In the 18th century, sending handwritten letters was the main form of
communication. Whether it was to a loved one, relative, or a friend, handwritten
letters was the form it was communicated. In the novel, The Coquette by Hannah
Webster Foster, Eliza was constantly communicating to her friend Lucy through
handwritten letters. However, today with all the technology we have, do you believe
millennials would be able to survive with the form of communication that they used
in the 18th century? I don t believe millennials would be able to survive at all
dealing with social media, e mails, and many other technological aspects.
Back before the internet existed, the main form of communication in the 18th century
was through handwritten letters. Letters were being mailed off and sent back to

Reading models are vital to twenty first centaury classrooms, as they become an
important tool for teachers, that are teaching their students reading as well as
writing(Goodman,1997).Reading ultimately becomes an interaction between what a
reader has learnt, and the information that is already in the text. This essay will be
touching on the top down approach to reading, and how this is a vital tool to twenty
first century classrooms. All the while showing how this is used in classroom
practice. NCTE shows that as society and technology change ,so does literacy. So
therefore the twenty first century demands that students poses a wide range of
abilities as well as competencies, with their literacy. (Peer, 1987) The top down
approach, allows teachers to help students thrive in todays twenty first century
world. It works to teach students to read by slowly introducing them to the

passages of text. The student then is able to begin to use clues to help them

The purpose of this research paper is to examine the many different angles of a
controversial topic such as physician assisted suicide or euthanasia. Physician
assisted suicide (PAS) is when a person kills him or herself and the doctor supplies
the means knowing what the intention is. The doctor prescribes a medication to their
patient in lethal doses. This allows the patient to choose when they want to die. They
can take the pills at home with friends and family present if they wish or they could
peacefully go alone. Euthanasia is lethal injection by a physician. PAS is currently

terminally ill people to choose to die. The Death with Dignity Act was originally
passed in 1994. The law was immediately challenged in court and prevented from
going into effect. As the court cases proceeded, the Oregon Legislature decided the
public did not know what it was doing when it voted and decided to put the issue
back on the ballot in 1997. Oregon Death with Dignity won every court challenge
and on October 27, 1997, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a hearing to challengers of

There are some people who believe that PAS is merely another decision that a
human being should be able to make about their own life. It is peaceful and easy to
prepare for. When a person chooses to die it is most likely because they are
terminally ill. Meaning, they have a disease that will only allow them to live for a
limited amount of time. Some elderly people want to have the option of PAS also.
Sometimes, they grow old and their bodies cannot function the way that they used
