Domestic violence affects a significant portion of the population. Approximately 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. It accounts for 16% of violent crimes but is severely underreported. Survivors often suffer long-term mental health effects like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder long after leaving the abusive situation. Emotional abuse can be even more damaging and take longer to recover from than physical abuse. Domestic violence can impact anyone regardless of gender or relationship status.
