We Must Stop Animal Research and Animal Testing Essay
What if I told you that more than 100 million animals are killed each year due to animal
testing? What if I told you that these animals are burned, crippled, abused and poisoned
on a regular basis? What if I told you that in order to obtain your favorite shampoo, hand
sanitizer, lotion, etc. that innocent animals must be tortured? Throughout history animal
research and experimentation has played a key role in scientific benefit and discovery.
Even I cannot deny the numerous medical breakthroughs that have been founded using
animals as test subjects; however, this does not excuse the physical and emotional
persecution these poor animals must endure. Animal testingshould be illegal. The use of
animals in testing facilities is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oftentimes these chemicals are left there for days and these rabbits suffer with no relief.
For skin irritancy tests the animals are detained and chemicals, like perfume/cologne, are
placed on a patch of shaved skin ( Blinded ). These tests may sound harmless, but in
reality they cause great damage to the participants. Common side effects of such
experiments include but are not limited to, redness, bleeding, ulcers, burning and
blindness. These animals are in constant pain to test products not intended for their use.
As horrifying as that mental picture may have been, I realize that there can be no solution
without an alternative and luckily there are. EpiDerm testing uses reconstructed human
epidermal to test how chemicals will react to actual human skin. According to
mattek.com, This procedure [EpiDerm] can be used as full replacement of the in vivo
rabbit skin irritation test for hazard identification and labeling of chemicals. Basically
this test is just as effective as using rabbits and no one is harmed. Bovine Corneal
Opacity can also replace the Draize eye test. For this test the eye of a slaughtered meat
animal is used to assess how one might react if chemicals entered the eye. Many people
question the validity of this alternative because of their skepticism on how the eye of a
dead animal could provide accurate results, but fortunately it does. Tests to assess the

Hawthorne Birthmark
The Birth mark was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in March of 1843.
The story begins by introducing the audience to Aylmer, a man of science, and how he
leaves his laboratory to become a husband for his wife Georgiana. The story then leads
to a few days after their marriage where Aylmer questions his wife if she ever thought
of getting rid of her birthmark. Georgiana had a birthmark on her check that looked
like a hand of a fairy. Georgiana responded that she had always viewed the birthmark as
a positive trait for her, to which Aylmer responds yes, the birthmark would be a beautiful
charm for other people except on her because it ruined her beauty. To which Georgiana
responds Shocks you, my husband! You cannot love what shocks... Show more content on

In the story the limit that was broken by Aylmer was that he tried to become a god
essentially and try to change the birthmark that Georgianna was born with which was
to go against nature and change what did not needed to be changed. Georgiana had
been born with a very particular mark in her face and she had learned to live with it.
Aylmer did not like it because he felt it was an imperfection in her perfect beauty. A lot
of people think the same way today and that is the main reason why they decide to
take risks with their so call imperfections just as Aylmer did with his wife. In many of
the times, the results are tragic and people die just as Georgiana did in this story.
Aylmer made her feel so uncomfortable with her appearance due to the birthmark that
she eventually began to hate it as well. God created us so perfectly that there should
not be a reason to alter our looks just to please the people arounds us. Those who truly
love us should learn to love us with our qualities and imperfections. That is how God
intended for humans to see and love one
Current Trends On The Golf Industry
Ever since I was a young boy, sports were my passion. No matter the sport, I wanted to
always stay up to date with breaking news, technology trends, live action, and be
involved in any way shape or form. After picking up golf at a young age, it didn t take
me long to focus most of my time on the sport of golf. My dad, brother, and I got into the
sport around the same time and have never looked back. We were instantly hooked
with the satisfaction you felt when hitting the perfect shot and the amount of mental
strength it took to compete at a high level. With my golf career coming to an end after
the next semester, there is no other industry I want to work in but the golf industry.
All of my knowledge and drive to work are in the industry of golf. My paper will
outline the current trends going on in the golf industry, how the industry organizes
itself, who the industry organizes it self around, and how to properly prepare to work
in the organization. I will then touch on the company I am working for and the
interview I did with my co worker, Jacy Jackson, a business developer at my dream job,
18Birdies. He touches on how he got involved in the golf industry, the training and
education needed to strive in the industry, and goals set forth to help the company of
18Birdies grow.
Industry Trends The golf industry has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900 s,
where golfers played with wooden clubs and millennials picked up the game with ease.

Allegory and Truman Show
Allegory and Truman Show
The Allegory of the Cave has many parallels with The Truman Show. Initially, Truman
is trapped in his own cave ; a film set or fictional island known as Seahaven. Truman s
journey or ascension into the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato s
cave dweller. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities along with the very intent of
both of these works whose purpose is for us to question our own reality.
In his Allegory Plato shows us how a man ascends from the darkness of a cave to the
light of the outside world. In this ascent Plato s man passes through four distinct stages of
cognition: from imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge.
Imagination
In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his reality is now based on these objects vs. what is truly real. In Truman s
second phase he starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on
his perception and his common sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of
the show years earlier sneaks back onto the set. This sends Truman into a teenage
flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had tried to tell him the
truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following him
around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know
what is wrong but he knows he is onto something big as he tells his best friend Marlon.
Understanding
Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman sees the light and begins to
understand what is really happening. Like with Plato s cave dweller the process of
understanding is a slow one. He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the
upper world. And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other
objects in the water, and then the objects themselves... In the same way Truman s accent
into understanding was a slow process. The scene where he notices that his wife is
crossing her fingers in one of their wedding pictures is that crucial moment. From that
point on we get the feeling that he has gone from assuming there was something wrong to

Boyle s film Slumdog Millionaire came out at the end of 2008, people instantly fell in
love with it. In 2009 it was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won eight, which
was the most won by any film that year. Everyone seemed to be very drawn to the feel

that Jamal also escapes his fate of living a life of poverty only gives a somewhat false
sense of hope to people in this situation for the movies viewers and helps to massage

talks about how the movie plays on our false sense of cultural reality in India, she
quotes the Mumbai Mirror about how the term slumdog is not a term that is widely

poor Dharavi kid in a derogatory way. The use of this coined and somewhat derogatory
term only helps in supporting the sense of western dominance over the east by
classifying Jamal and many people in similar socioeconomic situation as slumdogs. The
authors are both very much in agreement on their theory that one reason Slumdog
Millionaire was so popular was because of a combination of ignorance in the targeted
westernized audience towards the
Describe The American River Basin
Study Area Description
The American River is a prime example of a multiple use, water resource system. It is
the second biggest tributary to the Sacramento River, a basic part of the San Francisco
Inlet/Sacramento San Joaquin Delta framework Its basin covers 2,163 mi2 of the
western slope of the central Sierra Nevada (fig. 1) east of Sacramento, California. This
complicated system consists of three major parts the North and Middle Forks, the South
Fork, and the Lower American River downstream from Folsom Lake (fig. 1). These
major forks and Folsom Lake represent a natural and modified system of streams and
impoundments designed to meet the recreational and water supply needs of many
Californians.
The American River basin is generally mountainous except for the small valley area on
the west end between the Sacramento River and Folsom Lake. Altitudes range from
about 5 ft near the confluence with the Sacramento River to 10,380 ft at Round Top
Mountain, which overlooks the Silver Fork American River in the southeast corner of
the basin. Basin characteristics for each sub watershed of the river upstream from
Folsom Lake are shown in Table 1. The drainage density and basin order, which are

Summers are typically very warm and dry; winters are cool and wet. The influence of
the Pacific Ocean is felt during the winter as strong flows of marine air move over the
area, bringing heavy precipitation, particularly at intermediate levels in the mountains.
Precipitation amounts range from about 16 inches per year at Sacramento to more than
70 inches per year near Echo Summit in the upper basin. With the snowline at 5,000 ft
above sea level, about 55 percent of the basin is covered with snow. Approximately 35 to
75 percent of the precipitation occurring above this elevation falls as snow, creating a
much needed supply of water which lasts into the summer (California Department of

What Is The Role Of A Father Figure In Extremely Loud And...
Since the beginning of mankind, parents are the ones who take care of their children. It
is their responsibility to nurture them and guide them through life. In Jhumpa Lahiri s
novel The Namesake and Jonathan Foer s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the
father figure plays a significant role in mentoring their son, but ultimately it is their own
perspective that guides them the rest of the way. Yet both author s approach at
expressing this are both different and the same. The lack of a father figure has a
significantly different effect on one s youthful mind than if the father were with them
every step of the way. Through the use of perspective and tragedy, both Lahiri and Foer
convey the same message from two very different stories.

In Lahiri s novel The Namesake, she takes a different approach on family than Foer.
Focusing more on the cultural aspects, Gogol questions his beliefs and background.
Contrary to Oskar, Gogol has a father who is there for him all throughout his childhood
and adolescent. It is because of this that Gogol does not have the same feelings as
Oskar did for his. He always viewed his dad as an annoyance, amplified by the fact that
they have cultural behaviours that Gogol does not approve of. During Ashoke s
lifetime, he nurtured and cared for Gogol like any father would. However, Gogol did
not have the same influence from his father like Oskar. He shied away from his
parents and cultural background, evident from when he was dating Maxine. It got to
the point where he did not want anything to do with his parents in his own life. As
Judith Caesar commented on Lahiri s novel, Gogol s unhappiness may not come from
the problems of being bi cultural, precisely, but from his own limited self understand
and his rational impulse to see alternative selves as binary and mutually exclusive
(Caesar). Being young, Gogol is influenced by the other cultural backgrounds that he
sees. This ultimately led to his confusion and self doubt. Unlike Oskar s goal of trying
to understand his father, Gogol is the opposite. He tries everything he can to not be like
his dad. However, as the story continues, He discovers his
Analysis of Smash Hits Essay
Analysis of Smash Hits Smash Hits sells itself as a popular music magazine; it fits well
into this self proclaimed genre and creates its image through the codes, conventions, and
generic signifiers of that genre. For example, bright, bold lettering the red and white

magazine and its audience, the audience use genre as a means of segmenting and

All three covers examined are very similar in both style and content, each with an
almost identical layout. Whatever changes that do appear are few and subtle. Audiences
not only influence, but also have the ability to control the magazine and its style. This
layout and formula obviously works, and so it must continue in order to meet audience
expectations and, in turn, maintain sales profit is king . In relation to representation, the
magazine knows exactly who its target audience is, and gives clues to this by the
submission or omission of people, races, cultures and lifestyles. The magazine includes,
white, young and childish pop stars with perfect bodies and immature behaviour. These
impossible templates of beauty appeal to the young, teenage, white, middle class,
heterosexual audience as they seem to admire and relate to those featured in the pages
of Smash Hits . Smash Hits is a mid price magazine, at ВЈ1.25. It is affordable without
being too cheap. The language of the magazine is obviously targeted at a younger,
possibly less intelligent audience. It adopts a highly colloquial register and avoids both
complicated lexis and syntax, it tries to be inclusive of the reader s thoughts and
opinions, addressing them directly, and speaking in the first person. It uses subject
specific words and jargon to create an
Free-Radical Chain Reaction Lab Report
Free radical chain reactions involve the formation of halides and alkyl halides by reacting
diatomic halogens with reactive hydrogens attached to hydrocarbons. In this experiment,
diatomic bromine was reacted with various arenes to produce hydrobromic acid and alkyl
halides. The mechanism behind this reaction can be characterized by three distinct
phases: initiation, propagation, and termination. During the initiation step, bromine
radicals are produced via thermal or photochemical homolysis. These bromine radicals
then react with hydrogens attached to a hydrocarbon in the propagation step to produce
hydrobromic acid and a carbon radical. The chain reaction continues since the carbon
radical formed can react with another diatomic bromine molecule, producing a carbon
bromine bond and regenerating a bromine radical. The termination step ends the reaction
by reacting two bromine radicals with each other, lowering the concentration of highly
reactive bromine radicals in solution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when propane and diatomic bromine are reacted together, a 3:97 ratio of
primary alkyl halide to secondary alkyl halide is produced. In contrast, when propane and
diatomic chlorine are reacted together, a theoretical 3:1 ratio of primary alkyl halide to
secondary alkyl halide is produced; experimentally, the ratio is closer to 45:55. Thus, it
was determined that diatomic bromine was better suited to examine the reaction rates of

The Slavery Of African Slave Trade
When we are so caught up in the moment it is hard to see the larger picture. We get
excited and momentum starts to speed up, but this excitement and momentum blinds us
from the feelings of others. This is exactly what happened with the practiced slavery that
took place in Africa. Slavery included stripping humans of their identities and classifying
them as property, forcing them to obey their masters. The slaves had no rights and
humanity had fled their thinking. Some even claimed slaves to be aliens even though
they were not. Slave s masters could do what ever they pleased with the slaves including,
making them do their dirty work, striking them whenever they pleased and abusing their
slave sexually. The slave had no defense and responding to any violent act committed
against them would amplify aggression causing the master to strike the perpetrator. The
idea of someone taking complete control over another equal human makes many sick and
today this is viewed as something terrible, unjust, unethical and corrupt. The African
slave trade should not have been something looked to as socially or morally acceptable.
It crushed lives by stripping them from their freedom and replacing them with violence, it
brought sorrow to families in the separation and destruction process and it brought lose to
basic human rights. As humans we tend to get caught up in this daily routine that is not
necessarily a bad thing. Some people get caught in this and succeed. But now imagine

Benefits Of Fast Food Essay
Somer Dieffenbach
Professor Chelsea Plunkett
English 1101
15 October 2017
Eating Healthy is too Expensive? In today s society there is more fast food than ever
and easier access towards the high cholesterol foods rather than the heart healthy
foods. You may ask why? Well the low fat, wheat, veggies, or other healthy foods are
far more expensive than just grabbing a quick bite at Chick Fil A or Cookout. This
conflict between whether or not to spend a fortune on food so you can look good or
be healthy has been debated for decades. Do the brands, who are much less fattening,
have the right to up charge so much and why? People all the time state this false quote,
Healthy foods don t cost more than unhealthy ones. For example, if you go to an all
organic grocery store, like Trader Joe s, you will walk out spending much more than
going to a regular grocery store and buying the usual not low fat foods. A can of soda and
an apple have roughly the same number of calories (~120). While a large apple costs
about $1, a can of soda sells for $0.50 to $0.75. You may be shocked by this fact, but
today s society is messed up with nutrition. One major group that is affected by this
situation are mothers who are trying to raise a family in a healthy way and teach them
good eating habits, but they soon realize that it decreases their bank account drastically
and they go back to the quick and fast meals. Part of the problem with healthy foods
being so expensive is the definition of price.
Family Car Research Paper
I used my family car Saturn Vue 2008 for this project. In the first part, I learned
different parts of the car and how to use them. The car has automatic transmission. Its
gears are located on the center console between two front seats. You can identify them
by a position of the stick and by letters on it, that show types of gears. When you start
the vehicle you can use parking or neutral gears. You should enter the key into ignition
with wide side up. My key was metal with plastic holder. The key could be different:
shorter or longer. There is also parking brake, which located to the right of the driver s
seat. If you don t want your vehicle to move, you should firmly set it, by holding the
brake pedal down, and pull up on the parking brake lever. To release it, press the release
button of the parking brake and push it down. My car has... Show more content on

Next things I ve learned were vehicle controls and devices. The turn signal lever is
located on the instrument panel, behind the wheel on the left side. If the lever is up you
turn right. If it is down, you turn left. The car has power door locks, automatic door
lock, and rear door security locks. The hazard flashers are located in the front and rear
turn signal lamps, which you use to warn the police and others that you have a problem.
Inside, when you activate flashers, two green arrows appear on the instrument panel and
start flashing with a clicking sound. Outside, when you activate hazard flashers, front
and rear lights start blinking. The hood release is located under the steering wheel on the
left, and to use it from the inside you should pull the release button. To unlatch the hood
on my car pull the handle with hood release symbol under the instrument panel on the

This shows us that, the administrative authorities practice or perform functions of
legislature and judiciary: this is so because of the impossibility in having rigid form of
separation of powers due to complexity of modern conditions. Generally, for
administrative authority or executive to function well, it needs legislative powers in
order to make rules on how to enforce law and also judicial powers to decide on their
own merits. That is why the delegation of quasi legislative and quasi judicial functions to
a number of administrative authorities and tribunals has become unavoidable. 1. Useful
of the Study
Tanzania is a democratic and socialist state which adheres to multi party democracy[5],
governed with democratic government based on the basic constitutional principles[6],
therefore, this study will be useful in examining the boundaries of judicial review and
indicate clear whether the government of the United Republic of Tanzania, by allowing
the judicial control over administrative actions, generally adhere to the basic
constitutional principles.

After we left Cierce Island of paradise for the second time, Odysseus told us to start

voices luring us to our own death. Cierce also instructed Odysseus to tell the crew
members to tie him up with very strong ropes and not to release him until they got pass
the sirens because Odysseus alone can only hear the voices of the sirens. A short
while later, we arrived at the Sirens Isle. Suddenly all the wind vanish and everything

courage and my ingenious plan, and I think that we shall live to remember this no less.
Now then, attend to my instructions. Keep your seats and row away, Like men, and
then we may hope that Zeus was saved and deliver us out of this danger. Now for you,
steersman s, pay careful heed, for you hold our helm in your hands. Keep her while

The Importance Of Technology And Social Media
Moreover, social media also works as a forum provided by governments to build a
healthy relationship with its citizens while also allowing the government to maintain
control. Before technology and social media become prominent in the mid 2000s,
governments and other state actors did not believe in the benefits it would provide in
terms of development. This changed when the media market became more liberalized
providing more opportunities for countries to gain economic development. Kazakhstan is
an example of a country s governmentusing social media to defy rebellions. Until the
mid 2000 s, only 3% of people in Kazakhstan used the internet. This number had
increased to 54% in 2013 (Niyazbekov, 2017). Kazakhstan s government went online
during the same time and ministers followed Prime Minister Karim Massimov and
started blogging. The aim was to change the public s perceptive of the government being
too bureaucratic and ineffective. After president Nursultan Nazarbayevs address to the
nation in 2004, more portals opened for stateservices. By 2012, Kazakhstan came in 2nd
place in a global rating of citizens e participation denoting ease of access to public
(Niyazbekov, 2017). However, following the Zhanaozen city protests, it signalled to the
government to treat social media sites such as Facebook with caution as it was clear that
it could be used as an effective tool to organize movements. This resulted in the
government tightening the media legislation and cleansing

Ethical Concerns Within Public Research
Ethics
There are few ethical concerns within this research question. Firstly, it may be the case
that the subjects can become distressed due to the sensitive nature of the research
question. If at any point this occurs during the interview, I will switch off the recorder
until the participant is ready to continue; if at all. If a participant wishes to withdraw at
any point during the research, they will be able to do so freely. Each participant will be
provided with a consent form, which they must sign before the study commences. They
will also be provided with a copy of this consent form. Furthermore, a debrief form will
be provided at the end of the research, which will illustrate my contact details. I will
express that they are entirely welcome to contact me at any stage during and after the
research if they have any other questions or concerns.
With this in mind, each participant will be afforded extreme confidentiality and
anonymity throughout the research. I am weary that the definition of confidentiality
and anonymity is a fairly subjective term (Davies et al 2011). Therefore I will make it
implicitly clear, on the consent and the brief form, that all names of each participant
given to myself will be changed for the purposes of the research; regardless whether the
names given were correct names or not. Furthermore, the interview recordings will only
be heard by myself and my supervisor, if required. At the end of the research project all

John Allen resented Poe s desire to write poetry, as he saw it more fit that Poe obtain a
formal education in business and pay closer attention to formulating his plan for a
career (Hutchisson 12). Eventually Poe candidly wrote of his painful difficulties in
life, I have many occasional dealings with Adversity, but the want of parental affection
has been the heaviest of my trials (Ackroyd 13). Equally, Morrison endured an icy and
emotionally distant relationship with his father. Although Morrison followed through
with his father s requests to graduate from college with a degree, the direction in which
Morrison took that degree was not at all what his father had visualized for his son. At
the core of Morrison were a poet and a musician, both of which were unacceptable to
his father (Hopkins 63). Furthermore, Poe and Morrison shared fairly comparable
philosophies on the creation of poetry. On poetry, Poe is quoted as saying A poem in
my opinion, is opposed to a work of science by having for its immediate object,
pleasure, not truth (Hutchisson 27). Poe s philosophy on poetry shows his commitment
to allowing the pleasure principle to act as the force behind the poem instead of
adhering to a rigid standard put in place by others before him. Similarly, in an interview
lead by Richard Goldstein in 1969, Morrison attempts to clarify his thoughts about the
process of writing poetry; he states, when you write a poem often you just, you have to be

  • 2. We Must Stop Animal Research and Animal Testing Essay What if I told you that more than 100 million animals are killed each year due to animal testing? What if I told you that these animals are burned, crippled, abused and poisoned on a regular basis? What if I told you that in order to obtain your favorite shampoo, hand sanitizer, lotion, etc. that innocent animals must be tortured? Throughout history animal research and experimentation has played a key role in scientific benefit and discovery. Even I cannot deny the numerous medical breakthroughs that have been founded using animals as test subjects; however, this does not excuse the physical and emotional persecution these poor animals must endure. Animal testingshould be illegal. The use of animals in testing facilities is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oftentimes these chemicals are left there for days and these rabbits suffer with no relief. For skin irritancy tests the animals are detained and chemicals, like perfume/cologne, are placed on a patch of shaved skin ( Blinded ). These tests may sound harmless, but in reality they cause great damage to the participants. Common side effects of such experiments include but are not limited to, redness, bleeding, ulcers, burning and blindness. These animals are in constant pain to test products not intended for their use. As horrifying as that mental picture may have been, I realize that there can be no solution without an alternative and luckily there are. EpiDerm testing uses reconstructed human epidermal to test how chemicals will react to actual human skin. According to mattek.com, This procedure [EpiDerm] can be used as full replacement of the in vivo rabbit skin irritation test for hazard identification and labeling of chemicals. Basically this test is just as effective as using rabbits and no one is harmed. Bovine Corneal Opacity can also replace the Draize eye test. For this test the eye of a slaughtered meat animal is used to assess how one might react if chemicals entered the eye. Many people question the validity of this alternative because of their skepticism on how the eye of a dead animal could provide accurate results, but fortunately it does. Tests to assess the legitimacy of this
  • 3. Hawthorne Birthmark The Birth mark was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in March of 1843. The story begins by introducing the audience to Aylmer, a man of science, and how he leaves his laboratory to become a husband for his wife Georgiana. The story then leads to a few days after their marriage where Aylmer questions his wife if she ever thought of getting rid of her birthmark. Georgiana had a birthmark on her check that looked like a hand of a fairy. Georgiana responded that she had always viewed the birthmark as a positive trait for her, to which Aylmer responds yes, the birthmark would be a beautiful charm for other people except on her because it ruined her beauty. To which Georgiana responds Shocks you, my husband! You cannot love what shocks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story the limit that was broken by Aylmer was that he tried to become a god essentially and try to change the birthmark that Georgianna was born with which was to go against nature and change what did not needed to be changed. Georgiana had been born with a very particular mark in her face and she had learned to live with it. Aylmer did not like it because he felt it was an imperfection in her perfect beauty. A lot of people think the same way today and that is the main reason why they decide to take risks with their so call imperfections just as Aylmer did with his wife. In many of the times, the results are tragic and people die just as Georgiana did in this story. Aylmer made her feel so uncomfortable with her appearance due to the birthmark that she eventually began to hate it as well. God created us so perfectly that there should not be a reason to alter our looks just to please the people arounds us. Those who truly love us should learn to love us with our qualities and imperfections. That is how God intended for humans to see and love one
  • 4. Current Trends On The Golf Industry Ever since I was a young boy, sports were my passion. No matter the sport, I wanted to always stay up to date with breaking news, technology trends, live action, and be involved in any way shape or form. After picking up golf at a young age, it didn t take me long to focus most of my time on the sport of golf. My dad, brother, and I got into the sport around the same time and have never looked back. We were instantly hooked with the satisfaction you felt when hitting the perfect shot and the amount of mental strength it took to compete at a high level. With my golf career coming to an end after the next semester, there is no other industry I want to work in but the golf industry. All of my knowledge and drive to work are in the industry of golf. My paper will outline the current trends going on in the golf industry, how the industry organizes itself, who the industry organizes it self around, and how to properly prepare to work in the organization. I will then touch on the company I am working for and the interview I did with my co worker, Jacy Jackson, a business developer at my dream job, 18Birdies. He touches on how he got involved in the golf industry, the training and education needed to strive in the industry, and goals set forth to help the company of 18Birdies grow. Industry Trends The golf industry has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900 s, where golfers played with wooden clubs and millennials picked up the game with ease. For so long, the
  • 5. Allegory and Truman Show Allegory and Truman Show The Allegory of the Cave has many parallels with The Truman Show. Initially, Truman is trapped in his own cave ; a film set or fictional island known as Seahaven. Truman s journey or ascension into the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato s cave dweller. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities along with the very intent of both of these works whose purpose is for us to question our own reality. In his Allegory Plato shows us how a man ascends from the darkness of a cave to the light of the outside world. In this ascent Plato s man passes through four distinct stages of cognition: from imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge. Imagination In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, his reality is now based on these objects vs. what is truly real. In Truman s second phase he starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on his perception and his common sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto the set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had tried to tell him the truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know what is wrong but he knows he is onto something big as he tells his best friend Marlon. Understanding Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman sees the light and begins to understand what is really happening. Like with Plato s cave dweller the process of understanding is a slow one. He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves... In the same way Truman s accent into understanding was a slow process. The scene where he notices that his wife is crossing her fingers in one of their wedding pictures is that crucial moment. From that point on we get the feeling that he has gone from assuming there was something wrong to
  • 6. The Use of Poverty Porn in Slumdog Millionaire and Its... Multiple Source Paper Slumdog Millionaire: The Feel Good Movie When Danny Boyle s film Slumdog Millionaire came out at the end of 2008, people instantly fell in love with it. In 2009 it was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won eight, which was the most won by any film that year. Everyone seemed to be very drawn to the feel good aspect of the movie where a poor kid like Jamal, the main character of Boyle s film, can overcome the massive obstacles thrown in front of his path to success and eventually come out with the girl, 100 million Rupees and the love of the nation where he just become an overnight sensation. Slumdog Millionaire , a movie review written by Robert Koehler, and Alice Miles , Shocked by Slumdog s Poverty Porn ,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This sense of being better and more powerful than Eastern countries that is felt in England and the US, leads us to expect social injustices like the ones shown in Slumdog Millionaire are a normal occurrence those living in the third world. The fact that Jamal also escapes his fate of living a life of poverty only gives a somewhat false sense of hope to people in this situation for the movies viewers and helps to massage (Koehler, 454) their view on the harsh reality of a culture they barely know. Miles also talks about how the movie plays on our false sense of cultural reality in India, she quotes the Mumbai Mirror about how the term slumdog is not a term that is widely recognized in India. They explain that, It appears to be a British Invention to describe a poor Dharavi kid in a derogatory way. The use of this coined and somewhat derogatory term only helps in supporting the sense of western dominance over the east by classifying Jamal and many people in similar socioeconomic situation as slumdogs. The authors are both very much in agreement on their theory that one reason Slumdog Millionaire was so popular was because of a combination of ignorance in the targeted westernized audience towards the
  • 7. Describe The American River Basin Study Area Description The American River is a prime example of a multiple use, water resource system. It is the second biggest tributary to the Sacramento River, a basic part of the San Francisco Inlet/Sacramento San Joaquin Delta framework Its basin covers 2,163 mi2 of the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada (fig. 1) east of Sacramento, California. This complicated system consists of three major parts the North and Middle Forks, the South Fork, and the Lower American River downstream from Folsom Lake (fig. 1). These major forks and Folsom Lake represent a natural and modified system of streams and impoundments designed to meet the recreational and water supply needs of many Californians. The American River basin is generally mountainous except for the small valley area on the west end between the Sacramento River and Folsom Lake. Altitudes range from about 5 ft near the confluence with the Sacramento River to 10,380 ft at Round Top Mountain, which overlooks the Silver Fork American River in the southeast corner of the basin. Basin characteristics for each sub watershed of the river upstream from Folsom Lake are shown in Table 1. The drainage density and basin order, which are measures of the ... With the snowline at 5,000 ft above sea level, about 55 percent of the basin is covered with snow. Approximately 35 to 75 percent of the precipitation occurring above this elevation falls as snow, creating a much needed supply of water which lasts into the summer (California Department of Water Resources, 1965, p.
  • 8. What Is The Role Of A Father Figure In Extremely Loud And... Since the beginning of mankind, parents are the ones who take care of their children. It is their responsibility to nurture them and guide them through life. In Jhumpa Lahiri s novel The Namesake and Jonathan Foer s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the father figure plays a significant role in mentoring their son, but ultimately it is their own perspective that guides them the rest of the way. Yet both author s approach at expressing this are both different and the same. The lack of a father figure has a significantly different effect on one s youthful mind than if the father were with them every step of the way. Through the use of perspective and tragedy, both Lahiri and Foer convey the same message from two very different stories. Jonathan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Lahiri s novel The Namesake, she takes a different approach on family than Foer. Focusing more on the cultural aspects, Gogol questions his beliefs and background. Contrary to Oskar, Gogol has a father who is there for him all throughout his childhood and adolescent. It is because of this that Gogol does not have the same feelings as Oskar did for his. He always viewed his dad as an annoyance, amplified by the fact that they have cultural behaviours that Gogol does not approve of. During Ashoke s lifetime, he nurtured and cared for Gogol like any father would. However, Gogol did not have the same influence from his father like Oskar. He shied away from his parents and cultural background, evident from when he was dating Maxine. It got to the point where he did not want anything to do with his parents in his own life. As Judith Caesar commented on Lahiri s novel, Gogol s unhappiness may not come from the problems of being bi cultural, precisely, but from his own limited self understand and his rational impulse to see alternative selves as binary and mutually exclusive (Caesar). Being young, Gogol is influenced by the other cultural backgrounds that he sees. This ultimately led to his confusion and self doubt. Unlike Oskar s goal of trying to understand his father, Gogol is the opposite. He tries everything he can to not be like his dad. However, as the story continues, He discovers his
  • 9. Analysis of Smash Hits Essay Analysis of Smash Hits Smash Hits sells itself as a popular music magazine; it fits well into this self proclaimed genre and creates its image through the codes, conventions, and generic signifiers of that genre. For example, bright, bold lettering the red and white titles, almost like a stamp. Generic signifiers and genre in general are vital to both the magazine and its audience, the audience use genre as a means of segmenting and recognition in the crowded magazine market. Genres, signifiers,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All three covers examined are very similar in both style and content, each with an almost identical layout. Whatever changes that do appear are few and subtle. Audiences not only influence, but also have the ability to control the magazine and its style. This layout and formula obviously works, and so it must continue in order to meet audience expectations and, in turn, maintain sales profit is king . In relation to representation, the magazine knows exactly who its target audience is, and gives clues to this by the submission or omission of people, races, cultures and lifestyles. The magazine includes, white, young and childish pop stars with perfect bodies and immature behaviour. These impossible templates of beauty appeal to the young, teenage, white, middle class, heterosexual audience as they seem to admire and relate to those featured in the pages of Smash Hits . Smash Hits is a mid price magazine, at ВЈ1.25. It is affordable without being too cheap. The language of the magazine is obviously targeted at a younger, possibly less intelligent audience. It adopts a highly colloquial register and avoids both complicated lexis and syntax, it tries to be inclusive of the reader s thoughts and opinions, addressing them directly, and speaking in the first person. It uses subject specific words and jargon to create an
  • 10. Free-Radical Chain Reaction Lab Report Free radical chain reactions involve the formation of halides and alkyl halides by reacting diatomic halogens with reactive hydrogens attached to hydrocarbons. In this experiment, diatomic bromine was reacted with various arenes to produce hydrobromic acid and alkyl halides. The mechanism behind this reaction can be characterized by three distinct phases: initiation, propagation, and termination. During the initiation step, bromine radicals are produced via thermal or photochemical homolysis. These bromine radicals then react with hydrogens attached to a hydrocarbon in the propagation step to produce hydrobromic acid and a carbon radical. The chain reaction continues since the carbon radical formed can react with another diatomic bromine molecule, producing a carbon bromine bond and regenerating a bromine radical. The termination step ends the reaction by reacting two bromine radicals with each other, lowering the concentration of highly reactive bromine radicals in solution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when propane and diatomic bromine are reacted together, a 3:97 ratio of primary alkyl halide to secondary alkyl halide is produced. In contrast, when propane and diatomic chlorine are reacted together, a theoretical 3:1 ratio of primary alkyl halide to secondary alkyl halide is produced; experimentally, the ratio is closer to 45:55. Thus, it was determined that diatomic bromine was better suited to examine the reaction rates of the various

We get excited and momentum starts to speed up, but this excitement and momentum blinds us from the feelings of others. This is exactly what happened with the practiced slavery that took place in Africa. Slavery included stripping humans of their identities and classifying them as property, forcing them to obey their masters. The slaves had no rights and humanity had fled their thinking. Some even claimed slaves to be aliens even though they were not. Slave s masters could do what ever they pleased with the slaves including, making them do their dirty work, striking them whenever they pleased and abusing their slave sexually. The slave had no defense and responding to any violent act committed against them would amplify aggression causing the master to strike the perpetrator. The idea of someone taking complete control over another equal human makes many sick and today this is viewed as something terrible, unjust, unethical and corrupt. The African slave trade should not have been something looked to as socially or morally acceptable. It crushed lives by stripping them from their freedom and replacing them with violence, it brought sorrow to families in the separation and destruction process and it brought lose to basic human rights. As humans we tend to get caught up in this daily routine that is not necessarily a bad thing. Some people get caught in this and succeed. But now imagine being in
  • 12. Benefits Of Fast Food Essay Somer Dieffenbach Professor Chelsea Plunkett English 1101 15 October 2017 Eating Healthy is too Expensive? In today s society there is more fast food than ever and easier access towards the high cholesterol foods rather than the heart healthy foods. You may ask why? Well the low fat, wheat, veggies, or other healthy foods are far more expensive than just grabbing a quick bite at Chick Fil A or Cookout. This conflict between whether or not to spend a fortune on food so you can look good or be healthy has been debated for decades. Do the brands, who are much less fattening, have the right to up charge so much and why? People all the time state this false quote, Healthy foods don t cost more than unhealthy ones. For example, if you go to an all organic grocery store, like Trader Joe s, you will walk out spending much more than going to a regular grocery store and buying the usual not low fat foods. A can of soda and an apple have roughly the same number of calories (~120). While a large apple costs about $1, a can of soda sells for $0.50 to $0.75. You may be shocked by this fact, but today s society is messed up with nutrition. One major group that is affected by this situation are mothers who are trying to raise a family in a healthy way and teach them good eating habits, but they soon realize that it decreases their bank account drastically and they go back to the quick and fast meals. Part of the problem with healthy foods being so expensive is the definition of price.

This shows us that, the administrative authorities practice or perform functions of legislature and judiciary: this is so because of the impossibility in having rigid form of separation of powers due to complexity of modern conditions. Generally, for administrative authority or executive to function well, it needs legislative powers in order to make rules on how to enforce law and also judicial powers to decide on their own merits. That is why the delegation of quasi legislative and quasi judicial functions to a number of administrative authorities and tribunals has become unavoidable. 1. As we were rowing, Odysseus explained to us what Cierce told him about the island of the sirens and how to avoid the sirens voices luring us to our own death. Cierce also instructed Odysseus to tell the crew members to tie him up with very strong ropes and not to release him until they got pass the sirens because Odysseus alone can only hear the voices of the sirens. Now then, attend to my instructions. Keep your seats and row away, Like men, and then we may hope that Zeus was saved and deliver us out of this danger. Now for you, steersman s, pay careful heed, for you hold our helm in your hands. • 16. The Importance Of Technology And Social Media Moreover, social media also works as a forum provided by governments to build a healthy relationship with its citizens while also allowing the government to maintain control. Before technology and social media become prominent in the mid 2000s, governments and other state actors did not believe in the benefits it would provide in terms of development. This changed when the media market became more liberalized providing more opportunities for countries to gain economic development. Kazakhstan is an example of a country s governmentusing social media to defy rebellions. Until the mid 2000 s, only 3% of people in Kazakhstan used the internet. This number had increased to 54% in 2013 (Niyazbekov, 2017). Kazakhstan s government went online during the same time and ministers followed Prime Minister Karim Massimov and started blogging. The aim was to change the public s perceptive of the government being too bureaucratic and ineffective. After president Nursultan Nazarbayevs address to the nation in 2004, more portals opened for stateservices. By 2012, Kazakhstan came in 2nd place in a global rating of citizens e participation denoting ease of access to public (Niyazbekov, 2017). However, following the Zhanaozen city protests, it signalled to the government to treat social media sites such as Facebook with caution as it was clear that it could be used as an effective tool to organize movements. This resulted in the government tightening the media legislation and cleansing

  • 18. Ethical Concerns Within Public Research Ethics There are few ethical concerns within this research question. Firstly, it may be the case that the subjects can become distressed due to the sensitive nature of the research question. If at any point this occurs during the interview, I will switch off the recorder until the participant is ready to continue; if at all. If a participant wishes to withdraw at any point during the research, they will be able to do so freely. Each participant will be provided with a consent form, which they must sign before the study commences. They will also be provided with a copy of this consent form. Furthermore, a debrief form will be provided at the end of the research, which will illustrate my contact details. I will express that they are entirely welcome to contact me at any stage during and after the research if they have any other questions or concerns. With this in mind, each participant will be afforded extreme confidentiality and anonymity throughout the research. I am weary that the definition of confidentiality and anonymity is a fairly subjective term (Davies et al 2011). Therefore I will make it implicitly clear, on the consent and the brief form, that all names of each participant given to myself will be changed for the purposes of the research; regardless whether the names given were correct names or not. Furthermore, the interview recordings will only be heard by myself and my supervisor, if required. At the end of the research project all voice recordings will be

Poe and Morrison Transformed Jalopies into Hot Rods The subconscious is said to control various aspects of the life of a human to include major and minor decisions alike; whether to follow the path carved out so cautiously by others or to forge a unique path and travel it fiercely with reckless abandon and ambition guided by extreme individuality. What is this perplexing, intangible thing we call the subconscious? And what role does it play in the writing process of a poet? In general, when given the task of defining the subconscious, the initial impulse is to provide an ordinary idea such as, one s natural instinct that lies beneath the actively aware mind and its intentional thoughts ; however, what if the subconscious is something more? What if the subconscious is actually the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Allen resented Poe s desire to write poetry, as he saw it more fit that Poe obtain a formal education in business and pay closer attention to formulating his plan for a career (Hutchisson 12). Eventually Poe candidly wrote of his painful difficulties in life, I have many occasional dealings with Adversity, but the want of parental affection has been the heaviest of my trials (Ackroyd 13). Equally, Morrison endured an icy and emotionally distant relationship with his father. Although Morrison followed through with his father s requests to graduate from college with a degree, the direction in which Morrison took that degree was not at all what his father had visualized for his son. At the core of Morrison were a poet and a musician, both of which were unacceptable to his father (Hopkins 63). Furthermore, Poe and Morrison shared fairly comparable philosophies on the creation of poetry. On poetry, Poe is quoted as saying A poem in my opinion, is opposed to a work of science by having for its immediate object, pleasure, not truth (Hutchisson 27). Poe s philosophy on poetry shows his commitment to allowing the pleasure principle to act as the force behind the poem instead of adhering to a rigid standard put in place by others before him. Similarly, in an interview lead by Richard Goldstein in 1969, Morrison attempts to clarify his thoughts about the process of writing poetry; he states, when you write a poem often you just, you have to be
