for me. I also really appreciate the information on the reading strategies, particularly the first paper on
strategies that work, because again, it simplifies the concepts for me. That combined with the 12

This was the tab section that I was most disappointed with, I know that I did learn new concepts, but
we went through it all so quickly that I struggle to remember it all. Learning the simplicity of the mini
lesson for writer s workshop was great, and I really loved all of the information from the packet on
charts from launching the writing workshop. Again, this is all really new information. Other than any
overlap from the textbooks, it was all completely new! I would like to learn a lot more about writing,
it would be nice to see more examples of mini lessons and how to address each aspect of the writing
workshop, via mini lessons. However, I do have the internet and youtube to teach me a lot, so that is a
great resource. I am excited to get more practice with writing workshop mini lessons in our next class,
and to see all of the examples my classmates come up with. Because of the load of information, I am
still sifting through a lot and unsure of specific questions, but I know that I have a lot more reading
and researching to do on this topic.

A Graveyard in Asheville
For this journal review, I have decided to do a graveyard in Asheville which is very well known. The
cemetery Riverside Cemetery has existed since 1885 and was built by the Asheville Cemetery
Company and in 1952 was sold to the City of Asheville. For this review I ll be focusing on the various
styles of graves seen throughout the cemetery, while also emphasizing the meaning of the different
artistic symbols seen. I ll also make sure to note the significant graves and mausoleums that are home
to some of the most descriptive artwork. The graveyard is home to more than 14,000 graves some of
which carry important meanings or information. I believe graveyards are sacred art museums and
while walking through one provides a much different experience, some similarities are important for
us to see.
The City of Asheville s Riverside Cemetery is located in Montford, less than 2 miles from downtown.
It provides over 87 acres of grounds and is a protected tree area. Today the area operates under the
City of Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Looking through the various
headstones, I can see many similarities among the different symbols. Looking past just the symbols
we can see a level of intricate artwork laid down by the art of hand carving and engraving. Hand
carving and engraving headstones is an ancient practice in which artists and craftsmen have formed
extraordinary memorials from pieces of raw stone.

Three to One Doctor Sharing
Coronation, Castor and Consort are small towns in rural Alberta. All three lie along highway 12,
approximately half an hour from each other. These small towns, although quite distant from each other
share one very important thing a doctor on call. This is becoming a more common trend in rural areas
with a decline in health care physicians willing to work in such a secluded area far from amenities.
This means that some days a physician is available in one town for as little as an hour or simply not
present in the hospital at all. Health care is poor to limited for these rural areas, since there are far
more people seeking medical attention than can be properly assisted in a reasonable amount of time.
The availability of medical staff is crucial to the quality of health care provided in a hospital (NRHA).
There is generally a lack of medical staff including physicians and nurses in rural hospitals. Even the
shortage of a single physician is extremely likely to have widespread impacts in a rural community
(NAC 2008).
In order for these rural communities to maintain a positive, functioning health care system, more
physicians and nurses need to be recruited to work in the rural setting. This means encouraging more
health care physicians and staff to choose rural settings to work (NRHA 2003). With all of the definite
downfalls of a rural community, there are many reasons rural communities are struggling to maintain
