Developed for consultation with EuFMD SEE Management Meeting (February
2021)
Provides for standardization in engaging national stakeholders’ network
Sets the platform for:
Regular use of science and research in policy and decision-making during emergency and non-emergency
time) for FAST diseases contingency and strategic planning and implementation
A Regional approach in engaging national stakeholders’ network
Disseminate to EuFMD SEE member nations for feedback (March 2021)
Prepare a final document for EuFMD SEE MM endorsement (June 2021)

6 FAST (FMD, PPR, LSD, SGP, BEF and RVF) diseases –
results:
FMD and LSD - all participating countries have
operational manuals (OM) and SOPs/procedures in
place;
PPR, SGP and RVF – two (EU) countries have OMs
and SOPs in place;
BEF - none of participating countries have OMs or
any other disease specific SOP!
Main survey results – diseases
(response rate 50% );
13. 3
SEE Management meeting, February 2021
Specific guidelines/SOPs most countries are missing for all diseases:
Post – mortem examination;
Reporting disease internationally;
Establishing geographical location of outbreaks (e.g. GPS and/or physical maps);
Procedures for each available carcasses disposal method;
Public – private partnership.
Main survey results – SOPs/procedures
Other sources – simulation exercises, missing SOPs:
- disinfection protocol for premises, equipment, vehicles, clothes, products and other;
- Veterinary stations (private) missing their own internal procedures for dealing with crises and animal health
emergencies in order to implement measures effectively;
- No Operational manual for PPR.

SEE Management meeting, February 2021
Survey link is still active, just let us know you participated;
Workplan for specific In-country assistance will be produced;
We will use simulation exercises to identify other areas where support is needed;
Except written documents and procedures, we will work on collection, preparation
and sharing of other useful materials for FAST disease emergency preparedness and
training (such as tutorial materials, video, PPTs, documents, forms)
THANK YOU!

Training activities
1. Virtual workshop “Improved FMDV detection and typing using molecular tools”
- 2 half-days event (30 November and 04 December), in collaboration with FMD EU-RL (ANSES)
- 13 participants from 7 national laboratories, with experience in
PCR and sequencing
- Training objectives:
- improved knowledge on referent molecular methods for
FMDV typing
- tools for sequence data analysis
- use of obtained sequence data in the context of improved
disease control
2. Virtual workshop “Laboratory contingency planning”
- Scheduled for 11 – 12 March; calls for nominations will be distributed very soon
- Training objective: improve knowledge on lab contingency planning and contribute to development of LCPs.

PTS update
- summary of PTS-2020 results
All participating laboratories communicated their results with EURL (only 1 SEE country did not participate)
Support in reagents was beneficial for maintaining and use of various methods (PCR, ELISAs)
1. FMD virus detection methods:
- 9/11 laboratories fully conform – improvement compared to last year (7/11)
2. FMD antibody detection methods:
- 7/11 fully conform (same as last year); problems with interpretation (infected/vaccinated), not with
the testing procedure
- Overall, the results were good, considering the PT was more complex this year

PTS update - next steps
PT2020 follow up:
- Trainings will be organized in collaboration with EURL, specifically tailored to address the difficulties
faced
- Organization of postponed face-2-face trainings at EURL, if possible this summer
2021 plans:
- survey to assess the needs and provide essential reagents for PTS, where needed (March - June)
- Inclusion of specific PT samples for laboratories which participated in the last years’ v-workshop (to
assess the impact of the ws)
