IS MECHANICAL ENGINEERING THE RIGHT
CHOICE FOR YOU?
2
One must keep in mind that being one of the most favoured options, it doesn’t
automatically guarantee success. After the degree, your interest and passion will
drive your performance. Your soft skills must complement the hard skills that you
will acquire in Mechanical Engineering.
With the plenty of options available, how do you figure out if
Mechanical Engineering is the right choice for you?
It is a rigorous program, and students who take up Mechanical without much
thought and proper planning end up feeling like their undergraduate years went
in vain. Hence, we recommend that you research your options thoroughly before
making your decision. You can consider taking internships, informational
interviews with industry experts and talking to alumni of the institute, which will
also help you figure out.
Remember, the goal is not to go
after the best career. It is to
pursue the career option that is
best for you.

What is Mechanical Engineering?
One of the most diverse and versatile engineering fields, mechanical engineering is
the study of objects and systems in motion. As such, the field of mechanical
engineering touches virtually every aspect of modern life, including the human body,
a highly complex machine.
Sensor and Actuators
Simulation
3D Printing
Collaboration with other fields
WHERE MECHANICAL ENGINEERS WORK
5
► Mechanical Engineering deals with research, design,
development, manufacturing, Construction, Installation,
operation and maintenance of engineering systems, machinery,
equipment, tools, devices, components etc.
► The demand for Mechanical engineers is increasing year by year
beyond boundaries and there are great opportunities for
Mechanical engineers to work in different engineering sectors.
 Mechanical Engineering will lead you into one of broadest area
engineering. There are job for Mechanical Engineer in nearly
every area of industry.

FRESHER'S –IF YOU ARE WILLING TO DO CORE JOB
11
Options:
► Masters : Go for higher study (Locally or abroad).
► Government Job: You need to start preparation for FPSC / NTS and
other testing services for government jobs.
► Private Job:
 To get experience you can do internships.
 Get good hold of important designing and analysis engineering
software's like Solidworks, Auto-CAD , PDMS, P&IDs, SP3D, Ansys,
Primavera (If you do certification courses, even better).
 It is also better if you do any certification in Quality tools. Pimavera,
IOSH or NEBOSH.
 Learn at least basic production process, manufacturing process.
 Try to improve communication skills.
WHY DON’T COMPANIES RECRUIT FRESHER
MECHANICAL ENGINEERS???
12
This question often strike in minds of Fresher's . We also thought a lot
about it and then reached a conclusion which may be right or wrong.
Suppose any Oil & gas company need employees in company and they
have two options in which the first one is a fresher who is unaware of
the work culture , has only theoretical knowledge and almost unskilled
in a particular domain. Now the second one who is skilled and have
practical knowledge who can yield more profit to the organization .
Now to whom will they go for ???
Being a company will they think about the Freshers career or about
their profit . But one thing is true if you are skilled enough then you will
get a job for sure.
