Mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, development, and manufacture of machines. Mechanical engineers study how materials behave under forces and stresses, and use this knowledge to design tools, engines, vehicles, heating and cooling systems, and other machinery. They are involved in all aspects of energy production and conversion. Mechanical engineers use mathematics and science to solve problems, and are expected to constantly improve designs. They may work in research and development, manufacturing, maintenance, technical sales, administration, or management. The field covers a broad range of industries and specializations.
