User initiative for improving OOXML integration in LibreOffice/Apache Open Of...Matthias Stürmer
The talk presents the initiative “Layout-true Representation of OOXML Documents in Open Source Office Applications”. The success stories and challenges of this €140,000-funded project by Munich, Freiburg, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court and other public institutions will be explained. The session shall also provide a platform to discuss how to integrate the Apache licensed OOXML filter patches.
In a unique initiative, the German cities of Munich, Freiburg im Breisgau and Jena have joined forces with the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, the Swiss Federal IT Steering Unit (FITSU) and the canton of Waadt to provide €140,000 for the further development of OOXML integration in LibreOffice/Apache Open Office. Developed as part of a workshop held in October 2011 and published in December of the same year, the specification is designed to improve the future parsing and editing of documents from Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint in the Open Source office suites LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org. Targeted improvements include the formatting of borders and images, plus tables and bulleted lists in Word (.docx) documents, correct display of comments from Word and Excel (.xlsx) and the possibility of embedding fonts in ODF and OOXML documents.
The tender document for the “Layout-true Representation of OOXML Documents in Open Source Office Applications” project was published by the Open Source Business Alliance’s Office Interoperability working group. Bids were submitted by the LibreOffice Team from SUSE and the Hamburg-based open source company Lanedo. Since the specification is split into self-contained work packages, both SUSE and Lanedo can work independently on the development tasks. Once released, the results of this work will be available below the Apache Software Licence 2.0 to all users of the free office suites LibreOffice and Apache Open Office.
The talk given by the leader of the OSB Alliance working group "Office Interoperability" will discuss the process and the current state of this initiative. The success story but also the challenges and how they have been overcome will be explained. The session shall also provide a platform to discuss with Apache Open Office developers how to integrate the OOXML filter patches programmed by the SUSE and Lanedo teams.
Beuth Badges: Digitale Lernabzeichen an der Beuth Hochschule Ilona Buchem
Presentation about Beuth Badges - an R&D project at Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin led by Prof. Dr. Ilona Buchem – professor for digital media. The idea of Beuth Badges is inspired by one of the Mozilla DML Competition winners - Moodle as Issuer, Mahara as Displayer. Based on the idea of integrating Moodle, Mahara and Open Badges with Moodle as issuer and Mahara as displayer, our project aims at exploring new ways of integrating digital badges into higher education and beyond. The team in the Beuth Badges project develops didactic, design and technology concepts and prototypes which are applied in a number of educational scenarios including:
*Higher education courses (on-campus)
*Higher education courses (online)
*Qualification programs, e.g. Credit Points
*International student collaborations, e.g. Connected Learning
*Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
There has been a divorce between users and organisations and today's UX practice risks to miss some key points. We are not designing anymore for needs, but for values and meanings which can only be revealed through participative activities where users, designers and stakeholders have the opportunity to collaboratively construct and shape innovation.
Co-creation can be extremely beneficial to UX as can complete its approach by giving vision, engaging users in conversations - because "markets are conversations".

DG512 Business Model Design is an assignment within the Industrial Design Bachelor Program at the Eindhoven University of Technology. It is part of the Competency Area Business Process Design. Industrial Design students develop their business acumen during an intensive, pressure-cooker, workshop-based 6 weeks assignment by designing the business model for a real-life business case and deploying their design skills by building a tangible representation of the business model. DG512 Business Model Design is an experiment at the intersection of Education, Research, and Business. The responsible teacher for DG512 Business Model Design is Camilla van den Boom MSc, Department of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology.
Is it possible to be smart? inevitabilities, opportunities and challengesAndrew Middleton
The Challenge & Opportunity method described in this presentation has been used with large mixed groups to moderate perceptions, identify real barriers and benefits, and inform development planning for those taking part in areas of academic innovation. Data from CPD events since 2009 have informed the design of an analytical taxonomy for academic innovation (a Readiness Matrix) which is described in terms of pedagogic, organisational and technical readiness. The paper also introduces the concept of smart learning as a case study for reflecting on the method. Smart learning embraces and multiplies the effect of a set of interrelated concepts including BYOD, mobile learning, social media for learning, open learning, and rich digital media.

CLIENT: SONIM TECHNOLOGIES
Sonim Technologies is the provider of the world's most rugged, water-submersible mobile phones designed specifically for workers in demanding and hazardous environments. Followings are the two application on which I have worked on.
1) DIRECT MESSAGING APPLICATION
DM module is a standalone accessory which will be connected to the mobile device on top Xpand connector. So in a dead zone, using this device and application user can send messages, audios, and location to other users.
2) SCOUT APPLICATION
Scout means to explore an area to obtain information. Similarly, SCOUT application assists all the applications of the phone and gives information about the phone. It’s a one-stop application for users to access the phone.
For above applications, we started by creating a sitemap of the application to convert it into low fidelity wireframes, high fidelity wireframes, and prototyping. We have used Sketch Software for creating User Interface Design and Iconography. For clickable prototyping and collaborating with developers, we had used Invision software.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
