This document is a survey on implementing LTE in unlicensed bands. It discusses how the amount of licensed spectrum is becoming scarce as wireless network traffic increases. Using unlicensed spectrum alongside licensed spectrum through techniques like Licensed Shared Access (LSA) or Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) could help enhance cell capacity and handle growth. Currently the 5 GHz band is being used to test Wi-Fi offloading as a way to achieve this goal of implementing LTE in unlicensed bands.

Abstract
According to GSA’s Status of the LTE Ecosystem Report (October 14,
2014), 2.218 LTE user devices have been announced by 183 manufactur-
ers that is 978 devices more than a year ago. As apparently seen, with
the increase in wireless network traffic, the amount of the licensed spec-
trum is becoming scarce. In order to handle this growth and enhance
the cell capacity of existing LTE networks, using licensed spectrum as a
secondary user manner, which belongs to another Incumbent, with LTE
alongside licensed spectrum, also is called Authorized Shared Access
(ASA) or also named as Licensed Shared Access (LSA). This sugges-
tion is also known as Licence Assisted Access (LAA) and will let the
operators to benefit from the additional capacity available from the unli-
censed spectrum, especially in hotspots and corporate environments [2].
To achieve this goal, currently 5 GHz band is being used for the tests of

A METHOD A DEVICE AND A SYSTEM FOR OBTAINING HIGH DATA RATE AND CONTINUED SER...
A device, system, and method are disclosed for obtaining high data rates and continued service over multiple radio access networks. The system comprises a device that can create multiple parallel links to connect to at least one other device using its various interfaces. The other device can receive connection requests and provide a connection to the device using the multiple parallel links. It then sends data to the device by dynamically balancing the load between the connections according to their link speeds. This allows for dynamic bandwidth aggregation over multiple internet connections for a host and switching of connections in case of loss of connection. Potential applications include rural broadband, tele-education, and tele-medicine.
406MHz - 430MHz Sharing and Trials

Spectrum Sensing with Energy Detection in Cognitive Radio Networks

Demand of data usage and increase of subscribers in Long Term Evolution (LTE) has urged Third Group Partnership Project (3GPP) to find a solution of traffic data growth. In Release 12, the 3GPP introduced Wi-Fi as an alternative to ease the heavy traffic at the LTE base station in dense areas. In contrary with the traffic offloading, Wi-Fi users suffer the worst network degradation because of co-channel interference at frequency 2.4GHz due to collided with LTE band 40. Interference management in LTE-Wi-Fi integrated network is crucial as it affect user’s experiences and services. In this paper, we enhanced a method which is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) to improve user’s performance in LTE-Wi-Fi network. The DSSS has advantages such as more robust and ability to expand to higher data rates. We introduce a new coefficient called as chip rate coefficient (α) to investigate Signal -to-Interference-Noise Ratio (SINR) expression for User Equipments (UEs) in LTE-Wi-Fi networks. The simulation results discovered that proposed α with value of 0.2 gave the optimum improvement of SINR for LTE and Wi-Fi users. By modifying the SINR expression of the standard DSSS, SINR values at MUE and WUE show better improvement with 4.69% and 17.94%, respectively.

Network Traffic Trends Prediction Using Machine Learning Modelling of Packet ...
This deck proposes a method to predict network traffic trends ans spot traffic anomalies. The machine learning modelling is done on the packet lengths that constitute network traffic and this provides an elegant way to digest a histogram of packet lengths in time t into a pair of data points. An unsupervised machine learning method is applied on the obtained dataset and the resulting clusters are labeled. Changes in cluster composition indicate traffic trends that may be then interpreted for network insights.

A Novel Approach for Cell Selection and Synchronization in LTE-Advanced
Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the result of the standardization work done by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to achieve a new high speed radio access in the mobile communications frame. Cell selection by a mobile UE is another issue in LTE. In particularly, an interesting challenge in the physical layer of LTE is how the mobile unit immediately after powering on, select a radio cell and locks on to it. More specifically, to understand how the mobile unit establishes the connection with the strongest cell station in surrounding region. To do this, the mobile unit has to overcome the challenges of estimating the channel to communicate with the cell site and frequency synchronization. To appropriately synchronize the mobile unit with the base station when multiple mobile unit are communicating with same receiver from various distances.
Long Term Evolution (LTE)

incorporating similar sensing and back-off features. Nonetheless,
the results presented by industry groups offer little consensus
on important issues like respective network parameter settings
that promote “fair access” as required by 3GPP. Answers to
such key system deployment aspects, in turn, require credible
analytical models, on which there has been a little progress
to date. Accordingly, in one of the first works of its kind,
we develop a new framework for estimating the throughput
of Wi-Fi and LTE-LAA in coexistence scenarios via suitable
modifications to the celebrated Bianchi model. The impact of
various network parameters such as energy detection threshold
on Wi-Fi and LTE-LAA coexistence is explored as a byproduct
and corroborated via a National Instrument experimental test
bed that validates the results for LTE-LAA access priority classes
1 and 3.

Demand of data usage and increase of subscribers in Long Term Evolution (LTE) has urged Third Group Partnership Project (3GPP) to find a solution of traffic data growth. In Release 12, the 3GPP introduced Wi-Fi as an alternative to ease the heavy traffic at the LTE base station in dense areas. In contrary with the traffic offloading, Wi-Fi users suffer the worst network degradation because of co-channel interference at frequency 2.4GHz due to collided with LTE band 40. Interference management in LTE-Wi-Fi integrated network is crucial as it affect user’s experiences and services. In this paper, we enhanced a method which is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) to improve user’s performance in LTE-Wi-Fi network. The DSSS has advantages such as more robust and ability to expand to higher data rates. We introduce a new coefficient called as chip rate coefficient (α) to investigate Signal -to-Interference-Noise Ratio (SINR) expression for User Equipments (UEs) in LTE-Wi-Fi networks. The simulation results discovered that proposed α with value of 0.2 gave the optimum improvement of SINR for LTE and Wi-Fi users. By modifying the SINR expression of the standard DSSS, SINR values at MUE and WUE show better improvement with 4.69% and 17.94%, respectively.

absence of primary users for spectrum usage. So spectrums sensing is one of the major requirements of cognitive radio.Many
spectrum sensing techniques have been developed to sense the presence or absence of a licensed user. This paper evaluates
the performance of the energy detection based spectrum sensing technique in noisy and fading environments.The
performance of the energy detection technique will be evaluated by use of Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curves
over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and fading channels.

The machine learning modelling is done on the packet lengths that constitute network traffic and this provides an elegant way to digest a histogram of packet lengths in time t into a pair of data points. An unsupervised machine learning method is applied on the obtained dataset and the resulting clusters are labeled. Changes in cluster composition indicate traffic trends that may be then interpreted for network insights.

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the result of the standardization work done by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to achieve a new high speed radio access in the mobile communications frame. Cell selection by a mobile UE is another issue in LTE. In particularly, an interesting challenge in the physical layer of LTE is how the mobile unit immediately after powering on, select a radio cell and locks on to it. More specifically, to understand how the mobile unit establishes the connection with the strongest cell station in surrounding region. To do this, the mobile unit has to overcome the challenges of estimating the channel to communicate with the cell site and frequency synchronization. To appropriately synchronize the mobile unit with the base station when multiple mobile unit are communicating with same receiver from various distances.

we develop a new framework for estimating the throughput

modifications to the celebrated Bianchi model. The impact of
various network parameters such as energy detection threshold
on Wi-Fi and LTE-LAA coexistence is explored as a byproduct
and corroborated via a National Instrument experimental test

Stephan ten Brink Abstract According to GSA’s Status of the LTE Ecosystem Report (October 14, 2014), 2.218 LTE user devices have been announced by 183 manufactur- ers that is 978 devices more than a year ago. As apparently seen, with the increase in wireless network traffic, the amount of the licensed spec- trum is becoming scarce. In order to handle this growth and enhance the cell capacity of existing LTE networks, using licensed spectrum as a secondary user manner, which belongs to another Incumbent, with LTE alongside licensed spectrum, also is called Authorized Shared Access (ASA) or also named as Licensed Shared Access (LSA). This sugges- tion is also known as Licence Assisted Access (LAA) and will let the operators to benefit from the additional capacity available from the unli- censed spectrum, especially in hotspots and corporate environments [2]. To achieve this goal, currently 5 GHz band is being used for the tests of Wi-Fi offloading.
