The student reflects on their group's music video project. In pre-production, they did not properly understand time constraints or plan thoroughly, hindering their work. They also struggled to schedule meetings. In production, a lack of variety in shots and continuity issues arose from limited filming time due to members' commitments. Post-production relied too heavily on one member's skills, though the group was able to jointly assess their work and identify areas for improvement. Overall, the group worked well together despite challenges and learned from the experience.
1. Self evaluation
Pre-production
What was wrong.
I feel that when we started the pre-production section of the task we did not fully
understand how little time we had to complete everything nor did we understand
how useful this would provein helping us latter on which resulted in our group
not finishing some of the tasks to as high a standard as we could which can be
seen mostclearly in our timings which I believe was lacklustreand could have
been done to a higher standard which would have resulted in a much better
product. Another issue our group had was we was unable to reach agreements
about when the group could meet after schoolwhich resulted in time that could
be better spent working sorting outissues that arosesuch as when we discovered
we did not have a suitable location for the house scenes and had to find a work
around.
What wentwell
I believe that our group despite these issues worked well together and managed
to deal with these issues for the most part managed to deal with them which
allowed us to make a better product than if we did not work so well together. I
believe the reason that we worked well together was due to us all knowing each
other meaning we could cover for each other’s weaknesses and being happy to
cover for someone else if they werewill which meant as we all had input on work
it helped to cover our weaknesses for example despite my poor level of grammar
for the mostpart the work I created still had a decent level of grammar as Talia
would look over it after and make slight adjustments whiledespite her not always
knowing the information needed did not have to keep looking it up as I could give
a decent explanation which helped her.
Production
What went wrong
The biggest issuethat I believe our group had occurred while we were filming as
we did not take as much of a variety of shots as we needed which lead us to have
many problems later once we got to editing the reason for this is wewere unable
2. to meet up as much as we should havedue to different members of our group
having different family obligations such as Allister having to help with taking down
his Christmas decoration, Talia with Shabbat. Even worsethan this was that as we
started to film before the decorations weretaken down it meant that we had less
time to film the shots inside than we had planned for as wedid not realise the
issues to continuity that this would cause beforehand. As well as this severalof
our shots were timed around sun set which meant that we had little time to film
them and get the weather correct which could be seen in the different in colour
between the farther falling and when he was on the ground.
What went well.
I believe that what our group did well with the actual production side of things
was how we managed the makeup which looked really good mand helped to
create the effect that we was aiming for improving quality of the video and how
when we was filming we had two people comparing what would make a good
shotwhich meant that we had far better framing and quality to our shots than if
we had decided that either the director or main camera man alone would be the
person to decided whatshots we would use and take this also allowed for us to
better spotmistakes that wemade with continuity and framing which later meant
we had very few issues with this. We additionally made surethat everyone
including the main actor filmed for at least 1 sceneso they would have some
experience with the camera for the horror movie.
Post production
What was wrong
I feel that when we was working on the post production and editing of the music
video we relied to heavily on Allister asking him for advice when we was doing
work and leaving him to do mostof it as he stated he had experience with this
which means the other members of the group do not have as much experience
than I would prefer another issue at this point was we had trouble with making
surethat wedid the production schedule weekly like we was supposed to so
instead was forced to resortto writing down in a not book and then typing it up.
The biggest issuethough was cutting on the beat as wefound we quick often was
a few frames off meaning that it had to be adjusted which took time that could
have been better spenton other things.
3. What was good
I believe that where our group expelled in the post production was that we
exploited that Allister had experience which meant we ended up with a higher
quality productthan if we had by not doing this. Additionally, I feel we manageto
keep the amount of time we spent editing split up well despite using Allister to
help us while we were trying to do it which meant that we all got some
experience even though Allister did mostof this job. As well as these things, what
we did best in this section was we did a lot of assessing whatwehad done already
together which allowed us to shareopinions of what we could improveand help
to pick out mistake we had made quite well.
