2. Introduction
In this presentation we’ll be talking about
the disappearing bees and about what we
can do to save them.

3. Why Bees Are Going Extinct
The bee population has been declining mainly because of industrial agriculture,
pesticides , and climate change. But one of the most dangerous causes for the
bees is insecticides. These are chemicals are designed to kill insects. These
chemicals are widely applied in the environment, mostly around cropland
areas.

4. The Facts
Beekeepers, primarily in the United States and Europe, have been reporting
annual hive losses of 30 percent or above for much of the past ten years. During
the Winter of 2013, many beekeepers of the United States experienced losses of
40 to 50 percent or more. Other than beekeepers, many sources state that 1 of
every 3 bites of food we eat are pollinated by bees.

5. The Effects of The Dying Bee Population
We as humans rely on bees for many things and if they were
to go extinct we would go too.
according to a study conducted by The Lancet, 71
million people would go into a vitamin A deficiency
which would make people unhealthy if there were a
100% decrease in pollinators.
It would harm the food industry and the farmers market if
bees were go extinct too. If there were to be a decrease
in the amount of foods then the cost of food will increase
and that could lead to an increase in poverty.

8. What are we doing to save the bees?
The EPA (the Environmental
Protection Agency) has
created a policy to keep
bees away from dust
applicants and pesticides.
They are also working on
creating a new pesticide that
is less toxic to pollinators.

9. What we should to save the bees?
1. We could save bees by not using harmful plants to feed them,
like frigidus, and herbicides. Make sure you do not pre-treat
with neonics pesticides.
2. Buy local & raw honey from your local beekeepers, avoid
honey sold in supermarkets unless you are sure the honey
you're buying from the supermarket is provenience and quality.
3. Plant your garden with native and bee friendly plants. They
provide great sources of nectar and pollen (both food for the
bees and butterflies). It’s important for bees as it is for us, to
have a diverse and regular food supply.

10. The Bee Fest! Bee there!
We’re going to have a Bee Fest here at Glasgow for the very first time
on May 25th after school. For those who don’t know what a Bee Fest
Is, it is an event where everything is about bees. For our Bee Fest
we’re going to have foods that bees help produce and possibly have a
bee keeper come and talk all about bees. We hope to see you there!

If the worldwide population of pollinators
continues to decline, we humans might or
will face death, disease, and health
issues.
