Skyscanner: Abandoning conventional wisdom for hypergrowthDouglas Cook
Not only does Skyscanner have to grapple with the fast moving world of digital marketing, but also the fast moving nature of our product, as a result we can’t do things conventionally.
We believe that business growth isn’t solely achieved from isolated efforts by a marketing department, commercial team or product engineering focus. We believe that it is achieved by blending these specialisms together in a cohesive approach to our markets. With that in mind we have undergone a transformation in the last two years from a traditional marketing structure to a Lean, Agile, Growth Hacking team – and all the buzzwords in-between.

Agile is a bad strategy or 5 things every Agile practitioner should know abou...Hanno Jarvet
Many people confuse strategy (the "what") with operations (the "how") and as a result spend time spinning their wheels without getting anywhere. Actually Agile is not a strategy at all, its an ongoing operational priority.
Agile might help you get to your destination faster, but if the destination is wrong the last thing we need is to get there sooner.
Sometimes business executives or customers come to us with vague images that are short on the what and why and rich on the how. Company strategy, product strategy, Agile strategy, strategic agility, key growth strategy, business strategy. Strategy this and strategy that. In order to help them and yourself you need to think at a higher level of abstraction.
Come and find out what strategy is and how to implement it. As a result you will know how to think strategically and help executives do the same.

1) The document discusses the resource-based view of the firm, which argues that a firm's resources and capabilities are the source of its competitive advantage.
2) Core competencies are the activities a firm performs better than competitors and are difficult to imitate, allowing for sustained competitive advantage.
3) Resources can be tangible (physical/financial assets) or intangible (human capital, organizational processes, reputation). Capabilities are how the firm combines resources.
4) For resources/capabilities to provide sustained advantage, they must be valuable, rare, costly to imitate, and the firm must be organized to exploit them.
1) 21st century businesses are complex adaptive systems while 20th century businesses focused on rigid mass production.
2) Within 10 years, businesses will have high levels of customer service, management, finance, and HR automation. Marketing will be predictive and AI-driven. Interactions with governments will be continual.
3) As businesses become more digital and automated, human roles will shift to being creative directors, technical overseers, and moderators to ensure systems are working properly. The value of human voices will increase.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
