- 17% of Australian children suffer from lack of adequate food due to climate change impacts like droughts and water shortages which can cause food shortages. The 2011 Queensland banana crop was severely damaged by Cyclone Yasi resulting in higher banana prices.
- Ways to prevent food shortages mentioned include sustainable soil and land management practices like limited grazing areas, transporting food between countries during shortages, and being aware of local climate conditions when growing crops.
- Students discussed learning about various environmental topics like habitat loss, drought, litter and its impacts, and overpopulation of animals from their projects. They mentioned sharing what they learned with family and friends.

Rought Draft #1 : Food & Water
Food and water is the most important things in human life. We eat food and drink
water to survive in the world. A lot of people know that food and water is really important
to them but they don’t really care about throwing away food and water. Because most
people think that the society has enough food and water, they always throw away their
leftover food and water. Although, people thinks that we have an unlimited sources for
food and water, world clearly shows that not just America, but other countries are
struggling with drought situations and they are slowly running out of food. This is not the
only problem. A lot of people in this society is having trouble with obese because of food
and water. Although, people can eat whatever they want to eat, they should have a limit
because United States’ obesity problem is getting worse than before and a lot of people
dies every year because of obesity.
“If the average calories consumed at each visit were reduced by approximately
60 calories, the population impact on obesity could be significant,” (American Journal of
Preventive Medicine). Obesity started when America started to build a lot of fast food
restaurants. For example, McDonalds, BurgerKing, KFC, ETC. These fast food chain
store changed a lot of people’s life in a bad way. People started to gain weight and sick
because of these fast food restaurants. Because fast food store’s foods have a lot of
calories and unhealthy ingredient, people starts to gain overweight. However, some
people thinks that obesity isn’t bad as diseases or cancers. Which is true but it is not
easy to get back to normal when you become obese because people get addicted by
fast foods and they won’t be able to stop eating. Obesity causes lack of balance energy
for your body system. For example, when normal person eats food, the calories
balances out of your weight and calories you need. However, if you have obese,
calories doesn’t balance and the fat gets created inside the body. This causes coronary
heart disease and high blood pressure. Honestly, people don’t really have to worry
about food and water if they exercise and move around regularly. Obesity is generally
caused by eating fast foods or any kinds of food without exercising or moving. Even
though food and water is really important to us, people need to know that food and
water can be dangerous to us if we don’t exercise or move around after we eat. Our
environment doesn’t support healthy lifestyle habits so it encourages obesity. The
solution of the obesity is to work out/diet, and make rules in school/work/private places
that they have to move around at least 30 minutes. The cause of obesity can be being
lazy but the main point is about how much food and what kind of food you eat.
In this society, every ingredients are limited. Even though there are ...

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. What I’ve learnt
• 17% of children in Australia are suffering from having not much food.
• In Australia climate change and water shortages influence food shortages.
• In 2011 Australia faced a shortage on bananas due to cyclone Yasi in
Queensland. Bananas price was higher as the cyclone destroyed 80% of the
banana field or of our bananas in Queensland.
• Nearly 16,000 children in the world die of hunger every day.
What I am going to do with the learning
I am going to do with the learning is tell my friends and family so they know and I would try to
spread it around the world.
WHAT TO DO TO PREVENT FOOD SHORTAGES….
Some ways to prevent food shortages is:
• Look after your soil
• Let your cattle in limited areas
• If there are any shortages; humans should transport food to the other countries
• be aware in what area you live in e.g. if you live in a dry area and plant food for people, water your
plants regularly.
3. Litter/ Rubbish
I have learnt about how rubbish can affect the
environment and water ways. And what affects leaf litter
has on water ways and lakes.
By Camden
4. Droughts
What I have learned…
I learned that droughts occur
and can stay for up 10 years.
Australia has had the worst 2
droughts called the Federation
Drought and Millennium
Drought.
The Murray River was drying
out.
5. What I have learnt by
Samson
• I have learnt that lots of countries have been losing their rainforests/ habitats and that it’s not just the
trees and habitats getting effected it’s also the animals and plants.
• I’ve also learnt that Shrinking Habitats are getting destroyed to make new land either for housing or work
places.
• I have also learnt that lots of supplies such as food are being chopped down with the habitats
• Unfortunately some animals do not have a place to stay after their habitats get destroyed
• Most habitats that are getting destroyed in Australia are mainly in Queensland
6. Hi I’m Ruby…

7. Nuclear Energy
Hello! I am Mai. I attend Norwood Primary School in South Australia.
While working on my assignment, I gained knowledge on many aspects of nuclear energy.
Whether or not nuclear energy should become our main source of power remains a
controversial question. However, I learnt how nuclear energy is produced, and how it is a
source of energy. I have also learnt about the advantages and disadvantages of using nuclear
energy, and the worries people have of using this source because it is considered to be
dangerous. I have found out that there are currently no nuclear reactors (power plants) in
Australia, but the South Australian Prime Minister Jay Weatherill is deciding whether or not
to place a nuclear reactor in Australia.
8. What I have learnt
• I have learnt that lots of medicine, food, meat, water, wood and many more things come from
these different habitats.
• I have also learnt that most habitats are getting destroyed mainly in Queensland.
9. Hi I have enjoyed this experience I have learnt about the
situation in Thailand where in the hills they burn so that
mushrooms grow.
I learnt also that in South Australia they charge for plastic
bags each plastic bag is 10c.
I learnt that leaf litter can be such a problem to the
environment and what it does.
I didn’t know there are a variety types of litter or rubbish.
I learnt there was such thing as animal over-population.
10. What I've learnt
•No-till prevents soil erosion.
•Farmers till soil to prepare the seed bed.
•Tilled soil is at a greater risk of soil erosion.
•Soil erosion can destroy large amounts of farmland.
•In the USA just the lower Mississippi river costs more than $100
million a year to fix soil erosion.
•Other costs for soil erosion are immeasurable.
•In the 19th century in the Great Plains of the United States the dust
bowl wind tilled the topsoil and destroyed 65 million hectares of
farmland.
•Around the world soil-erosion is increasing
This is where I
live
11. What I’ve Learnt
• Australia waste about $8 billion in a year.
• Wasting food also means wasting water, energy and resources.
• The average Australian household $1,036 is thrown away each year.
What I am going to do with the learning
• I am going to tell my family and friends about what is happening.
By Daveeda
12. Hi my name is Baili.
My topic was droughts. I had a lot of fun
and learnt a lot throughout this project.
Edmodo
14. What I've learnt
I’ve learnt that eucalyptus trees are being threatened because of a temperature difference of 3.5
degrees.
Global warming is affecting The Great Barrier Reef by the water getting too warm.
The plants and animals are suffering because they are not used to the warm conditions.
What I'm going to do with my learning
I can beware of the global warming and its effects on plants.
And I can also tell friends and family to not drive as much to lower the effect of global warming on
plants.

15. Hi,
I’ve enjoyed every bit of this
project and I have learnt a lot
from all of the news people have
given me that relate to the topic
group I have been put in. With
the information I have found
and the information that others
have given me, I will use that
interesting info when I am
sharing information with
others.
This is a picture of a red
European fox. The red fox is a
huge threat to Australia and is
causing major issues which is
stopping the agriculture
business and butcher
businesses
I really enjoyed doing this project and I learnt a lot!
I learnt…
That global warming increases the severity and frequency of floods, droughts and bushfires in Australia… I also learnt about El Nino and La Nina events; what they are and what causes them.
What I’m taking away from this project…
I now know how to use a lot of new websites, which I believe will be very useful in the future..
I’ve learnt
About suffering plants and that lots of farmers are losing their crop because of global warming. Also The Great Barrier Reef is getting too warm and native plants and animals are dying from the warmer water.
Global warming is making some areas in Australia have a decrease of rain and others an increase. This change is causing drought in some areas and floods in others. The plants are not getting enough water or they’re getting drowned by the floods.
Some of the things I'm going to do with my learning are….
Use less water in the shower
Save water usage
Plant trees and plants
Look after the plants in my garden
Not just watch the plants die
