1. Penelope
EXT. DAY - STREET
A quiet road in the suburbs, Penelope walking along the road
on her way home from school with her friend, her friend and
her depart from each other as they reach her house and
Penelope carries on walking home on her own.
FRIEND
“Bye Penelope! See you tomorrow!”
PENELOPE
“See you!”
Penelope carries on walking home by herself, carrying her
schoolbooks, she looks happy, not much background noise other
than a dog barking and the crunching of leaves.
She enters the alleyway she usually avoids, and she picks up
her pace. She is getting frightened because there is nobody
around her, she starts to run, she dropped all her artwork
she was carrying from school.
The alleyway has tall concrete walls either side covered in
moss and ivy, there is woodland surrounding it.
A tall, manly figure comes up behind her.
MAN, WITH BALACLAVA
(muffled voice)
“Stay right where you are…
or you will be sorry”
Aggressively, he empties her school bag onto the floor and
picks up anything valuable, her phone, purse and he took her
student ID. Penelope stays on the ground with her hands
raised above her, quivering.
PENELOPE
(crying)
“Please don’t hurt me, ill
do anything what do you
want from me”
2. MAN, WITH BALACLAVA
“I said don’t move,
useless girl.”
Still rummaging through Penelope’s bag, he begins getting
angry as she does have what he is looking for.
Penelope is whimpering, the man forcefully strikes her in the
head leaving her unconscious to stop her from crying and
drawing attention. He begins to look flustered and stars to
drag her across the alleyway. There are no other people
around but there is the dog, it is continuously and
aggressively barking at him.
MAN, WITH BALACLAVA
(flustered)
“Come on girl,
let’s get you home”
we know that he did not mean her family home, he was taking
her with him. Once they reach the end of the alleyway, the
man is carrying Penelope like a baby over his shoulder, he
looked around to see if anybody was around, when it is clear
he places her in the boot underneath a blanket.
INT. DAY – CAR
They have started to drive off at a fast pace. There are lots
of people around now, but the camera is focussed on the man
with the balaclava’s eyes through the windscreen mirror.
MAN, WITH BALACLAVA
(smirking)
“you’re safe and sound
now with me”.
INT. DAY – NEWS REPORTING STUDIO
There is a man and a lady sitting in front of a desk on the
news show, shown as it would be on TV
3. REPORTER (!)
“a tragedy occurs on Wallington street
when Penelope Granger has been reported
being forced into the back of a car at
approximately 5:00 yesterday evening.
This is such a sad time for her family
and the community. We would be
thankful if any trace of her belongings
is reported back to us immediately so
we can have more hope of finding Penelope.”
There is a photo of Penelope being held up in the clothes she
was wearing on that day- her school uniform.
REPORTER (2)
“we have not yet identified the defendant,
he has been caught on CCTV however
and is known to have a slender figure,
around 6’3 and dressed in all black,
with a balaclava over his face.”
INT. DAY - LIVING ROOM
Plain room with not much life to it, a nuclear family: mum
dad, brother and Penelope would be the sister, but she is not
there. they are all distraught but also look emotionless as
they are in so much shock, they are watching their daughter’s
missing case on the TV in front of them. The TV is not in the
shot just Penelope’s family. They are sat on a sofa and the
mother is holding a picture of Penelope tight staring at it
while listening to the news on TV.
BROTHER:
(whimpering)
“when is she going to be home
Mummy?”
4. MOTHER:
(snaps)
“I don’t know okay”
FATHER:
(soothing tone)
“don’t worry son, mum is upset,
she didn’t mean that, she will be
home before we know it don’t you worry”
The father places his hand on his Son’s shoulder for comfort,
but he just swipes it off. They are all transfixed to the
television.
REPORTER (2):
(muffled, background noise)
“this will be the biggest search in
Hobblesdown in history, it is almost like
she has vanished into thin air. We have
decided to give an £1000 reward to
anybody who comes forward with any
leading evidence.”
The family are slumped on the sofa all looking hopeless. They
look broken and nobody says a word.
INT. DAY - KITCHEN
Mother is thinking back to the last time she saw her
daughter. In the kitchen, all family members are there
frantically getting ready for school and work. This resembles
how the day Penelope went missing was just a normal day. The
kitchen was quite messy. Penelope was smiling and positive
like the rest of their family.
PENELOPE:
“Bye Mummy! See you after school”
MOTHER:
“see you later darling I love you”
5. PENELOPE:
“I love you too mum! Bye!”
The camera focusses on the mother’s face and then goes
forward in time, back to her watching the news.
