Romeo And Juliet Doomed To Fail
Shakespeare's classic play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a story of two lovers, Romeo
Montague, and Juliet Capulet, whose families were feuding for years and years, who meet at a party,
and fall in love. They then get married the next day, without either of their parents consent. The day
after that, a fight breaks out, and Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, kills Mercutio, Romeo's best friend, which
ultimately leads to Romeo killing Tybalt, and Romeo's banishment. Juliet hears of this, and sets up a
plan to take a sleeping potion so she appears dead, and to meet Romeo. Romeo does not get the
message that Juliet is not really dead, and thinking she is dead, kills himself so he can be with her,
then Juliet, seeing her husband dead, kills herself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the prologue, Shakespeare describes the couple of Romeo and Juliet as " a pair of star–crossed
lovers..." (prologue, line 6). "Star–crossed lovers", in the dictionary are defined as "lovers whose
relationship are doomed to fail", in simpler terms, a couple, destined to end, and a bad end at that. A
prime example of that being Romeo and Juliet, lovers brought together, and then torn apart, all by
destiny. Also, in Act 5, Friar John, supposed to be delivering a very important message to Romeo,
says, in relation to his letter for Romeo, " Sealed up the doors, and would not let us forth, so that my
speed to Mantua there was stayed... I could not send it –here it is again– nor get a messenger to
bring it thee, so fearful were they of infection." ( act V, scene 2, lines 11–16). At this point in time,
Mantua, where Romeo was banished to, was infected, and had been quarantined, not letting people
in and out, and because of that, John could not get in. Since John didn't manage to get in to Mantua,
Romeo believed that Juliet, his wife, had truly died, which ultimately leads to his death. So, destiny
caused Romeo and Juliet's untimely

Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet
A father figure is "someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional
substitute for a father." William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of
star– cross'd lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together.
When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure
which influences several actions in the play. Friar's role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is
central to understanding his support for Romeo's love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to
Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar's acceptance for Romeo's love for Juliet
is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can
be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night
and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, "Young men's love then lies / Not truly in their
hearts, but in their eyes." Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named
Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he
cares for Romeo and his well–being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand
Romeo's situation and give him some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar's support
for Romeo's love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of
Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is
distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things
have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar
tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. He states: But look thou stay not till the
watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua, Where thou shalt live till we can find a time To
blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of the Prince, and call thee back With
twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou

Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis
Told by Friar John, 'Wherefore the infectious pestilence did reign. Seal'd up the doors, and would
not let us forth; So that my speed to Mantua there was stay'd.' (5. 3. 10 – 12) In Shakespeare's
tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare utilizes the niche of fate to transition the story into the next
scene. As for the events that happened in the story, have also happen in Shakespeare's in real life.
One meaningful demonstration, The Black Plague, that caused his parent's death, was used when it
stopped Friar John from delivering the message to Romeo in Mantua. In addition, fated occurrences
affect the decision the characters, exploring these events will tell how natural coincidence changes
the outcome dramatically.
Our ill–fated Romeo can show examples of fate through his story with Juliet. According to (3. 1.37–
39) Romeo says, "Tybalt, the reason I have to love thee Doth many excuses the appertaining rage to
such a greeting. Villain am I none", he did not expect Tybalt's sudden entrance, the author had
planned out, Tybalt will be the main antagonist in the story. It had not been due to the decision by
Romeo for Tybalt to enter, thus shows signs as a fated occurrence. Romeo never thought to fight or
talk with Tybalt during the scene. By meeting Tybalt, the author could introduce the main conflict in
the tragedy. This scene shows a greater significance since it also leads to the death of Mercutio and
Tybalt himself. Next, before Romeo had stumbled to the balcony in the Capulet

Responsibility of Friar Lawrence in Shakespeare's Romeo...
"From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, A pair of star– crossed lovers take their life, Whose
misadventured piteous overthrows, Doth with their death bury their parents' strife." There are many
reasons to the tragedy of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The tragedy, of Romeo and
Juliet, involves a pair of ill– fated lovers who by their deaths will end the long and bitter feud that
has been raging between their families for centuries. There are many incidents that occurred and
many people could be blamed for the deaths of the two lovers. However, I believe that Friar
Laurence is the one character most at fault for the tragedy that occurred. One of the mistakes that
Friar Laurence made was sending Friar John with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is the one that informed Romeo of Juliet's "death" in the first place and was able to get into the
city of Mantua despite the Black Plague. Another mistake that Friar Laurence made was conjuring
up a plan that involves Juliet taking a sleeping potion. "Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And
this distilling liquor drink thou off..." "...stiff and stark and cold appear, like death, And this
borrowed likeness of shrunk death, Thou shalt continue two and forty hours, And then wake as from
a pleasant sleep. (Act 4– Scene 1, Pg. 99)" The plan that Friar Laurence was speaking of was Juliet
taking a potion that made her seem as though she was dead for forty– two hours. The family,
believing her to bed dead, would have her taken to the Capulet burial vault. When she would
awaken, Romeo would have already been informed of the plan and be there to take there to Mantua.
His convincing Juliet to take the potion is another reason to blame for the death is because he never
considered what would happen if the potion did not allow Juliet to return from her "pleasant sleep".
Romeo would have thought that Friar Laurence had killed her by giving her poison and then he
would be executed for killing Friar Laurence in his rage of anger. The last of the many mistakes that
Friar Laurence made, that led to the series of tragic events, was agreeing to perform the marriage
ceremony for the two lovers. "Thy love did not

The Role Of Fate In Romeo And Juliet
Fate is the development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a
supernatural power. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare states in the
prologue of the story that Romeo and Juliet are going to die. No matter what happens, no one can
change it. In the prologue it specifically states that no individual in Romeo and Juliet can determine
their own fate. "The lovers are forced to desperate actions that doom them to death.." ( Prologue,
line 12) Fate is shown when Romeo and Benvolio run into the Servant from the Capulet house and
Romeo reads the list of guests to the party. If he had not run into the Servant, he would not have
gone and met Juliet. Friar Lawrence made this huge plan after marrying them to get them to move
away and start a new life but fate decided to take over and no matter what, Romeo would come back
and they would both die. Lastly, Shakespeare showed an individual has no ability to determine their
own fate when Lord Capulet changed the wedding date from Thursday to Wednesday and it caused a
lot of commotion. Romeo and Benvolio were strolling through downtown Verona and they ran into a
Servant from the Capulet house. The Servant had been given an order from Lord Capulet to take the
list he had given him and go find every person on that list and invite them to his party he was having
that night. The problem was that the Servant could not read. He saw Romeo and Benvolio and asked
if they could read, not

Mentors In Romeo And Juliet
The Nurse and Friar Lawrence are mentors to the young people in "Romeo and Juliet". The Nurse
tried her best to help Juliet and was the person who raised her. Friar Lawrence gave advice to
Romeo and tries to keep him on track. I think these two mentors made many wrong decisions. Friar
Lawrence's biggest mistake was the plan to get Romeo and Juliet back together and leave to Mantua.
Thou shalt be borne to that same ancient vault Where all the kindred of the Capulets lie. In the
meantime, against thou shalt awake, Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift, And hither shall he
come, and he and I Will watch thy waking, and that very night Shall Romeo bear thee hence to
Mantua. I think this is a bad plan because Juliet could just leave to Mantua ... Show more content on

After this we know how the play will end. The Nurse does a better job mentoring Juliet I think. She
does what Juliet wants her to if she feels it is a good idea and helps Romeo and Juliet communicate.
The Nurse does not fully understand how Juliet feels about Romeo. The Nurse gives good advice
about marrying Paris but Juliet doesn't accept it and gets the plan from Friar Lawrence. Romeo's a
dishclout to him. An eagle, madam, Hath not so green, so quick, so fair an eye As Paris hath.
Beshrew my very heart, I think you are happy in this second match, For it excels your first. Or if it
did not, Your first is dead, or 'twere as good he were, As living here and you no use of him None of
the characters in this play use common sense. The Nurse and the Friar don't think with common
sense and come up with ideas that could work but are not the best answer. The Nurse and Friar
Lawrence guided the characters well in some spots. The Nurse was very supportive when Juliet
wanted to marry Romeo. Friar Lawrence had the great idea of marrying Romeo and Juliet because it
might stop the fighting between the Capulets and the Montagues. The best thing these mentors could
have done was try to guide them out of trouble and they

Where Was Monteverdi's Maestro Di Cappella?
It is apparent that musicians have been selected to maestro di cappella positions shown from the
evidence of Monteverdi's experiences at Mantua. Monteverdi in 1609, was asked to request the
availability of a certain Galeazzo Sirena for him to serve as maestro di cappella for Prince Francesco
Gonzaga. Although he was worried shown in a letter, he wrote later questioning what would happen
after the death of the Duke of Mantua, since the prince would have the power to appoint whoever he
chose as his director of music.
Through those times, Monteverdi was planning to have his brother installed as the prince's maestro
di cappella. Even then, in the end, the fears of Monteverdi became reality. In February 1612 the

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet
Two star–crossed lovers in a city full of hate take their own lives, thinking it is the right thing to do.
Many who commit suicide think death is the only way out. Out of their pain, sorrow, and heartbreak,
but it is not the only option. For Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet suicide is not the only option.
Three alternatives Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet could have chosen instead are the pair
sneaking out of Verona after Romeo Montague's banishment, telling friends and family about the
secret wedding, or having a secret meeting with Romeo Montague, Juliet Capulet, Friar Laurence,
and the Nurse of the Capulets. The first viable option for Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet is to
sneak out of Verona after Romeo Montague's banishment. When Romeo comes to say his goodbyes
to Juliet during the night, they should take the opportunity to sneak away and go to Mantua. "O, find
him! Give this ring to my true knight and bid him come to take his last farewell" says Juliet
(3.3.142–143). When Romeo comes to spend the night with Juliet, they need to make the plan for
Romeo and Juliet to sneak out which includes using the Nurse of the Capulets. After sneaking out of

Romeo should tell the Kinsman of the Prince Mercutio and Benvolio of the house of Montague
about the wedding plans Romeo has made. Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio then go to Friar
Laurence's cell to make the arrangements. "The slip, sir, the slip. Can you not conceive" says
Mercutio ( 2.4 44). At this point Romeo and Juliet aren't married, but he is planning on marrying her
on this day. Then Juliet and Romeo get married and then tell their parents about the wedding. This
option will get Romeo and Juliet into a lot of trouble, but this could save not only them, but possibly
Tybalt as well. This is still only two out of the many reasonable choices the pair

Baltasar Castiglione
Humanism, in the broad sense, means valuing the human being and the human condition. In this
sense, it is related to generosity, compassion and concern for the valuation of human attributes and
relationships.
It was a philosophical, intellectual and cultural movement that began in Italy in the fourteenth
century with the Renaissance and spread throughout Europe, breaking with the strong influence
exerted by the Catholic Church on all orders of life during the Middle Ages.
Baldassare Catiglione
Baldassar or Baltasar Castiglione; Is considered a high figure of humanism since he was a member
of a noble family, who studied in Milan, and where he received a humanistic and courteous
education.

In it he describes the Renaissance's ideal of life and advocates a model of a gentleman who responds
to the anxieties and the worldview he had at that time: the perfect gentleman should be as expert in
weapons as in letters, know how to converse and Deal with others (especially with ladies), and play
some musical instrument.
In the first dialogue there is much talk about the birth and varied education of the gentleman; In the
second, of his qualities as a social man and his attitude in the different circumstances; The third
draws the ideal of the perfect lady of the palace; The fourth deals with the relations of the courtier
with the prince, and closes with a dissertation on platonic love, a dissertation carried out by Bembo,
the most credited theoretician in this matter.
Conclusion
Finally, thanks to this little research and reflection on Baldassare Castiglione, I think he is a great
writer whose works have been very successful at the time and was an example to follow. He taught
through his best known work, the courtier, how to learn to be a good man; Educated, wise and
polite, and considered a great humanist and Renaissance writer not only for his works, but for the

Is Friar Lawrence's Death In Romeo And Juliet
In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet is arranged a marriage by her father. Juliet doesn't love the guy her father
found her, instead she loves Romeo, the son of a rival family. Juliet goes to Friar Laurence for help
and he makes a plan for her to escape with Romeo. He gives her a potion that will help her fake a
death and when she is put in the Capulet tomb, she will wake up and escape with Romeo to Mantua.
First, before Juliet takes the potion she is constantly worried about what bad things could happen.
She then takes the potion and falls on her bed. The nurse is sent later on to wake up Juliet for the
wedding and is found "dead". Everyone is devastated and is very sad. Friar Laurence then tell the

Claudio studied with director of music at the cathedral of Cremona, who was Marcantonio

Choices In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Twelve of Shakespeare's plays are tragedies, including Romeo and Juliet. But could their deaths
have been prevented? Maybe if Friar Laurence had made wiser choices, and more realistic choices.
There isn't a predominant character to blame for this tragedy, however some might argue that Friar
Laurence has the most blood on his hands. Friar Laurence made well–intentioned poor decisions
that led to Romeo and Juliet's death. These decisions include secretly marrying Romeo and Juliet,
giving Juliet the potion to fake her death, and failing to get the important letter delivered to Romeo.
When Friar Laurence agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet in secret, their plan was tainted, thus
leading to the deaths of the young couple. "These violent delights have violent ends / And in their ...

Laurence telling him that he could not deliver the letter to Romeo. Friar Laurence is telling him that
this the letter was not just a nice greeting, it was full of very important information that Romeo
needed to know. He should have told Friar John that the letter was important before he went to

Friar Lawrence's The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet
The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a confusing story. The source of most of the problems was Friar
Lawrence. Friar Lawrence could have fixed the issues that were arising but he chose the more
difficult way to do things. The decisions he made eventually lead Romeo and Juliet to the brink of a
tragedy.
One example of how the Friar is to blame is that he married Romeo and Juliet secretly. This was a
bad idea because without the parents knowing they treated her differently thinking she was
unmarried they tried to marry her to Paris. Also without the Friar letting Juliet's parents know
Tybalt, Juliet's cousin tried to fight Romeo because he thought he was trying to mock the Capulets.
When Romeo wouldn't fight he fought Mercutio who was critically

The Destruction Of Family In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Feuds between families were bloody and enduring throughout history. They start with two
individuals and escalate to a community that loathes each other. Those fights lasted for years to even
many generations. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the star–crossed lovers engaged in
this insane drama. Romeo and Juliet's families continued this constant war with each other. In the
streets of Verona, there was nothing to see but blood being shed by the Capulets and the Montagues.
Sadly enough, Romeo and Juliet were right in the middle of it. Having met each other, they devised
plans with the help of some close people to spend time with each other without telling their families.
Through countless trial and errors of being together, Romeo and Juliet ended up dead. The families

Since Mercutio was known to be the comic relief in the play, it was quite common for him to make

the instigator always looking for someone to fight. His pride led him to kill Romeo's loyal best
friend. In return, Romeo defends his deceased friend by killing Tybalt. In the play, "And for that

land of Mantua. At this point, he had left; Romeo already knew what his actions were to lead him,

How Did Friar Lawrence Influence Romeo And Juliet

wrote the story of two star–crossed lovers. The tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet has been
around for hundreds of years, and yet, people still debate who had the greatest impact on the ending
of the feud between the Montague and Capulet families. Throughout the play you see one person
who handles both families' affairs, and advises both of them, Friar Laurence. Friar Laurence was the
one who helped the Capulet's and Montague's, seemingly one of the only people who was not part of
the feud, had great power over both families, and influenced Romeo and Juliet. Had the Friar not

What the Friar does not know, is that because Romeo did not get the letter, he has seen Juliet, and
taken his life inside the Capulet mausoleum, "Romeo! O, pale! /Who else?? What, Paris too? /and
steeped in blood?" (V.iii.156–157). Instead of explaining things to Juliet, and wonders where her
husband is, he chooses to flee, since she will not leave, "Stay not to question, for the watch is
coming/ Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay." (V.iii.170–171). Juliet, being left alone to deal
with her grief, finds a way to end her life, not wanting to live without Romeo. When their bodies are
found, the Prince listens to the Friar and Balthasar's stories, then Lord and Lady Capulet and
Montague find that their only children are dead. While grieving the loss of their only children,
Montague and Capulet agree to honor the other child with statues, "As rich shall Romeo's by his

Isabella DEste : The Spirit Of The Renaissance
The Renaissance, in Europe, lasted from 1300 until 1600. The word "Renaissance" means
"Reawakening" or "rebirth" which is exactly what occurred in Europe throughout this time period.
The historical figure Isabella d'Este contributed and embodied the spirit of the Renaissance through
her work, life, and legacy. The Renaissance focused on the revival of learning and art. Throughout
this enthusiastic time period in Europe several new styles of art and literature were distinguished
among people. The Renaissance spirit can be described as enthusiastic and experimental especially
through its amazing arts. The historical figure Isabella d'Este leadership and title being the "First
Women Of The Renaissance" contributed to the Renaissance. She played a great role in the
government which was thought to be surprising since men were thought to outpower women during
this time. Although women and men's equality rights are still not fair, Isabella d'Este helped it excell
to a greater level. Born in 1474, Isabella d'Este's family shaped her into who she became later on in
her successful life. Isabellas parents taught her the important lessons of politics and government
starting at a young age and that women can be leaders just like men,"Her parents believed in
schooling their daughters equally to their sons, and she received an education not frequently
afforded women".(Brooklyn Museum,1). The important lessons Isabella was taught impacted her in
a large way later in her life. This time

Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis
Stated by Friar Lawrence, 'Wherefore the infectious pestilence did reign. Seal'd up the doors, and
would not let us forth; So that my speed to Mantua there was stay'd.' (5.3.10–12) In Shakespeare's
tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses the niche of fate to transition the story into the next
scene. As for the events happened in the story, has had happened to Shakespeare in real life. Further,
the plague stopped Friar John from delivering the message to Romeo caused his parent's death, and
advanced this traumatic experience into a heartfelt tragedy. In the story, many events are examples

If Romeo had met another at the balcony, then he would have been punished for trespassing
sometimes, by death. In the quote, "Wherefore the infectious pestilence did reign. Seal'd up the
doors, and would not let us forth; So that my speed to Mantua there was stay'd." (5.3.10–12), these
lines are examples of fate since the moment Romeo could not be informed of the plan since a plague
in Mantua had stopped Friar John from delivering him the letter. This led to Romeo to jump to
conclusions and drinking his death potion Romeo got in this way to Verona. If not for the growing
fear of plague in Mantua, Romeo would have been able to know Juliet is not dead. Fate lies in the
outcomes or protagonists and changes their thought in an instant. As these events occur it paves a
way for the story to go as the author has planned since some things can happen out of the will of the
characters. Second, these events change the outcome of the future. Juliet states, "It is an honor that I

Friar In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
In society, priests are the ones people go to get advice to do the right thing in life. The Friar in
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet gives the wrong advice. Friar Lawrence is the person to blame for
the death of Romeo and Juliet for being selfish and being dim witted. Friar Lawrence should have
never married Romeo and Juliet for the reason he did. He only married them to stop the fighting
between their families. As the Friar was talking to Romeo he told him that "To turn your households'
rancour to pure love." (II.iii.90). Friar thought that marrying Romeo and Juliet the hate between the
families would stop. Even thought that hatred between the families stopped it was only from loss of

Narrative Essay: The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet
If Romeo and Juliet had lived, Narrative paper. I am going to be writing my narrative essay off of
Shakespeare's tragic play, Romeo and Juliet. How the actual play goes is Romeo and Juliet both die.
In my narrative they both live. Romeo stares at Juliet once more before he fully commits to drinking
the vile and repulsive drink that can kill twenty men. A tear streams down his face, he opens the
bottle. Romeo almost gags on the smell, who knew something so small can smell so awful. "Oh
Juliet." Romeo says, wanting his last words to be for her. He looks towards Paris, guilt rushes over
poor Romeo for killing the man. He puts the bottle of poison to his lips. "Romeo?" he hears a

wife. She nods in response for still being drowsy of the drink she had to fake her death. Romeo
helps Juliet up, "Paris?" Juliet speaks up. "I'll explain later my dear." Romeo tells Juliet. Romeo
hears horses and the prince, Balthasar must've told that Romeo killed Paris. Romeo picks Juliet up
in his arms. "Who goes there?" the prince's man asks. Romeo steps to the shadowy place to where
none can see him and Juliet. "Tis I." Friar Laurence says. "Father?" Romeo whispers in confusion. "I
have sinned, I killed Paris." Friar Laurence says. Romeo stays in the dark so they can't see him.
Only Juliet and Romeo are witnessing this. "Get the young fellow named Paris. Father, come with
us." The prince says. Once they hear no more people, or horses young Romeo puts Juliet down.
"Why did you do such things?" Juliet asks. "For you my love." Romeo says and walk to the exit,
Juliet eventually follows. Romeo looks and see they left Friar's horse, he gets on the horse. "Juliet?"
Romeo holds his hand out for her to grab onto. "How could you? You killed Paris, then you let
father take the blame." Juliet says with tears in her eyes. "He was doomed to die, when he let you

Isabella d'Este was a powerful and well–educated cultural and political figure. She contributed to the
Renaissance period by changing the unique role of woman in the Renaissance age, Isabella was
openly , opinionated about politics topics and warfare. When her husband, Francesco 2 Gonzaga left
the city, Isabella governed Mantua on her own. Isabella changed Mantua into a centre of culture and
art and became Chief of State. She was also famous for her fashion sense, which reinvented the style

Many people helped her succeed in her field of politics. Starting from her parents, Eleanor of Naples
and Ercole l d'Este, duke of Ferrara, her parents believed in fair education between man and woman,
so she reserved an education not frequently affordable for woman. This helped shape Isabella and
open her eyes to art and politics. At the age of sixteen she could speak Greek and Latin and had a
variety of musical talents including singing, dancing, and playing the lute. Her father enhanced her
knowledge by giving her great teachings about politics. Isabella was accomplished enough to
understand politics to debate with ambassadors when she was only sixteen. She helped her husband,
Francesco II Gonzaga, rule Mantua, which made her power in politics rise, as she learned valuable
teachings from her husband. Other patrons that supported Isabella were Leonardo d Vinci, who was
a close friend to Isabella and painted many paintings of her. Her sister Beatrice supported and
helped Isabella though her life and after the death of Francesco.
How did Isabella think about the reformation and what major ideas did she contribute in the
Renaissance period? Did she support or go against?
Isabella d'Este believed in the growth of art, architecture, culture and knowledge in the Renaissance
period. She contributed to the growth of art by supporting the greatest artists of that time, such as

First, it is the perspectival depiction technic which Mantegna uses to portray Christ body. The
painting appears with Christ body in the center lying on a marble slab with Virgin Mary and St.John
by his side. From the viewer's angle, one can see the anatomical details in Christ body especially his
thorax. It is because Mantegna uses "foreshortens and dramatizes the recumbent [of Christ] figure"
(). However, Christ's feet are smaller in the size so that they cannot interfere the view of Christ body.
If Mantegna draws Christ's feet in proper size, it may cover much of the body. This painting is one
of the most masterpiece as example for perspective technic. Even thought Mantegna uses
foreshorten to make Christ's body appearing shorten, the physical structure of his body is still
represented accuracy. By using the perspectival depiction technic, Mantegna also expresses his
understanding of human anatomy through Christ's figure. For the first look, we can see Christ's
thorax is described in detail. His bond and muscle of the chest appears natural. Besides, the wound
in his arms and feet are small hole surround by broken flesh. It is understandable in our world today
due to our knowledge of anatomy. The wound looks like that because people takes the nail which
stuck Christ's arms and legs to the cross out. The broken flesh is the trace of the nail being stuck in
his arms and feet. However,

How Did Isabella D Este Influence The Renaissance
Isabella d'Este as the Patron The Italian Renaissance ushered in by humanism, fostered a landscape
in which aristocratic women could achieve further influence than their past counterparts. While the
Italian court women were far from equal to their male equivalents, these women lived in a world
where education was accessible and valued. Humanist courts brought in scholars and artists creating
new environments, where women such as Isabella d'Este were able to become educated and
increasingly active4 in areas dominated by men, such as patronage. During the Italian Renaissance,
there were numerous women patrons, unlike the rare women artist, but few of these patrons are
remembered in present scholarship. Studies of women's shift into more prominent roles, such as the

Mythological subjects ere unusual during the early 1500s when Parnassus was painted. While
humanist studies of ancient Greco–Roman culture had influenced art the subjects depicted has
remained tied to the Christian faith. Portraying humanist themes such as classical influences was a
way of building a reputation as an individual with a taste for classical tradition popular during the
Italian Renaissance. Mantegna's composition for Parnassus forms the gods Apollo, Mars, Venus, and
Mercury into a pyramid formation, achieving a nearly symmetrical appearance. The symmetrical
appearance gives the painting a unified appearance, especially when compared to the Parnassus's
companion painting, Minerva Expelling Vices from the Garden of Virtue (Fig. 2), where the
foreground and middle ground blur into the chaos of figures. The shadows underscoring the dancing
Muses is a characteristic of Mantegna's style. Isabella d'Este chose to depict mythological scenes
because they encouraged didactic interpretations, which she referred to as a 'beautiful

Why would Lord Capulet ever let Juliet spend the rest of her life with the boy who killed her cousin
and a big part of the Capulet family. Lord Capulet said " I'll send to one in Mantua". This means that
since Romeo killed Tybalt that Lord Capulet was going to send an assassin into Mantua to kill
Romeo. This is when juliet and the Friar came up with a plan to give Juillet sleeping medicine and
when romeo got the letter he would come back and they would run away to Mantua Together but
instead Romeo's servant who keeps him updated on what is happening in the town and with Juliet
tells Romeo that Juliet is dead.
The last reason that Romeo and Juliet would not have been happy together would have been that
Romeo is very immature. Romeo was crying because he thought he was going to get killed for
killing Tybalt but they told him he would only be banished from the town. Romeo didn't mean to kill
Tybalt and was crying when he killed him. Romeo. The prince said that each family has lost a loved
one today but it was only fair for that Romeo to be banished from this land. The friar was hiding

stand and you be a man". While Romeo was crying he was thinking that Juliet would forget about
him and not love him anymore and not want to be married anymore because he was banished and
could not see each other.

Isabella DEste And The Renaissance Era
–Isabella d'Este was one of few women to have a substantial impact on the Renaissance Era. The
Renaissance was a time in history where the medieval mindset was destroyed and the modern world
was created. Isabella d'Este was a prominent figure in this time, born in 1474 and having died in
1539. She was raised in a household where it was believed boys and girls should receive the same
education, and thus d'Este was well–educated and very musically talented, being able to dance, sing,
and play various musical instruments. D'Este is known for being a main contributor to the
breakthroughs of the Renaissance, as is shown through her life, her contributions to the era, and her
impacts on Renaissance views. Isabella d'Este had a very eventful life and helped prove that women
can do more than be wives. Her first feat occurred in 1509 when her husband, Francesco Gonzaga,
was captured as a prisoner of war. D'Este took over as the ruling regent, and "secured the loyalty of
her people and was able to successfully control the military, eventually negotiating the release of the
ailing Gonzaga" (Isabella d'Este par 3). Being able to control the military and get her husband
released from a foreign country was a big deal, as women did not typically have control over
government affairs. After controlling the military once, d'Este did it again in 1527, "defending
Mantua against French attacks... and offering aid and comfort to refugees" (Isabella d'Este par 3).
D'Este was favored so much by her

Friar Lawrence Responsible For The Deaths Of Romeo And Juliet
In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the decisions and actions of Romeo's and Juliet's
parents, friends, and family contributed to the death of the teenagers. Romeo and Juliet were lovers
who came from the two feuding families of Verona, the Capulets and the Montagues. After various
people complicated and weakened the marriage, Romeo and Juliet committed suicide. Knowing that
several people are responsible for the couple's death, Prince Escalus stated, "some shall be pardoned,
and some punished (5.3.319)." But who is unequivocally at fault for the tragedy, and who should be
righteously pardoned? Many believe that Friar Lawrence is the chief culprit for this sorrowful
calamity. Although Friar Lawrence made rash and spontaneous decisions, he was not responsible for
the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because his sincere kindness and his honorable intentions fueled his

solution to help her, she would kill herself. Feeling pressured by the threat that Juliet made, Friar
Lawrence created a plan with the resources he had at hand. One might argue that this plan was what
ultimately killed Romeo and Juliet. However, since Juliet's suicide threat coerced Friar Lawrence, he
was forced to rapidly create a plan to calm Juliet. To conclude, Friar Lawrence's love towards Juliet

Isabella d' Este: Great Woman of the Renaissance Essay

Her home in Ferrara was a center of culture and learning, and Isabella benefitted from this at an

Romeo And Juliet Doomed To Fail

  • 1. Romeo And Juliet Doomed To Fail Shakespeare's classic play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a story of two lovers, Romeo Montague, and Juliet Capulet, whose families were feuding for years and years, who meet at a party, and fall in love. They then get married the next day, without either of their parents consent. The day after that, a fight breaks out, and Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, kills Mercutio, Romeo's best friend, which ultimately leads to Romeo killing Tybalt, and Romeo's banishment. Juliet hears of this, and sets up a plan to take a sleeping potion so she appears dead, and to meet Romeo. Romeo does not get the message that Juliet is not really dead, and thinking she is dead, kills himself so he can be with her, then Juliet, seeing her husband dead, kills herself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the prologue, Shakespeare describes the couple of Romeo and Juliet as " a pair of star–crossed lovers..." (prologue, line 6). "Star–crossed lovers", in the dictionary are defined as "lovers whose relationship are doomed to fail", in simpler terms, a couple, destined to end, and a bad end at that. A prime example of that being Romeo and Juliet, lovers brought together, and then torn apart, all by destiny. Also, in Act 5, Friar John, supposed to be delivering a very important message to Romeo, says, in relation to his letter for Romeo, " Sealed up the doors, and would not let us forth, so that my speed to Mantua there was stayed... I could not send it –here it is again– nor get a messenger to bring it thee, so fearful were they of infection." ( act V, scene 2, lines 11–16). At this point in time, Mantua, where Romeo was banished to, was infected, and had been quarantined, not letting people in and out, and because of that, John could not get in. Since John didn't manage to get in to Mantua, Romeo believed that Juliet, his wife, had truly died, which ultimately leads to his death. So, destiny caused Romeo and Juliet's untimely ... • 3. Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet A father figure is "someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional substitute for a father." William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of star– cross'd lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together. When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure which influences several actions in the play. Friar's role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is central to understanding his support for Romeo's love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar's acceptance for Romeo's love for Juliet is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, "Young men's love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes." Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he cares for Romeo and his well–being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand Romeo's situation and give him some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar's support for Romeo's love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. He states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua, Where thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou ... • 5. Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis Told by Friar John, 'Wherefore the infectious pestilence did reign. Seal'd up the doors, and would not let us forth; So that my speed to Mantua there was stay'd.' (5. 3. 10 – 12) In Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare utilizes the niche of fate to transition the story into the next scene. As for the events that happened in the story, have also happen in Shakespeare's in real life. One meaningful demonstration, The Black Plague, that caused his parent's death, was used when it stopped Friar John from delivering the message to Romeo in Mantua. In addition, fated occurrences affect the decision the characters, exploring these events will tell how natural coincidence changes the outcome dramatically. Our ill–fated Romeo can show examples of fate through his story with Juliet. According to (3. 1.37– 39) Romeo says, "Tybalt, the reason I have to love thee Doth many excuses the appertaining rage to such a greeting. Villain am I none", he did not expect Tybalt's sudden entrance, the author had planned out, Tybalt will be the main antagonist in the story. It had not been due to the decision by Romeo for Tybalt to enter, thus shows signs as a fated occurrence. Romeo never thought to fight or talk with Tybalt during the scene. By meeting Tybalt, the author could introduce the main conflict in the tragedy. This scene shows a greater significance since it also leads to the death of Mercutio and Tybalt himself. Next, before Romeo had stumbled to the balcony in the Capulet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Responsibility of Friar Lawrence in Shakespeare's Romeo... "From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, A pair of star– crossed lovers take their life, Whose misadventured piteous overthrows, Doth with their death bury their parents' strife." There are many reasons to the tragedy of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The tragedy, of Romeo and Juliet, involves a pair of ill– fated lovers who by their deaths will end the long and bitter feud that has been raging between their families for centuries. There are many incidents that occurred and many people could be blamed for the deaths of the two lovers. However, I believe that Friar Laurence is the one character most at fault for the tragedy that occurred. One of the mistakes that Friar Laurence made was sending Friar John with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is the one that informed Romeo of Juliet's "death" in the first place and was able to get into the city of Mantua despite the Black Plague. Another mistake that Friar Laurence made was conjuring up a plan that involves Juliet taking a sleeping potion. "Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And this distilling liquor drink thou off..." "...stiff and stark and cold appear, like death, And this borrowed likeness of shrunk death, Thou shalt continue two and forty hours, And then wake as from a pleasant sleep. (Act 4– Scene 1, Pg. 99)" The plan that Friar Laurence was speaking of was Juliet taking a potion that made her seem as though she was dead for forty– two hours. The family, believing her to bed dead, would have her taken to the Capulet burial vault. When she would awaken, Romeo would have already been informed of the plan and be there to take there to Mantua. His convincing Juliet to take the potion is another reason to blame for the death is because he never considered what would happen if the potion did not allow Juliet to return from her "pleasant sleep". Romeo would have thought that Friar Laurence had killed her by giving her poison and then he would be executed for killing Friar Laurence in his rage of anger. The last of the many mistakes that Friar Laurence made, that led to the series of tragic events, was agreeing to perform the marriage ceremony for the two lovers. "Thy love did not ... • 9. The Role Of Fate In Romeo And Juliet Fate is the development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare states in the prologue of the story that Romeo and Juliet are going to die. No matter what happens, no one can change it. In the prologue it specifically states that no individual in Romeo and Juliet can determine their own fate. "The lovers are forced to desperate actions that doom them to death.." ( Prologue, line 12) Fate is shown when Romeo and Benvolio run into the Servant from the Capulet house and Romeo reads the list of guests to the party. If he had not run into the Servant, he would not have gone and met Juliet. Friar Lawrence made this huge plan after marrying them to get them to move away and start a new life but fate decided to take over and no matter what, Romeo would come back and they would both die. Lastly, Shakespeare showed an individual has no ability to determine their own fate when Lord Capulet changed the wedding date from Thursday to Wednesday and it caused a lot of commotion. Romeo and Benvolio were strolling through downtown Verona and they ran into a Servant from the Capulet house. The Servant had been given an order from Lord Capulet to take the list he had given him and go find every person on that list and invite them to his party he was having that night. The problem was that the Servant could not read. He saw Romeo and Benvolio and asked if they could read, not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Mentors In Romeo And Juliet The Nurse and Friar Lawrence are mentors to the young people in "Romeo and Juliet". The Nurse tried her best to help Juliet and was the person who raised her. Friar Lawrence gave advice to Romeo and tries to keep him on track. I think these two mentors made many wrong decisions. Friar Lawrence's biggest mistake was the plan to get Romeo and Juliet back together and leave to Mantua. Thou shalt be borne to that same ancient vault Where all the kindred of the Capulets lie. In the meantime, against thou shalt awake, Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift, And hither shall he come, and he and I Will watch thy waking, and that very night Shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua. I think this is a bad plan because Juliet could just leave to Mantua ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After this we know how the play will end. The Nurse does a better job mentoring Juliet I think. She does what Juliet wants her to if she feels it is a good idea and helps Romeo and Juliet communicate. The Nurse does not fully understand how Juliet feels about Romeo. The Nurse gives good advice about marrying Paris but Juliet doesn't accept it and gets the plan from Friar Lawrence. Romeo's a dishclout to him. An eagle, madam, Hath not so green, so quick, so fair an eye As Paris hath. Beshrew my very heart, I think you are happy in this second match, For it excels your first. Or if it did not, Your first is dead, or 'twere as good he were, As living here and you no use of him None of the characters in this play use common sense. The Nurse and the Friar don't think with common sense and come up with ideas that could work but are not the best answer. The Nurse and Friar Lawrence guided the characters well in some spots. The Nurse was very supportive when Juliet wanted to marry Romeo. Friar Lawrence had the great idea of marrying Romeo and Juliet because it might stop the fighting between the Capulets and the Montagues. The best thing these mentors could have done was try to guide them out of trouble and they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Where Was Monteverdi's Maestro Di Cappella? It is apparent that musicians have been selected to maestro di cappella positions shown from the evidence of Monteverdi's experiences at Mantua. Monteverdi in 1609, was asked to request the availability of a certain Galeazzo Sirena for him to serve as maestro di cappella for Prince Francesco Gonzaga. Although he was worried shown in a letter, he wrote later questioning what would happen after the death of the Duke of Mantua, since the prince would have the power to appoint whoever he chose as his director of music. Through those times, Monteverdi was planning to have his brother installed as the prince's maestro di cappella. Even then, in the end, the fears of Monteverdi became reality. • 15. Free College Essays-The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet Two star–crossed lovers in a city full of hate take their own lives, thinking it is the right thing to do. Many who commit suicide think death is the only way out. Out of their pain, sorrow, and heartbreak, but it is not the only option. For Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet suicide is not the only option. Three alternatives Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet could have chosen instead are the pair sneaking out of Verona after Romeo Montague's banishment, telling friends and family about the secret wedding, or having a secret meeting with Romeo Montague, Juliet Capulet, Friar Laurence, and the Nurse of the Capulets. The first viable option for Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet is to sneak out of Verona after Romeo Montague's banishment. When Romeo comes to say his goodbyes to Juliet during the night, they should take the opportunity to sneak away and go to Mantua. "O, find him! Give this ring to my true knight and bid him come to take his last farewell" says Juliet (3.3.142–143). When Romeo comes to spend the night with Juliet, they need to make the plan for Romeo and Juliet to sneak out which includes using the Nurse of the Capulets. After sneaking out of Verona the ... Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio then go to Friar Laurence's cell to make the arrangements. "The slip, sir, the slip. Can you not conceive" says Mercutio ( 2.4 44). At this point Romeo and Juliet aren't married, but he is planning on marrying her on this day. Then Juliet and Romeo get married and then tell their parents about the wedding. This option will get Romeo and Juliet into a lot of trouble, but this could save not only them, but possibly Tybalt as well. This is still only two out of the many reasonable choices the pair ... • 17. Baltasar Castiglione Humanism, in the broad sense, means valuing the human being and the human condition. In this sense, it is related to generosity, compassion and concern for the valuation of human attributes and relationships. It was a philosophical, intellectual and cultural movement that began in Italy in the fourteenth century with the Renaissance and spread throughout Europe, breaking with the strong influence exerted by the Catholic Church on all orders of life during the Middle Ages. Baldassare Catiglione Baldassar or Baltasar Castiglione; Is considered a high figure of humanism since he was a member of a noble family, who studied in Milan, and where he received a humanistic and courteous education. In it he describes the Renaissance's ideal of life and advocates a model of a gentleman who responds to the anxieties and the worldview he had at that time: the perfect gentleman should be as expert in weapons as in letters, know how to converse and Deal with others (especially with ladies), and play some musical instrument. In the first dialogue there is much talk about the birth and varied education of the gentleman; In the second, of his qualities as a social man and his attitude in the different circumstances; The third draws the ideal of the perfect lady of the palace; The fourth deals with the relations of the courtier with the prince, and closes with a dissertation on platonic love, a dissertation carried out by Bembo, the most credited theoretician in this matter. Conclusion Finally, thanks to this little research and reflection on Baldassare Castiglione, I think he is a great writer whose works have been very successful at the time and was an example to follow. He taught through his best known work, the courtier, how to learn to be a good man; Educated, wise and polite, and considered a great humanist and Renaissance writer not only for his works, but for the life he led during his 51 ... Maybe if Friar Laurence had made wiser choices, and more realistic choices. There isn't a predominant character to blame for this tragedy, however some might argue that Friar Laurence has the most blood on his hands. Friar Laurence made well–intentioned poor decisions that led to Romeo and Juliet's death. These decisions include secretly marrying Romeo and Juliet, giving Juliet the potion to fake her death, and failing to get the important letter delivered to Romeo. When Friar Laurence agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet in secret, their plan was tainted, thus leading to the deaths of the young couple. "These violent delights have violent ends / And in their ... Friar John is talking to Friar Laurence telling him that he could not deliver the letter to Romeo. Friar Lawrence could have fixed the issues that were arising but he chose the more difficult way to do things. The decisions he made eventually lead Romeo and Juliet to the brink of a tragedy. One example of how the Friar is to blame is that he married Romeo and Juliet secretly. This was a bad idea because without the parents knowing they treated her differently thinking she was unmarried they tried to marry her to Paris. Also without the Friar letting Juliet's parents know Tybalt, Juliet's cousin tried to fight Romeo because he thought he was trying to mock the Capulets. • 61. Isabella DEste And The Renaissance Era –Isabella d'Este was one of few women to have a substantial impact on the Renaissance Era. The Renaissance was a time in history where the medieval mindset was destroyed and the modern world was created. Isabella d'Este was a prominent figure in this time, born in 1474 and having died in 1539. She was raised in a household where it was believed boys and girls should receive the same education, and thus d'Este was well–educated and very musically talented, being able to dance, sing, and play various musical instruments. D'Este is known for being a main contributor to the breakthroughs of the Renaissance, as is shown through her life, her contributions to the era, and her impacts on Renaissance views. Isabella d'Este had a very eventful life and helped prove that women can do more than be wives. Her first feat occurred in 1509 when her husband, Francesco Gonzaga, was captured as a prisoner of war. D'Este took over as the ruling regent, and "secured the loyalty of her people and was able to successfully control the military, eventually negotiating the release of the ailing Gonzaga" (Isabella d'Este par 3). Being able to control the military and get her husband released from a foreign country was a big deal, as women did not typically have control over government affairs. After controlling the military once, d'Este did it again in 1527, "defending Mantua against French attacks... and offering aid and comfort to refugees" (Isabella d'Este par 3).
