A service set includes all devices connected to a wireless network. An independent basic service set is an ad-hoc network where clients connect directly to each other without an access point. A basic service set uses one access point that all wireless clients associate with. An extended service set allows roaming between two or more basic service sets that share a common SSID or network name, increasing wireless coverage and network capacity.
