2. Over view
• The plot of this story will be about a girl getting kidnapped on her way home from school
• I am creating an opening sequence to a feature film therefore I wanted something dramatic to
happen at the very start so that the audience will be engaged throughout and want to watch the
rest of the film.
• The kidnap will happen within the first minute of the opening sequence so that I can focus on
the tension it draws afterwards and emphasize it by involving news reporters and the missing
girl’s family too
• I am aiming for this to end on a cliff hanger as it is an opening sequence and leave the audience
to interpret what will happen next.
• This film is hopefully going to have an emotional affect on the reader an mke them feel
engrossed and have empathy towards the characters.

3. Characters
• Penelope: she is the main character in my opening sequence, she is around 15 years old and has a bubbly and
positive aura about her.
• Penelope’s friend: she does not play a big role her main purpose is to bring out Penelope's character and
emphasize the fact that she is positive by showing her relationships with the people around her
• Penelope’s family: they play a similar role to her friend. Their purpose is to emphasize Penelope’s personality
and positivity. They are loving and caring towards her but when they are shown in my opening sequence,
they will be upset which shows their relationship with Penelope too as they are grieving her loss.
• News reporters: they are self explanatory they are typical news reporters and are just in place to feed the
audience facts and convey the seriousness of the kidnap.
• Man in the balaclava: this character’s personality will contrast with Penelope's they are in a lot of scenes
together. He is overly intimidating and negative where Penelope is the opposite and they bounce off each
other throughout.

4. Themes
• This film will be in the drama genre but with a dark twist on it.
• A lot of the scenes will be dark portraying pathetic fallacy to set the mood of the
film.
• It will be raining for a lot of it and I am hoping to time the day light and evening in
time with the positive and negative parts of the film.
• For example, when Penelope is walking up to getting kidnapped it will be getting
dark which portrays that she is walking towards something bad happening.
• There will be many different themes of emotion such as: innocence, joy, grief,
tension.

5. Visual style
• My film is a mix between body language, dialogue, caera shots conveying
different things and facial expressions
• I am going to change the pace of the camera shots changing and the speed
of the camera movement depending on building tension.
• Hopefully, I will be able to include a dolly zoom within my film as I think it
is an affective technique when building tension or focusing on a character.

6. Sound
• My opening sequence involves quite a lot of dialogue
• The sound affects will be quite important too especially when Penelope is
walking down the alleyway as I am going to focus on each of her senses and
involve sound affects accordingly, for example the crunching of the leaves as
she walks, the dog barking in the alleyway will both draw tension and fir my
theme very will
• On some parts I will involve subtle ambient music behind to avoid
unnecessary silences.

7. Target audience
• My target audience is quite broad but from research I have found that people
aged 16-30 is the audience which are generally interested in the drama genre
so that is what I am aiming my opening sequence towards
• My characters are also all around that age therefore those watching may be
able to relate to them more
