Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets which are still widely performed today. Little is known about his early life, though he likely received some education and married Anne Hathaway in 1582. Between 1585-1592 details are scarce, known as his "lost years". His plays performed very successfully by the Lord Chamberlain's Men theatre troupe, of which he was a member, making him a wealthy man. The Renaissance era greatly influenced his works through a rebirth of classical ideas and freedom from strict religious ideology, allowing for more psychologically complex characters and exploration of humanity.

9. Shakespeare’s Influence on the English Language During the Elizabethan Era, there were no grammer and rules in English. Shakespeare’s works contributed greatly to the standardization of English when they became popular in the late seventeenth century. Shakespeare introduced many new words and phrases into the English language, known as Shakespearean words. Some examples of Shakespeare’s original phrases are "seen better days, full circle, a sorry sight," and "strange bedfellows“.
