This document outlines a dissertation proposal that will examine the relationship between open borders, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration. The purpose is to conduct a quantitative case study using data from 2010-2021 from California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. The independent variable is open borders and dependent variables are illegal immigration and drug trafficking. The study will use publicly available databases and apply ANOVA analysis to determine if there is a relationship between the variables while addressing limitations like omitted variable bias. The problem addressed is the lack of border control potentially enabling illegal activities like drug trafficking and immigration.

Ronald’s Post:
Identify the global societal issue you have chosen to research for your Final Paper, an argumentative essay, and explain why further research on this topic is important.
The global societal issue I have chosen to research for my final paper is Climate change. Further research is needed because many things can cause change to the climate, which is why it is essential to choose a subtopic of climate change. The subtopic that I have chosen is the oil industry’s problem between profits and CO2 emissions. The oil industry is trying to meet demand but also causing change to the climate through emissions. More research is needed to develop points and evidence, which are needed for both sides of the argument. Research is also necessary to create a possible solution.
Provide a clear and concise thesis statement that includes a solution to the global societal issue (see Writing a Thesis Statement (Links to an external site.) for assistance).
Carbon Dioxide emissions emitted by oil companies contribute to climate change, and a possible solution is providing oil companies bonuses or tax exemptions for exceeding emission regulations.
Explain how this global societal issue impacts a specific population.
The global societal issue of climate change impacts the entire world population. There are oil and natural gas companies all around the world meeting the growing demand of oil and gas. There is not one specific population that this global issue impacts.
Locate a peer-reviewed scholarly source and provide statistical data that you found surprising on the topic.
In the scholarly source, Krauss (2019) states, "Chevron and Occidental, which have each taken seats on Carbon Engineering's board, refused to disclose their investments. The company says it raised a total of $68 million in its most recent funding round to expand the pilot and develop its first commercial plant" (pg. 1). That is a lot of money, but to those companies, it is just a drop in the bucket, but that isn't what is most surprising. Most surprising is that there is no product, machine, or process outside of testing mode that works. What is Chevron (who is one of the leading oil companies) doing with the money invested since it has not found a way to remove carbon from the climate? There were no numbers to put with the dollar amount of what they were going to do by a certain time. I find that very surprising and a bit intriguing. It has nothing to do with availability or how possible it is to reduce emissions but a matter of who will do it. According to Krauss (2019), "A few companies, including Royal Dutch Shell and BP, are linking compensation to emissions reductions" (pg. 1). Even countries that are not as big of producers as chevron and other companies are doing what they can to increase spending to have clean energy. Krauss (2019) states, “Equinor, the Norwegian oil company, plans to increase spending on clean energy to 15 to 20 percent of it ...

The popular vote
Status quo:
The United States elects an American president every four years using the electoral college, a tradition that has been repeated since the beginning of the nation. The system of electoral college gives each state a “proportionate” amount of votes based on their population. Since the electoral college is not equivalent to the popular vote, certain state’s votes do not matter as much compared to others. Causing a minority of people to make wide sweeping decisions for the nation.
Plan:
A social movement pushed strongly by politicians and political organizations to support the process of changing the electoral process to result in the popular vote electing the nation’s president. The process of amending the constitution is very unlikely, thus the National Popular Vote (NPV) plan is the most probable of succeeding. Informing society of the importance of fair elections and how all other social movements rely on good representatives, can potentially create a social movement to pressure representatives to pass the compact.
Plan in action/ Benefits:
Overall using the popular vote, everyone’s vote will be worth the same amount, the process of election will be simpler and cheaper, and create the most satisfied results for the majority of voters.
part 1: If people want government support with social issues that the majority of people agree with it is important to support a presidential election that is based on popular vote. There is already a NPV compact that is close to reaching its majority votes to past and change the national election. Not all the votes needed are reached and that is what I believe is still inadequate.
Im struggling with understanding if what I am proposing a good enough plan.

I am writing my essay on the need for stricter gun control laws in the United States. The amount of shootings that have happened in the year of 2022 is unacceptable, and with the Uvalde mass shooting killing innocent children and teachers, there needs to be change. This topic matters to anyone who lives in America because without a change in gun laws there will just be more terrible shootings and more lives lost.
In current breaking news, the House passed the gun control legislation that was brought forth after the Buffalo and Uvalde shootings. This package includes raising the gun purchasing age from 18 to 21, as well as banning the purchasing of high capacity magazines. Along with that, they want to tighten laws of the storage of firearms for residents and create more criminal penalties for those who break gun laws. In order for these to pass as laws, Senate needs to pass them which will be difficult due to members believing this to be unnecessary and unconstitutional. What is being done is a start, but it does not fix the gun problem in the U.S. No matter the law, there will still be illegal trafficking of guns, minors purchasing, and shootings. Analysis on Food Security
The members of the United Nations found great value in the analysis you provided on the effects of global warming that result from population growth. They are now asking you write an additional analysis to include further issues related to population growth. Here is the issue they have asked you to consider:
The member states of the United Nations seek to build food systems that can provide global food security which will feed everyone, everywhere, every day by improving food quality though the promotion of effective and nutritional agricultural practices. The crucial issue is not the lack of food in the world but the access to that food. In many developing countries, food shortages are due to governmental control over food distribution. These governments maintain control of the population and their power by limiting access to nutritious food to certain groups. In this practice, they thereby "weaponize" food.

Here are a few general pieces of advice for writing a successful literature review:
• Show the connections between your sources. Remember that your review should be more than merely a list of sources with brief descriptions under each one. You are constructing a narrative. Show clearly how each text has contributed to the current state of the literature, drawing connections between them.
• Engage critically with your sources. This means not simply describing what they say. You should be evaluating their content: do they make sound arguments? Are there any flaws in the methodology? Are there any relevant themes or issues they have failed to address? You can also compare their relative strengths and weaknesses.
• Signpost throughout to ensure your reader can follow your narrative. Each time you bring up a new source it should be made obvious to your reader why you are doing this and where the discussion is headed. Keep relating the discussion back to your specific research topic.
• Make a clear argument. Keep in mind that this is a chance to present your take on a topic. Your literature review showcases your own informed interpretation of a specific area of research. If you have followed the advice given in this guide you will have been careful and selective in choosing your sources. You are in control of how you present them to your reader.
· To show that you have a good understanding of your area of research.
· To show you have considered your research within the context of previous and ongoingresearch.
· To inform the reader of the current state of knowledge and questions in your research area.
· Remember that you can also challenge or comment on earlier research findings.
· You should usually attempt to refer to as wide a range of research as possible, and not rely on one or two examples.

In this paper you systematically summarize the material you have been reading in the newspapers and online about the US economy. You will have read different authors, banks and blogs all of which present a particular view of the near-term prospects (or outlook) for the US economy. Which factors and policies seem like they will be the most important determinants of the future course of the economy?
You should note carefully the two quarter period that will be your “forecast period”. It will be posted on D2L.
This is a generic outline. It is typical for the economic outlook papers written by banks and other institutions year in and year out. You should deviate from it in order to emphasize issues that are especially important right now or to accommodate one or two issues that caught your interest and you want to emphasize. You could reorder the material and insert a section or two. You obviously can’t write about everything that I mention in the generic outline, but you should say something that speaks to the major headings: Labor, Demand, Financial Markets, Supply and International.
I) Introduction: Where is the US economy in the cycle? (Starting an expansion? Ending an expansion? When was the last “turning point” of the US economy?) Are the forecasts for the US economy split between optimists and pessimists, or do they all seem to say pretty much the same thing? Assess the Constituent Data. What is included? Omitted? What are the data based on?
What assumptions are being made? Different retirement calculators give widely different
estimates of how much savings is needed for retirement because of factors they include or omit
(such as entertainment) and assumptions they make (such as inflation rate or healthiness of
annuities and mutual funds) in the calculations.
Two reputable sources can give different figures because they take their data from different
places. Suppose you wanted to know employment figures. The Labor Department’s monthly
estimate of nonfarm payroll jobs is the most popular, but some economists like Automatic Data
Processing’s monthly estimate, which is based on the roughly 20 million paychecks it processes
for clients. Both survey approximately 400,000 workplaces, but the Labor Department selects
employers to mirror the U.S. economy, while ADP’s sample is skewed, with too many
construction firms and too few of the largest employers. On the other hand, the government has
trouble counting jobs at businesses that are opening and closing, and some employers do not
return the survey. (Both organizations do attempt to adjust their numbers to compensate
accurately.)7
Check the Currency of the Data. Population figures should be from the 2010 census, not
the 2000 one. Technology figures in particular need to be current. Do remember, however, that
some large data sets are one to two years behind in being analyzed. Such is the case for some
government figures, also. If you are doing a report in 2014 that requires national education data
from the Department of Education, for instance, 2013 data may not even be fully collected. And
even the 2012 data may not be fully analyzed, so indeed the 2011 data may be the most current
available.
Hard to Quantify Sports Participation
How many people participate In sports, and which sports do they choose?
Governments and equipment makers want to know, but the data are fuzzy. Multiple
questions contribute to the lack of clarity.
What is a sport? One survey includes bird-watching.
Who should be counted? Do young children count?
How often do you have to participate in a sport to be counted? Is once a year enough?
How was the count made? Because younger and more active people tend to have only cell phones, a survey
made through landlines probably won’t be accurate.
In case you are curious, the National Sporting Goods Association survey says hiking is the most popular
participation sport in the United States, with over 40 million people.

Paragraph Proposal
11/15/15
This project aims to address the challenges facing American Indians or Native Americans especially the reasons for low higher education intake, retention and graduation of the Native Americans. Research has shown that many American Indians graduate from high school but few enroll to post-secondary education and retention until graduation is also affected. According to the National Education Association in 2000, 71% of American Indians Alaska Natives had a high school diploma but only 11% had bachelor’s degree compared to 27% of Whites (nea.org).
The number one goal of the project is to find out the barriers that contribute to the lower higher education intake, retention and graduation. Secondly to find out solutions to the barriers or problems. This will also sensitize education policy makers and the federal and state governments to initiate appropriate programs that would effectively address the higher education challenges faced by American Indians. And in turn the number of Native Americans graduating from college would increase and the living standards of the general population of Native Americans would be upgraded.
The information in the project report was research from internet sources that focused on looking for literature and findings from various articles. The research was based on the main challenges that affect American Indians’ chances of getting into college and completion of bachelor’s degree. One such article was by Harrington, C. and Harrington, B. (2012) titled “Fighting a Difference Battle: Challenges Facing American Indians in Higher Education. In the article they have given various recommendations to education advocates and the government. The second article was by Hunt and Harrington (2010) titled “The Impending Educational Crisis for American Indians: Higher Education at the Crossroads.” They focused on the various barriers that affect the America Indians higher education enrollment and graduation including lack of administrative support from college institutions and stereotyping of the minority group.

QUESTION:
The COVID-19 outbreak has struck Canada as well as every other part of the world since it was first
reported in December 2019 and the disease continues to cause so much havoc. Although this is a
public health issue, it has managed to hit the global economy negatively in different ways. The stock
market continues to plummet everyday, with people losing billions of their wealth; most businesses
have come to a halt and workers have been asked to stay home in order to reduce the spread of the
deadly virus; the virus is also causing people to fall sick and not being able to work. This pandemic
has also caused some small-scale businesses to lay-off workers partly because they are not able to pay
them wages and salaries. The airline industry has come to a standstill because various countries have
closed their borders and are limiting traveling. Due to this, airline companies like WestJet are expecting
to lay-off between 20%-50% of their workers if the situation persists in the coming days. Most
sporting events and leagues around the world have been suspended. Companies like Nike and Apple
have closed all stores due to this pandemic. Also, Crude oil prices keep plunging over these few
months.
Throughout the semester, we have discussed various economic variables and how they are related. We
have also discussed the difference between the Classical and the Keynesian Economists’ view about
how the economy reacts to shocks in the market. We have also discussed how the government and
the central bank can use Fiscal Policies and Monetary Policies respectively to help solve a recession in
an economy.
With reference to everything we discussed in class throughout the semester, discuss how the COVID-
19 pandemic has affected or is affecting the Canadian economy and how the government of Canada
together with the Bank of Canada are trying to mitigate the problem.
Guideline: Your essay should include, but not limited to the information in this guideline
1. Make sure to discuss how this pandemic will affect Canada’s GDP and growth rate (makes will

Describe the source of the dispute and the results of the case in WTO (40 points)—U.S.-E.U Beef Hormone case study.
Note: 250 words each for the source of dispute and the results rendered by WTO—500 words total.
This week's case study is about U.S.-EU Beef hormone. The dispute was argued in the WTO.
The question is: Describe the source of the dispute and the results of the case in WTO—U.S.-E.U Beef Hormone case study.
Note 250 words each for the source of dispute and the results rendered by WTO. That will be 500 words in total.
This is a very easy case study. Here I'm asking you to describe the source of the dispute and the results rendered by the WTO in this case.
The content component will be writing what was the source and the decision rendered by the WTO.
The application component is expanding on the case--like putting meat on the bones. The source of the dispute (250 words)--talk about the issue, countries involved, background why this case came to WTO, what is WTO, why it was created, who were the parties to the dispute, why hormone-fed beef is good in the US and bad in the EU. What is EU (the composition of EU countries) their trade policy in beef?
Next part is that the WTO gave the decision, what was the decision and how it affects beef trade. Has the EU allowed the US to export hormone-fed beef? Include all these points in your application (200 words).

How America’s talent wars are reshaping business - the labour
shortages are forcing firms to get creative
The Economist | Feb 5, 2022, edition
Summary: Dcl logistics, like so many American firms, had a problem last year. Its
business, fulfilling orders of goods sold online, faced surging demand. But competition
for warehouse workers was fierce, wages were rising and staff turnover was high. So Dcl
made two changes. It bought robots to pick items off shelves and place them in boxes.
And it reduced its reliance on part-time workers by hiring more full-time staff. “What we
save in having temp employees, we lose in productivity,” explains Dave Tu, Dcl’s
president. Full-time payroll has doubled in the past year, to 280. Paycheques of
everyone from McDonald’s burger-flippers to Citi group bankers are growing fatter. This

goes some way to explaining why profit margins in the S & P 500 index of large
companies, which have defied gravity in the pandemic, are starting to decline.
Explain how this tug-of-war between the employers and employees is affecting the US
labor market in terms of elasticity of supply and demand of skilled labors and their
wages and changing the way of doing business in this country. Are we seeing similar
trends in the European, Asian or South American labor markets?

Part 1: Interest Rates
Macroeconomic factors that influence interest rates in general
The variables influencing microfinance interest rates for MFIs can be characterized into two general gatherings: 1) interior – the components MFIs can impact: for example work costs, specialized help, creations; or 2) outer – political risks, full scale factors, authoritative risk, and four fundamental parts reflected in the microfinance interest rates: working costs, cost of assets, advance misfortune costs, and benefit. Working expenses speak to around 60 % of the all out MFI costs and generally rely upon the credit size, age, area and customer's appraising, and so on.
Macroeconomic factors is your industry most sensitive
Like most businesses, the carrier business is affected by the monetary cycle's pinnacles and troughs. The present development in created economies—like the U.S. that is driven by the extricating money related strategy—has brought about an ascent in business certainty, mechanical creation, and universal exchange.
Impacts on the interest rates experienced within your chosen industry
In any industry, the economy assumes a urgent job that incorporates the general development of the division, and common flight, with the ever-developing interest, is no special case. To give a major picture, Airbus GMF 2016 evaluations the 20-year interest for new traveler and cargo airplane to be a little more than 33,000 airplane comprising a market estimation of over USD $5.2 trillion underlining and setting up the effect of market development.
Part 2: Stock Valuation, Risk and Returns
Stock Valuation. As indicated by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (or BEA), the genuine total national output (or GDP) expanded 4% every year in 2Q14 in the wake of diminishing 2.1% in 1Q14. With financial and modern development, work rates have expanded. This has prompted higher genuine extra cash.

My company doesn't have stocks right now, so I'll use Costco Wholesale as an example to explain the stock valuation. Future Costco Wholesale Corp stock predictions formula:
P0 = Div1 / (r – g)
P0 = Stock Price;
Div1= Estimated dividends for the next period;
r = Required Rate of Return;
g = Growth Rate
In this formula, we need to know the value of estimated dividends for the next period; required rate and return as well as growth rate. Let’s get each number individually.
g: Growth Rate = Retention Ratio x ROE
0.52 x 0.24 = 0.1248
r: Required Rate of Return.
R = D / P0 + g
0.65 / 296.09 + 0.1248 = 0.1269
Div1: Estimated dividends for the next period is 65c. Therefore, the future Costco Wholesale Corp stock predictions are:
P0 = Div1 / (r – g)
0.65 / 0.0021 = $309.52
The present stock worth and the assessed stock worth utilizing the Dividend Discount Model is higher on account of the contenders are attempting to get into the membership segment showcase. Likewise, Amazon and Sam's club have improved their online store distribution centers. So all in all, financing an organi.

P0 = Div1 / (r – g)
P0 = Stock Price;
Div1= Estimated dividends for the next period;
r = Required Rate of Return;
g = Growth Rate
In this formula, we need to know the value of estimated dividends for the next period; required rate and return as well as growth rate. Let’s get each number individually.
g: Growth Rate = Retention Ratio x ROE
0.52 x 0.24 = 0.1248
r: Required Rate of Return.
R = D / P0 + g
0.65 / 296.09 + 0.1248 = 0.1269
Div1: Estimated dividends for the next period is 65c. Therefore, the future Costco Wholesale Corp stock predictions are:
P0 = Div1 / (r – g)
0.65 / 0.0021 = $309.52
The present stock worth and the assessed stock worth utilizing the Dividend Discount Model is higher on account of the contenders are attempting to get into the membership segment showcase. In order to achieve this objective, the following supporting topics will be covered:
Strategic alliances;
Cooperative strategies; and
Competitive risks.
Please go to the next slide.
Strategic AlliancesCooperative strategyStrategic allianceCombination of resources and capabilitiesExchange and sharing of resourcesFirms leverage existing resourcesCornerstone of many firms’ competitive strategy
Recognized as a viable engine of firm growth, cooperative strategy is a strategy in which firms work together to achieve a shared objective. Thus, cooperating with other firms is another strategy firms use to create value for a customer that exceeds the cost of providing that value and to establish a favorable position relative to competition.
A strategic alliance is a cooperative strategy in which firms combine some of their resources and capabilities to create a competitive advantage. Thus, strategic alliances involve firms with some degree of exchange and sharing of resources and capabilities to co-develop, sell, and service goods or services. Strategic alliances allow firms to leverage their existing resources and capabilities while working with partners to develop additional resources and capabilities as the foundation for new competitive advantages. To be certain, the reality today is that strategic alliances have become a cornerstone of many firms’ competitive strategy.
Please go to the next slide.
Strategic Alliances, continuedJoint ventureEquity strategic allianceNonequity strategic alliance
The three major types of strategic alliances include joint venture, equity strategic alliance, and nonequity strategic alliance.
A joint venture is a strategic alliance in which two or more firms create a legally independent company to share some of their resources and capabilities to develop a competitive advantage. Joint ventures, which are often formed to improve firms’ abilities to compete in uncertain competitive environments, are effective in establishing long-term relationships and in transferring tacit knowledge. Because it can’t be codified, tacit, or implied, knowledge is learned through experiences such as those taking place when people from partner firms work together in a join.

P0 = Div1 / (r – g)
P0 = Stock Price;
Div1= Estimated dividends for the next period;
r = Required Rate of Return;
g = Growth Rate
In this formula, we need to know the value of estimated dividends for the next period; required rate and return as well as growth rate. Let’s get each number individually.
g: Growth Rate = Retention Ratio x ROE
0.52 x 0.24 = 0.1248
r: Required Rate of Return.
R = D / P0 + g
0.65 / 296.09 + 0.1248 = 0.1269
Div1: Estimated dividends for the next period is 65c. Therefore, the future Costco Wholesale Corp stock predictions are:
P0 = Div1 / (r – g)
0.65 / 0.0021 = $309.52
The present stock worth and the assessed stock worth utilizing the Dividend Discount Model is higher on account of the contenders are attempting to get into the membership segment showcase. Supporting TopicsStrategic alliancesCooperative strategiesCompetitive risks
In order to achieve this objective, the following supporting topics will be covered:
Strategic alliances;

Serial KillersFor this assignment you will review a serial kille.docxWilheminaRossi174
Serial Killers
For this assignment you will review a serial killer's case in depth. The killer you choose to review will also be the subject of your Week 5 final assignment, so keep your research material handy.
First, choose
one
of the following serial killers:
David Berkowitz ("Son of Sam") taunted police over a year and shot 15 people (6 died) in New York City. The movie "Summer of Sam" was about this time.
Gary Ridgway (the "Green River Killer") holds the American record for most victims. He confessed to killing 48 over a 16-year period but is suspected of having killed many more!
Wayne B. Williams is believed to be the killer of 24 children and young men in Atlanta, though there is still some doubt.
John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were the "DC snipers" who shot 13 people (ten died) over three weeks in the Washington DC area in 2002.
Ted Bundy: Confessed to almost 30 murders (there may have been more). He was known for being smart and good-looking, and acted as his own lawyer.
Jeffrey Dahmer: His case captured worldwide attention after his capture, mostly due to his habit of keeping parts of his victims long after their deaths, as well as cannibalism and necrophilia.
Kristen Gilbert: An example of a female serial killer, she was a nurse who killed hospital patients in her care.
For this assignment, create a report in Microsoft Word that covers the following points:
Summarize the case: time period, location, number of victims, etc.
Describe the killer's background, methods, and area of operation.
How did the killer select his or her victims? Was there anything that the victims did to provoke the killer?
By analyzing all of the above information, you should now be able to propose a
three-part typology
and explain your analysis. Your typology should describe the killer's
motivation, location, and organized or disorganized factors. For instance, John Wayne Gacy might be described as a
Power/Control, local, organized killer.

SESSION 1
Michael Delarosa, Department Manager
What suggestions do you have for improvement in regards to training new supervisors?
Make sure there are opportunities for hands on problem solving. Too much of our training is theory
and supervisors need to be focused on the real-world problems that come up.
What challenges do supervisors in our plants encounter that training would help them resolve?
I'd say that a lot of the challenges we see relate to the diversity on the line. There are a lot of different
types of people working at CapraTek and they don't always play well together.
What are the most important abilities for supervisors in our plants?
Well… the first thing that comes to mind is the ability to find information. Whether it's technical
information or answers for the people who report to you. Another key ability though is the ability to
acquire technical expertise. No one comes in knowing it all, but the ability to gain necessary
knowledge is very important.
What knowledge does a new supervisor need?
A solid understanding of the job itself. Supervisors provide a lot of training to new employees, so they
need to know our systems and processes inside and out.
Should training be conducted face to face, online, or a combination of both?
I'd say a combination. There are some topics that don't really need a classroom experience, but
others where the face-to-face interaction provides as much as the actual training materials. If it had to
be one or the other, I'd definitely say face to face.
Leland Butler, Shift Supervisor
What suggestions do you have for improvement in regards to training new supervisors?
Don't think you can cover this stuff once and be done with it. I went through supervisor training when I
was promoted, but I've gotta admit, I don't remember much of it. That kind of stuff doesn't always
stick unless you're doing it. Having an opportunity to be in the job and then get training on what you're
actually dealing with is better than sitting in a training room listening to someone talk about theories
and policies.
What challenges do supervisors in our plants encounter that training would help them resolve?
Well… like I said, being able to apply the leadership and supervisory ideas in realistic situations. I'm a
hands-on kind of person and it's always better if I can do something, so maybe like getting training on
performance reviews or some of the paperwork we're all dealing with. That would be helpful.
What are the most important abilities for supervisors in our plants?
Communication and flexibility. Hands down. You need to be able to shift gears decisively and
communicate with your team.
What knowledge does a new supervisor need?
He or she needs to know what the role of their team is to the division. How it all fits together. A good
supervisor needs to be able to communicate to the people who report to him what's going on and why
things are the way they are. So, he's got to be in .

SETTINGS: A SELECTIVE REVIEW
Janet Ellis* and Sandy Magee
University of North Texas, Denton, TX, USA
This review describes applied behavioral research involving functional analyses conducted in public
school settings. Functional analyses in public school settings often require added conditions. The
modified conditions described herein include changes to experimental designs, antecedent changes that
include task variation, tasks included, idiosyncratic variables, physiological conditions, and modified
escape conditions. Finally, consequent modifications cover peer attention, tangibles, varied attention,
and altered escape. Copyright # 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
INTRODUCTION
The primary body of functional analysis (FA) literature has historically focused on
persons with developmental disabilities in institutional/residential settings who
engaged in severe self-injurious behavior (SIB). Mace and Lalli (1991) noted that
interventions based on FAs conducted in experimental settings under highly
controlled analog conditions may be effective only to the extent that those analog
conditions match the subject’s natural environment. Johnston (1993) recommended
that, once a procedure has been experimentally developed, its value and applicability
should be assessed under practical/natural conditions. Further, passage of Public Law
105-17, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), in 1997 mandated that a
‘functional behavioral assessment’ be conducted on students who exhibit significant
behavior and adjustment problems. For at least these reasons, FA research has moved
beyond the tightly controlled laboratory setting and into more natural environments
involving more diverse populations. Development of behavioral assessments of
problem behavior in school settings had empirical roots—for example, 36 years ago
Thomas, Becker, and Armstrong (1968) noted that classroom teacher’s disapproval
increased rates of student’s disruptive behavior. These assessments allowed effective

Shared Reading Framework
Follow this framework when viewing the video lessons for Days 1,2, & 3 from Ms. Chan’s class. Compare and contrast Ms. Chan’s teaching to what is listed on this page.
(Whole)
Read aloud a shared or big book to the students. Label each step and clearly state how you will accomplish this.
·
Introduce the book: Explain what you will say to the students to introduce the book to them, if you choose to point out concepts of book, concepts of print, predicting, etc.
·
Picture Walk: Explain what you will do to provide a Picture Walk for the students, telling all that you will say to the students.
·
Read the book aloud: Explain how you will read the book aloud to the students, will you stop, on what pages, what will you say.
·
Students’ Responses: Develop a set of both literal and higher-order thinking questions to elicit student responses, use Bloom’s or Webb’s as a guide to questions.
(PART)
Direct Instruction (Name the reading skill and explain what it means)
· Explain:
(I do) Explain to the students what they will be learning and why they should learn it. Explain the skill they will be learning and explain “how it works” Summarize the skill in your own words. Teacher tells students everything you want them to learn
(objectives).
· Demonstrate
: (I do) Show the students what you would like them to do. Demonstrate to them what they will be doing to help them learn the skill. You must explain what you will do to demonstrate the skill you will be teaching. PROVIDE EXAMPLES and link to your explain step.
· Guide:
(We do, more teacher responsibility, some student responsibility) Guide the students to discuss and/or attempt the skill you just demonstrated. Explain how you will guide the students to allow them opportunities to try to apply the skill. Give support and feedback. Teacher brings students into discussion about objective and gives guidance and feedback
. (Feedback must be accurate, positive and encouraging, but also firm.)
· Practice:
(We do, more student responsibility) Explain specifically how you will guide the students to practice applying the skill by allowing them to work together with less teacher support but still feedback.
(WHOLE)
· Application:
(You do) (Read the book again and this time ask the students to apply what they learned about the reading skill to the book you are rereading.) Explain what you will have the students do to apply the skill to the text. The students should demonstrate that they can meet objective in this step.
· Students Reflect:
(You do) Develop a set of 6 – 8 questions you would ask the students to reflect on what they learned about the reading skill and what they learned from the book you read to them. This is a good time to ask questions that would meet.

Seemingly riding on the coattails of SARS-CoV-2, the alarming sp.docxWilheminaRossi174
Seemingly riding on the coattails of SARS-CoV-2, the alarming spread of monkeypox across western Europe and the United States has filled the news cycle through the summer of 2022. Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus, similar in presentation to smallpox and chickenpox (Varicella zoster). In contrast to the related poxviruses, monkeypox has been reported to spread by sexual contact and direct skin-to-skin contact, as well as through the traditional respiratory droplet route. While there is currently no effective treatment for infected individuals, two vaccines with good efficacy are available to help stem the spread of the disease. Likewise, individuals that have been vaccinated against smallpox with vaccinia virus have some protection against contracting monkeypox. While changes in sexual behavior among vulnerable populations has so far limited the outbreak, the disease is still spreading throughout the country and has caused a handful of deaths.
What is the life cycle of monkeypox, and how exactly is it spread? What does the fact that vaccination against smallpox provides some protection against monkeypox indicate about this virus? Also, what does the spread of monkeypox reveal about the susceptibility of the population to smallpox, a disease that has been considered eradicated worldwide since the late 1980s?
In addition to your original response, you will need to respond to at least two other students’ original posts. Responses should be substantive in nature instead of just reiterating what the original poster stated, or a “good job explaining” or “me too” type of post.

Strategies that embed the mission and vision
It is possible for a school to convey its ethos, mission, goals, and values to its students, staff, and parents in a variety of different methods. A school's prospectus or handbook should present information in a way that is clear and easy to comprehend, taking into account the diverse ethnic group in the area and maybe translating the text into many languages. The website of the school is the spot that makes the most sense to transmit any sort of information regarding the institution as a whole, including its ethos and so on. The internet is the first place that people search for information in this day and age since it can be accessed from anywhere in the world and every school now has its own personal website. Again, in order to experience the true environment of the school, it is necessary to combine this mode of communication with a trip to the location itself.

A well-defined statement that provides an explanation of the line of work that an individual plans to pursue over the entirety of his career is an example of a career objective. It is essential for each and every student to articulate their aspirations for their future careers. They are able to devise more efficient action plans as a result of this.

Finding and employing the appropriate faculty members is possibly the single most significant factor that will determine the institution's long-term success. Even though conducting interviews and making hires is seen by many as an art form, there are tried-and-true strategies that the school may employ to boost its chances of finding the proper people to work there. These approaches are suppo.

Segmented Assimilation Theory and theLife Model An Integrat.docxWilheminaRossi174
Segmented Assimilation Theory and the
Life Model: An Integrated Approach to
Understanding Immigrants and Their Children
Lissette M. Piedra and David W Engstrom
The life model offers social workers a promising framework to use in assisting immigrant
families. However, the complexities of adaptation to a new country may make it difficult
for social workers to operate from a purely ecological approach. The authors use segmented
assimilation theory to better account for the specificities of the immigrant experience. They
argue that by adding concepts from segmented assimilation theory to the life model, social
workers can better understand the environmental Stressors that increase the vulnerabilities
of immigrants to the potentially harsh experience of adapting to a new country. With these
concepts, social workers who work with immigrant families will be better positioned to
achieve their central goal: enhancing person and environment fit.
KEY WORDS: acculturation; assimilation; immigrants; life model; second generation
Nearly a century ago,Jane Addams (1910)
observed that immigrants needed help
integrating their European and American
experiences to give them meaning and a sense of
relation:
Power to see life as a whole is more needed in
the immigrant quarter of the city than anywhere
else Why should the chasm between fathers
and sons, yawning at the feet of each generation,
be made so unnecessarily cruel and impassable
to these bewildered immigrants? (p. 172)
The inability of some immigrant families to
integrate the cultural capital from the world left
behind with the demands of the new society creates
a gulf of experience between immigrants and their
children that can undermine the parental relation-
ship. Today, the issue of family cohesion in the face
of acculturative Stressors remains central to the im-
migrant experience and creates a sense of urgency
because it is so linked with the success of the second
generation. The size of the immigrant population
and the role their children \vill play in future labor
markets (Morales & Bonilla, 1993; Sullivan, 2006)
moves the problem from the realm of the person
to the status of a larger public concern.
Immigrant families are rapidly becoming the
"typical" American family. More than one in seven
families in the United States is headed by a foreign-
born adult. Children of immigrant parents are the
fastest growing segment of the nation's child popula-
tion (Capps, Fix, Ost, Reardon-Anderson, & Passel,
2004).The U.S. Census Bureau (2003) reported that
slightly more than 14 million children (approxi-
mately one in five) live in immigrant families; the
percentage is even higher (22 percent) for children
under the age of six (U.S. Census Bureau, 2001).
At a structural level, these changing demographics
create large-scale and long-range effects that bear
on many social services and many issues of social
pohcy (Sullivan, 2006). Specifically, the population
growth of native-born children in nonwhite.
Select a local, state, or national public policy that is relev.docxWilheminaRossi174
Select a local, state, or national public policy that is relevant today in the local, regional, or national news
Examples:
Local: community or urban growth (examples: results of rezoning, reuse of public structures, closed down school/public buildings that will convert to private business enterprise).
State: Private land converted to public spaces (examples: airports, road, or highway usage).
Federal: Gun policy, drug policy, immigration (examples: effects on jobs, background checks, cultural changes in communities).
Identify how the policy was formulated from a historical standpoint and identify which stakeholders were involved in the process.
Appraise the position whether the policy creates a benefit for one group (or stakeholder) while other groups experience disadvantages or negative challenges because of public policy implementation.

School Effects on Psychological Outcomes During Adolescence.docxWilheminaRossi174
School Effects on Psychological Outcomes During Adolescence
Eric M. Anderman
University of Kentucky
Data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health were used to examine school-level
differences in the relations between school belonging and various outcomes. In Study 1, predictors of
belonging were examined. Results indicated that belonging was lower in urban schools than in suburban
schools, and lower in schools that used busing practices than those that did not. In Study 2, the relations
between belonging and psychological outcomes were examined. The relations varied depending on the
unit of analysis (individual vs. aggregated measures of belonging). Whereas individual students’
perceptions of belonging were inversely related to depression, social rejection, and school problems,
aggregated belonging was related to greater reports of social rejection and school problems and to higher
grade point average.
Research on school-level differences during adolescence often
has focused on nonpsychological outcomes, such as academic
achievement and behavioral issues, instead of on psychological
outcomes (Roeser, 1998). Indeed, research on school-level differ-
ences in nonacademic variables is quite rare. The purpose of the
present research was to examine school-level differences in a
variety of psychological outcomes, using a large nationally repre-
sentative sample of adolescents.
School Effects on Student Outcomes
Although there is an abundant literature on effective schools,
most of the research in this literature has focused on academic
variables, such as achievement, dropping out, and grade point
average (GPA; e.g., Edmonds, 1979; Miller, 1985; Murphy, Weil,
Hallinger, & Mitman, 1985). This literature generally indicates
that schools that are academically effective have certain recogniz-
able characteristics.
Some of these studies have examined differences between pub-
lic schools and other types of schools. For example, some research
indicates that students who attend public schools achieve more
academically than do students who attend other types of schools
(e.g., Coleman & Hoffer, 1987). Other research suggests that there
may be a benefit in terms of academic achievement for students
who attend Catholic schools compared with non-Catholic schools
(Bryk, Lee, & Holland, 1993). Lee and her colleagues (Lee,
Chow-Hoy, Burkam, Geverdt, & Smerdon, 1998) found that stu-
dents who attended private schools took more advanced math
courses than did students who attended public schools. However,
they also found specific benefits for Catholic schools: Specifically,
in Catholic schools, there was greater school influence on the
courses that students took, and the social distribution of course
enrollment was found to be particularly equitable.
In recent years, psychologists have started to become interested
in the effects of schooling on mental health outcomes (e.g., Boe-
kaerts, 1993; Cowen, 1991; Roeser, Eccles, & Strobel, 1998;
Rutter,.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

It is no secret that the United States shares a long and complex
history with Mexico, particularly regarding immigration. In
recent years, the issue of illegal immigration has again come to
the forefront of public debates. Many people argue that the
country's borders should be closed to prevent drug trafficking
and other criminal activity ( Slack, 2019). However, others
argue that an open border is necessary to allow people to seek a
better life for themselves and their families. However, open
borders provide drug traffickers with easy access to bring
illegal drugs into the country. Therefore, it is necessary to
research if there is a relationship between illegal immigration,
drug trafficking, and an open border (Inés, 2019). According to
Finley & Esposito (2020), there is no one answer to the question
of whether the United States should have an open border. The
issue is complex, and the researcher must consider various
factors to allow future debates and discussions on the topic
(Inés, 2019). Comment by Augusto, Daniel: Your last two
statements summarized other people's arguments and then this
seems to be your own argument. I would also present this an the
argument of another (with a reference). That way you are
keeping the same format.
A strong connection between illegal immigration, drug
smuggling, and an open border would only exacerbate this
problem (Finley & Esposito, 2020). Comment by Augusto,
Daniel: This sentence is sitting by itself. I also don't understand
what you are saying. What problem, specifically?
The current debate surrounding illegal immigration in the
United States is highly polarizing and contentious (Inés, 2019).
There is a wide range of opinions and perspectives on the
9. matter, and the issue is of great importance to the country (Inés,
2019). According to Finley & Esposito (2020), tThere is often
reference to illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and an open
border in the same breath. (Finley & Esposito (2020).
According to Finley & Esposito (2020), and there is a verysome
researchers have found a close relationship between the three. A
study by the University of Arizona found that "a 10 percent
increase in border enforcement is associated with a 9 percent
decrease in the probability of drug trafficking." (Davies, 2011,
p. 12). A study by the RAND Corporation found that "the
relationship between border enforcement and drug trafficking is
small and not statistically significant"( pp. 340–345). In other
words, the study found that drug trafficking is not significantly
impacted by border enforcement. According to the Fiscal Year
by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the data haves
changed since 2018. There areis more illegal border crossing
and drug trafficking than ever before(reference). In the Fiscal
Year 2018, CBP booked 4,657 pounds of narcotics, while in the
Fiscal year 2021, 4,732 pounds of drugs were booked by CBP.
Also, 11,623 non-documented immigrants entered the borders in
2018, while the number increased in 2021 to 13,883. However,
the available research suggests a strong relationship between
the three (Eshkobilov, 2022). Comment by Augusto, Daniel:
This citation is not needed because of the one above.
According to Bauder (2017), illegal immigration, drug
trafficking, and an open border are all interconnected issues.
Research has shown that illegal immigration and drug
trafficking are strongly linked, with drug trafficking being a
significant reason why people choose to migrate illegally
(multiple refs needed here). Illegal immigration is a significant
and empirical issue since it affects health care, education, and
food needs (Davis, 2011). The issue of drug trafficking is
important since the open border in 2021 increased drug
overdoses, public health, and safety. According to Eshkobilov
(2022), the issue of illegal immigration is important because it
challenges traditional ideas about borders and sovereignty.
10. Every day, 300 people die from drug overdoses, especially
fentanyl illegally smuggled into the U.S. through the open
border. According to Cha (2020), the issue of an open border is
important because it challenges the idea of the nation-state as a
closed system. Comment by Augusto, Daniel: Not sure if you
are stating this or one of your sources. Either way, this is a
mighty strong statement. I would back off from saying the open
border 'caused' these things. Your wording is also not saying
what I think you intend.
During the Trump administration, illegal immigration and drug
trafficking were critical priorities (ref to Trump’s
priorities/agenda), and the border wall was starting to be built.
Since 2021, the border has been open, and drugs and illegal
immigrants are flowing into the country (ref to a source that
shows an irrefutable increase in these). An estimated 11 million
undocumented immigrants live in the United States (Meade &
Nancy, 2018). Drug trafficking is at its height, resulting in the
highest number of overdoses while the cartels make enormous
profits. An estimated $100 billion of drugs are trafficked
annually through the southern border (Meade & Nancy, 2018).
Comment by Augusto, Daniel: You need sources that back
up your arguments that these things are at their height. Not just
high. You see the difference between those two arguments? You
need a source to back up the specific argument you are
makingStatement of the Problem Comment by Northcentral
University: Tip: Applied dissertations should be practice-based.
The documented problem might be a practical problem or issue
in the profession or study context for which there is not already
an acceptable solution. When defining the problem, a clear
distinction must be drawn between what exists currently and
what is desired. An applied study does not necessarily require
generalizable results beyond the study site; however, it must
address a problem relevant and exists outside of the study site.
Similarly, a PhD dissertation must focus on a problem relevant
and exists outside of the study site. Additionally, the study must
11. make a substantive, scholarly contribution to both the research
and theory.

The problem to be addressed in this study is to research if there
is a relationship between illegal immigration, open border, and
drug trafficking. Illegal activities such as drug trafficking and
illegal immigration occur when there is a lack of border control
(Cha, 2020). Open borders affect society, law enforcement,
public safety, and the government. It also allows people from
any country to enter the United States without background
checks and provides the perfect environment for terrorism
(Choi, 2018). Having an open border will make it easy for
criminals from other nations to enter the United States
(Hikmatullo Ogli, 2020). There is a challenge in controlling
movements on an open border when immigration agencies fail
to regulate people entering the country. According to Molobe &
Odukoya (2021), increased cases of drug trafficking occur when
people smuggle drugs across an open border, like the southern
border between Mexico and the United States. In FY2021, CBP
seized 624,500 pounds of drugs compared to the fiscal year
2020, the cocaine seizures increased by 68%; Methamphetamine
seizures increased by 7%; Heroin seizures decreased by 6%;
Fentanyl seizures increased by 134% (Seagren, 2020).
Comment by Augusto, Daniel: This is not really a problem.
This is more of a purpose or goal. The problem seems to be
either drug trafficking or illegal immigration. Comment by
Augusto, Daniel: If this is the crux of your study and reason,
12. you will need to provide more support that one thing is
associated with another. This is one reference to research in
Nigeria. I think more is needed to make this argument, given
how pivotal it is to your study and arguments.
The open southern borders are a problem because of the lack of
policies regulating immigrants' entry into the country and
promoting illegal channels and cartels to traffic immigrants. In
2021, 1.6 million immigrants crossed the New Mexico border
(Hikmatullo Ogli, 2020; Gramlich & Scheller, 2021). According
to the 2020 statistics, California recorded 879,064 illegal
immigrants, Arizona 860,100, Texas 2, 434,899, and New
Mexico 11,098 illegal immigrants that were deported (Trac,
2022).Purpose of the Study Comment by Northcentral

group session on Purpose Statements. Learn more about this
session and find the link to register here.
The purpose of this quantitative study is to examine the
relationship between open borders, drug trafficking, and illegal
immigration. The methodology will be quantitative with a case
study design. Publicly accessible databases, for example, the
United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the
Department of Homeland Security, and other peer-reviewed
resources will be used to generate data. The independent
variable will be open borders, while the dependent variables are
illegal immigration and drug trafficking. This data will include
information from California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
The proximity of these states to the border between the United
States and Mexico makes them excellent locations for carrying
out research and gathering data (Goneppanavar et al., 2019).
Comment by Augusto, Daniel: I have never heard of a
quant case study. Make sure you are well versed on this
specifically.
I will ensure that the data is reliable, valid, and free of bias.
The study will use data from publicly accessible resources. The
13. research will use a theoretical framework and specifically social
theory. Also, some of the publicly accessible resources will be
used, including DHS and CBP databases between 2010 and 2021
from the four states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and
Texas. Prior to data collection, I will obtain IRB approval for
the research. Data will be analyzed using the SPSS software
program. An Analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be performed
to determine the relationship between the dependent and
independent variables. Based on the p-value, the researcher will
determine whether to accept or reject the null hypotheses. The
findings would represent a significant advance in
comprehending the difficulties posed by open borders and the
impact that this has on the illegal trafficking of drugs and
immigration into the United States. Comment by Augusto,
Daniel: I think you are going to have a lot of trouble controlling
for the myriad other potential variables out there that could be
at play. How will you address omitted variable bias?
Introduction to Theoretical Framework Comment by
Northcentral University: Select the heading that reflects
whether you are using a theoretical or conceptual framework,
but do not keep both words in the title. For PhD - Theoretical
Framework, for applied doctorate Conceptual Framework.
I will guide the research using a theoretical framework. In
particular, the social theory. The study of social theory focuses
on societies' origins, structure, and functioning (Macionis,
2018). Social theory is important in this research because it will
help to explain the relationship between open borders, drug
trafficking, and illegal immigration. The key concepts used in
this study are social structure, social change, and social
inequality. Social structure refers to how society is organized
(Macionis, 2018). It includes the institutions and relationships
that makeup society. Social change is how society changes over
time (Macionis, 2018). It can be caused by various factors, such
as technological innovation, economic change, or political
change. Social inequality refers to how some people have more
14. power, resources, or prestige than others (Macionis, 2018).
It can be caused by class, race, or gender factors. The
propositions relevant to this study are as follows: Comment by
Augusto, Daniel: What can be caused?
Also, are you sure it is 'caused' it is difficult to prove a causal
relationship.
1) Open borders lead to increased drug trafficking.
2) Open borders lead to increased illegal immigration.
3) Social inequality leads to increased drug trafficking.
4) Social inequality leads to increased illegal immigration.
According to the first proposition, open borders increase drug
trafficking. As a result, drug traffickers can transport drugs
more easily across poorly protected borders. It is also stated in
the second proposition that open borders promote illegal
immigration. The reason is that illegal immigrants can more
easily cross poorly protected borders. Drug trafficking is
increased by social inequality, according to the third
proposition. Due to economic disadvantages, people who turn to
drug trafficking to make money are more likely to engage in it.
The fourth proposition states that social inequality leads to
increased illegal immigration. The reason is that economically
disadvantaged people are more likely to migrate illegally to find
work.
The theoretical framework guided the research decisions by
helping to develop the problem statement, purpose statement,
and research questions. The problem statement was developed
by considering how open borders can lead to increased drug
trafficking and illegal immigration. The purpose statement was
developed by considering how the research could help improve
understanding of the problems posed by open borders. The
research questions were developed by considering the key
concepts of social structure, social change, and social
inequality. This research also used the theoretical framework to
guide the data collection and analysis. The data collection
focuses on gathering data on the relationship between open
15. borders, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration. The data
analysis focused on examining how social inequality can lead to
increased drug trafficking and illegal immigration. Introduction
to Research Methodology and Design
The research method used for the study is the quantitative
research method. The term "quantitative research method"
describes an approach to studying social, economic, and
psychological phenomena (Crowe et al., 2017). Quantitative
research is distinguished by its emphasis on collecting
numerical data and its application to the generalization of
findings across populations or the explanation of a specific
topic. Researchers can perform simple to highly complex
statistical analyses. For instance, it is summarizing the
information, illustrating correlations, or comparing different
sets of summarized data (Kibuacha, 2021). Quantitative
research is known to approve or disapprove a hypothesis,
making it significant to use in this important research study.
Comment by Augusto, Daniel: Usually the method is more
specific. What type of quant research?
The design for this study will be a case study design. A case
study, as opposed to a more general statistical survey,
investigates one specific instance in greater detail (Crowe et al.,
2017). It is a strategy for condensing a vast study domain into a
single subject that can be investigated relatively easily. The
case study approach will incorporate data from databases like
the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the
Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and other scholarly
publications. Data triangulation is a strategy that boosts a
study's credibility, gathering information from separate sources.
This strategy ensures that its findings are reliable (i.e., the
degree to which the method is suitable for answering the
research questions). The underlying assumption is that evidence
gathered using diverse methods should lead to comparable
findings (Crowe et al., 2017). To guarantee external validity,
researchers must use statistically and demographically accurate
16. data. Therefore, all the data from chosen databases will be
analyzed to ensure that the findings reliably extrapolated to the
population
The quantitative methodology and case study design are
appropriate in addressing the research problem to investigate
whether there is a correlation between illegal immigration, drug
trafficking, and open borders. The quantitative method would
facilitate sourcing numerical data and promote an accurate
generalization of the results. This procedure made significant
inferences about the Department of Homeland Security,
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data. Generalize it, and
ascertain whether there is any correlation between the variables,
thereby accurately addressing the research problem and purpose.
The research ensures that it is conducted according to the
quantitative technique requirements that guarantee an accurate
outcome that offers a more significant conclusion. The research
would target responding to the research questions and proving
the hypothesis.
The research aims to determine if illegal immigration, drug
trafficking, and open borders are correlated. The case study
approach is the best option for the investigation because it
collects a variety of perspectives, in contrast to the singular
view obtained from an individual respondent in surveys or
interviews. This approach allows for a more comprehensive
understanding of the topic and lessens the likelihood of bias.
The enormous data from numerous databases guarantee
correctness and representativeness, ensuring internal and
external validity. The quantitative research approach ensures
that the study's aim is deducible from the problem statement and
that the research questions contribute to answering the study's
overarching aim (Ratelle et al., 2019). Alignment is crucial to
ensure the research study is well-designed and founded on
sound reasoning.
I will use a purposive sampling method in selecting the
databases containing data on drug trafficking and illegal
immigration in those specific states such as California, Texas,
17. New Mexico, and Arizona. I will also draw data for the study
from publicly available sources like CBP and DHS databases
and other scholarly works. The data sourced from the
organization was analyzed to get insight specifically on drug
trafficking and illegal immigration, particularly in the states
mentioned above. Kibuacha (2022) suggested that if the target
population is considerably small, it is possible to sample the
entire population to acquire an accurate picture and
significantly lessen the uncertainty involved. This strategy will
also remove the potential for bias in sample selection, which is
a problem with many studies that use random samples. Before
data collection begins, approval from the IRB is required. The
researcher will use the SPSS software to perform the statistical
data analysis. To confirm or refute the existence of a correlation
between the dependent and independent variables, an analysis of
variance (ANOVA) will be performed. The p-value will provide
the basis for the researcher to decide whether accept or reject
the null hypothesis. Comment by Augusto, Daniel: I think more
info is needed here on the years and data specifics. How will
you incorporate open borders? Research Questions Comment by
Northcentral University: Tip: Research questions beginning
with “To what extent…” or “Under what conditions…” yield
more meaningful data than questions that generate yes/no
responses such as “Is Variable 1 significantly related to
Variable 2?”
The research evaluates the relationship between illegal
immigration, the flow of illicit drugs, and open borders.
RQ1 Comment by Augusto, Daniel: I think this is overly
complex. Couldn't you just examine relationship between illegal
immigration and drugs or open borders and drugs?
To what extent, if any, is there a relationship between illegal
immigration, drug trafficking, and open border?
H1o
18. There is no statistical significant correlation between illegal
immigration, drug trafficking, and an open border.
H1a
There is a statistically significant relationship between illegal
immigration, drug trafficking, and an open border.
RQ2
To what extent, if any, are open borders promoting terrorism
activities? Comment by Augusto, Daniel: I don't think you
established enough of a foundation to go into terrorism. I would
make this an RQ about whichever variable you don't cover in
RQ 1.
H10
There is no significant correlation between open borders and the
promotion of terrorist activities
H1a

University: Tip: Consider the professional and academic
audiences who might be interested in the study results and why.
The current debate surrounding illegal immigration in the
United States is highly polarizing and contentious (Inés, 2019).
There is a wide range of opinions and perspectives on the
matter, and the issue is of great importance to the country (Inés,
2019).
This research is important, especially for policymakers, to
evaluate current information and the need for immigration
policy changes and enforcing drug trafficking. In addition, it
provides an in-depth analysis of illegal immigration and the
chain of distribution for illegal drugs in the United States due to
the open borders (Izcara Palacios, 2019).
19. The findings would represent a significant advance in
comprehending the difficulties posed by open borders and the
impact that this has on the illegal trafficking of drugs and
immigration into the United States. This research is important
for leaders and practitioners in the field because it can help
them evaluate current information and the need for immigration
policy changes and enforcing drug trafficking. The findings
would contribute to the literature by providing a better
understanding of the difficulties posed by open borders and the
impact that this has on the illegal trafficking of drugs and
immigration into the United States.
This research is also significant because it can help to inform
and shape policy decisions regarding illegal immigration and
drug trafficking. This study's findings may help improve current
policies and procedures related to these issues. In addition, the
research could help to raise awareness of the problem of illegal
immigration and drug trafficking and the need for practical
solutions to address these challenges. Definitions of Key Terms
1.
Drug trafficking: The illegal trade of drugs.
Comment by Augusto, Daniel: Reference needed
2. Illegal immigration: This is Immigration that occurs when
people enter a country without the government’s permission or
stay in a country longer than their visa allows (Gramlich &
Scheller, 2021).
3.Open borders: A policy with no restrictions on the movement
of people between countries (Davis, 2011).
Summary
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship
between open borders, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration.
The study will use data from publicly accessible resources, such
as the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and
20. the Department of Homeland Security, to generate data. The
data will be analyzed using the SPSS software program. An
Analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be performed to determine
the relationship between the dependent and independent
variables. Based on the p-value, the researcher will determine
whether to accept or reject the null hypotheses. This research is
important, especially for policymakers, to evaluate current
information and the need for immigration policy changes and
enforcing drug trafficking. In addition, it provides an in-depth
analysis of illegal immigration and the chain of distribution for
illegal drugs in the United States due to the open borders
(Izcara Palacios, 2019). The findings would represent a
significant advance in comprehending the difficulties posed by
open borders and the impact that this has on the illegal
trafficking of drugs and immigration into the United
States.Chapter 2: Literature Review Comment by Northcentral

literature should be done to locate an appropriate
psychometrically sound instrument. However, if such an
instrument is not located after a thorough search, and you plan
to develop a new instrument, consult survey item and instrument
development resources and plan piloting and validation
procedures. Describe the development process in detail and
provide evidence of the instrument’s validity and reliability.
Include the final instrument developed based on those findings.
The evidence of validity and reliability should be reported in

Deportations due to drug convictions are only one aspect of the
growing "crimmigration nexus" between the criminal justice
system and immigration enforcement agencies. As illustrated by
this article, from 2009-2016, an average of 34,600 noncitizens
have deported annually due to drug charges (U.S. Immigration
and Customs Enforcement, 2017). In 2018, 76,585 noncitizens
were seized by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for
drug crimes, second only to those apprehended for DUI (U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 2018).
There is much proof and backing for the statements made in the
text. There are current examples and references to research that
might help any reader regarding the relationship that exists
between immigration and drug trafficking. The primary sources
for this article come from a year of ethnographic observation of
removal procedures in the New York City immigration court
and 39 interviews with immigration attorneys, criminal lawyers,
and activists. Added are summaries of related policies and
studies on deportation for drug offenses.

This article published on the P.J. media illustrates how the US-
Mexico border worsened after Biden's open border policy. The
author argues that the open border is helping to spread
lawlessness. Now that the border is open, fentanyl, an opioid, is
pouring in. The article vividly illustrated how the highly
addictive and deadly narcotic fentanyl had flooded the southern
border due to the porous border and poor security relations with
Mexico. More than three times as much fentanyl as they did in
the same period the year before was captured by customs
officials between October 2020 and March 2021. Since 2019,
cartel earnings have skyrocketed thanks to rising demand in the
United States. In 2016, illegal narcotics caused the deaths of
more than 90,000.Appendix C

This article published on the Reuters website illustrates how an
open border increases the cases of drug trafficking. According
to the article's author, the number of cases involving
transnational drug trafficking almost quadrupled from 279 in
2016 to 562 in 2020, according to a European prosecutor's
organization study. Nearly a third of them were new and
synthetic medications. This surprising information was
primarily due to the massive growth in the creation of synthetic
substances. Prosecutors in the European Union have a
significant problem responding to the rising volume of synthetic
drug manufacture and sales on the dark web.
42. The author has clearly illustrated several factors related to the
dramatic increase in illegal immigration. As international
commerce has become more integrated, people have more
freedom to travel. The United States has the proper
infrastructure and rules for immigrant entrepreneurs because of
its advanced economy.

Chapter 1: Introduction
It is no secret that the United States shares a long and complex
history with Mexico,
particularly regarding immigration. In recent years, the issue of
illegal immigration has again
come to the forefront of public debates. Many people argue that
the country's borders should be
closed to prevent drug trafficking and other criminal activity (
Slack, 2019). However, others
argue that an open border is necessary to allow people to seek a
better life for themselves and
their families. However, open borders provide drug traffickers
with easy access to bring illegal
drugs into the country. Therefore, it is necessary to research if
there is a relationship between
49. illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and an open border (Inés,
2019). According to Finley &
Esposito (2020), there is no one answer to the question of
whether the United States should have
an open border. The issue is complex, and the researcher must
consider various factors to allow
future debates and discussions on the topic (Inés, 2019).
A strong connection between illegal immigration, drug
smuggling, and an open border
would only exacerbate this problem (Finley & Esposito, 2020).
The current debate surrounding illegal immigration in the
United States is highly
polarizing and contentious (Inés, 2019). There is a wide range
of opinions and perspectives on
the matter, and the issue is of great importance to the country
(Inés, 2019). There is often
reference to illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and an open
border in the same breath (Finley
& Esposito (2020). According to Finley & Esposito (2020),
there is a very close relationship
between the three. A study by the University of Arizona found
that "a 10 percent increase in
border enforcement is associated with a 9 percent decrease in
50. the probability of drug trafficking."
(Davies, 2011, p. 12). A study by the RAND Corporation found
that "the relationship between

border enforcement and drug trafficking is small and not
statistically significant"( pp. 340–345).
In other words, the study found that drug trafficking is not
significantly impacted by border
enforcement. According to the Fiscal Year by Customs and
Border Protection (CBP), the data
has changed since 2018. There is more illegal border crossing
and drug trafficking than ever
before. In the Fiscal Year 2018, CBP booked 4,657 pounds of
narcotics, while in the Fiscal year
2021, 4,732 pounds of drugs were booked by CBP. Also, 11,623
non-documented immigrants
entered the borders in 2018, while the number increased in 2021
to 13,883. However, the
available research suggests a strong relationship between the
52. three (Eshkobilov, 2022).
According to Bauder (2017), illegal immigration, drug
trafficking, and an open border are
all interconnected issues. Research has shown that illegal
immigration and drug trafficking are
strongly linked, with drug trafficking being a significant reason
why people choose to migrate
illegally. Illegal immigration is a significant and empirical issue
since it affects health care,
education, and food needs (Davis, 2011). The issue of drug
trafficking is important since the
open border in 2021 increased drug overdoses, public health,
and safety. According to
Eshkobilov (2022), the issue of illegal immigration is important
because it challenges traditional
ideas about borders and sovereignty. Every day, 300 people die
from drug overdoses, especially
fentanyl illegally smuggled into the U.S. through the open
border. According to Cha (2020), the
issue of an open border is important because it challenges the
idea of the nation-state as a closed
system.
During the Trump administration, illegal immigration and drug
trafficking were critical
53. priorities, and the border wall was starting to be built. Since
2021, the border has been open, and
drugs and illegal immigrants are flowing into the country. An
estimated 11 million
3
undocumented immigrants live in the United States (Meade &
Nancy, 2018). Drug trafficking is
at its height, resulting in the highest number of overdoses while
the cartels make enormous
profits. An estimated $100 billion of drugs are trafficked
annually through the southern border
(Meade & Nancy, 2018).
Statement of the Problem
The problem to be addressed in this study is to research if there
is a relationship between
illegal immigration, open border, and drug trafficking. Illegal
activities such as drug trafficking
and illegal immigration occur when there is a lack of border
control (Cha, 2020). Open borders
affect society, law enforcement, public safety, and the
government. It also allows people from
54. any country to enter the United States without background
checks and provides the perfect
environment for terrorism (Choi, 2018). Having an open border
will make it easy for criminals
from other nations to enter the United States (Hikmatullo Ogli,
2020). There is a challenge in
controlling movements on an open border when immigration
agencies fail to regulate people
entering the country. According to Molobe & Odukoya (2021),
increased cases of drug
trafficking occur when people smuggle drugs across an open
border, like the southern border
between Mexico and the United States. In FY2021, CBP seized
624,500 pounds of drugs
compared to the fiscal year 2020, the cocaine seizures increased
by 68%; Methamphetamine
seizures increased by 7%; Heroin seizures decreased by 6%;
Fentanyl seizures increased by
134% (Seagren, 2020).
The open southern borders are a problem because of the lack of
policies regulating
immigrants' entry into the country and promoting illegal
channels and cartels to traffic
immigrants. In 2021, 1.6 million immigrants crossed the New
55. Mexico border (Hikmatullo Ogli,
4
2020; Gramlich & Scheller, 2021). According to the 2020
statistics, California recorded 879,064
illegal immigrants, Arizona 860,100, Texas 2, 434,899, and
New Mexico 11,098 illegal
immigrants that were deported (Trac, 2022).
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this quantitative study is to examine the
relationship between open
borders, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration. The
methodology will be quantitative with a
case study design. Publicly accessible databases, for example,
the United States Customs and
Border Protection (CBP), the Department of Homeland Security,
and other peer-reviewed
resources, will be used to generate data. The independent
variable will be open borders, while the
dependent variables are illegal immigration and drug
trafficking. This data will include
information from California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
The proximity of these states to
56. the border between the United States and Mexico makes them
excellent locations for carrying
out research and gathering data (Goneppanavar et al., 2019).
I will ensure that the data is reliable, valid, and free of bias.
The study will use data from
publicly accessible resources. The research will use a
theoretical framework and specifically
social theory. Also, some of the publicly accessible resources
will be used, including DHS and
CBP databases between 2010 and 2021 from the four states of
California, Arizona, New Mexico,
and Texas. Prior to data collection, I will obtain IRB approval
for the research. Data will be
analyzed using the SPSS software program. An Analysis of
variance (ANOVA) will be
performed to determine the relationship between the dependent
and independent variables. Based
on the p-value, the researcher will determine whether to accept

borders and the impact that this has on the illegal trafficking of
drugs and immigration into the
United States.
Introduction to Theoretical Framework
I will guide the research using a theoretical framework. In
particular, the social theory.
The study of social theory focuses on societies' origins,
structure, and functioning (Macionis,
2018). Social theory is important in this research because it will
help to explain the relationship
between open borders, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration.
The key concepts used in this
study are social structure, social change, and social inequality.
Social structure refers to how
society is organized (Macionis, 2018). It includes the
institutions and relationships that makeup
society. Social change refers to the ways in which society
changes over time (Macionis, 2018). It
can be caused by various factors, such as technological
58. innovation, economic change, or political
change. Social inequality refers to the ways in which some
people have more power, resources,
or prestige than others (Macionis, 2018).
It can be caused by class, race, or gender factors. The
propositions relevant to this study are as
follows:
1) Open borders lead to increased drug trafficking.
2) Open borders lead to increased illegal immigration.
3) Social inequality leads to increased drug trafficking.
4) Social inequality leads to increased illegal immigration.
According to the first proposition, open borders increase drug
trafficking. As a result,
drug traffickers can transport drugs more easily across poorly
protected borders. It is also stated
in the second proposition that open borders promote illegal
immigration. The reason is that
tThese are hypothetical statements, not propositions. Consider
moving this language to the discussion about the research
questions. It is not necessary here in the discussion about the
theory..
tThis information and what follows on the next page are
59. considered rhetorical statements. Without the inclusion of
citations from high quality sources, this discussion has little
value. In fact, you might consider moving this to the literature
review, says this does not relate directly to a description of
social theory..
6
illegal immigrants can more easily cross poorly protected
borders. Drug trafficking is increased
by social inequality, according to the third proposition. Due to
economic disadvantages, people
who turn to drug trafficking to make money are more likely to
engage in it. The fourth
proposition states that social inequality leads to increased
illegal immigration. The reason is that
economically disadvantaged people are more likely to migrate
illegally to find work.
The theoretical framework guided the research decisions by
helping to develop the
problem statement, purpose statement, and research questions.
The problem statement was
developed by considering the ways in which open borders can
lead to increased drug trafficking
and illegal immigration. The purpose statement was developed
by considering how the research
60. could help improve understanding of the problems posed by
open borders. The research
questions were developed by considering the key concepts of
social structure, social change, and
social inequality. This research also used the theoretical
framework to guide the data collection
and analysis. The data collection focuses on gathering data on
the relationship between open
borders, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration. The data
analysis focused on examining how
social inequality can lead to increased drug trafficking and
illegal immigration.
Introduction to Research Methodology and Design
The research method used for the study is the quantitative
research method. The term
"quantitative research method" describes an approach to
studying social, economic, and
psychological phenomena (Crowe et al., 2017). Quantitative
research is distinguished by its
emphasis on collecting numerical data and its application to the
generalization of findings across
populations or the explanation of a specific topic. Researchers
can perform simple to highly
complex statistical analyses. For instance, it is summarizing the
61. information, illustrating
7
correlations, or comparing different sets of summarized data
(Kibuacha, 2021). Quantitative
research is known to approve or disapprove a hypothesis,
making it significant to use in this
important research study.
The design for this study will be a case study design. A case
study, as opposed to a more
general statistical survey, investigates one specific instance in
greater detail (Crowe et al., 2017).
It is a strategy for condensing a vast study domain into a single
subject that can be investigated
relatively easily. The case study approach will incorporate data
from databases like the United
States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS), and
other scholarly publications. Data triangulation is a strategy
that boosts a study's credibility,
gathering information from separate sources. This strategy
ensures that its findings are reliable
(i.e., the degree to which the method is suitable for answering
62. the research questions). The
underlying assumption is that evidence gathered using diverse
methods should lead to
comparable findings (Crowe et al., 2017). To guarantee external
validity, researchers must use
statistically and demographically accurate data. Therefore, all
the data from chosen databases
will be analyzed to ensure that the findings reliably extrapolated
to the population
The quantitative methodology and case study design are
appropriate in addressing the
research problem to investigate whether there is a correlation
between illegal immigration, drug
trafficking, and open borders. The quantitative method would
facilitate sourcing numerical data
and promote an accurate generalization of the results. This
procedure made significant inferences
about the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and
Border Protection (CBP) data.
Generalize it, and ascertain whether there is any correlation
between the variables, thereby
accurately addressing the research problem and purpose. The
research ensures that it is
63. 8
conducted according to the quantitative technique requirements
that guarantee an accurate
outcome that offers a more significant conclusion. The research
would target responding to the
research questions and proving the hypothesis.
The research aims to determine if illegal immigration, drug
trafficking, and open borders
are correlated. The case study approach is the best option for
the investigation because it collects
a variety of perspectives, in contrast to the singular view
obtained from an individual respondent
in surveys or interviews. This approach allows for a more
comprehensive understanding of the
topic and lessens the likelihood of bias. The enormous data
from numerous databases guarantee
correctness and representativeness, ensuring internal and
external validity. The quantitative
research approach ensures that the study's aim is deducible from
the problem statement and that
the research questions contribute to answering the study's
overarching aim (Ratelle et al., 2019).
Alignment is crucial to ensure the research study is well-
64. designed and founded on sound
reasoning.
I will use a purposive sampling method in selecting the
databases containing data on drug
trafficking and illegal immigration in those specific states such
as California, Texas, New
Mexico, and Arizona. I will also draw data for the study from
publicly available sources like
CBP and DHS databases and other scholarly works. The data
sourced from the organization was
analyzed to get insight specifically on drug trafficking and
illegal immigration, particularly in the
states mentioned above. Kibuacha (2022) suggested that if the
target population is considerably
small, it is possible to sample the entire population to acquire
an accurate picture and
significantly lessen the uncertainty involved. This strategy will
also remove the potential for bias
in sample selection, which is a problem with many studies that
use random samples. Before data
9
collection begins, approval from the IRB is required. The
65. researcher will use the SPSS software
to perform the statistical data analysis. To confirm or refute the
existence of a correlation
between the dependent and independent variables, an analysis of
variance (ANOVA) will be
performed. The p-value will provide the basis for the researcher
to decide whether accept or
reject the null hypothesis.

Significance of the Study
The current debate surrounding illegal immigration in the
United States is highly
polarizing and contentious (Inés, 2019). There is a wide range
of opinions and perspectives on
67. the matter, and the issue is of great importance to the country
(Inés, 2019).
This research is important, especially for policymakers, to
evaluate current information
and the need for immigration policy changes and enforcing drug
trafficking. In addition, it
provides an in-depth analysis of illegal immigration and the
chain of distribution for illegal drugs
in the United States due to the open borders (Izcara Palacios,
2019).
The findings would represent a significant advance in
comprehending the difficulties
posed by open borders and the impact that this has on the illegal
trafficking of drugs and
immigration into the United States. This research is important
for leaders and practitioners in the
field because it can help them evaluate current information and
the need for immigration policy
changes and enforcing drug trafficking. The findings would
contribute to the literature by
providing a better understanding of the difficulties posed by
open borders and the impact that
this has on the illegal trafficking of drugs and immigration into
the United States.
68. This research is also significant because it can help to inform
and shape policy decisions
regarding illegal immigration and drug trafficking. This study's
findings may help improve
current policies and procedures related to these issues. In
addition, the research could help to
11
raise awareness of the problem of illegal immigration and drug
trafficking and the need for
practical solutions to address these challenges.
Definitions of Key Terms
1. Drug trafficking: The illegal trade of drugs.
2. Illegal immigration: This is Immigration that occurs when
people enter a country
without the government’s permission or stay in a country longer
than their visa allows (Gramlich
& Scheller, 2021).
3. Open borders: A policy with no restrictions on the movement
of people between
countries (Davis, 2011).
Summary
69. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship
between open borders, drug
trafficking, and illegal immigration. The study will use data
from publicly accessible resources,
such as the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
and the Department of
Homeland Security, to generate data. The data will be analyzed
using the SPSS software
program. An Analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be performed
to determine the relationship
between the dependent and independent variables. Based on the
p-value, the researcher will
determine whether to accept or reject the null hypotheses. This
research is important, especially
for policymakers, to evaluate current information and the need
for immigration policy changes
and enforcing drug trafficking. In addition, it provides an in-
depth analysis of illegal immigration
and the chain of distribution for illegal drugs in the United
States due to the open borders (Izcara
