Project 2: DOCUMENTATION OF A MEDIUM-SIZED PROJECT

Introduction
This involves the documentation of your Studio 6 Architectural Design Project, to apply the principles learned in Project
1 to your final project. Students from Design Studio 4 or 5 will use their design in Studio 4 or 5 for the study.
Objectives of Project
Theobjectivesofthisprojectareasfollows:
To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources
To evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project’s life cycle and the nature of a project’s success.
To understand the means of evaluating and managing risks that can lead to success and failure in a project’s
performance.
Learning Outcomes of this Project
By the end of this project, students are expected to understand thefollowing:

ApplyProjectManagementtools andtechniquestocontrol andcommunicatetoachieveacommon goal
Summarize strategies for the execution of the development process in response to the client's objectives.
Tasks-Methodology
Your task is to document your own Design Studio Project from the point of view of a Project Manager.
Document (Written report, annotated visual images) will be in 5 main Components in total:
1. Introduction of Project (Identifying clients, stakeholders, objectives and goals).
2. Design Analysis, picking up issues of Design Suitability and Project Viability and specifically related to your
design. (Note: This is to be in essay format, schematic diagrams, sketches and drawing where necessary).
3. Project Procurement and Resource Planning (to identify the most suitable contract procurement for the
project and planning of resources, organization structures to achieve project deliverables)
4. Risk Analysis, and Maintenance Strategy (to achieve the identified success criteria and project
deliverables). This must be in a table format.
5. Success Criteria, WBS, Gantt chart (showing the measurable success criteria for the overall implementation
strategy, analysis of critical paths, floats plotted against time). This chart will highlight Project Deliverables.
6. Students are required to perform their own research and study on the mentioned components.

Submission Requirement
- A bound A4 report (LANDSCAPE orientation) including drawings, charts, diagrams, photos documenting your
project. The project management report should be approximately 1,000 words long and not more than 20 pages.
Drawings and other documentation in A3 MUST to be folded into A4, bound into A4 report. LOOSE documentation will NOT be
accepted.

Assessment criteria
The assessment will be based on your:
Demonstrated ability to perform an accurate project analysis for yourproject from the point of view of a project
manager (Site analysis, SWOT, PESTEL, project viability)
Understanding of the basic contractual requirement and resources required.
Understanding of the issues involved in Risk Management and their application to your project.
Measurable Success Criteria (time, cost, scope/quality).
Ability to construct a viable and realistic WBS and Gantt chart for yourproject.
Quality and legibility of your presentation document and the smart use of Tools/Techniques in your
presentation.
