2. What went well…
When looking at our AS media blog from year 12, there is a lot of work
we can praise ourselves on, and carry over as skills to use in the blog
process this year.
The first thing that becomes an immediate reference to what went
well, is the use of media rich posts within the blog. We had a large
variety of videos, storyboards, power points, word documents etc. This
really helped to keep not only the blog interesting and more
interactive, but more fun and creative for us to make. We were able to
share our ideas in a wide variety of ways by doing this, which made
planning, shooting, and organising our final short film opening far
easier.
3. Examples to show this…
This shows a small collection of some of
the videos we used to enhance the
interaction and effect that the blog had.
For example, when making an interview
with the cast, it was a great idea to film
it as a video instead of written as a
script. This gave a viewer to the blog a
better feel to interacting and getting to
know the people behind the making.
It was also about understanding the
best ways to showcase particular
information. We didn’t want to have
long word documents all the time, and
so it worked in our favour having a wide
variety of ways to do it otherwise. This
is an idea we will carry over to this years
work and blog – as well as think and
create more insightful ways to share our
posts.
4. More examples…
Furthermore, this slide also shows an
example of things that went well in
making the product media rich.
We researched many ideas on different
ways to present images and texts – and
through working as a group were able to
make a good collection.
We were also good at allocating posts
that worked best with everyone’s
strengths and weaknesses. For example,
if there was somebody in our group that
had a particular strength in a certain
area we ensured that their posts we
based around that area. Likewise we
didn’t allocate posts to someone if they
were weak in this aspect.
Overall, this meant we enjoyed what we
were doing, meaning our posts were
able to be uploaded on time and
effectively.
5. Planning and timing…
Within our group work we were very on top of putting together the plans for
when to post, what to post and how we were going to do it.
This allowed us to create a stress free atmosphere as everybody knew what
they were doing, and when it needed to be done by.
It also helped us keep on top of all of our work. In having one person within
our group take slightly more control it allowed us to have deadlines to meet.
Ultimately this helped us complete all the tasks much more efficiently as it
stopped our work building up.
6. Weaknesses….
However, there was no doubt that within our group we faced some issues and problems. Although not
many, one issue we faced was ‘disagreement’. In having a team of four last year there was no doubt that we
had a differ in opinions and ideas. This at times effected our team, as we all wanted to do different things.
It didn’t cause massive arguments however, but it did effect the way we all worked. To improve it this year,
we have decided to all take into account one another’s ideas and not just our own. We will take on board
every idea another person has, and do our best to make it work. Ultimately, we don’t want to incorporate
something that doesn’t fit the theme, context or purpose – but we will make sure everybody has a say and
we try multiple ideas to ensure we have tested what works best.
Furthermore, last year there were slight issues with members of the team uploading on time. Although we
had a schedule and planner for posts to keep us in check, on occasion we are aware we slipped behind. This
year we all have to focus on being efficient and meeting deadlines. We will allocate one person to take
charge of this, and set a realistic amount of work for everyone to complete each week.
7. Editing…
In terms of editing, we didn’t have many major issues or conflicts. Everything we shot happened to
come together really well. It was also shown that it was very fitting to the music we chose.
However, after allocating our strongest member in the group to edit and cut all the shots together,
we sat down as a group to discuss whether or not we agreed on the outcome, as well as what we
thought worked and what we thought didn’t.
Ultimately, we all came to the same decision and put into effect what we discussed. As a whole
team we decided that the font needed to be changed, as well as the introduction to our company
name, as it didn’t really feel fitting, and was therefore presented to be mis-jointed.
After this, we tried a variety of fonts until we all settled on a final decision – as well as the
appearance and placements of titles etc. However, although we all settled on this as a final cut for
our thriller opening, there were still improvements that we could’ve made. Again, I still don’t think
the font size and type was perhaps correct for what we were trying to achieve, and this year I would
put a bit more focus onto this as a group.
Although, in saying this we cannot take away the appreciation we have given ourselves in the final
outcome, as the editing was ultimately as a whole done very well.
8. Opportunities…
Within the group, we have many opportunities that we can take this year. Firstly we are able to take on a new genre of
video, which for us is something we look forward to – due to the new experiments and skills we can use.
We also have a new group which opens the opportunity to new skills and work ethics from each member. We also have a
smaller group of three as appose to four this year, which effectively stops us from a bigger difference in opinion or a clash in
ideas. It gives us the opportunity to work differently, and hopefully better in the way that we do.
Threats…
This year, we could be left with some threats and issues we must face within the group of which we will have to come. For
example, we must take into account the time of year we will be filming. This is because the weather will determine lighting
(become dark and dull) and things like rain and snow are always a possibility. We will have to make a decision on what
‘storyline’ we want to base this video on – and if this kind of ‘setting’ follows this. If it doesn’t then we have to focus on the
filming earlier on this year, as soon the days will not be as bright and the weather will become unpredictable.
Furthermore, ‘laziness’ of certain members within the group will effectively cause us to fall behind on work. However, we
have decided to make a plan for organisation which will hopefully prevent this taking place.
We also have to take into account the availability of group members, as with completely different schedules it can become
hard to organise to meet up. Because of this, we have to try our best to manage our time well, and find the best,
convenient and most appropriate times to work and film.
