There are several methods that can help people quit smoking, including going "cold turkey" by stopping smoking all at once through willpower alone or chewing gum to take one's mind off cigarettes. Knowing the health reasons for quitting, keeping a positive mindset through encouragement, avoiding alcohol and stress, using nicotine replacement gum, and preventing youth smoking can all aid in stopping smoking and its dangerous effects.

1. Methods of quitting smoking
Smoking is a bad habit that is almost impossible for most people around
the world to quit. Smoking is very dangerous and can cause deadly
diseases such as lung cancer and gum disease. Around every 8 seconds,
a person dies from smoking. There are some methods that people can use
to stop smoking such as the cold turkey method which is when you stop
smoking all at once and rely on your determination to try not to smoke and
you can also chew gum which takes your mind off of smoking cigarettes.
Using some of these methods can help prevent you from dying a painful
death.
First of all, you need to know why you are quitting. If you do not know the
reason why you are quitting, there is no point of trying. Know that smoking
can shorten your life span by several years. In a scientific study, it was
shown that the number of people who die from smoking was larger than the
total number of deaths caused by breast cancer, AIDS, car accidents and
addiction to drugs.
Next, keep positive thoughts. If you encourage yourself, you will have a
greater determination to quit smoking. If you use the cold turkey method,
you will have to encourage yourself to keep trying harder and harder
because not alot of people can stop a habit at once. In some cases,
mothers or fathers with newborn babies will have a greater determination
to quit smoking because they know that second-hand smoking is bad for
their child.
You can also stop drinking alcohol. In some cases, alcohol strengthens
your desire of wanting to smoke. Cold water is as refreshing as a can of
beer and is much healthier. You can also relax and meditate. Stress is
often a cause for smoking and so if you relieve yourself of stress it might
help lowering the amount of cigarettes you smoke everyday.
Sometimes, you can chew nicotine stopping gum which contains low
levels of nicotine and slowly sends nicotine to your brain. Your brain adjusts
to the low levels of nicotine and soon your body doesn't need anymore
nicotine. This method has been proved to be very efficient and many
people have quit smoking thanks to it.

2. Also, think of how many people will die because of your habit of smoking.
Secondhand smoking is one of the leading causes of deaths in the US.
Around 126 million Americans are exposed to secondhand smoking and
about 25% of kids aged 3-11 years old in the US, are directly exposed to
secondhand smoking by their parents.
Finally, if you know that smoking is bad for you, you shouldn't do it in the
first place. Over 40% of kids under the age of 18 smoke and some do it
because of peer pressure. Around 38% of the 40% of kids start smoking
because of peer pressure. After a while, they get hooked on the drug and
have to smoke it everyday. If you stop yourself from smoking in the first
place, you can prevent yourself from receiving the horrifying, deadly
diseases that cigarettes can give you.
