PERSONAL STATEMENT
I want to become become a director on the production as I feel that I enjoy directing,
because of the skill that is required in terms of both and making sure people do what
is needed, as well as making the most of the budget that you are allocated and the
knowledge and vision needed in terms of knowing what scenes should go where and
what placements of people will lead to the best results.
My hobbies include chess which I think helps teach people to plan ahead and the
importance of predicting the thought process of people when presented with certain
options, which in my opinion can help guide and audience to think what you want.
There is a particular game I would like to point out in particular was on twitch where
a steamer played against his audience and was beating them greatly, until a group
of about 5 people including myself who knew how to play took control, and rallied
people behind us to win which shows good leadership abilities on our part. I also
enjoy reading which I find expands my imagination and has allowed me to come up
with better ideas both for productions and what to do in them. I enjoy watching films
as analysing them can help to show what people want to do to build drama and
excitement e.t.c. Another hobby I have is debating which has taught me how to
2. better pitch ideas to people. The last hobby I have that I think is relevant to filming is
gaming as the games Iplay require good teamwork in order to succeed and has
developed both my leadership skills and my ability to work well with other including
those Ido not know.
The reason I think I am so well suited to this job is that I have worked as a director in
the past in media and found I managed to pull the best out of the people whom I
worked with and managed to salvage a bad situation reasonably well, though quick
decisions making. Additionally I find that as I have had experience on a camera it
allows for me to judge the framing and look of a shot we are taking one allowing me
to make adjustments.
CAREER OBJECTIVE
I am looking to go into the film industry, particularly via the camera departments. In
addition, I am also looking to becoming a director as my end goal, I plan on taking
the experiences Ideal with as a cameraman and learning from them. However my
end goal of taking the job is so I can in the future become a director which should
allow for me to show my creativity to the world and provide content everyone can
enjoy bringing families together. The reason I wish to be a director rather than
another role such as camera man is the power that being director brings me which
should allow me to shape how a film will end up far more directly.
PERSONAL INTERESTS AND
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
I have a large number of personal interest that are varied and I think help add to
who I am and my skills these interests/activities include chess, reading, watching
films and debating. However I will admit a general lack of enjoyment of outdoor
activities which stems from being easy to burn and sensitive to the sun which meant
as a child I found it uncomfortable to remain outside for long periods of time
3. however since then I have found biking is a good way to keep in shape and gather
thoughts and ideas.

A-level predicted
Media- this is the topic which i feel has most armed me to take on the role of director
as though the course i have tackled many aspects of media which should prove
helpful in the job. One of the things which should prove to be necessary is the
theories that we have studied while working on the course such as todorovs
narrative theory which will allow me to create a better viewing experience for the
audience. While taking media I have also been made to create projects the first of
these projects was to create a music video for a song of our choice which I filled the
roles of camerman and continuity manager, the second project we created I was
actually given the role of director which gave me a taste of what it would be like and
is what cemented my decision to pursue this career this means I am acquainted with
what the job needs and requires and mean I have a piece of work I could provide
upon request which demonstrates my previous work.
4. Business- this has taught me the importance of how to manage funds and given me
necessary skills to deal with the managerial aspects of directing for example hiring
the crew who you wish to work for you, different methods that can be used to
motivate your workers besides monetary incentives e.c.t.
English will prove a useful as it taught me how in find the underlying meanings of
what writing say which should allow me to look at a script and then use it to find the
best possible way to portray it in a film as to garner success.
Inspiration
I was inspired to become a director when a was a child as I had little friends and as
a result watched a lot of films so when I grew up which I continued with when I got
older, however unlike when I was a child I ended up appreciate the effort put in to
create a good film and was drawn to the works of the director christopher nolan as i
found is extremely skilled at building scope. A particular examples of him building
tension is in batman he shows just how the joker is made to have none of the
weakness that foe’s batman has faced in the past possess and chalances batman in
whether he will keep his rule of no killing, which creates tension not based off
whether batman will win which is assumed he would but instead whether he will
stick to his morals. I also admire his nolan's willingness to create much darker
characters, whom usually are dealing with some internal issue caused either by a
decision that they made or by something which has happened to them and how they
deal/ respond to their issue an example of this is the main character from inception
Cobb dealing with the belief that he brought his wife to commit suicide. I also feel
that his method of directing by controlling as many aspects of the film as he can
would also fit well with me as i think it allows someone to make a film their own and
ensure that it ends up the way initially envisioned.

Career plan
Year 1-3
I intend to attend a university on a media course as i think this will make me seem
like a more valid candidate for any jobs that i apply for in the future. I will look for a
course with an emphasis on the theory behind filmmaking so i will have a better
understanding of how i make a film when i get the job, another thing which would be
5. preferable is if the course included the creation of a short film as this would give
experience of what directing requires and would be something which could be sent
off with my cv when applying for a real job. Over summer I will see about getting a
part time job to do with media, the reason I want to do this is it means I will be
actively pursuing my goal over the summer when their is nothing else for me to do,
additionally I think that by being able to give an example of past working experience
i will be able to better get into university and later get a job in the media field. This
will be repeated until year 4 when i have finished uni.
Year 4
I will take a gap year once I finish uni as I think this will allow me an opportunity to
travel around and see films and productions from many different areas and try and
get a feel for what has inspired other directors to create the films that they have, I
will split the year up to 2 things. The first of these and most important is visiting area
where famous directors grew up and see the places they visited and perhaps try to
understand how this influenced them so i can better create films of my own, the
second thing is to visit other countries and see films which they have produced to
not the differences between films produced in the uk and usa and those made
abroad.
Year 5
In the fifth year after I leave sixth form i should be trying to get a job in the media
industry methods for this are as follows the best one i can do is to become a director
for small productions and try and create a piece that stands out and use that to get
bigger jobs until i am well known and trusted to make large productions, the second
method i could try is to breach the media industry via working another job such as
camera man and given time be entrusted with creating a film of my own once a
studio thinks i have enough experience in the industry and understand how a film is
created fully a thing i could do to shorten this is offer to assist in other departments
so i gain direct experience at everything which should speed the process up.
