Compare And Contrast The Blind Side And Gattaca
Gattaca is a movie that we watched in class together. It is about a boy who has the dream of
going to outer space. He grows up in a home where he is inferior to his brother, whether it be
physically or mentally. To get into the school that he needed to get into to become an astronaut,
he needed to be a perfect human being. He had to have a perfect IQ; he needed to be a top line
human being that had no flaws. Think of it as him having to be the smartest person in his class.
Eventually his dreams came true due to the help of a couple of friends. This relates to the movie,
The Blind Side, because the main character, Michael Oher, grew up in a broken home. He felt
inferior than everybody else due to the situation that he was in. He... Show more content on

Anton is considered to be worthy of his father s name because he does not have any genetic
flaws. Vincent dreams of a career in space but can t get into the training program due to him
being invalid. The two brothers often play chicken. Both of the brothers swim out into the ocean
and the one to turn around and swim back is the loser. One day, Vincent finally wins a game of
chicken and saves Anton when he starts to drown. After the incident, Vincent runs away from
home. He then works a menial cleaning job at the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation and makes a
plan to gain employment at Gattaca by using DNA samples from an Agent. The agent takes
Vincent to Jerome Eugene Morrow, who is a former star athlete that became paralyzed due to his
suicide attempt after coming second in the swimming world championships. The contract
between them is simple: Marrow will give him his elite genetic status in society while Vincent
will maintain Marrow s luxury lifestyle. To avoid being caught, Vincent must groom and clean
himself every day to avoid leaving traces of his own genetic material and must carry samples of
Jerome s DNA to pass genetic screenings. Vincent excels in Gattaca as soon as he has Jerome s
genetics. Jerome gives Vincent a note to keep on the morning of his launch and tells him to read it
after takeoff after revealing he has created enough D.N.A samples to last Vincent two lifetimes. But
one final genetic test awaits Vincent before

The aim of this project is: To evaluate different ways of aerially measuring the count rate and
collecting spectroscopic data of ~2 MeV emissions from airborne radioactive particulate
contamination. The objectives that will be met in order to achieve the aims are as follows: A
comprehensive literature review will be carried out in order to investigate methods of shielding
and or discriminating against cosmic radiation that are currently used in this field or methods used
in other fields (particle physics, spacecraft design etc.) that could be adapted to this purpose. A
selection process of four ЙЈ ray reduction methods, two muon reduction methods and two neutron
reduction methods will take place (these numbers are arbitrary but have been chosen due to the
time constraints of the project). These eight methods will be modeled using Monte Carlo (MC)
simulations to estimate there sensitivity and resulting background in order to determine their MDA
s. A subset of the most promising modeled methods will be tested experimentally in the lab to
confirm the validity of the models. A conclusion will be drawn as to the best method(s), via the
development and use of a weighted comparison factor. Rationale Existing methodologies of back
ground reduction such as shielding (F.A. Danevich et al., 2007), large coincidence counting
methods or the burying of the detector underground (E.W. Hoppe et al., 2014), each present their

There are different methods for models to emulate surfaces. Usually, the model will choose the
most common surface type in the particular grid box and that is the one that, wins or the model
uses. This means that the model is only represented by that particular type of surface. The other
method is the model finding the average albedo, soil types, surface roughness, and different
characteristics to average out to find what the surface is. However, we parameterize and the
model uses the most frequent type of surface of the year to represent. Initially we don t want to
waste computing power on the different types of surfaces, that is why these two types of
methods for figuring model surfaces is used. 8.Radiation models should be concerned with
melting snow because of the different albedos (shortwave radiation). New bright white snow has
a high albedo, meaning it reflects more incoming solar radiation. Old snow becomes darker and
not as bright over time. This will cause a low albedo where more energy is absorbed. Melting
snow causes part of the ground to be exposed, so this can affect the radiation differently for
portions of the ground that do have snow on it vs. portions of the ground that don t have snow
cover. 9.There are complications when it comes to models dealing with vegetation as one large
plant being the entire surface for the grid box. First of all, this causes effects on the surface and
boundary layer temperatures, moisture, and other forecast factors.

It was a story of a boy who was only 17 when he decides to marry his love one.
He was dodong, and he love teang so much that he could not wait for the right age to settle down
in a relationship that is hard to escape. It s the marriage . At the age of 17 dodong and teang got
married without thinking of the risk being in an uneasy part of life. They just follow what they
feel. They don t think what would happen in their future. They got a child. Teang realized how
hard being a young parent. Her regret of she had done and think, what would be my life if i marry

In addition to that, for six successive years, Dodong and Teang kept having children. At this point,
Teang began to feel unhappy in their marriage. She cried sometimes, wishing she had not married.
She did not tell Dodong this, not wishing him to dislike her. Yet she wished she had not married.
Not even Dodong whom she loved. It is interesting to note here that Teang still claims to love
Dodong despite the hardships they have gone through. It should also be noted that Yet she wished
she had not married, is a sentence that is separated from Not even Dodong whom she loved,
meaning it is the act of marrying at a young age that she regrets, not the fact that it is Dodong
whom she married. Not marrying Dodong was only an after thought.
The story goes on, however, to describe another suitor Teang had, Lucio, who was older than
Dodong by nine years. Lucio had married another after her marriage to Dodong, but he and his
wife were childless until now. If she had married Lucion, she wondered, would she have borne him
children? Maybe not, either. That was a better lot. But she loved Dodong.... Here we are given a
clearer picture about her unhappiness and disappointment.

Language is our main means of communication and learning, without it we would not understand
each other efficiently enough to communicate our needs and thoughts. It is a very complicated
feature of human cognition. Yet children acquire language very naturally and quickly without any
formal instruction. Many language experts such as Chomsky (1965) and Pinker (2000) believe this
suggests that there is some innate predisposal to acquire language, by this it is meant a genetic
mechanism that holds what he calls the universal grammar common to all languages. Noam
Chomskycall s language the human essence (1972). He is a discontinuity theorist, this means he
believes the human brain appears to have an inborn capacity to learn and obtain... Show more

Humans who began to learn language would find it easier to survive and then pass on their
language to their children and so on. Therefore Darwin s theory does not support Chomsky s claim
of humans having an innate predisposal to acquire languages as he believed it was something that
has evolved and then been developed over time, not something that has always been present in our
genetics.
Most animals communicate with one another non verbally, for example some bee species have
very specific and evolved ways of communicating with each other about the location and quality of
food (Winston, 1987, p. 25) or the emperor penguin which uses an intricate set of calls that are very
vital for individual recognition between parents, offspring, and mates, demonstrating a very wide
range of individual calls from all the penguins (Williams 1995, p. 68). As all these forms of
communication appear to be very natural to the species they are relevant to, it suggests they are
easily developed and learnt through the social context the being is in. Perhaps this means that these
forms of communication are innately predisposed to the specific species, which would surely mean
language to be innately governed within humans as it s our way of communication. However one
cannot really compare the communications of animals to humans as the humans have a much
greater mental capacity than that of any other species. Although other species can communicate, the

What Is The Theme Of Cinderella
people just think of books as a form of entertainment, but humans can actually learn from them.
For example: Grimm s version of Cinderella, published in 1812, was a favorite tale among
children in Germany. Disney s reproduction of Cinderella, published in 1950, was a popular movie
among kids in America. Italys translation of Cinderella, published in 1885, was favored story
among families in Italy. In each version of Cinderella, Grimm, Disney, and Italy one greater theme
stands out among all others.
In the Grimm story of Cinderella , there is one vital theme: hate and contempt will get you nowhere
in life, when it is simple to be kind. Furthermore, here is some background information before the
support to this theme. The king announced a festival for his prince to meet a bride, Cinderella s step
mom says to her that she is not coming, she goes to the tree at her mother s grave and asks the
dove there for the same beautiful dress every night, she meets the prince at the ball, loses her
slipper, prince uses the slipper to find Cinderella, and she tries it on and gets engaged to the prince.
In addition to the background information, the support to the theme is when at Cinderella s
wedding, her step sisters get their eyes pecked out, of because of how mean they are to
Cinderella(7). Now, this story was written in Germany in 1812. Correspondingly, the theme was
important to kids during that time in Germany because they didn t have any type of entertainment

In thin layer chromatography a liquid is pumped across a bed of particles. The liquid that is

You can use thin layer chromatography for quantitative analysis to some extent. If you use solutions
of known concentrations and compare the unknown to the standards, then you can gain some
quantitative information. You can also calculate Rf values taking the distance traveled divided by
the total distance of the eluent. After we chopped up our spinach leaf we used hexane and ethanol to
separate out compounds in our leaf. After adding water, we removed the top layer and spotted a
TLC plate to separate out our compounds. We also used a mixture of hexane/ethyl acetate (1:1)
and hexane/ethyl acetate (20:1) to use as our developing solution. The (1:1) solution gave use six
compounds separated out on a TLC plate with xanthophyll being the most polar and carotene
being the least polar. On the other hand, the (20:1) solution gave us one compound that moved
through our TLC plate. Looking at the plate it seems like it is the carotene that moved while
everything else remained near the polar side of the plate. The most polar molecule was
Rhodamine B (bright pink red) then Fast Green (blue) then we had a clear compound show up,
then Bismark Brown (yellow orange) and the least polar compound was Sudan IV

Pericles Argument For A Pro Democratic Government
Part One: Pericles argument for a pro democratic government Pericles argument is that
Democracy is the proper form of government. By Democracy Pericles identifies a variety of
viewpoints. It is asserted by Pericles that citizens should defend their city, by doing so, they are
worthy of such an honor (Pericles, 1). Moreover, by the establishment of a democracyas a form of
governmentprovides the citizens to rule directly instead of ruling through a representative.
Therefore, the decisions are thought out, voted, and agreed on by the citizens as a majority
instead of having one person dictating what is to occur. Furthermore, Pericles asserts that citizens
should fight to defend their city therefore by democracy men are allowed to advance due to merit
instead of privilege (wealth and social class) (Pericles, 7). For this purpose any man with sufficient
capacity to rule is allowed.
Correspondingly, under a democratic regime men are allowed the freedom to act in the manner
they would like without the fear of judgement or retaliation from neighbor s if and only if they
act accordingly within the stated laws provided by the authorities (Pericles, 3). As a result, the
ability to work together for the greater good of the city is accomplish. Democracy may signify
the willingness to sacrifice and defend the city for the cause of a greater good (Pericles, 11).
Those who love and understand this concept are portrayed as honorable men because in order to

Johnson Decision To Americanize The Vietnam War Essay
LBJ s decision to Americanize the war was not wise and well informed, an accurate answer for
U.S. defeat in Vietnam was the decision to Americanize the war. Influencing the belief that Johnson
decision to escalate appeared to have been predetermined; Johnson consistently appeared to be in
favor of increasing military in South Vietnam, and he only needed something to happen in order to
validate his reasoning for the increase of U.S. involvement. This something was the Tonkin Gulf
incident and this event became Johnson s basis to take all necessary measures to repel any armed

incident decision was not well informed. The resolution was the issue of Johnson s authority and
the potential that offensive measures in South Vietnam could lead to a third world war (Young,

ignoring the George Ball about better solutions to help America leave the war. Once again it is the
issue with Johnson s authority, he constantly ignores other possibilities of leaving Vietnam. At the

people around the world since the end of World War II. Otto, her father, was a very well

named Margot, who was two years older. At the time, the country s leader was Adolf Hitler, his
followers that supported him were known as Nazi s . Hitler blamed Germany s economic
disasters on the Jewish people, in order to fix this, he wanted to annex people who practiced the
Jewish faith out of the country. He sent these people to concentration camps, better known as
death camps. It was almost impossible for anyone to survive. The camps consisted of gas
chambers, leading poison into a room killing everyone. The main cause of death was starvation,
and the poor conditions leading to diseases. Throughout the book, she explains how hard it was

All Things Being Equal Essay
All Things Being Equal
Most of us have heard Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream speech, or part of it, at some point
in our lives. In 1964, one year after the speech was given, Lyndon B. Johnson signed Executive
Order 11246, which signaled the birth of affirmative action. Affirmative action refers to efforts to
increase educational and employment opportunities for minorities and women. In November, 1997,
California voters did away with affirmative action [at the state level] by passing proposition 209.
They were convinced that it was no longer needed, that it gave minorities and women special rights.
Governor Pete Wilson wrote in 1996 as part of his campaign against affirmative action:

We are struggling over crumbs because we know that the bigger part hs been received by the elites
in corporate America. (Brunk 331)
An example of this fighting over crumbs is the California proposition 209. White people felt they
were not getting jobs, scholarships, into college, because the jobs, scholarships, etc., were being
given to less qualified people of color. Some people of color were also against affirmative action
because they didn t feel like they made it on their own accord but were hired or admitted to
college, etc., because of their skin color and not because of their merits. This inferiority complex is
shared by Richard Rodriguez, an American essayist and teacher. According to the biographical
sketches in Literacies, Despite his academic success, Rodriguez left the university partly because he
was uncomfortable with advantages he felt he received because of his minority status. (Brunk 697)
To understand affirmative action we must look back in history. According to Cornel West,The
fundamental aim of affirmative action was to put a significant dent in the tightly controlled
networks of privileged white citizens who monopolized the good jobs and influential positions in
American society. (Curry 32)

Myocarditis Research Paper
Myocarditis, a disease attacking the lymphatic system, is inflammation of the heart muscle. It
affects the heart s muscles and lowers the heart s ability to pump, which causes arrhythmias. The
lymphatic, or immune, system does two main things; transport lymph throughout networks of
vessels called lymphatic vessels, and fight off viruses that can harm the body. The body is filled
with lymph nodes, which filter the lymph. They are near the heart, the lungs, and even closer to the
skin (ie armpit). The lymph nodes are scattered almost everywhere between the head and the knees.
Myocarditis is usually found in late adulthood, but can sometimes occur in children. The cause of
this disease isn t always known. However, there are multiple potential causes.... Show more content

There are many viruses that are connected to myocarditis including; the common cold, herpes

bacteria that are linked to myocarditis, a few of which include: streptococcus and staphylococcus.
Another potential cause of myocarditis is parasites. Some of these parasites are transmitted by
insects. This cause is more prevalent in Central and South America but it can occur in travellers.
The final potential cause is fungi. In people with weakened immune systems, yeast infections,

INTRODUCTION
Monetary policy takes central part in discussions on how to promote low inflation and sustainable
growth in the economy. Monetary policy operates as a tool to reduce prices during inflation and
enhance growth in recession times. Its basic objective is improvement of price stability and
achievement of high employment levels in the economy. Thus monetary policy not only fosters
economic prosperity but also safeguards people s welfare.
An understanding of those mechanisms through which monetary policy affects economy is very
crucial for the successful undertaking of monetary policy. There exist a number of crucial channels
that have been identified in this context. These channels are;
1.Interest rate channel
2.Credit channels
пѓ Bank lending channel
пѓ Balance sheet channels
3.Exchange rate channel
4.Equities channels
пѓ Tobin s q theory
пѓ Wealth effects
These channels generally reinforce each other they all move aggregate expenditures in the same
direction. All channels serve to increase aggregate expenditures with expansionary monetary policy
and reduce aggregate expenditures with contractionary monetary policy. This paper seeks to explain

The appearance of a person helps to make a positive impact. The way one looks and presents
oneself indicates the importance one attaches to one s presence or participation in the occasion. (p.
22).
A uniform can identify a professional and implicate a certain level of trust and respect by a client.
However, in the field of dietetics and nutrition there is no particular uniform, therefore choosing
appropriate clothing attire to gain clients trust can be an issue. Therefore, it is identified that The
nursing, medical and communication literature shows that a professional s dress attire is relevant to
client professional interactions because it strongly influences client s perceptions of their
professional s characteristics (Heitmeyer Goldsmith, 1990; Nair et al., 2002, as cited in Cant, 2009,
p. 504). Hence, clothing and adornment can affect client/professional relationships.

My Patient Is A 68 Year Old Indian Male Essay
My patient is a 68 year old Indian male. His health issues include hypertension, Type 2 diabetes,
hyperlipidemia, cellulitis, and insomnia. He has been in the facility for 3 years. My patient s
weight is 156 lbs. and there were no major weight changes for the time he has been in the facility.
My patient needs assistance with either wheelchair or a walker, is able to ambulate with or
without a device. He is not allergic to anything, therefore, no modification to the medication is
needed. The primary the patient is in the facility is because of a foot ulcer. The foot ulcer is
unable to heal at a normal pace because he has diabetes. My patient did not take any medication
prior to admission to the facility. One of the diagnosis included hypertensionalso known as high
blood pressure. If not treated over time hypertension can cause heart disease and stroke. In
order, to lower blood pressure a person can consume a healthy diet with less salt, exercise daily
and take their medication. Usually, if a person s blood pressure is above 140/90 mmHg they are
considered to have high blood pressure. My patient takes Lisinopril, it decreases blood pressure
in hypertension, decrease preload, and afterload in cognitive heart failure. The only use for this is
when a person has mild to moderate hypertension. Precautions for those who should not take this if
you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have renal disease. An adult can take this by mouth 10 40 mg

Try as Samuel might there was no understanding his life with Valarie. He never really knew that

How could two people so important in Valarie s life do such a thing to her? Marlene was

Managing Employee Retention and Turnover Essay
Managing Employee Retention and Turnover
Employee retention has always been an important focus for human resource managers. Once a
company has invested time and money to recruit and train a good employee, it is in their own best
interest to retain that employee, to further develop and motivate him so that he continues to provide
value to the organization. But, employers must also recognize and tend to what is in the best
interest of their employees, if they intend to keep them. When a company overlooks the needs of its
employees and focuses only on the needs of the organization, turnover often results. Excessive
turnover in an organization is a prime indicator that something is not right in the employee
environment. We will look at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

marketable. It gives them a sense of job security. In today s workplace, the more training

employees who say their company offers poor training, 41 percent plan to leave within a year,

Have you ever wondered what it would it feel like to walk inside and see the beautiful architect in

Shakespeare s plays still occur there every day. The Globe theatrewas built in 1599 in Southwark,

The 2nd Globe Theatre was built in June of 1614 in the same spot the 1st Globe Theatre was
located. This Theatre stood all the way up until the year of 1644 when the Puritans closed down
all theatres. Instead of leaving the site empty apartment buildings were built where the 2nd Globe
theatre was. Finally the 3rd Globe theatre was built in 1996 and opened in 1997. This Globe
Theatre was built approximately 225 yards from the original Globe Theatre. The 3rd Globe
Theatre is still standing today and is visited by thousands of people each day.
Now you would think that the First and Last Globe theatre would be totally different but really
that are only a few differences. For instance, the first Globe Theatre had a flag on top of the
heaven but the Third doesn t. The theatre today has bright posters hanging in the hallways now
for advertisement and the 1st theatre did not. The new theatre doubles for a brothel. This is
where the biggest gamble to be had depends if the play being performed will be a success with
the audience or fail. But one similarity between the 2 is they both have the same style. How you
may ask. Well, when the beginning of building of the 3rd Globe theatre, the workers found old
pieces of the 2nd globe theatre. So the workers and architects took those pieces and designed the
new Globe theatre by what was left of the old one. There were probably some more differences
between the two, but both are so extraordinary that it really

The neuro developmental effects of these chemicals are comparatively well known, while their
impact on human conduct has yet to be fully comprehended.
2. Goals of the study The main goal of this study was to review all of the placebo controlled single
hormone administration studies addressing human social emotional behavior, involving the
peptides oxytocin and vasopressin, and the steroids testosterone and estradiol. This research gives
insight into the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial hormonal control
over human behavior. After reviewing and discussing the placebo controlled studies, they proposed
a theoretical model that synthesized detailed knowledge of neuroendocrinology of social emotional
behavior in animals, as well as the recently gained data on humans. The study of emotional and
behavioral disorders have become more popular in the last twenty years. Characteristics of these
irregularities include: learning disabilities that are not explainable by either sensory, health, or
intellectual factors; persistently inappropriate feelings and conduct; and/or chronic unhappiness or
depression (gadoe.org). The authors of this study thoroughly analyzed the underlying neural
mechanisms of supplemental hormones and how they affect participants as opposed to using a
placebo. Research into human behavior as it relates to neuroendocrinology will be crucial to future
generations and their interrelations.

Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick Essay
Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick
One might think it a difficult task to find a tragic hero hidden in the pages of Moby Dick. Yet,
there is certainly potential for viewing Ahab as heroic despite unfavorable responses to him by the
reader.
In the original formula coming from the Greeks, the tragic hero had to be a high born individual of
elevated status possessed of a fatal flaw which resulted in their downfall. With Othello
Shakespeare redefined elevated status to include position alone rather than being linked to societal
or birth status. In this way it was possible for Othello as the military leader to be the tragic hero
despite being an outsider in the composition of the society. Melville follows this example in Moby
Dick. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flaw itself [is] a pride that challenges the very nature of things . . . (Millhauser 76). Ahab,
deluded by the prophecies of Fedallah, comes to view himself as immortal, able to overcome
anything. Within the dramatic tradition, the heroic idea of being above everything else is a
recurring theme. Ahab s flaw, akin to madness . . . involves equally Ahab s imposing spiritual
stature and his inexorable fate (Millhauser 76). Ahab is blinded by his pride which prevents him
from seeing any other path of action or alternative meanings for events that occur other than the one
he chooses to fit with his monomaniacal pursuit of Moby Dick.
These two areas of elevated position and a fatal character flaw as outlined by Millhauser and
Melville, within the novel itself, distinctly set Ahab off as a potentially heroic character. Ahab is
driven to a confrontation with his adversary by a force never clearly spelled out for the reader.
However, much is made of the loomings of fate in the lives of men. Further reference is made to
the prophecy of Fedallah. Because we pick up the story near the end (from Ahab s perspective), it
is difficult to ascertain his full motivations. Along with this fact, it becomes difficult to determine
whether Ahab is shaping or controlling his own destiny or not. Moby Dick is Ahab s nemesis.
Again Melville is never clear in spelling out how the white whale is to be interpreted.

The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction
The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth
is estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving
life from simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single
celled organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years,
cyanobacteria began to produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home.
However through this course of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the
most recent mass extinctions, has as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the
creatures which roamed the Earth at that time. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a
very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The
name of this extinction was the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place
roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the
life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to
this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to
occur was an impact of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression is considered to
be the blame for the extinction. Sea level regression is the drop of sea levels which aids to explain
the marine mass extinction, however

Before the sunrise, when the world is still asleep, my father awakens me by the rich roasted strong

Summary Of A Passage Of India By Quot. Forster
A Passage to India, written by E.M. Forster, is a story of human relations between the British
colonists and the people of India. Dr. Aziz, a native Indian and main character in the novel, is
extremely frustrated of the way others think about these two cultures together. Some may say it s
the position of superiority the British hold that the Indians perceive as degrading. Throughout the
novel there is a clear tension between the natives and the colonists that relate to both fictional and
historical events. There are several events that occur that demonstrate this cultural division. One
event, for example, is when Aziz first meets Mrs. Moore, who is an elderly Englishwoman, and
after they chat for awhile, he escorts her to a club that is strictly labeled whites only. In the mean
time, the Indians are forced to stay outside as if some type of a subhuman being. It is this type of
segregation that has been see in history time and time again that leads to racial tension. Its simply a
problem of education because those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. In every culture
, civilization, habitat, or locality, there is, or has been, some form of discrimination at hand. From
what I ve experienced, I believe it is solely based off of change of normality. For instance, when
British colonists first arrived in the New World, Native Americans had already owned the land. To
the natives, this flood of immigrants was their cultural change. Had they not all been massacred and

The Deconstruction Of Mentor Texts Essay
Each of the three cycles included one initial draft writing session, one elaborating ideas session and
one changing vocabulary session. Each of the inquiry cycles had a different authentic context and
topic focus and each session involved links to reading programme (Appendix ?). Although text
structure and topic knowledge was not an explicit focus of the intervention, it is recognised as an
essential foundation of expert writing. Therefore the deconstruction of mentor texts, analysis of text

ensuring their writing provide their audience with appropriate, specific and depth of information.
The changing vocabulary sessions focused on identifying common words and replacing or adding

The Five Twenty By John Cheever
The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever is a fantastically told story about a
mentally ill woman done wrong by a successful man and how she gets her vengeance. The story
is both thrilling and satisfying. Elements are what make any story what it is, from the complex
characters to worry for and grow with, to the conflict keeping the reader on the edge of their
seat, mind racing at how it will be resolved. All of the elements made this story a good read, but
in this case one stands out in particular. The setting really give this story the excitement and
thought provoking substance that could enthrall anybody. The setting proves to be so important
it controls character actions. Everything that happens is determined on the setting of this story.
This literary work is started out with a setting of New York on a rainy, gloomy day. New York is
known to be an exciting city that never sleeps, full of successful people such as Blake, the main
character, or people struggling just to get by, like Miss Dent. The city being so crowded and
loud makes it hard for people to really think and calm themselves down. He noticed now how
much louder the rain made the noises of the street... horns were blowing urgently... The sidewalk
was crowded... he wondered if she was following him. (Cheever 2) Even on these rainy days the
streets are still full of sounds and people. These many noises give Blake a serious case of paranoia.
Blake saw Miss Dent earlier and now the many distractions around

Cognitive behavioral therapy treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder The Diagnostic and

experience of near death or bodily harm (American Psychiatric Association. 2013). Evidence based
therapy that has shown positive outcomes in cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) which is based on

if applied in addition to CBT. Joseph stated that a client centered approach to PTSD could result in
Post traumatic growth (2004). Post traumatic growth does not try to bring the client back to the
original state before the trauma but bring the client beyond their previous level of functioning
(Joseph, 2004). When a person experiences a trauma, they can have a myriad of emotions, it is the
therapist responsibility to help the client make better sense of the issue and continue functioning in
a normal manner. Not all traumas are alike and not all clients can be treated equally. The most
significant aspect of treatment in helping this type of client is the approach the therapist takes
which should include the temperament of the client and the goals the client seeks. Included here is

A close up camera shot of Josie s languishing facial expression as John s body passes by, suggests
the inner emotional turmoil she is experiencing, yet simultaneously the passing coffin signifies
her acceptance of him slowly moving away from her, out of her life. The idea of her acceptance
of John s death is further reinforced at the end of the scene through Woods use of symbolism.
The subsequent shredding of his letter, followed by the release of the pieces out of the window
symbolically serve to represent her letting go as well as allowing John the freedom that he has
always longed for. Josie s feelings of isolation and separation following John s death are captured
during the bus ride scene where a closeup camera shot of Josie s facial expression is juxtaposed to

cause a change in a person and her or his status, usually brought about or related to increasing age
(Peoples, Bailey). Almost every culture has rituals that signal a change in life. Marriage is one of the
most common rites of passage in any culture. Weddings and marriage ceremonies are clear
transitions from adolescence to adulthood. Some form of marriage is known to have existed in
all human societies. Its traditional function in most of these societies has been to stabilize sexual
relations and to unite a man and a woman in order to provide care for the young. In addition,
marriage has linked and allowed for economic exchanges between different kin groups and has
served as the primary coming of age ritual for women (Nelson). In America we are known for
throwing lavish ceremonies and expensive parties to celebrate the union between two people. I ve
attended quite a few weddings and participated in one during my lifetime thus far. Most weddings
in the American culture follow the same itinerary.
Before a wedding ceremony is thought of or takes place the couple preparing for marriage usually
separate from their families and begin to make a home together. During the separation phase from
each of his or her families an engagement occurs. A typical engagement consists of the man

How Does Obierika Change In Things Fall Apart
When the Walls Start Crumbling That man was one of the greatest men in Umuofia. You drove
him to kill himself; and now he will be buried like a dog. . . . He could not say anymore. His
voice trembled and choked his words. (Achebe 208). In the novel, Things Fall Apart, Achebe
portrays Okonkwo in a manner above everyone else, as . . . . One of the greatest men in Umuofia.
. . . (208). However, A person is only as strong as the person standing next to them, and in Okonkwo
s case that person is Obierika. In the novel, Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo is a symbol of the first
barrier against this new culture, and after he fell Obierika started to crumble. Obierika was a strong,
successful, and wise man. In, Things Fall Apart, Achebe portrays him... Show more content on

However, leading up to the last few pages of the book you start to see a change coming with in
Obierika. Okonkwo starts to become even more irrational than before, and you can see how this
upsets Obierika. Then you see how the story takes a turn and Okonkwo s irrationality causes him
to kill himself and this is the tipping point for Obierika. Chinua Achebe does a great job
portraying Obierika as this rock for Okonkwo all throughout the book, and then at the very end
you realize how much Obierika relied on his friend Okonkwo, this is shown when it said,
Obierika, who had been gazing Steadily at his friend s dangling body, turned suddenly to the
District Commissioner and said ferociously: That man was one of the greatest men in Umuofia.
You drove him to kill himself; and now he will be buried like a dog. . . . He could not say
anymore. His voice trembled and choked his words. (208). Obierika is typically a very calm and
collected man, always in thought about his next move. However, after the death of his friend you
watch as his composer falls apart. His friend was the first barrier against this new culture and
Obierika followed right behind him. But, when the first wall falls it topples over the other and then

Why Is Samsung To Achieve Global Competitive Advantage
Question 1 (40 Marks)
Critically analyze and discuss the strategy adopted by Samsung to achieve global competitive
Advantage. (500 words)
Answer 1
To understand how Samsung achieved global competitive advantage we first need to understand
what do we mean by Strategy ?
At the business unit level, strategy is a set of management decisions concerning which customers to
target and what to offer them. (European Business Forum, 2007)1
Strategy is a concept that focuses on long term objectives of a firm keeping in view the changes
that take place in the business environment and the possible implications that it has on the firm.
Thus, a dominant and well structured strategy plays a very important element in capturing
competitive advantage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason being that the company didn t depend upon its organizational members or managers to
act rationally and take decisions. Rather the firm was highly determined on revising its product
design in order to achieve global competitive advantage. The processual strategy states that
organizations whose products are genuinely better can outwit their competitors. In a similar manner
Samsung also came out with a variety of convergence products which gave the firm an extra boost
of competitive edge. For instance, Samsung launched 5 and 7 mega pixel camera phones in 2005
along with a 10 mega pixel camera in 2005. It also launched the SGH i310, a phone with a
capacity of 8 GB that could easily store about 2,000 MP3 files. By offering products that were
completely different and unique with respect to their design, features, quality etc. Samsung soon
occupied a major share in the electronics market. The systemic school sees strategy as constrained
and shaped by the socio economic systems in which it is embedded. (Small Business Economics,
Jan 2009)3 Samsung along with the processual strategy also adopts the systemic theory of strategy.
In that the company aligns its activities and products with the social systems that the firm interacts
with for instance cultural, political, social etc. Samsung functions in an environment that is highly

The Effects Of Deep Breathing Exercises On The Prevention...
PICO question: How does the use of incentive spirometers compare to the use of deep breathing
exercises in the prevention of pulmonary complications in post operative, hospitalized patients?
Background and Rationale: Currently, postoperative pulmonary complications account for about
25% of deaths occurring within 6 days of surgery, (Yoder, M 2015). Post operative pulmonary
complications (PPCs) are of major concern due to the increased length of hospital stays and high
rates of occurrence and death as a result. Those at greater risk of developing a pulmonary
complication include preexisting lung disease, medical comorbidities, poor nutritional status,
overall poor health, and in those who smoke. (Yoder, M, 2015.) The type of surgery the patient is
having also affects the risk. Complications include, but are not limited to, pneumonia,
bronchospasm, respiratory failure and prolonged mechanical ventilation. The development of such
complications negatively affects the expected outcomes for patients. The basic mechanism of PPCs
is a lack of lung inflation that occurs because of a change in breathing to a shallow, monotonous
breathing pattern without periodic sighs, prolonged recumbent positioning and temporary
diaphragmatic dysfunction. Mucociliary clearance along with the decreased cough effectiveness,
increases risks associated with retained pulmonary secretions, (Overend, T., Anderson, C., Lucy, S.,
Bhatia, C., Jonsson, B., Timmermans, C., 2001). Currently,

My Opinions On Same Sex Marriage Debate
My Opinions In The Same Sex Marriage Debate
(First Year Composition Essay 2/6)
By Wesley Whitley
Same Sex marriage has been a huge topic in recent days, weeks, months, and years. One by one
numerous countries and states have realized that the right to marry is exactly that a RIGHT!
But still so many fight against it through reasons of religion, fear of the unknown, or just to be
hateful. Left and right they ve tried every way possible to keep loving couples (some with
children, either adopted or born via surrogacy) from getting to say This is my husband or this is
my wife , share a last name, stand before their friends, family, and God (or whatever higher power
in which they believe) and say This man/woman is my forever. , and even more seriously, have
access to the legal benefits of marriage that are too many to mention in this moment but each is
something that many opposite sex couples take for granted every day. I, being a Christian and a
gay man who hopes to one day say I do to the man God blesses me to have, have heard both sides
of the story numerous times in many different ways and have noticed the main arguments used
against this issue seem to consist of It goes against the definition of a traditional marriage , It will
destroy all marriages , and It endangers children/will decrease the population . All of these
arguments, in context and lack of research into the opposite side, do seem do have some play in
this matter but when you look at what the

The Nfl Is Exempt From Paying Taxes
As of 2014, the NFL operates as a non profit organization the NFL is exempt from paying taxes.
However, even though the Carolina Panthers is under the NFL, it is operating as a for profit
business (Patrick Doyle 2014). Therefore, like all for profit businesses, the Panthers should ideally
generate a profitable income to continue operating. As a result, the Panthers financial health or
future earnings is a quantitative criteria we included in our recommendation.
In 2013, the Panthers not only generated $283 million in revenue but also incurred over $150
million in costs (Statista 2014). Due to the Panthers amazing playoffs in the previous years, Forbes
Valuation before Greg Hardy s incident has projected the Panthers ... Show more content on

According to the table, sponsorships, merchandise, and ticket sales account for 60 percent of the
Panthers earnings. In our analysis, we conservatively assumed that Greg Hardy s domestic violence
incident will directly reduce the above mentioned revenue sources.
Greg Hardy s Effect on Panthers Sponsorships
Ever since Greg Hardy s recent domestic violence incident, most of the Panthers major corporate
sponsors (Bank of America, PepsiCo, MillerCoors, Carolinas Medical Center, Anheuser Busch
InBev, and U.S. Airways) issued their statements of disapproval and urged the team to address this
issue appropriately.
Although Erik Spanberg and Adam O Daniel (2014) stated that none of the Panthers financial
sponsors will likely pull away from their donations, these major corporate sponsors don t want to
further tarnish their reputation with the NFL s bad publicity. Nonetheless, if a NFL s future
decision regarding domestic violence, a widely debated topic in the NFL, generates more negative
publicity, these major corporations are willing to stop sponsoring their teams. For example, due to
the Adrian Peterson s famous domestic violence and child abuse case, major sponsor Nike issued the
following statement:
Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and has shared our concerns
with the NFL. We have suspended our contract with Adrian Peterson (Molly Geary 2014).
From referencing precedents on sponsors

  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Blind Side And Gattaca Gattaca is a movie that we watched in class together. It is about a boy who has the dream of going to outer space. He grows up in a home where he is inferior to his brother, whether it be physically or mentally. To get into the school that he needed to get into to become an astronaut, he needed to be a perfect human being. He had to have a perfect IQ; he needed to be a top line human being that had no flaws. Think of it as him having to be the smartest person in his class. Eventually his dreams came true due to the help of a couple of friends. This relates to the movie, The Blind Side, because the main character, Michael Oher, grew up in a broken home. He felt inferior than everybody else due to the situation that he was in. He... Vincent dreams of a career in space but can t get into the training program due to him being invalid. The two brothers often play chicken. Both of the brothers swim out into the ocean and the one to turn around and swim back is the loser. One day, Vincent finally wins a game of chicken and saves Anton when he starts to drown. After the incident, Vincent runs away from home. He then works a menial cleaning job at the Gattaca Aerospace Corporation and makes a plan to gain employment at Gattaca by using DNA samples from an Agent. The agent takes Vincent to Jerome Eugene Morrow, who is a former star athlete that became paralyzed due to his suicide attempt after coming second in the swimming world championships. The contract between them is simple: Marrow will give him his elite genetic status in society while Vincent will maintain Marrow s luxury lifestyle. To avoid being caught, Vincent must groom and clean himself every day to avoid leaving traces of his own genetic material and must carry samples of Jerome s DNA to pass genetic screenings. Vincent excels in Gattaca as soon as he has Jerome s genetics. Jerome gives Vincent a note to keep on the morning of his launch and tells him to read it after takeoff after revealing he has created enough D.N.A samples to last Vincent two lifetimes. But one final genetic test awaits Vincent before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of this project is: To evaluate different ways of aerially measuring the count rate and collecting spectroscopic data of ~2 MeV emissions from airborne radioactive particulate contamination. The objectives that will be met in order to achieve the aims are as follows: A comprehensive literature review will be carried out in order to investigate methods of shielding and or discriminating against cosmic radiation that are currently used in this field or methods used in other fields (particle physics, spacecraft design etc.) that could be adapted to this purpose. A selection process of four ЙЈ ray reduction methods, two muon reduction methods and two neutron reduction methods will take place (these numbers are arbitrary but have been chosen due to the time constraints of the project). These eight methods will be modeled using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations to estimate there sensitivity and resulting background in order to determine their MDA s. A subset of the most promising modeled methods will be tested experimentally in the lab to confirm the validity of the models. A conclusion will be drawn as to the best method(s), via the development and use of a weighted comparison factor. Rationale Existing methodologies of back ground reduction such as shielding (F.A. Danevich et al., 2007), large coincidence counting methods or the burying of the detector underground (E.W. Hoppe et al., 2014), each present their own difficulties and limitations in the ... Usually, the model will choose the most common surface type in the particular grid box and that is the one that, wins or the model uses. This means that the model is only represented by that particular type of surface. The other method is the model finding the average albedo, soil types, surface roughness, and different characteristics to average out to find what the surface is. However, we parameterize and the model uses the most frequent type of surface of the year to represent. Initially we don t want to waste computing power on the different types of surfaces, that is why these two types of methods for figuring model surfaces is used. 8.Radiation models should be concerned with melting snow because of the different albedos (shortwave radiation). New bright white snow has a high albedo, meaning it reflects more incoming solar radiation. Old snow becomes darker and not as bright over time. This will cause a low albedo where more energy is absorbed. Melting snow causes part of the ground to be exposed, so this can affect the radiation differently for portions of the ground that do have snow on it vs. portions of the ground that don t have snow cover. 9.There are complications when it comes to models dealing with vegetation as one large plant being the entire surface for the grid box. First of all, this causes effects on the surface and boundary layer temperatures, moisture, and other forecast factors. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet she wished she had not married. Not even Dodong whom she loved. It is interesting to note here that Teang still claims to love Dodong despite the hardships they have gone through. It should also be noted that Yet she wished she had not married, is a sentence that is separated from Not even Dodong whom she loved, meaning it is the act of marrying at a young age that she regrets, not the fact that it is Dodong whom she married. Not marrying Dodong was only an after thought. The story goes on, however, to describe another suitor Teang had, Lucio, who was older than Dodong by nine years. Lucio had married another after her marriage to Dodong, but he and his wife were childless until now. If she had married Lucion, she wondered, would she have borne him children? Maybe not, either. Language is our main means of communication and learning, without it we would not understand each other efficiently enough to communicate our needs and thoughts. It is a very complicated feature of human cognition. Yet children acquire language very naturally and quickly without any formal instruction. Many language experts such as Chomsky (1965) and Pinker (2000) believe this suggests that there is some innate predisposal to acquire language, by this it is meant a genetic mechanism that holds what he calls the universal grammar common to all languages. Noam Chomskycall s language the human essence (1972). He is a discontinuity theorist, this means he believes the human brain appears to have an inborn capacity to learn and obtain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans who began to learn language would find it easier to survive and then pass on their language to their children and so on. Therefore Darwin s theory does not support Chomsky s claim of humans having an innate predisposal to acquire languages as he believed it was something that has evolved and then been developed over time, not something that has always been present in our genetics. Most animals communicate with one another non verbally, for example some bee species have very specific and evolved ways of communicating with each other about the location and quality of food (Winston, 1987, p. 25) or the emperor penguin which uses an intricate set of calls that are very vital for individual recognition between parents, offspring, and mates, demonstrating a very wide range of individual calls from all the penguins (Williams 1995, p. 68). As all these forms of communication appear to be very natural to the species they are relevant to, it suggests they are easily developed and learnt through the social context the being is in. Perhaps this means that these forms of communication are innately predisposed to the specific species, which would surely mean language to be innately governed within humans as it s our way of communication. However one cannot really compare the communications of animals to humans as the humans have a much greater mental capacity than that of any other species. Although other species can communicate, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example: Grimm s version of Cinderella, published in 1812, was a favorite tale among children in Germany. Disney s reproduction of Cinderella, published in 1950, was a popular movie among kids in America. Italys translation of Cinderella, published in 1885, was favored story among families in Italy. In each version of Cinderella, Grimm, Disney, and Italy one greater theme stands out among all others. In the Grimm story of Cinderella , there is one vital theme: hate and contempt will get you nowhere in life, when it is simple to be kind. Furthermore, here is some background information before the support to this theme. The king announced a festival for his prince to meet a bride, Cinderella s step mom says to her that she is not coming, she goes to the tree at her mother s grave and asks the dove there for the same beautiful dress every night, she meets the prince at the ball, loses her slipper, prince uses the slipper to find Cinderella, and she tries it on and gets engaged to the prince. In addition to the background information, the support to the theme is when at Cinderella s wedding, her step sisters get their eyes pecked out, of because of how mean they are to Cinderella(7). Now, this story was written in Germany in 1812. Correspondingly, the theme was important to kids during that time in Germany because they didn t have any type of entertainment during ... By Democracy Pericles identifies a variety of viewpoints. It is asserted by Pericles that citizens should defend their city, by doing so, they are worthy of such an honor (Pericles, 1). Moreover, by the establishment of a democracyas a form of governmentprovides the citizens to rule directly instead of ruling through a representative. Therefore, the decisions are thought out, voted, and agreed on by the citizens as a majority instead of having one person dictating what is to occur. Furthermore, Pericles asserts that citizens should fight to defend their city therefore by democracy men are allowed to advance due to merit instead of privilege (wealth and social class) (Pericles, 7). For this purpose any man with sufficient capacity to rule is allowed. Correspondingly, under a democratic regime men are allowed the freedom to act in the manner they would like without the fear of judgement or retaliation from neighbor s if and only if they act accordingly within the stated laws provided by the authorities (Pericles, 3). As a result, the ability to work together for the greater good of the city is accomplish. This research gives insight into the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial hormonal control over human behavior. After reviewing and discussing the placebo controlled studies, they proposed a theoretical model that synthesized detailed knowledge of neuroendocrinology of social emotional behavior in animals, as well as the recently gained data on humans. • 27. Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick Essay Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick One might think it a difficult task to find a tragic hero hidden in the pages of Moby Dick. Yet, there is certainly potential for viewing Ahab as heroic despite unfavorable responses to him by the reader. In the original formula coming from the Greeks, the tragic hero had to be a high born individual of elevated status possessed of a fatal flaw which resulted in their downfall. With Othello Shakespeare redefined elevated status to include position alone rather than being linked to societal or birth status. In this way it was possible for Othello as the military leader to be the tragic hero despite being an outsider in the composition of the society. Melville follows this example in Moby Dick. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flaw itself [is] a pride that challenges the very nature of things . . . (Millhauser 76). Ahab, deluded by the prophecies of Fedallah, comes to view himself as immortal, able to overcome anything. Within the dramatic tradition, the heroic idea of being above everything else is a recurring theme. Ahab s flaw, akin to madness . . . involves equally Ahab s imposing spiritual stature and his inexorable fate (Millhauser 76). Ahab is blinded by his pride which prevents him from seeing any other path of action or alternative meanings for events that occur other than the one he chooses to fit with his monomaniacal pursuit of Moby Dick. These two areas of elevated position and a fatal character flaw as outlined by Millhauser and Melville, within the novel itself, distinctly set Ahab off as a potentially heroic character. Ahab is driven to a confrontation with his adversary by a force never clearly spelled out for the reader. However, much is made of the loomings of fate in the lives of men. Further reference is made to the prophecy of Fedallah. Because we pick up the story near the end (from Ahab s perspective), it is difficult to ascertain his full motivations. Along with this fact, it becomes difficult to determine whether Ahab is shaping or controlling his own destiny or not. Moby Dick is Ahab s nemesis. Again Melville is never clear in spelling out how the white whale is to be interpreted. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Summary Of A Passage Of India By Quot. Forster A Passage to India, written by E.M. Forster, is a story of human relations between the British colonists and the people of India. Dr. Aziz, a native Indian and main character in the novel, is extremely frustrated of the way others think about these two cultures together. Some may say it s the position of superiority the British hold that the Indians perceive as degrading. Throughout the novel there is a clear tension between the natives and the colonists that relate to both fictional and historical events. There are several events that occur that demonstrate this cultural division. One event, for example, is when Aziz first meets Mrs. Moore, who is an elderly Englishwoman, and after they chat for awhile, he escorts her to a club that is strictly labeled whites only. In the mean time, the Indians are forced to stay outside as if some type of a subhuman being. It is this type of segregation that has been see in history time and time again that leads to racial tension. Its simply a problem of education because those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. Almost every culture has rituals that signal a change in life. Marriage is one of the most common rites of passage in any culture. Weddings and marriage ceremonies are clear transitions from adolescence to adulthood. Some form of marriage is known to have existed in all human societies. Its traditional function in most of these societies has been to stabilize sexual relations and to unite a man and a woman in order to provide care for the young. In addition, marriage has linked and allowed for economic exchanges between different kin groups and has served as the primary coming of age ritual for women (Nelson). In America we are known for throwing lavish ceremonies and expensive parties to celebrate the union between two people. The reason being that the company didn t depend upon its organizational members or managers to act rationally and take decisions. Rather the firm was highly determined on revising its product design in order to achieve global competitive advantage. The processual strategy states that organizations whose products are genuinely better can outwit their competitors. In a similar manner Samsung also came out with a variety of convergence products which gave the firm an extra boost of competitive edge. For instance, Samsung launched 5 and 7 mega pixel camera phones in 2005 along with a 10 mega pixel camera in 2005. It also launched the SGH i310, a phone with a capacity of 8 GB that could easily store about 2,000 MP3 files. • 41. The Effects Of Deep Breathing Exercises On The Prevention... PICO question: How does the use of incentive spirometers compare to the use of deep breathing exercises in the prevention of pulmonary complications in post operative, hospitalized patients? Background and Rationale: Currently, postoperative pulmonary complications account for about 25% of deaths occurring within 6 days of surgery, (Yoder, M 2015). Post operative pulmonary complications (PPCs) are of major concern due to the increased length of hospital stays and high rates of occurrence and death as a result. Those at greater risk of developing a pulmonary complication include preexisting lung disease, medical comorbidities, poor nutritional status, overall poor health, and in those who smoke. (Yoder, M, 2015.) The type of surgery the patient is having also affects the risk. Complications include, but are not limited to, pneumonia, bronchospasm, respiratory failure and prolonged mechanical ventilation. The development of such complications negatively affects the expected outcomes for patients. The basic mechanism of PPCs is a lack of lung inflation that occurs because of a change in breathing to a shallow, monotonous breathing pattern without periodic sighs, prolonged recumbent positioning and temporary diaphragmatic dysfunction. Mucociliary clearance along with the decreased cough effectiveness, increases risks associated with retained pulmonary secretions, (Overend, T., Anderson, C., Lucy, S., Bhatia, C., Jonsson, B., Timmermans, C., 2001). • 42. My Opinions On Same Sex Marriage Debate My Opinions In The Same Sex Marriage Debate (First Year Composition Essay 2/6) By Wesley Whitley Same Sex marriage has been a huge topic in recent days, weeks, months, and years. One by one numerous countries and states have realized that the right to marry is exactly that a RIGHT! But still so many fight against it through reasons of religion, fear of the unknown, or just to be hateful. Left and right they ve tried every way possible to keep loving couples (some with children, either adopted or born via surrogacy) from getting to say This is my husband or this is my wife , share a last name, stand before their friends, family, and God (or whatever higher power in which they believe) and say This man/woman is my forever. , and even more seriously, have access to the legal benefits of marriage that are too many to mention in this moment but each is something that many opposite sex couples take for granted every day. I, being a Christian and a gay man who hopes to one day say I do to the man God blesses me to have, have heard both sides of the story numerous times in many different ways and have noticed the main arguments used against this issue seem to consist of It goes against the definition of a traditional marriage , It will destroy all marriages , and It endangers children/will decrease the population . All of these arguments, in context and lack of research into the opposite side, do seem do have some play in this matter but when you look at what the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Nfl Is Exempt From Paying Taxes As of 2014, the NFL operates as a non profit organization the NFL is exempt from paying taxes. However, even though the Carolina Panthers is under the NFL, it is operating as a for profit business (Patrick Doyle 2014). Therefore, like all for profit businesses, the Panthers should ideally generate a profitable income to continue operating. As a result, the Panthers financial health or future earnings is a quantitative criteria we included in our recommendation. In 2013, the Panthers not only generated $283 million in revenue but also incurred over $150 million in costs (Statista 2014). Due to the Panthers amazing playoffs in the previous years, Forbes Valuation before Greg Hardy s incident has projected the Panthers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the table, sponsorships, merchandise, and ticket sales account for 60 percent of the Panthers earnings. In our analysis, we conservatively assumed that Greg Hardy s domestic violence incident will directly reduce the above mentioned revenue sources. Greg Hardy s Effect on Panthers Sponsorships Ever since Greg Hardy s recent domestic violence incident, most of the Panthers major corporate sponsors (Bank of America, PepsiCo, MillerCoors, Carolinas Medical Center, Anheuser Busch InBev, and U.S. Airways) issued their statements of disapproval and urged the team to address this issue appropriately. Although Erik Spanberg and Adam O Daniel (2014) stated that none of the Panthers financial sponsors will likely pull away from their donations, these major corporate sponsors don t want to further tarnish their reputation with the NFL s bad publicity. Nonetheless, if a NFL s future decision regarding domestic violence, a widely debated topic in the NFL, generates more negative publicity, these major corporations are willing to stop sponsoring their teams. For example, due to the Adrian Peterson s famous domestic violence and child abuse case, major sponsor Nike issued the following statement: Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and has shared our concerns with the NFL. We have suspended our contract with Adrian Peterson (Molly Geary 2014). From referencing precedents on sponsors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
