventative changes has a greater overall effect, it prevents recurrence. The tools used during step

We Re Hot as Hell
We re Hot as Hell
Is global warming a moral dilemma? Is it the public policy problem from hell? In The
Environmental Issue from Hell, Bill McKibben uses many of such phrases en route to arguing for
a new approach to global warming. By discussing hell and morals, the reader s mind is already
equating it with two heavily debated issues. Therefore, we begin to question their existence and
how we should deal with the subjects. McKibben wisely chooses these disputes to represent his
main concerns: the ways in which consumerism affects the global ecosystem, and the impact of
humans on the environment. McKibben presents a solution on how to handle each of these
environmental issues, utilizing both the people and the government.
McKibben s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mckibben inaugurates his third paragraph suggesting that we make the environmental issues, the
great moral crisis of our time, and the equivalent of the civil rights movement of the 1960s. (747).
He uses this analogy to explain that in his opinion, we are strip mining the present and destroying
all of whom come after it. Thus, leading him to discuss exactly how humans materialistic ways
have impacted the earth. From Bangladesh living three months in thigh high deep water, to polar
bears becoming 20% scrawnier than they were a decade ago (748). The environmentalist writer
goes on to discuss how to deal with global warming since it is indeed creeping up on us.
Mckibben once again articulates his repetitive view that, it s a moral question, finally, if you
think we owe any debt to the future. (748). In many circumstances it is believed that if it had
been done to us, we would dislike the generation that did it, just as how we will one day be
disliked. The solution given in the essay on how to handle these environmental issues is to start a
moral campaign. In other words, ... turn it into a political issue, just as bus boycotts began to make
public the issue of race, forcing the system to respond. (748). As a part of the overall populist
causing these issues, Mckibben understands that the hardest part about starting this moral campaign
is identifying a villain to overcome. Briefly

Altruism in Everyday Life Essay
We can say a general understanding of altruism is a selfless behavior intended for the benefit of
others at a personal cost to the individual who is preforming that behavior. These behaviors will
have no obvious gain for the provider and could also have obvious costs for the one carrying out
the behavior. Taking all of this into consideration can we say whether true altruismexists or not? It
does not exist because no matter what you do whether it be giving a beggar a dollar or saving
someone s life you are going into a loss but you get something in return no matter what it is varying
from fame to a feeling of satisfaction.
First off I ll start off by talking about the bystander effect and how it could influence people s

This is why you may sometimes see when someone is in need of help people around that person
will be looking around to see the amount of people around and plan their course of action
accordingly.
Another stimuli that causes the bystander is symbolic interactionism. Symbolic interactionism
comes from the words symbol and interaction, symbol meaning sign, and interaction meaning
communication. So symbolic interactionism is when there is a situation in which someone is in
need of help and the subject looks around to get an idea of what other people are doing and
according to their reactions evaluates the situation and then decides whether or not to help the
person in need of help. Another form of symbolic interactionism is when a potential helper looks
around and observes people s reactions and depending on how the people react he or she could
misinterpret the situation as to not being an emergency while it is or vice versa.
Sometimes we do something good for someone to benefit them and we might think of it as an
altruistic act but we may be mistaken. Even if the altruistic act costs us something, we may be
gaining something without being aware of it. Helping others can sometimes be rewarding even if
the reward you get isn t tangible, eg. happiness, it is considered a reward. For example if a man is

Themes In A Rose For Emily
In the short story A Rose for Emily , William Faulkner writes about a woman s life through the
eyes of Southern townspeople. The main character, Emily Grierson, struggles with her life
because of the townspeople s perspective of her actions. Because of the many references that are
made throughout the story, the setting is very recognizable and easy to identify. Although the
southern references are very distinct, many of these southern values, norms, and perspectives
vary and change throughout the years. Throughout the story, Faulkner describes the story s
setting through historical, social, and cultural references towards certain eras. In the beginning
of the story, the readers are told that Emily lived in a big, squarish frame house that had once
been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome
style of the seventies (998). The style of Emily s house portrays an old plantation house. These
types of houses were mainly used during Civil War because of the popularity of slavery in the
South. Because the story is set in the South, much of the South s past during the Civil War is
mentioned. The narrator explains Colonel Sartoris made a decree that stated, no Negro woman
should appear on the streets without an apron (998). During the Civil War and post Civil War eras,
white people had control over the actions of African Americans. Because of what is known about
the South during the Civil War, Colonel Sartoris s

Good And The Social Sectors
Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A Monograph to Accompany Good to Great is the
companion piece of Good to Great. It uses the idea that leadership is foundational piece to build
greatness upon. Jim Collins and his team of researchers have authored six books books about
business leadership and what makes great companies successful. He lays out four stages of
discipline with each having its guiding principles as the framework of ideas for the book. Many
people who read Good to Greathave asked how to apply the key principles to social sector
organizations. So Collins authored the companion piece, Good to Great and the Social Sectors: A
Monograph to Accompany Good to Great. In it, he outlines the use of the culture of discipline in
social sectors and that it is not a principleof business; it is a principle of greatness. Because the
principles outlined in the original book are not directed to those with business acumen they can
be applied widely to all endeavors. Good to Great and the Social Sector shows the principles in
Good to Great do apply to the social sector and to answer questions about perceived difference
between business and social sectors.
In applying the principles of Good to Great, calibrating success shows up as a top question social
sector readers ask about when trying to apply the principles. Social sector organizations do not have
the same input and outputs for measurement that businesses have. Money is an input and not a

Types And Classifications Of Pulmonary Hypertension
Abstract Pulmonary hypertension is a disease that without treatment becomes progressively worse
until a patient dies. It is characteristically a disease of young adults, but may occur all across the
lifespan making this disease even more devastating.1 Pulmonary hypertension is characterized by
elevated intrapulmonary pressures which cause dynamic changes to the cardiovascular system of
the affected individual. The adequate functioning of the cardiovascular system is vital to the
survival of the patient so while treatment is rarely curative, with the exception of organ transplant
which will be discussed later, the main goal of medical therapy is to optimize cardiovascular
functioning and stop disease progression allowing people living with this disease the best possible
quality of life and level of functioning. There are several types and classifications of pulmonary
hypertensionwith multiple pathogenesis. Different treatment modalities have been proven effective
to treat this disease process; the mainstay of treatment relies heavily on pharmacologic therapies.
Pharmacologic treatments include drugs in the following pharmacological classes: calcium channel
blockers, prostacyclins including synthetic prostacyclins and prostacyclin analogues, endothelin
receptor antagonists, and phosphodiesterase inhibitors. While pharmacologic therapies are the
mainstay of treatment, heartand, or lung transplant maybe available for a specific subtype of PH,

The Controversy Over Time Travel
Will we ever be able to time travel? Why would anyone even want to when people have to
consider possible paradoxes that time travelers may encounter. Time travel would open a Pandora
s Box, and one that once it is open we will not be able to put the lid back on.
The universe came to be from a primordial singularly known as the big bang. At around 13.799 В±
0.021 billion years the universe began to expand, and that continues to this day. Albert Einstein
developed the theory of relativity over a hundred years ago in 1905. Basically, Einstein said that
time is relative based on our speed and that the speed of light of light is constant. We now know
that the speed of light is 186,000 miles a second. The way speed works is that time moves slower ...

Perhaps it is because if there were time travelers, they would have already said hello. Of course,
that is rather simplistic to say, and based on science there needs to be proof that can be recreated
if time travel were possible. It would be nearly impossible to create a machine capable of
creating the necessary mass to slow time down and controlling it would be an even greater
problem. In fact, people would be fearful if such a contraption were constructed because it would
destroy the earth and everybody in it. Then there is the thought that we can only experience the
now. For instance, Richard Muller, a professor at UC Berkeley, has theorized that the universe
and time are both expanding at the same time and because of this time travel is impossible. Stars
are staying where they are presently, but space has moved since the Big Bang. Muller goes on to
say that, as space continues to broaden, so is time. Every moment, the universe gets a little
bigger, and there is a little more time, and it is this leading edge of time that we refer to as now,
(Muller) so does this mean that we will never be able to get to the future?
While it is still uncertain what means we will use to travel into time, the fact remains that we
have more to learn and far more discoveries to make before time travel can be ruled out. Since we
can peer into the past, that means we always had the means to go into time. It is not in the manner

The Law Of Supply And Demand
What is the law of supply and demand? They are theories explaining an interaction between the
supply of a source and a demand for that resource. The law of supply and demand defines the
availability of a particular product and the demand for that product has on the price. If there is a
lower supply and a higher demand, the price will be high, but the greater the supply and lower the
demand, the lower the price will be for the product. This is an environment where buyers and
sellers interact to exchange goods, the price of which is determined by both supply and demandfor
them.
What is the law of demand? Law of demand is the rule that holding everything else constant,
when the price of a product falls, the quantity demanded of the product will increase, and when
the price of a product rises, the quantity demanded of the product will decrease. The consumers
will buy more goods when the price falls and less of any other good when the price rises. This
leads into the substitution effect and income effect because if the price of a product falls, the
consumers buy a larger quantity. For the substitution effect, the change in the quantity demanded
of a good that results from a change in price making the good is more or less expensive relative to
other goods that are substitutes. For example, when the price of an android falls, people will
substitute buying androids for other goods like an iPad and another cell phone. The income effect
however, has a changes in the quantity

Privacy Is Not The State Or Condition Of Being Free
Privacy means the state or condition of being free from being observed or disturbed by other
people. Privacy is something that we all take for granted because we don t know how to live our
lives without it and in most cases we never have, well not like in the 1984 and The Circle.
Without privacy, people would not be comfortable doing most of the things that they do on a
daily basis. If we were being watched and listen to day in and day out then we would be living like
prisoners. We would be limited to what we say, who we talk to, and sometimes even who we date.

Because, of the telescreens, they had to be stealthy in saying what they had to do. With the thought

Orwell tells us how much the price of privacy is worth and is sacrificed for when Julia and
Winston betray each other at the end. Orwell sends many messages through out the whole story.
First, it is valid evidence that without privacy, people have to follow the rules of which the
government enforces upon them. Every government has their set of rules, but without privacy,
the government is full of control in what it enforces and what you think. On a social and
personal level, we see that Julia and Winston have to secretly have their relationship. This lead to
them eventually rebel and get caught in the story. Orwell is warning us that a relationship is
build upon trust and privacy. If we can t speak our minds on just normal stuff to a single
individual or may be a group; then their is a issue. This issue can affect the quality of the
relationship. One may not be comfortable or even trust the other party due to the lack of privacy,
and whats a friendship without privacy? But, the bottom line main thought of what can happen if
the government does not give us privacy. We see the consequences in the story The Circle , and
realistically speaking, in modern day society. We have

In the adjustment of the new order of things, we women demand an equal voice; we shall accept

She changed the way women of today are viewed. Her voice made us equal, it made us superior to

obstacle (milkman does not believe in him) and achieve his objectives (gets the uniform and

more acceptable to ordinary people and easier to provoke sympathy. He pulled the milkman to
his side, lowered his voice and acted like he trusts him. The milkman s facial expression changed

to show that he has empathy for Hannay. Here you go! Here you go! I remember he repeated this
line for several times. Then he quickly took off his white uniform and gave it right away. Hannay
looked surprised at first and gave the milkman some money in the pocket of the uniform to show
his gratefulness for the help. In the end, when the milkman realized that the money was his money,
he felt cheated and exaggeratedly shouted, Oh!! It is MY money! He gave me MY money! The
performance created a comedic execution.

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Henry VIII 1509-1515 Essay
The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Henry VIII 1509 1515
There are many differing views of Henry VIII, some people see him as a scholar and others as a
jovial and merry king. Each of these opinions views different characteristics of Henry VIII that
contributed to his strengths and weaknesses. Henry, when he succeeded the throne had several
problems that he had to address. There was also much expectation of him as his father had been
viewed as a miser and a repressor and people saw the need for dramatic change. Ian Dawson says
that at the change of monarch there was a sense of breaking free from imprisonment so much was

was after much debate of who he would marry the marriage of his brother s widow Catherine of

king of France in 1514.
Henry had no intention of giving the nobles back power so another strength he had was that he
was an all powerful figure. Prof. Ronald Hutton says he managed the nobility by honouring and
flattering them . Henry went through Parliament to get reforms when he wanted them. By doing
this he increased power of democracy as well as for himself. The early years of Henry s reign saw
great rivalry amongst the noblemen to secure Henry s favour and to try to regain power, which
Henry VII had taken away. They saw the opportunity of manipulating the new king into restoring
what they had had.
Henry was a dominating person which helped him fit into a kingly image, he was much taller
than was average at the time and was muscular too giving the idea of him being strong. He was
always trying to impress people, particularly foreign ambassadors, chiefly by his lavish court and
rich life style. Dawson says he would play the part of a warrior hero . He did this by war and

Analysis Of Vic Gatrell s The Hanging Tree Essay
Vic Gatrell s The Hanging Tree explores the opinions of average and lower class citizens on public
hangings on England from 1770 until 1868 rather than the opinions of bureaucrats, royalty, and
other elites as many similar histories do. He argues that the opinions of lower class citizens grew
more and more unfavorable during this time, and the movement of executions to a private setting in
the 1860s was a direct result of the diminishing support for public executions. At the same time, the
gradual shift among elites and other government officials toward the abolishment of public
executions was a reaction against increasingly unruly crowds and the squeamishness toward the
spectacle of the execution (67). This book is organized into six sections with a total of 21 chapters.
The first section describes the mentality of the audience present at public executions, and the
second section covers the private opinions of plebian, or lower class citizens on execution. The
third section defends Gatrell s argument that the outlawing of public executions was more of a
solution to large rioting crowds than it was for humanitarian purposes. The fourth and fifth sections
offer detailed accounts of specific court cases that demonstrate the unfairness and ineffectiveness of
the Blood Code and public execution in England. Finally, the sixth section contains Gatrell s
argument against those who deem themselves reformers who, in Gatrell s opinion, only reformed

Holden Caulfield Relevant Today
Many consider The Catcher in the Rye to be the most poignant and popular story of adolescence in
American literature. Reading reviews, examining the public reception, and uncovering depths of
research would evidence this well. However, the value of the novel rests not in its popularity a
simple sign of its inherent value but in its ability to resonate truth. More than merely telling a story,
Salinger creates a relatable life through the actions and attitudes of his ornery adolescent character
Holden Caulfield. Even though Holden can be annoying and the setting of the novel dated, his
perspective of the world makes The Catcher in the Rye just as relevant to Australian teenagers

This continues to make the novel just as relevant to Australian youth in 2018. During his
meeting with his history teacher Mr Spencer, before Holden leaves Pencey, he explains why he
left Elkon Hills. He attributes, One of the biggest reasons I left... was because I was surrounded
by phonies. They were coming in the god damn window...Mr Haas... was the phoniest bastard
you ve ever seen. (pg. 12) Holden s reference to the adjective phonies is the first of many
references to people who he sees as fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the
principal, an adult in a position of authority as a phony coupled with a derogatory insult such as
bastard indicates his negative and critical view of those who he sees as fake, particularly adults.
This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens today. Moreover, his scepticism of
phonies is eptimized in his description of his brother D.B he tells the reader that now [D.B] is
out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. If there s one thing I hate, it s the movies, (pg.1).
Through the first person narration and the language choice of the noun prostitute it is clear that
Holden views Hollywood as the center of superficiality a world where nothing is genuine or real.
The strong language choice of the verb hate , illustrates Holden s negative views of this aspect of
the adult world. This scepticism of a lack of authenticity in the world makes the novel relatable to
a contemporary audience. A Forbes article entitle Authenticity: The Way To The Millennial s Heart,

A. 1 Describe Market Segmentation
Part A 1 Describe Market Segmentation
Market Segmentation was introduced by Wendall Smith (Smith, 1956). Benefits of market
segmentation include a better and fuller understanding of the market, the ability to predict customer
behaviour with more accuracy and an increased chance of detecting potential market opportunities
(Kotler and Cox, 1988).
The total market is perceived to be made up of several smaller segments, each segment in some way
different from the other. This enables businesses to identify which segments are appealing to them
and they can then profitably target their products and services to these customer segments through
their marketing (Meyer and Graham, 2015)
Similarly (Tynan and Drayton, 1987) states that the aim of market segmentation is to identify
market segments, or individual sets of customers, which would form targets for the company s
future marketing plans. The elements used to separate customers into segments can include: age,
gender, occupation, income, life stage, amongst others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also stress that although members may have similar ages, incomes etc, this does not mean that
they will all respond uniformly to the same marketing

(Sweetland, 2016). A writer will convey a character s emotional personality in a scene through
active, non verbal communication with the right intensity and frequency. The emotional, mental,
and social qualities to distinguish one entity from another are character. A... Show more content on

Every story will send a character on an outer journey which is the dramatic action plot line. This
journey will end up causing the character to undergo and inner transformation. The transformation
is shown through the character s emotional development. Tracking the character s reactions to the
dramatic action in each scene and plotting out the protagonist s emotional development over the
entire story on a scene tracker ensures a believable and smooth transformation in the character.
The transformation will take place in each scene and span the entire story. If tension, conflict, and
suspense drive the reader to turn the page or send the viewer to the edge of his or her seat, the
character emotional development connects and inspires that person to the story. Viewers go to the
movies and readers read stories to learn about a character s emotional development. Therefore, the
character will become a primary layer in the overall story. Personality is easy to read; people are
judged as extroverted, funny, optimistic,

The importance of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution is such that some have called it the amendment that completed the Constitution. When it was ratified on July 9th, 1868, the amendment became one of legislative cornerstones of the Reconstruction Era, a time in which the Radical Republicans, led by John A. Bingham and Thaddeus Stevens, promulgated a legislative program focused on providing racial equality before the law. The conquering North was hoping to, as was said by Abraham Lincoln in his Second Inaugural Address, bind up the nation s wounds, and obtain, a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations. However, the South, while it had been forced to discontinue slavery, was not prepared to accept Blacks as equal citizens, either politically or socially. In late 1865, Southern states began creating the set of laws that became known as the Black Codes, severely restricting the rights of the newly freed African Americans living in the South. The degree to which the Black Codes limited freedom of African Americans would eventually become one of the major motivations for the passage of first the Civil Rights Act of 1866, and finally, in 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment. Miller provided a listing of the rights that had been abridged under the Black Codes: [African Americans] were in some states forbidden to appear in the towns in any other character than menial servants. They were required to reside on and cultivate the soil without the right to purchase or own it. They were excluded from many occupations...and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. John Milton s Paradise Lost John Milton s famous poem Paradise Lost has influenced society throughout the ages on a number of topics ranging from the fall of Satan to the marriage roles that Adam and Eve teach us. One idea stands alone though more so than that of any other topic that Milton writes about and that is the idea of a Satanic Trinity. The Satanic Trinity shows how the evil of Hell spread to Earth and how it tempts us in our everyday life. Milton writes about the Satanic Trinity because he believes that one must understand the evil that comes out of the Satanic Trinity before one can fully appreciate and embrace the good that comes out of the Holy Trinity. John Miltonis considered one of the greatest English poets of all time. Milton s career as a writer of prose and poetry spans three distinct eras: Stuart England; the Civil War (1642 1648) and Interregnum, including the Commonwealth (1649 1653) and Protectorate (1654 1660); and the Restoration (Albert C. Labriola par .1). Milton was born at 6:30 in the morning on 9 December 1608. His parents were John Milton, Sr., and Sara Jeffrey Milton, and the place of birth was the family home, marked with the sign of the spread eagle, on Bread Street, London (Labriola par .6). • 9. Argumentative Essay On Community Colleges Community colleges are meant to be largely funded by tuition localities and states. However, as reported by the Washington Post, this is not the case in Florida (Danielle 2016). In 2008, the counties offered no support to the community colleges because of the financial crisis. This has changed over the past few years, though very little funding is still given to the community colleges by the counties. Since community colleges are meant to offer opportunities to people who cannot continue with higher education, the needs of these students may be higher than the funding that the county offers for tuition. As a result, the community colleges are divided into bronze, silver and gold schools. The largest share is allocated to the gold schools whereas the silver and bronze receive smaller shares or none at all for the bronze schools. • 10. Summary Of Clare Boothe Luce s Speech As society advances and the opinions of the general public change several press outlets work to stay up to date with the changing times. However, in an attempt to stay modernized journalists often times sacrifice their integrity to stay favorable in the public eye. These degrading actions, often times sacrifice the true news for more appealing news. Clare Boothe Luce, American journalist and politician, gives a controversial speech to the Women s National Press Club condemning her female audience. Moreover, as a female addressing an audience of women she is able to give her true opinion and is able to honestly critique her colleagues. She persuades her audience by preparing them for the criticism by reiterating that she is the guest, by praising journalism, and by logically providing reasoning that the journalistic view must change for the good of the general public. Luce begins her speech by expressing her happiness and excitement for being invited to be the guest of honor at the Women s National Press Club. Expressing her happiness, she says she is flattered and challenged by the opportunity to give her speech. However, as she continues her introduction by repeating her introductory statement she alters it by saying that she is less happy and more challenged than one might know. The slight change in her statement prepares her audience for something that they may view as unpleasant, so that they do not feel shocked about what they are about to hear. Not only is Clare Luce able to subtly communicate with her audience but she is also able to provide signs that can help them better understand her purpose. Additionally, in order to remind the audience that they asked for her opinion, Luce states that she did not offer to give the speech rather she says you asked for it, reminding the audience that her opinion and critique is exactly what they requested. The repetition of the nature of her speech allows Luce to confirm that her audience is clear about her intentions with the speech that she is about to give. As Luce continues her speech she softens her audience for the criticism by praising their careers and their writings. Yet, she continues to provide warnings by retelling them that they are an ... The Immigration Act of 1976 on the other hand, focused on the right of immigrants to uniform and fair treatment from government officials and generosity to refugees (). The main character, Emily Grierson, struggles with her life because of the townspeople s perspective of her actions. Because of the many references that are made throughout the story, the setting is very recognizable and easy to identify. Although the southern references are very distinct, many of these southern values, norms, and perspectives vary and change throughout the years. Throughout the story, Faulkner describes the story s setting through historical, social, and cultural references towards certain eras. In the beginning of the story, the readers are told that Emily lived in a big, squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies (998). • 26. Types And Classifications Of Pulmonary Hypertension Abstract Pulmonary hypertension is a disease that without treatment becomes progressively worse until a patient dies. It is characteristically a disease of young adults, but may occur all across the lifespan making this disease even more devastating.1 Pulmonary hypertension is characterized by elevated intrapulmonary pressures which cause dynamic changes to the cardiovascular system of the affected individual. The adequate functioning of the cardiovascular system is vital to the survival of the patient so while treatment is rarely curative, with the exception of organ transplant which will be discussed later, the main goal of medical therapy is to optimize cardiovascular functioning and stop disease progression allowing people living with this disease the best possible quality of life and level of functioning. There are several types and classifications of pulmonary hypertensionwith multiple pathogenesis. Different treatment modalities have been proven effective to treat this disease process; the mainstay of treatment relies heavily on pharmacologic therapies. Pharmacologic treatments include drugs in the following pharmacological classes: calcium channel blockers, prostacyclins including synthetic prostacyclins and prostacyclin analogues, endothelin receptor antagonists, and phosphodiesterase inhibitors. Time travel would open a Pandora s Box, and one that once it is open we will not be able to put the lid back on. The universe came to be from a primordial singularly known as the big bang. At around 13.799 В± 0.021 billion years the universe began to expand, and that continues to this day. Albert Einstein developed the theory of relativity over a hundred years ago in 1905. Basically, Einstein said that time is relative based on our speed and that the speed of light of light is constant. We now know that the speed of light is 186,000 miles a second. Of course, that is rather simplistic to say, and based on science there needs to be proof that can be recreated if time travel were possible. It would be nearly impossible to create a machine capable of creating the necessary mass to slow time down and controlling it would be an even greater problem. In fact, people would be fearful if such a contraption were constructed because it would destroy the earth and everybody in it. Then there is the thought that we can only experience the now. For instance, Richard Muller, a professor at UC Berkeley, has theorized that the universe and time are both expanding at the same time and because of this time travel is impossible. Stars are staying where they are presently, but space has moved since the Big Bang. Muller goes on to say that, as space continues to broaden, so is time. Every moment, the universe gets a little bigger, and there is a little more time, and it is this leading edge of time that we refer to as now, (Muller) so does this mean that we will never be able to get to the future? While it is still uncertain what means we will use to travel into time, the fact remains that we have more to learn and far more discoveries to make before time travel can be ruled out. Since we can peer into the past, that means we always had the means to go into time. It is not in the manner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Law Of Supply And Demand What is the law of supply and demand? They are theories explaining an interaction between the supply of a source and a demand for that resource. The law of supply and demand defines the availability of a particular product and the demand for that product has on the price. If there is a lower supply and a higher demand, the price will be high, but the greater the supply and lower the demand, the lower the price will be for the product. This is an environment where buyers and sellers interact to exchange goods, the price of which is determined by both supply and demandfor them. What is the law of demand? Law of demand is the rule that holding everything else constant, when the price of a product falls, the quantity demanded of the product will increase, and when the price of a product rises, the quantity demanded of the product will decrease. The consumers will buy more goods when the price falls and less of any other good when the price rises. This leads into the substitution effect and income effect because if the price of a product falls, the consumers buy a larger quantity. For the substitution effect, the change in the quantity demanded of a good that results from a change in price making the good is more or less expensive relative to other goods that are substitutes. For example, when the price of an android falls, people will substitute buying androids for other goods like an iPad and another cell phone. Privacy is something that we all take for granted because we don t know how to live our lives without it and in most cases we never have, well not like in the 1984 and The Circle. Without privacy, people would not be comfortable doing most of the things that they do on a daily basis. First, it is valid evidence that without privacy, people have to follow the rules of which the government enforces upon them. Every government has their set of rules, but without privacy, the government is full of control in what it enforces and what you think. On a social and personal level, we see that Julia and Winston have to secretly have their relationship. This lead to them eventually rebel and get caught in the story. Orwell is warning us that a relationship is build upon trust and privacy. If we can t speak our minds on just normal stuff to a single individual or may be a group; then their is a issue. This issue can affect the quality of the relationship. One may not be comfortable or even trust the other party due to the lack of privacy, and whats a friendship without privacy? Prof. Ronald Hutton says he managed the nobility by honouring and flattering them . Henry went through Parliament to get reforms when he wanted them. By doing this he increased power of democracy as well as for himself. The early years of Henry s reign saw great rivalry amongst the noblemen to secure Henry s favour and to try to regain power, which Henry VII had taken away. Analysis Of Vic Gatrell s The Hanging Tree Essay Vic Gatrell s The Hanging Tree explores the opinions of average and lower class citizens on public hangings on England from 1770 until 1868 rather than the opinions of bureaucrats, royalty, and other elites as many similar histories do. He argues that the opinions of lower class citizens grew more and more unfavorable during this time, and the movement of executions to a private setting in the 1860s was a direct result of the diminishing support for public executions. At the same time, the gradual shift among elites and other government officials toward the abolishment of public executions was a reaction against increasingly unruly crowds and the squeamishness toward the spectacle of the execution (67). This book is organized into six sections with a total of 21 chapters. The first section describes the mentality of the audience present at public executions, and the second section covers the private opinions of plebian, or lower class citizens on execution. The third section defends Gatrell s argument that the outlawing of public executions was more of a solution to large rioting crowds than it was for humanitarian purposes. The fourth and fifth sections offer detailed accounts of specific court cases that demonstrate the unfairness and ineffectiveness of the Blood Code and public execution in England. (pg. 12) Holden s reference to the adjective phonies is the first of many references to people who he sees as fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the principal, an adult in a position of authority as a phony coupled with a derogatory insult such as bastard indicates his negative and critical view of those who he sees as fake, particularly adults. This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens today. Moreover, his scepticism of phonies is eptimized in his description of his brother D.B he tells the reader that now [D.B] is out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. Benefits of market segmentation include a better and fuller understanding of the market, the ability to predict customer behaviour with more accuracy and an increased chance of detecting potential market opportunities (Kotler and Cox, 1988). The total market is perceived to be made up of several smaller segments, each segment in some way different from the other. This enables businesses to identify which segments are appealing to them and they can then profitably target their products and services to these customer segments through their marketing (Meyer and Graham, 2015) Similarly (Tynan and Drayton, 1987) states that the aim of market segmentation is to identify market segments, or individual sets of customers, which would form targets for the company s future marketing plans.
