Stem Cell Research Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of stem cell research presents a multifaceted challenge, requiring
a delicate balance of scientific accuracy, ethical considerations, and effective communication.
The complexity arises from the interdisciplinary nature of the topic, demanding a solid
understanding of biology, medicine, and the ethical implications associated with groundbreaking
research.
Firstly, delving into the scientific aspect involves comprehending the intricate world of stem
cells – their types, functions, and potential applications in various fields such as regenerative
medicine. This requires a deep dive into scientific literature, staying updated with the latest
advancements, and ensuring that the information is accurately represented in the essay.
Simultaneously, one must navigate the ethical maze surrounding stem cell research. The use of
embryonic stem cells, in particular, sparks ethical debates, necessitating a nuanced exploration of
various perspectives. Balancing the promotion of scientific progress with ethical considerations
adds a layer of difficulty, demanding a writer to critically assess and present arguments from
multiple viewpoints.
Moreover, the writer needs to communicate this complex information in a coherent and
accessible manner. Striking a balance between scientific accuracy and readability is a challenge,
especially when dealing with a topic that involves technical terminology and intricate concepts.
Ensuring that the essay is engaging for a diverse audience, including those without a scientific
background, further complicates the writing process.
In summary, writing an essay on stem cell research is a formidable task that requires a blend of
scientific proficiency, ethical discernment, and effective communication skills. Navigating
through the complexities of the topic demands meticulous research, critical thinking, and a
commitment to presenting a well-rounded perspective. It's not merely about conveying
information but about crafting an argument that resonates with a diverse audience.

Character Analysis Of Ravana
Ravana Anand Neelakantan portrays Ravana as a loving father, an inspiring leader
and a caring brother. Ravana ceaselessly fights for the much deserved freedom and
glory for the Asura race and his motherland. He overthrows the yoke of Deva ruling
and carves out a big part of land from under the reign of the Deva, he leads the Asuras
to a better future. Ravana looks upon the great God Indra with contempt. Through
Ravana s eyes, one can see Indra as ruthless and savage . Indra laid waste to Asura
towns and set fire to beautiful villages. He captured cities, butchered all living things
and blazed huge funeral pyres. Anand brings in a contradiction in viewpoints here.

Sure, Ravana had his share of errors and misdeeds throughout his life, but as great a
man he was, he was ultimately a man and a man is synonymous with err. Still no
deed casts him so low down to the title of a devil. If there ever raise a need for him
to be categorized, one may put him comfortably under the long list of martyrs. He
fought for the freedom of his people, fought for the honor of his motherland, he
fought for the protection of his daughter, he fought for the ideals and values that are
rooted in his heart, and gave his life protecting them. Ravana was a

The first social science that Louis the XIV benefitted was the economy. According to
the reading France Under Louis the XIV , Louis s brilliant finance minister Jean

the reading explains is that the economy was bolstered by the finance minister that
Louis the XIV appointed. Since Louis the XIV appointed a strong finance minister it
can be assumed that he placed a large focus on economics. This positively impacted
the country of France as a whole. A strong economy within the country allowed for

Demand Shocks
What Happens When Things Change?
There are demand shocks in the Short Run , when things change. There are demand
shocks when
adjusting to the long run. There are also supply shocks.(www.econweb.tamu.edu)
When there is a
demand shock, this is an event that will cause the AD curve to shift. When there is a
supply shock, it is
an event that will cause the AS curve to shift. .(www.econweb.tamu.edu)
Demand shock that happen in the short run usually occur when there is an increment
in government
purchases. The real increase of the GDP is measured by the horizontal shift of the
AD curve, if the
price level remained constant. The prices change and cause the GDP to rise less that

An increase in money supply results in

Other demand shocks ,
A positive demand shock makes the AD curve shift to the right. This results in an
increase in both the
real GDP and the price level in the short run. If a negative demand shock occurs, then
the AD curve will
shift leftward. The real GDP and the price level will decrease in the short run

The wage rates remain unchanged in the short run. In the long run the wage rates will
and may change.
When the output is found above the full employment level, the wages will change
and will rise. This will
result in the AS curve shifting upwards. When the output is below the full
employment level, the wage
rate will not rise but will decrease. This will result in the AS curve shifting
downwards.

There is a self correcting mechanism that adjusts the process through which prices and
wages return
the economy to full employment in the long run. When the output is more than the
full employment
level, the wages must rise . When the wages rise , they cause a rise in price levels

Context Of Discourse
Before analyzing the importance in the semantics in the conversations that are
occurring between expressing the duality of citizenship, and duality in cultures, the
importance of language in the context of discourse will be briefly explained.
Language and its multiple uses, allows for discourse to be examined in ways that
allows languageas not only something that happens between conversations, but that
also happens to people, in every day, any context talk. As James P. Gee (2014) states,
language allows us to do things; it allows us to engage in actions and activities (p. 2).

Assuming that the participant has chosen to become a citizen out of personal or any
other legal need, they have placed themselves in this act. Tracy and Trethewey (2005)
present the argument of a crystallized self, a term that explains that there are multiple
self that the human being may choose to portray at any given time, of course
depending on the context. They state discourses work to fix identities in particular
ways that favor some interests over others and thus constrain alternative truths and
subject positions, (p. 171). In this act or performance, the legal discourse of becoming
a citizen is constructed to let the participants/performers know that the identity that is
being presented to them is one that will reflectively aid the American citizen narrative
they are to adopt. This is done while constraining the multiple, diverse identities or
true personas of the participants. Stated on the USCIS website, there are two types of

Bosnian Genocide Essay
A genocide is a intended killing upon a large group of people, especially upon a
certain ethnic group. The genocide in Bosnia, also known as The Bosnian War
started in 1992 after Bosnian government declared independence from Yugoslavia.
Bosnian Serbs did not like the idea of a free nation with majority of the citizens
being Muslim. Serbskilled approximately 100,000 croats and muslims. The Genocide
in Bosnia Herzegovina is similar to the Holocaust because both involved the murders
of certain cultures. This was the largest massacre in Europe since the Holocaust
(Bosnia Herzegovina).
Bosnia Herzegovina was made up of three main ethnic groups, Bosniak Muslim,
Serb, and Croat (Bosnia Herzegovina). Before Bosnia declared independence from

trick, the Patriots beat the Cannoneers by a score of 3 2. In a game that Colton
Swan will never forget, the sophomore from Indian Head, PA buried 3 goals that
gave him his first hat trick in his collegiate career.
UVF and Pratt battled for nearly an entire half with neither team able to find pay dirt.
It wasn t until the 44th minute when the Cannoneers broke through. Pratt s Michael
South outran the Valley Forge defense and put his shot past keeper Bryan Ardon for
the Cannoneers first goal. At the end of the first half that was dominated by defense,
Pratt Institute led 1 0.
As the second half began, the Patriots remained scoreless until Colton Swan took
over. Samuel Jere found Swan streaking toward goal. Jere s pass was on the money
and Swan buried his first goal in the right corner of the net to tie the game at 1. 2
minutes later, Michael South struck again for his second goal to break the tie and
give Pratt a 2 1 advantage. In the 74th minute, Bill Peron raced down the right side

his audience; Inspector Goole represents Priestley s views and his morals. Priestley
wrote An Inspector Calls to further enhance this message; he portrays these views
through the character of the Inspector in the play itself. The play is classed as a
murder mystery/psychological thriller, however it is in fact a play of morality and

This is also marking the moment , which makes the audience suspect that this may
not be the last we hear of Gerald s secret and it will perhaps be exposed as the play
progresses. Another example of tension is when Mr. Birling tells Gerald about his
possible knighthood, but refuses to tell Eric about it when he re enters the room;
tension is present because the audience do not know why Eric is not to be involved
in the conversation. In the play, the tension continues to increase the peak of tension
being at the end of the acts where the cliffhangers lie. Another effective device used
by Priestley is the timing of exits and entrances of the Inspector. He times the
entrance of the Inspector so that he appears just after Mr. Birling has made his
speech, as if to discredit everything Mr. Birling has just said. This is also giving the
audience the impression that the Inspector is almost superhuman; almost ghost like
his name being Inspector Goole.

Journey Of Being Kind Analysis
The Journey of Being Patient Being kind is a task everyone is challenged with
each day but many people never seem to master kindness. Kindness is an emotion
that is giving off to others as being polite and considering others whether you know
them or not. Kindness is a characteristic that is only felt or seen by others. Kindness
is a form of love that someone can express towards somebody and will either be
excepted or denied. The importance of kindness is to see that being kind is the right
thing to do in any situation no matter the anger or frustration. Kindness is needed in
order to show love and happiness to others and also shows that you respect a relation

Although I see myself as a kind, polite, and generous person my toughest battle is
being impatient. My struggle with being impatient definitely comes from my
father as that is all I was ever shown. I get along with everyone and I am well liked
with many friends ,but when I am wronged I always feel the need to retaliate. My
impatience is the biggest problem I see wrong with myself which makes me feel
disgusted with myself because I crush others hearts when I retaliate. There is a
constant pain when I hurt others and shows my lack of self control. One time my
little brother that is fourteen now and I were cleaning the house. I gave my brother
a order of things to clean and I had my own. I saw he was taking a lot of breaks and
not doing a very good job scrubbing the white cabinets. I grabbed him and yelled at
him telling him that he was lazy as hell and that his cleaning looked like crap. He
was upset and wanted to retaliate but knew he didn t have a chance. I then calmed
down after a bit and saw myself acting just as my father would towards my brother.
I had just demonstrated to my dad what I always hated. I felt awful and selfish for
my actions. I then went to him and apologized and told his how sorry I was. My
actions and anger towards him that day really showed me I had a problem with
patience and could do better. I saw that nothing would change if I didn t

When dealing with gifted children, there are often many social and emotional

These characteristics can also cause the already identified students to not achieve to
their fullest due to stress and lack of motivation.
It is very hard to understand why students don t perform to their full potential when
you know they are capable. This is known as underachievement. Both early
researchers and more recent authors have defined underachievement in Social and
Emotional Development of the Gifted 3 terms of a discrepancy between a child s
school performance and some ability index such as an IQ score. (Delisle Galbraith,
2002). Gifted children who do not succeed in school are often successful in outside
activities such as sports, social events, after school jobs, talent or hobby interests.
(Delisle Galbraith, 2002). So we wonder what causes the underachievement.
Bainbridge (2014), believes these problems result from gifted children being able to
intellectually understand abstract concepts but are then unable to deal with those
concepts emotionally. Ones physical development may also lead to an inability to
complete a task that they are capable of intellectually envisioning. Perfectionism can
lead to fear of failure, in turn causing a gifted child to avoid failure by refusing to
even try something. (Bainbridge, 2014). This often leads to a lack of motivation
among students.
McCoach Siegle (2005), believe that motivated students appear to
Social Cognitive Theory In Mass Media
Social cognitive theory predicts, Imitation of behaviors is more likely if the movies
viewer thinks the portrayal is realistic and identifies with or desires to be like the
movie character (Brown 16). Amber Ferris, Stacy Smith, Bradley Greenburg, and
Sandi Smith summarize social cognitive theory with regard to movies viewing by
saying, This theory proposes that people are not merely passive viewers of content
but are cognizant consumers who reflect, regulate, and vicariously learn from the
material projected on television (663).
Social cognitive theory offers a framework for thinking about the ways in which
television provides information to its viewers from which to learn 2119011t their

As Albert Bandura explains in his article on social cognitive theory, Humans have
evolved an advanced capacity for observational learning that enables them to expand
their knowledge and skills rapidly through information conveyed by the rich variety
of models. Indeed, virtually all behavioral, cognitive, and affective learning from
direct experience can be achieved vicariously by observing people s actions and its
consequences for them.
Much social learning occurs either designedly or unintentionally from models in one
s immediate environment. However, a vast amount of information about human
values, styles of thinking, and behavior patterns is gained from the extensive
modeling in the symbolic environment of the mass media.
Bandura summarizes his argument by explaining that

The perception and expectations of the flight attendants was constantly changing.
For years prior to the civil rights movement, Delta imposed strict rules on the

The Purpose Of Child Curfew Laws
A long time ago the area now known as our home, the United States of America, got
discovered. This unearthing of new ground eventually brought about hope for many
individuals seeking a new and diverse life. By the mid to late 1800s America attracted
many Europeans. These immigrants strived for an opportunity to make a living with
great possibilities, and without negative government interference. Anyone would
consider it an understatement to claim that America, during this time, contained great
hope for the future of its inhabitance. After all, America s founding purpose comes

There are many opposing views on the basis of child curfew laws.
The main purpose of the curfew ordinance strives to reduce adolescent crime. This
idea generates positive ideas in thought and theory; but the problem continues to
remain. Child curfews do not seem to lower this crime rate. Research in the United
States revealed no link between areas with child curfew and their crime rate. The
majority of child crime happens from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., which has no foreseeable
relationship with a child curfew. The areas that see the most improvement are areas
with zero tolerance policing and other similar strategies.
The 14th Amendment of the United States says that no state shall make or enforce
any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United
States; this should apply to local government also. Cites and towns should not have
the authority to take away privileges of citizens solely based in fear of
unforeseeable crimes. They are taking away a right of all citizens for crimes that
have not even been committed yet. Crime prevention attracts a lot of good ideas, but
punishing innocent kids with a curfew in exchange for theorized crime prevention
just sounds ironically juvenile. A friend of mine and his experience will help plead
this case.

the man steel requires assistance. However poster 3 only show the fact that man of

other than that , the extent in which poster three reflects on the evolution of

In terms of filmic technology posters one and two show a limited amount limited
comic technology because of the comical look to the filmic posters. the costume
which superman wears in the second poster is mainly made of ordinary cloth
which reiterates simplicity .where as in the filmic posters for Man of steel show a

Juvenile Delinquency And Juvenile Criminal Justice System
Introduction:
Juvenile delinquency is an ever growing issue in the United States, according to the
Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, In 2012, there were 3,941
arrests for every 100,000 youths ages 10 through 17 in the United States (OJJDP,
2014). The way juveniles are treated in the criminal justice system is very different
than the way adults are. In 1899, in Cook County, Illinois, the first juvenile justice
system in the country was founded. This established an alternative way of dealing
with offenders whom are inherently different, in the way they think and commit
crimes, than those of adult age. There are a few distinct differences between the
juvenile and adult criminal system, but the biggest difference is the ... Show more

Seated at a desk, with the child at his side, where he can on occasion put his arm
around his shoulder and draw the lad to him, the judge, while losing none of his
judicial dignity, will gain immensely in the effectiveness of his work (Mack, 1909).
In an attempt to keep juveniles out of prisons and focus on reforming the offender,
many different rehabilitation programs became popular. Boot camps are one of the
most popular forms of crime prevention and rehabilitation for juvenile delinquency.
Many people believe that these boot camps are a beneficial alternative, citing that
they effectively reduce costs and recidivism rates. Whether or not these camps are
effective is a highly debated issue and has been for several decades. After researching
many different boot camps throughout the United States, the statistics are clear, they
do not prove to be effective in reducing recidivism rates, helping change the behavior
of the offenders, or reducing costs. Nonetheless, these programs enjoy continued
popularity both on a government as well as a private level.
Overview of Boot Camps:
There are two different types of boot camps that aim to help juvenile offenders. One
is viewed more punitively and the other is more focused on rehabilitation, though
they both aim to reform the individual and help them re enter society as a fully
functioning member. Thirty three states established some sorts of shock incarceration
White Noise By Don Delillo Essay
Don DeLillo throughout White Noise confirms through his characters that the
individual is capable of expressing feelings instantaneously, but for the most part
are calculated in their actions, and give off a façade. With the vast use of
characters, from Jack Gladney to the nun, we can take a closer look at the
individuals in the world filled with white noise. There is truly the possibility for
human kind to be honest down to the bone, for instance what Gladney expresses
love for his children, even the stepchildren. Although this possibility is true, people
still talk and do things against their emotions, or preference. People take on facades,
and take part in the things they don t believe in order to find an identity of their
own. This identity crisis is enhanced by societal factors, and the influence of media
with technology. Thus mankind in White Noise is incapable of expressing their true
selves, without conflicting with their external image. It boils down to this, the
emotions of the individuals are very much true, but are not surfaced, rather they hide
behind an image that is displayed to keep the people around them content. Once the
image is erased, or no longer relevant, then the character becomes insignificant. Thus
all that exists for the society of White Noise is what we are incredulous of, that
becomes their reality. Commencing the analysis of this we can start with Jack
Gladney the college professor, that specializes in Hitler studies. Jack is the perfect

When Italian Immigrants Were The Other By Ed Falco
On July 10, 2012, a passage titled When Italian Immigrants Were The Other was
published. In this passage Ed Falco said, America has a proud tradition as an
immigrant nation, but it also has a long history of marginalizing those it marks as
other. America s other heritage includes suspicion, hostility, abuse, and even death,
leveled against ethnic groups as they arrived one after another in waves over the past
2 ВЅ centuries. Falco emphasizes that America is proud of being an accepting nation
to the immigrants, but they are often marginalized, or pushed out of society. Many
true Americans attribute these immigrants with suspicion, hostility, abuse, and even
death, as they continue to arrive in America. This quote was said by someone... Show

Her husband moved to America for work so she no longer sees him. The other
people living with her are her daughter, a sick child who refuses to eat, and her new
boyfriend. Ever since the boyfriend came, the daughter has been sick and needs
help. This story is very similar to Falco s quote because abuse and suspicion lead
to someone leaving home. It is the man who is the agent. He had brought bad ways
with him. He has frightened the girl. She will not tell me how, (Cofer, 82) her
grandfather said. I saw a bruise on her arm, her grandmother replied. This quote
explains how the daughter, Angelina, was being affected by her mother s
boyfriend. She was being abused and was scared of him. This quote is negative
because he uses the words; frightened, bruise, and bad ways. Her grandfather
concluded the only way to make Angelina feel better was to get rid of the boyfriend,
so that is exactly what they did. After getting rid of the boyfriend, Angelina
recuperated quickly to a strong, healthy girl. This quote is important because it
shows how people can be forced to leave home because of hostility, abuse, and/or
suspicion.
Another story in Leaving Home that relates to Ed Falco s negative lens of American
marginalization is The Circuit by Francisco JimГ©nez. This story is about a poor
family from Mexico. The main character is a teenage boy named Panchito. During the
summer Panchito and his family work as sharecroppers at their house in Mexico. As

The Cow-Personal Narrative
It was a cold dark night full of howling winds. It was almost my time to go check
the heifers, I dreaded the thought of having to cope with the cold sharp snow
filled wind that soon to bear upon me. I knew I would have to leave soon for I had
seen something problematic ahead. I knew exactly what this trip was going to
entail and it wasn t going to be fun. I put my gear on and slowly started for the
door. As I emerged from my place of cover I felt the pain of the cold shudder
through my body. I climbed into the ranger and moved toward the bottom of the
canyon. The drifts were now about three feet in size. As I slowly made my rounds
looking for any clue for which cow would calve next. Finally, I saw the cow I had
been looking for. Her tag read 783 red. I had seen her when she emerged at the other

finishing checking the rest I returned back to the previous cow who had claved. As
I moved closer to her, she became very skeptical and started to give off some bad

The Mind and Body Problem
The issue of the origins of consciousness has been a problem that has philosophers
and scientists alike, puzzled for years. Is it a matter of science? Can it be explained
through neurobiological processes or is it just something that simply cannot be
reduced to words? Rene Descartes had struggled to explain this problem through his
idea of substance dualism. This idea states that the mind and body are of two separate
worlds, the physical world and the mental world. He then goes on by describing
himself as a thinking thing and questions the existence with the mind and body thus
bringing the questions of the material and the immaterial. From this sprouts the mind
body problem, the connection between mental phenomena and the physical world on
which the mind depends. In this philosophical essay, I will question whether the
mind and body coexist or if they are two separate entities that make us who we are.
One of the first arguments made in Cartesian Dualism is the argument of doubt.
Descartes starts to doubt the perception of his body, but handedly cannot conceive the
possibility that he is without a mind. This is because he of the very act of doubting
that he is a thinking thing, there has to be something that is doing the doubting as. He
continues to make the argument by saying as followed:
I am certain that I am a thinking thing
I am not certain that I am a physical thing
Therefore, I am not a

Introduction
During last two decades, the importance of logistics has been noticed around the
world. In global markets, the effects and further developments of logistics and supply
chain management for corporate success has increased significantly that result in a
large amount of companies have taken actual benefits in logistics, such as reducing
costs, enhancing customers satisfaction and increasing sales. However, some people
are confused with the relationship between logistics and supply chain management.
Therefore, this essay will argue that logistics management and supply chain
management are not exactly the same in operations because of the scope where
utilized and some specific activities are similar, but some are different. In the end, this
essay will also talk about the reasons for logistics management is an important
strategy to manufacturing or service companies.
The first argument is that they are not completely the same terms in operations
because of the scope where utilized are different. CSCMP states that the supply chain
management includes all activities about planning and management, such as
procurement and sourcing, conservation and all logistics management activities

Essay on A Brief Biography of Billie G. Kanell
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
(King James Version). This verse from the Bible is perfectly displayed in the life
and death of Billie G. Kanell. To those who do not know his story, Private Kanell is
simply considered another small town boy who went off to fight in the war, as many
young men did during that time, and never came back. However, to those who know
his story, he is considered a very courageous and heroic young manwho touched the
lives of many others with his selfless sacrifice.

Japan. While in Japan, Billie was able to write a short letter home letting all his

After a mere eleven days in Korea, Billie joined two other men named Mullen and

Celebrities Influence Celebrities
In Ralph Emerson s essay Self Reliance , he claims that individuals are not likely to
follow their own views, but rather someone else s, his claim is viable in today
because society has created an increase in insecurity for those who follow their own
view.
In today s society, celebrities have an influential view on what is acceptable, which
creates a youth problem in individuality. According to Fox News, a news, and
media network, Research is consistent that kids are more likely to choose foods
endorsed by celebrities, even when the foods are healthy. (T1) Since children s
minds are often influential, it is often very easy for them to be influenced by the
famous persona, as they are seen as a big role model. Small actions such as
sponsoring a commercial can lead to a child wanting a specific item. Young
children especially are most often to be influenced by famous adults as they have
underdeveloped minds which leads to an easy influential persona. With celebrities
often being praised by others, children often think it is a fine idea to follow them
in what they believe or what they say. Kirsty Fairclough, a senior lecturer in media
and performance at the University of Salford, claims that the media choose to
present rather narrow ideas about how celebrities particularly female ones should
behave and how they should look. (T3) The media influences celebrities and in this
case especially females to set a specific standard on what women should be, it creates

Bloody Sunday Research Paper
Bloody Sunday occurred on the 30th January 1972. On this day, a group of 15,000
rioters arranged a civil rights march in Londonderry. While the events leading up
to the shootings are unclear, they ended with the Parachute Regiment opening fire
on a group of protestors. 13 people were killed, with many others sustaining
injuries. While it is still not known what motivated the Parachute Regiment to fire
into the crowd, there are many theories and ideas, many of which still make
Bloody Sunday relevant today. Firstly, Bloody Sunday is still relevant because, for
many on all sides, it is still unresolved. Although many people have discussed
almost every possible reason why the paratroopers decided to attack, there has
never been any concrete evidence to support many of these theories. For example,
the army s explanation was that the paratroopers only shot at those who posed a
threat, such as stone throwers and people carrying petrol bombs, nail bombs, and
guns. However, many Nationalists believe it was simply an unprovoked punishment
to, as Source 1 puts it, teach the rebels of Free Derry a lesson they would never

Multi Campus And Georgia Technical College
The public institution selected for this research project is a nonprofit, multi campus
and Georgia s third largest technical college based in Waco. The institution has an
open admissions policy. It enrolls less than 7,000 students annually, in certificate,
diploma, and associate degree programs. The highest degree offered at the institution
is an associate degree. The student faculty ratio is 18 to 1. The challenge for West
Georgia Technical College(WGTC) is to design and implement effective retention
strategies and programs for first time students that monitor, encourage , and reward
student retention using available resources and without burdening faculty and staff
with cumbersome tracking and reporting procedures. While the limitations present an
overwhelming task, the consequences of not solving the problem exceed any
potential limitations. With these limitations in mind, the researcher s task is to find a
workable solution. First year retention rates involving higher education
undergraduates during the previous several years have improved marginally even
with various improvement efforts (Barefoot, 2000; Tinto, 2004). Large numbers of
first year students are exiting college due to unsatisfactory academic skills, failures to
adapt both socially and academically, in addition to having an inadequate
commitment to the objective of finishing college (Ishler Upcraft, 2005; Tinto, 1987).
The goal of this research project is to improve student retention by focusing

Why I Was Younger I Received Money Through Gifts, And...
When I was younger I received money through gifts, and allowance. My mother set
up an allowance system where my brother and I could earn money by doing a
variety of chores. This allowed us to learn how to care for ourselves and the
household, in addition to learning how to be responsible with money. Because money
wasn t given out much in her household, we learned to use it with care. My father s
household, however, was the complete opposite. Growing up, gifts and money
were handed out on a regular basis; as if Christmas came every week. This was
hard to balance though because there were two extremely different viewpoints of
money being installed in my brother and I. Being that I was older, I clung to my

This view is something that is easier said than done unfortunately and there came a
point where money did become the primary focus and source of conflict. My worst

into a greedy and unhappy mess. My fear is that if money becomes too heavily
concentrated on, that it will rip relationships apart and cause more misery than its
worth.
Currently, I am pretty comfortable with my financial situation. I use the money I
make from my jobs to help fund college and personal expenses. My paychecks are
deposited into a savings and checking account which I use to fund my expenses
respectively. Any extra money that I receive as a gift is stored in cash, in a lock
box. This lock box is then hidden and forgot about so that money is rarely taken
out and regularly put in. This allows for me to continually grow my fund so that in
the event of an emergency, I have money put away. My tip money is also stored in
the same way but separate from the gifted money. This also only accumulates and
is never taken from. I realize that storing my money in an account where I can earn

close at hand just in case I were to need it allows me more peace at mind. My two

Limb loss has long plagued United States Service men and women . Ranging from
the Union Army during the Civil War was more than 21,000 combat related
amputations suffered (2012 2). Besides the repercussions of war, about 5,000
veterans may have faced amputation from disease or accidents each year

prominent cause of veterans acquiring injuries that result in amputations. There is a

For some amputees, there may be a physical and emotional pain with the lost of a
limb. Bionics may not look and feel like a biological limb, but it comes close in
providing the functions and fills the blank space of a missing limb. Providing
individuals with bionic prosthetic technology assists in the reduction of health
care cost by enabling an individual to maintain an appropriate activity level. Bionic
limbs enables people to return to work and other important daily activities faster
and easier than before ( Hixenbaugh, 2010, p. 721). With the use of bionics an
amputee can walk with a natural gait and reduce the occurrence of stress on other
joints ( Hixenbaugh, 2010, p. 725). This alleviates the chance of chronic or acute
pain. An amputee can achieve a close to normal or normal metabolic energy
exertion and reduced the amount of energy exerted from the amputee (
Hixenbaugh, 2010, p. 725). This may give the wearer the ability to withstand
longer minor physical activities, such as walking for longer periods of time.
Individals that wear BioM walk at 23% faster than the speed of wearing a

Remember how earlier it was mentioned that any fare paying passenger was
allowed on the bus, this includes people with the flu or any kind of sickness
creating a germ infested bus that is only cleaned once a day! All too often bus
riders seem to have no sense of respect for fellow passengers leaving their trash on
the seats when they depart. In just about every bus in the valley, a rider can see
stains on the floor that are sometimes sticky from the drinks spilled throughout that
single day even though drinks are not allowed on the bus. Along with icky floors
comes gross windows or sometimes even gunk on the seats this is often from the
children who smear their dirty fingers and faces all over the bus. Unfortunately, this
junk is left on the bus all day for each passenger to see. Rather a repulsive sight when
someone takes the time to think that even as often as the bus stops at the transit
stations no one wipes the buses down between runs even with all the stops that a bus

problem with the access code and text book
Students have number of problems when they are going to college. One of the
biggest problem students are facing is buying the textbooks or access code for
their classes such as math, science, English, etc. Those students who are freshman
they do not realize how much they will be spending for the books and they think
they will be only spending $200 but in reality it cost more than $500. Students
always seems very confuse, mad and shock after spending this much money on the
textbooks. Beginning of semester most of the new students have same question,
such as is there any way we can save money from spending so much for these books?

Other students will tell you to buy used books rather than new. Buying used books
from eBay, amazon or from different companies can also help you to save money.
However, there are no other way you can save money from buying access codes. If
you buy it from university textbooks or you buy it from online, both of them cost
the same amount of money. Also if you do not want to spend money from buying
textbooks then you can buy an E textbook and that can save up to 60%. There are
many ways to save money, however price for the books increasing every year and it
makes harder and harder for students to go for college. Some students decide not to

John Donne Allusions
In the poem, Hymn to God My God in My Sickness, John Donne employs the use
of biblical allusions and metaphors to express that suffering in life is trivial to the
splendors that will be awarded in heaven. To begin, the speaker lets on that he
knows that he is dying; in a situation where others might struggle with the
realization, the speaker positively employs, I shall be made thy music; as I come/I
tune the instrument here at the door. As the speaker compares his amending to
refining an instrument, visibly any worries possibly holding the speaker back from
eternal peace are being taken care of before his death, leaving him appeased and
ready to move on. Furthermore, just as west and east are inevitably connected in flat
maps, which the
Strange Fruit Sexism
Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday Billie Holiday was a well known jazz singer who
was born in Pennsylvania on April 7, 1915. She was also known as Elanora Fagon
in which unfortunately had fallen victim in her life towards the addiction of heroin.
In conjunction with her addiction, she developed a criminal record due to her
numerous arrests relating to her drug abuse and prostitution. She eventually
checked herself into an institution to help break her addiction. However, at the
young age of forty four she died from congestion of the lungs which had stemmed
from having heart failure. Billie s life was filled with trials and tribulations.
Throughout her life she had dealt with racism, sexism, and poverty. Billie dropped
out of school in the fifth grade to run errands in a brothel, and then at the age of
twelve she was arrested for prostitution. Around 1930 she started singing in local
clubs. One of her most popular and intense songs was Strange Fruitwritten in 1939....

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck, for the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, for
the sun to rot, for the trees to drop, here is a strange and bitter crop clearly
describing the sight of bodies hanging on the trees for a long period of time. Billie
said that singing that song made her fearful of retaliation, but the imagery of the
song reminded her of her father (Virginia). Surprisingly Strange Fruit became a huge
part of her performances. Her shows began to end with her singing this song

Similarities Between Sita And Sita
Objective of my summer project is to compare and contrast the personality and life
of our two greatest women of epics Goddess Sita and Draupadi. I would like to draw
attention towards that how different they were yet they were similar.
One daughter was wanted and other was unwanted for the father,Draupadi just
erupted from fire her father just wanted a son. One erupted from fire full grown,
Draupadi a woman who hasn t experienced childhood. She had to suffer because of
her husbands. Goddess Sita was saved by her husband. Like Goddess Sita Draupadi
was also reincarnation of several goddess but she is only a village Goddess and she
is worshipped alone without her five husbands. Whereas Goddess Sita is worshipped
with her husband and sometimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Draupadi, however, does not get the pleasure of raising her children; they are sent
to the house of Krishna while she lives in exile in the forest with her husbands. All
five are murdered by Drona s son who refuses to take defeat lying down. The
kingdom of the Pandavas is passed on to the grandson of one of Arjuna s other
wives. Both Sita and Draupadi are trophies in an archery contest. Ram breaks a
mighty bow that he was supposed to string to win Sita s hand while Arjuna strikes
the eye of a fish rotating on a wheel hanging from the ceiling to win Draupadi s
hand. Some Ramayana retellings tell us of how Sita met Ram in a garden before
marriage and it was love at first sight, there is no such romance in Draupadi s life.
In fact, she prevents Karna from participating in the archery contest as he is of low
caste and ends up marrying a brahmin who turns out to be Arjuna disguised. Sita s
sister and cousins are given in marriage to Ram s brothers. Draupadi is shared by
Arjuna s four brothers, all of whom have many other wives. Thus while Sita
experiences monogamy, Draupadi experiences polyandry and

An Exploration of ShЕЌjo and ShЕЌnen Manga through Sailor Moon and Black Cat
Genres are one of the first things readers look at to help determine whether or not a
book should be read. Although there are many similarities between the genres
shounen (manga intended for males) and shoujo (manga intended for females) that
make a manga seem like it could be either genre, there are differences that are meant
to distinguish between their respective audiences. As a more specific example, the
shared themes of fighting, love, and superhuman powers as well as the character in
Black Cat and Sailor Moon suggest a similar genre and audience; however, upon

Looking at a fight scene from Black Cat, a battle with the main character (Train
Heartnet) starts in chapter 49 and continues through chapter 51. Throughout these
chapters, Train is fighting his enemy almost the entire time (there are moments
when it cuts to his companions for a few pages). The battle finally concludes on
page 16 in chapter 51 when Train knocks out his enemy with a strike to the face.
With the finishing blow, his foe spits out a mouthful of blood and can be seen
bleeding a few panels later. There is no attempt to hide any blood or gore in Black
Cat, whereas in Sailor Moon the enemy simply melts away and blood is avoided.
Whether or not this is intended, the effect is clear: Black Cat attracts viewers who
like to see violence without any censorship and Sailor Moon appeals to people who
are not as into the depictions of fighting.
The difference in length of battle also plays a role in highlighting the scene. The
couple pages of fighting in Sailor Moon are dwarfed by the multiple chapters
Black Cat uses to play out a fight. This emphasizes the point that one manga is
trying to appeal to audiences wanting to see more combat and the other is for
readers who prefer less violence. There are also less theatrical acts in Black Cat;
Train and his enemy do not shout out their moves before they attack unlike Sailor
Moon. This further accentuates how Black Cat readers are used to seeing fighting
scenes and do not need to have fights explained, where Sailor Moon
Compare Pike And Hunting Snake
Pike and Hunting Snakes are unusual topics to be discussed with an approbational
tone. They are fierce and violent animals, but in the poems Pike written by Ted
Hughes and Hunting Snake written by Judith Wright, they are discussed with high
regard and acclaim. Both poets observe the beauty and allure of these animals who
have killer instincts and an aggressive nature. In Hughes poem Pike he uses paradox
to highlight the pikes beauty and a sense of threat, in the introductory four stanzas.
He uses highly praising adjectives such as grandeur , gold , emerald and delicacy to
portray the beauty, majesty and fragility of pike. The words emerald and gold seem
to illustrate Hughes very high regard for an animal that is treasured... Show more

the end of the poem she and her companion also share a significant look which
makes them seem like they are breath taken and trying to digest the majestic
qualities that this animal possesses, alongside being wary of its threat. Wright also
describes the snake as he rather than it . Personifying the snake shows the high
regard the poet has for the animal, it also portrays it as a fellow companion rather
than a specie which is viewed as less worthy. She writes with respect and high esteem
for the snake, but is still utterly shaken by the
The History Of Community Television In Colombia
From illegal consumers to legal producers of community. Community TV in
Colombia 1997 2007.
Big satellite dishes cover the roofs of several community centers in city
neighborhoods and towns in Colombia. Their visibility is a monument of a moment
in history in which these devices accelerated the access to international media
contents, years before the privatization of television distribution in the country.
Images, ideas and practices that surrounded the introduction of these devices lead to a
range of larger questions regarding social aspirations and distinctions attached to
technology. As satellite dishes were adapted and adopted across the country, political
and economic changes in the government made the infrastructures created by the ...

In Agreement 006 of 1996, the Colombian National Television Authority also
established a set of prohibitions to community television which include signal radio
diffusion, service commercialization, reception and distribution of codified signals.
However, a year later, the National Authority started to refer to community television
as non profit community television, in which it demanded from Community
television to produce contents for keeping their status.
Through these legal changes, I explore emerging ideas of participation and
community that turned these infrastructures into hubs for production. Under these
circumstances, community television has turned into a small scale cultural industry
for producing of local content, supported by the idea that these projects empower
local sense of communities. By following some of the democratic changes introduced
in the 1991 constitution, and the free market policies on this decade, I will consider
how community projects joined discourses of self sustainability and accountability as
a condition for an emergent techno communitarianism, rooted in the infrastructures of
satellite dishes from the 1980s (Hay, 2007).

An Analysis Of Oscar Wilde S The Importance Of Being

English 213

Role of Marriage in Importance of Being Earnest The Importance of Being Earnest,
Oscar Wilde s last and most famous play, debuted in London on February 14, 1895.
Throughout the play, one major theme seems to override the others. That theme is the
role of marriage; the question of whether marriage as an institution is pleasant or
unpleasant comes up repeatedly. It seems as if every character has a strong stance
on the role of marriage and how it affects them, no matter how futile or unreliable
that opinion may be. As a whole, The Importance of Being Earnest embodies a
complete criticism of the role of marriage, representing both sides of the argument; by

I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like
a very delicate exotic fruit. Touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of
modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate,
education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to
the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square (Newby).
The absolute absurdity of these statements effectively makes foolery of Jack s quest
to marry Gwendolyn through the approval of her mother; in comparison, Wilde
effectively makes foolery of the social requirements and specifically the rigid
structure of the marriage process as a whole. According to Jen Ziegenfuss in her
article Marriage in the Victorian Era, there were certain rules that applied to most
marriages during the Victorian era. For example, Victorians were encouraged to
marry within the same class; marrying into an upper class was acceptable but
marrying down meant marrying an inferior, which brought about a certain degree
of shame. Wilde touches on this dilemma with another relationship within the play,
the relationship between Miss Prism and Doctor Chausable. Miss Prism lives at
Jack s country house and is Cecily s governess while Doctor Chausable is the rector
on Jack s estate; the two of them harbor romantic feeling for the other that are
largely suppressed because of different social classes. As the play goes on, their
Robin Hood Beliefs
Robin Hood was a man who loved life and sought adventure in every aspect of his
life. Although, he has a made some mistakes he typically tried to do good. He
loved people, especially women and children. I would not consider him a true
follower of a Christ, but rather a man who does good works. In Titus 3:5 it says,
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He
saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. (New
King James Version, Tit. 3.5) This verse is basically saying that you cannot get to
heaven through good works. Gods grace and mercy is what allows us to get into
heaven, but we have to make that choice.

Robin was not very good at this, as we can see all the situations it got him in. A
quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough. ( Bruce Lee ) Robin s anger
caused him to kill two people! When one gets angry it can affect more than just
you. It is not wrong to be angry, but it is wrong to act upon our anger. In Ephesians
4:26 it says, Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath.
(Ephesians 4.26)This verse is a reminder to not act upon our anger, but also not to
hold onto it because it ends up hurting us more by holding onto it.
The final lesson I have learned from Robin Hood is to do things the right way.
Often times the right way ends up being the harder way, but it is always more
rewarding. One of the main reasons Robin had so many enemies is because the
things he did were against the law and unjust to certain people. In James 4:17 it
says, Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
(James 4.17)This verse is saying that if one knows the right thing to do, but does not
do it, it is a sin. Doing the right thing can be very hard. If one remains faithful, God
will bless

The Theme Of Nike Foreign Exchange Exposure Essay
I. Introduction
The purpose of this report is to analyze the theme of NIKE foreign exchange
exposure. In this research, NIKE financial report 2014 will be used a fundamental
source to analyse the break down of revenue according to market or segments of Nike.
Nike Enterprise possesses heaps of segments all over the world such as North
America, Central Eastern Europe, Greater China, Japan, and Emerging Markets. In
addition, there are also manifold merchandises manufactured and distributed beyond
the United States. Hence, large amount of purchase and sale transactions in different
currencies are executed by Nike enterprise. If foreign currency exchange rates and
interest rates waver, Nike enterprise may suffer a decline in revenues, growth in cost,
and lower margins and earnings.
There are lots of methods to solve the changes in foreign currency and interest rates
issue, however, derivative financial instruments are the major tunes Nike enterprise
has used to tackle this issue. Despite the fact that this approach does not wipe out
comprehensively the risk of foreign exchange, Nike enterprise still utilize it to
minimize or delay the negative consequences. Specifically, the derivative financial
instruments comprise embedded derivatives, interest rate swap, and foreign exchange
forwards and options contracts (Nike annual report, 2014).
Research questions: To begin with, I would like to analyze NIKE foreign exchange

Behavior Modification Plan For Ourselves
When I first learned that we were doing a behavior modification plan for ourselves
I did not know what to think. After having it explained to me I knew that it had to
be something related to my stress and anxiety levels. My entire life it has been
something that has hindered me from getting outside of my comfort zone to better
myself. So I started from there and had to figure out a way to measure my stresses
in numbers. I wasn t sure how I was supposed to mathematically lay out what gives
me stress. Our awesome teacher then asked me what it was that I did to relieve
stress. I told her that I like guns and going to the shooting range. From there I was off
and running. My goal was to go to the shooting range to help manage my stress
levels. My first sub goal was to schedule times twice a week to go to the range. I
decided that I would go on Tuesdays and Fridays after work. I researched local
shooting ranges in my area and determined that Fletcher Arms in Waukesha was
the best bet for me based on price and location. Another sub goal that I gave myself
was to find all my information by September 10, 2015 which I was able to
accomplish. That was easy to accomplish but not all of my planning paid off for me
at first. There were a couple of issues that I ran into during the semester that were not
significant; but they were things that I needed to figure out in order to be successful.
When road blocks get in the way it is sometimes difficult to want to continue. I
Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OCC)
2. Literatures Review 2.1. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) Oral cancer (OC)
includes a group of neoplasms affecting any region of the oral cavity, pharyngeal
regions and salivary glands. However, this term tends to be used interchangeably

most common malignant neoplasm of the oral cavity derived from stratified
squamous epitheliumincluding lips, buccal mucosa, lower and upper alveolar
ridges, retromolar gingiva, floor of the mouth, hard palate, and the anterior two

Head and neck SCC is quite heterogeneous and most of the tumors arise in the oral

Analysis Of Sweat And Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
The point of view a story is told in has a significant impact on how the reader
perceives the story, the plot, and the characters. Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston, 1978,
and Pigeons at Daybreak by Anita Desai, 1926, are both narrated in third person
limited omniscient. Although both stories are narrated from the same point of view
and both follow the protagonistof the story, the stories portray the main characters as
complete opposites. While Delia, the protagonist in Sweat , invokes empathy from
the reader, she ultimately is strong and independent. Mr. Basu, the protagonist in
Pigeons at Daybreak , invokes frustration and pity from the reader as he is begging
for sympathy from his wife.

In the story Pigeons at Daybreak the protagonist, Mr. Basu, is portrayed as a very
ill man who uses his illness to gain sympathy from his wife who is his sole
caretaker. Although she does her best to take care of him and provide him with
everything he needs, Mr. Basu is continuously rude and unappreciative toward her. As
the story goes on, the narrator continues to portray Mr. Basu in a negative light. For
example, when Mrs. Basu reads the newspaper to her husband and he says, You
can t be reading right (Desai 221) assuming she is incapable of reading the
newspaper, although she is highly educated. Mr. Basu s negative attitude elicits a
disapproving review from the reader. Throughout the story, the reader is constantly
reminded how self centered and selfish Mr. Basu is, especially as Mrs. Basu begins
blaming herself when he becomes overwhelmed and worried. The third person
limited omniscient perspective emphasizes the overall theme which is appreciating
what others are gifting you with rather than taking advantage of their generosity. It
does so by creating a sense of understanding of both Mr. Basu s frustration, and Mrs.
Basu s patience. In contrast to Sweat , the third person narrator in Pigeons at
Daybreak invokes the reader to feel negatively toward the main character, Mr. Basu,

In An Inspector Calls, Priestley conveys this to his audience; Inspector Goole represents Priestley s views and his morals. Priestley wrote An Inspector Calls to further enhance this message; he portrays these views through the character of the Inspector in the play itself. Another example of tension is when Mr. Birling tells Gerald about his possible knighthood, but refuses to tell Eric about it when he re enters the room; tension is present because the audience do not know why Eric is not to be involved in the conversation. In the play, the tension continues to increase the peak of tension being at the end of the acts where the cliffhangers lie. Another effective device used by Priestley is the timing of exits and entrances of the Inspector. He times the entrance of the Inspector so that he appears just after Mr. Birling has made his speech, as if to discredit everything Mr. Birling has just said. This is also giving the audience the impression that the Inspector is almost superhuman; almost ghost like his name being Inspector Goole. Thro In An Inspector Calls, there are things that we, as an audience, are unsure about. Who is most responsible for Eva Smith s death? Was there really a girl called Eva Smith who committed suicide in the infirmary? And, most importantly, who is the Inspector? Well, Inspector Goole is in fact not a real police inspector; his assertive and impatient manner

These characteristics can also cause the already identified students to not achieve to their fullest due to stress and lack of motivation. It is very hard to understand why students don t perform to their full potential when you know they are capable. This is known as underachievement. Both early researchers and more recent authors have defined underachievement in Social and Emotional Development of the Gifted 3 terms of a discrepancy between a child s school performance and some ability index such as an IQ score. (Delisle Galbraith, 2002). Gifted children who do not succeed in school are often successful in outside activities such as sports, social events, after school jobs, talent or hobby interests. (Delisle Galbraith, 2002). So we wonder what causes the underachievement. Bainbridge (2014), believes these problems result from gifted children being able to intellectually understand abstract concepts but are then unable to deal with those concepts emotionally. Ones physical development may also lead to an inability to complete a task that they are capable of intellectually envisioning. Perfectionism can lead to fear of failure, in turn causing a gifted child to avoid failure by refusing to even try something. (Bainbridge, 2014). This often leads to a lack of motivation among students. McCoach Siegle (2005), believe that motivated students appear to

The main purpose of the curfew ordinance strives to reduce adolescent crime. This idea generates positive ideas in thought and theory; but the problem continues to remain. Child curfews do not seem to lower this crime rate. Research in the United States revealed no link between areas with child curfew and their crime rate. The majority of child crime happens from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., which has no foreseeable relationship with a child curfew. The areas that see the most improvement are areas with zero tolerance policing and other similar strategies. The 14th Amendment of the United States says that no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; this should apply to local government also. Cites and towns should not have the authority to take away privileges of citizens solely based in fear of unforeseeable crimes. They are taking away a right of all citizens for crimes that have not even been committed yet. Crime prevention attracts a lot of good ideas, but punishing innocent kids with a curfew in exchange for theorized crime prevention just sounds ironically juvenile. The way juveniles are treated in the criminal justice system is very different than the way adults are. In 1899, in Cook County, Illinois, the first juvenile justice system in the country was founded. This established an alternative way of dealing with offenders whom are inherently different, in the way they think and commit crimes, than those of adult age. In an attempt to keep juveniles out of prisons and focus on reforming the offender, many different rehabilitation programs became popular. Boot camps are one of the most popular forms of crime prevention and rehabilitation for juvenile delinquency. Many people believe that these boot camps are a beneficial alternative, citing that they effectively reduce costs and recidivism rates. Whether or not these camps are effective is a highly debated issue and has been for several decades. After researching many different boot camps throughout the United States, the statistics are clear, they do not prove to be effective in reducing recidivism rates, helping change the behavior of the offenders, or reducing costs. Nonetheless, these programs enjoy continued popularity both on a government as well as a private level. With the vast use of characters, from Jack Gladney to the nun, we can take a closer look at the individuals in the world filled with white noise. There is truly the possibility for human kind to be honest down to the bone, for instance what Gladney expresses love for his children, even the stepchildren. Although this possibility is true, people still talk and do things against their emotions, or preference. People take on facades, and take part in the things they don t believe in order to find an identity of their own. This identity crisis is enhanced by societal factors, and the influence of media with technology. Thus mankind in White Noise is incapable of expressing their true selves, without conflicting with their external image. It boils down to this, the emotions of the individuals are very much true, but are not surfaced, rather they hide behind an image that is displayed to keep the people around them content. Once the image is erased, or no longer relevant, then the character becomes insignificant. Thus all that exists for the society of White Noise is what we are incredulous of, that becomes their reality. Commencing the analysis of this we can start with Jack Gladney the college professor, that specializes in Hitler studies. Jack is the perfect

She will not tell me how, (Cofer, 82) her grandfather said. I saw a bruise on her arm, her grandmother replied. This quote explains how the daughter, Angelina, was being affected by her mother s boyfriend. She was being abused and was scared of him. This quote is negative because he uses the words; frightened, bruise, and bad ways. Her grandfather concluded the only way to make Angelina feel better was to get rid of the boyfriend, so that is exactly what they did. After getting rid of the boyfriend, Angelina recuperated quickly to a strong, healthy girl. This quote is important because it shows how people can be forced to leave home because of hostility, abuse, and/or suspicion. The Mind And Body Problem Nishtha Patel December 13, 2014 PHILO 1100 091 The Mind and Body Problem The issue of the origins of consciousness has been a problem that has philosophers and scientists alike, puzzled for years. Is it a matter of science? Can it be explained through neurobiological processes or is it just something that simply cannot be reduced to words? Rene Descartes had struggled to explain this problem through his idea of substance dualism. This idea states that the mind and body are of two separate worlds, the physical world and the mental world. He then goes on by describing himself as a thinking thing and questions the existence with the mind and body thus bringing the questions of the material and the immaterial. From this sprouts the mind body problem, the connection between mental phenomena and the physical world on which the mind depends. In this philosophical essay, I will question whether the mind and body coexist or if they are two separate entities that make us who we are. One of the first arguments made in Cartesian Dualism is the argument of doubt. Descartes starts to doubt the perception of his body, but handedly cannot conceive the possibility that he is without a mind. This is because he of the very act of doubting that he is a thinking thing, there has to be something that is doing the doubting as. He continues to make the argument by saying as followed: I am certain that I am a thinking thing I am not certain that I am a physical thing Therefore, I am not a

According to Fox News, a news, and media network, Research is consistent that kids are more likely to choose foods endorsed by celebrities, even when the foods are healthy. Although many people have discussed almost every possible reason why the paratroopers decided to attack, there has never been any concrete evidence to support many of these theories. The institution has an open admissions policy. It enrolls less than 7,000 students annually, in certificate, diploma, and associate degree programs. The challenge for West Georgia Technical College(WGTC) is to design and implement effective retention strategies and programs for first time students that monitor, encourage , and reward student retention using available resources and without burdening faculty and staff with cumbersome tracking and reporting procedures. While the limitations present an overwhelming task, the consequences of not solving the problem exceed any potential limitations. With these limitations in mind, the researcher s task is to find a workable solution. First year retention rates involving higher education undergraduates during the previous several years have improved marginally even with various improvement efforts (Barefoot, 2000; Tinto, 2004). Large numbers of first year students are exiting college due to unsatisfactory academic skills, failures to adapt both socially and academically, in addition to having an inadequate commitment to the objective of finishing college (Ishler Upcraft, 2005; Tinto, 1987). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at a fight scene from Black Cat, a battle with the main character (Train Heartnet) starts in chapter 49 and continues through chapter 51. Throughout these chapters, Train is fighting his enemy almost the entire time (there are moments when it cuts to his companions for a few pages). The battle finally concludes on page 16 in chapter 51 when Train knocks out his enemy with a strike to the face. With the finishing blow, his foe spits out a mouthful of blood and can be seen bleeding a few panels later. There is no attempt to hide any blood or gore in Black Cat, whereas in Sailor Moon the enemy simply melts away and blood is avoided. Whether or not this is intended, the effect is clear: Black Cat attracts viewers who like to see violence without any censorship and Sailor Moon appeals to people who are not as into the depictions of fighting. The difference in length of battle also plays a role in highlighting the scene. The couple pages of fighting in Sailor Moon are dwarfed by the multiple chapters Black Cat uses to play out a fight. This emphasizes the point that one manga is trying to appeal to audiences wanting to see more combat and the other is for readers who prefer less violence. There are also less theatrical acts in Black Cat; Train and his enemy do not shout out their moves before they attack unlike Sailor Moon. This further accentuates how Black Cat readers are used to seeing fighting scenes and do not need to have fights explained, where Sailor Moon

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square (Newby). The absolute absurdity of these statements effectively makes foolery of Jack s quest to marry Gwendolyn through the approval of her mother; in comparison, Wilde effectively makes foolery of the social requirements and specifically the rigid structure of the marriage process as a whole. According to Jen Ziegenfuss in her article Marriage in the Victorian Era, there were certain rules that applied to most marriages during the Victorian era. For example, Victorians were encouraged to marry within the same class; marrying into an upper class was acceptable but marrying down meant marrying an inferior, which brought about a certain degree of shame. Wilde touches on this dilemma with another relationship within the play, the relationship between Miss Prism and Doctor Chausable. Unfortunately, before attending Political Science 110 at Oregon State University, I had little prior knowledge about the details in the United State s government. I was also unsure or did not understand any other types of government, besides democratic. By attending this course, my knowledge about the United Statesgovernment and the details about the government, have expanded. The experience of the Constitution writing stimulation was the most helpful learning tool, to me, for learning and understanding the structures of the United State s government. My group that was for writing the structures of the government all participated equally while creating our views on a democratic government branches; meaning we did not split up into three
  • 54. Analysis Of Sweat And Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston The point of view a story is told in has a significant impact on how the reader perceives the story, the plot, and the characters. Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston, 1978, and Pigeons at Daybreak by Anita Desai, 1926, are both narrated in third person limited omniscient. Although both stories are narrated from the same point of view and both follow the protagonistof the story, the stories portray the main characters as complete opposites. While Delia, the protagonist in Sweat , invokes empathy from the reader, she ultimately is strong and independent. Mr. Basu, the protagonist in Pigeons at Daybreak , invokes frustration and pity from the reader as he is begging for sympathy from his wife. Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston is a story of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story Pigeons at Daybreak the protagonist, Mr. Basu, is portrayed as a very ill man who uses his illness to gain sympathy from his wife who is his sole caretaker. Although she does her best to take care of him and provide him with everything he needs, Mr. Basu is continuously rude and unappreciative toward her. As the story goes on, the narrator continues to portray Mr. Basu in a negative light. For example, when Mrs. Basu reads the newspaper to her husband and he says, You can t be reading right (Desai 221) assuming she is incapable of reading the newspaper, although she is highly educated. Mr. Basu s negative attitude elicits a disapproving review from the reader. Throughout the story, the reader is constantly reminded how self centered and selfish Mr. Basu is, especially as Mrs. Basu begins blaming herself when he becomes overwhelmed and worried. The third person limited omniscient perspective emphasizes the overall theme which is appreciating what others are gifting you with rather than taking advantage of their generosity. It does so by creating a sense of understanding of both Mr. Basu s frustration, and Mrs. Basu s patience. In contrast to Sweat , the third person narrator in Pigeons at Daybreak invokes the reader to feel negatively toward the main character, Mr. Basu, and

The autodefensa movement is a vigilante self defense groups that were brought together in MichoacГЎn to fight against the Caballeros Templarios cartel. The people of MichoacГЎn were sick of the violence, extortions, and how the local and state government were indirectly involved with the drug cartel. The person I interviewed was Ivan who was involved in the autodefensa movement in Tepalcatepec, MichoacГЎn. When I conducted the interview through the phone with Ivan since he was still in Mexico, his responses to the questions such as why you joined the movement were plain, but you can notice in his voice a sense of pride... La Familia Michoacana were known to be really violent. The Familia Michoacana cartel members used murder and torture to suppress other drug cartels, while building a social base in the Mexican state of MichoacГЎn. The Familia Michoacana was a religious cult like Drug Cartel Organization that celebrated family values. For example, in an event that took place in Uruapan in September 2006, the cartel members tossed five severed heads onto the dance floor of the Sol y Sombra night club along with a message that read: The Family doesn t kill for money. It doesn t kill women. It doesn t kill innocent people, only those who deserve to die. Know that this is divine justice. This examples comes to prove that the Familia Michoacana want to publicize an

If needle exchange programs will be banned in United States than it will cause even greater stigma towards needle sharing practices. Even today, in the 21st century due restriction policies and laws against publically available injecting equipment, most people developed a negative attitude towards a needle exchange programs. As was mentioned by Dr. Epidemiol, most of the time individuals that engage in needle sharing practices would not report the fact of needle sharing , even if it indeed occurred. Less drug users would report it because most people feel stigmatized if they tell in public about the act of needle sharing.
