Romance Embodied through Figurative Language in Taylor Swift's "Red" The song "Red" was
written and recorded by famed singer/songwriter Taylor Swift for her album of the same name. It is
a song that is full of figurative speech; the songstress makes use of similes, metaphors, and imagery.
These three techniques work together to convey the many emotions the singer feels when she looks
back at the end of relationship. "Red" is a song that is about remembering a relationship and
thinking about the emotions–good or bad–that it brought on. The first two lines of the song, "Loving
him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street /Faster than the wind, passionate as sin,
ending so suddenly," provide an example of how Swift uses similes in this song. The artist is writing
about how passionate, wild and reckless this progressing relationship was, even though it eventually
came to an abrupt halt. Swift again makes use of the simile when she writes, "Loving him is like
trying to change your mind once you're already flying through the free fall." This line can be
interpreted to mean that Swift began to have second thoughts about the relationship, but she was
already in love, so it was too late to back down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the lines "Losing him was blue like I'd never known / Missing him was dark grey all alone," the
use of the color blue shows that the artist felt incredibly sad when the relationship initially ended,
and the color grey is here used to describe the immense depression she felt when the relationship
was over. The writer also describes how wonderful her love was for the other person by using the
color red. An example of this is the following

Analysis of When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats Essay
Analysis of When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats
When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats, represents and elderly woman reminiscing of her
younger days. A past lover whispers to her as she looks through a photo album. Basically, Yeats is
showing that as the woman gets older, she is alone, but she does not have to be lonely. She will
always have her memories for companionship.
'When you are old and grey and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire' (l.1–2) depicts the woman in
her age, needing to nap more frequently. He speaks of a book (l.2) and the 'soft look' of her eyes
(l.3–4). This book signifies a photo album that contains pictures of her as young adult.
Yeats speaks of her 'glad grace' (l.5) as her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
?And love the sorrows of your changing face? (l.8) means simply that even as her face aged, the
love he felt for her grew stronger.
?And bending down beside the glowing bars,? (l.9) could be translated to ?as you?re bending down
to stoke the fire,? she?ll mumble to herself about his death, ?how Love fled? (l.10) and his soul
climbing to heaven to live ?amid a crowd of stars? (l.12).
In the last verse of When you are Old, William Butler Yeats uses personification of love to enhance
the image of the late lover waiting for the elderly woman. Lines 10–12 ?Murmur, a little sadly, how
Love fled, and paced upon the mountains overhead and hid his face amid a crowd of stars? give
personal qualities to love. By capitalizing love, it becomes its own being, which waits impatiently,
hence pacing the mountain. Yeats gives love a face hidden in the stars. The ?face? is love?s
distinguishing characteristics, such as tenderness and sensitivity.
The conclusion of When You are Old leaves the woman smiling to herself over the memories she
has. She knows that one day she will be reunited with her true love, so she can live the remainder of
her life peacefully.
I personally love this poem. It leaves me with a feeling of contentment, just thinking that someone
with a little age, and all alone can look back upon her life and keep smiling until it is her time to be
united with her soul–mate. Usually when we consider the elderly, it is in a

Grateful Dead Essay
Throughout history there have been many musical "influences". One extremely
important influence to modern music is The Grateful Dead.
The group was formed in 1965 by bluegrass – enthusiast Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Ron
"Pigpen" McKernan on vocals and organ, Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, classical
music student Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, and Bill Kreutzmann on drums. From the beginning,
they brought together a variety of influences, from Garcia's country background to Pigpen's feeling
for blues (his father was an R&B radio DJ) and Lesh's education in contemporary
serious" music. Add to that, the experimentation encouraged at some of the group's first
performances at novelist Ken Kesey's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grisman is a still a renowned mandolinist, but while with Garcia, they both explored the bluegrass
scene. This was Jerry's "foundation" for his musical contributions to the Grateful Dead.
Without Jerry's influence, the Grateful Dead would not have it's distinct earthy timbre or feel that
has been extremely significant in attracting their particular following.
Another contribution to the Dead's style was bassist Phil Lesh. With only formal jazz training on the
trumpet, Lesh picked up a bass and learned as he went while playing with the Grateful Dead's then
nucleus, The Warlocks. Lesh is famous for his jazz improvisational style. This particular style
usually finds his fingers running up and down the neck of a five or six string bass (seen right),
dropping what are affectionately known to fans as "Phil Bombs", furiously low
frequency notes that tend to rumble in auditoriums and can only be created with a five or six string
bass. As one can well imagine, these two aforementioned styles together could create somewhat of
an interesting style. Well, it only gets better.
Bill Kreutzmann, the "heartbeat" of the Grateful Dead, had been behind a kit since the
age of eleven when Jerry Garcia met him in 1962. His early love of drums allowed him to be heavily
involved in the "rock and roll" scene. As a teen, Kreutzmann even created rock in roll
bands in which to play, as the interest was barely there. After meeting

The Grey Album Essay
A Case Study of The Grey Album by DJ Danger Mouse: Does Copyright Law Inhibit Creativity in
Music? The Grey Album Brian Burton aka DJ Danger Mouse published The Grey Album, his
acclaimed mashup in 2004. The Grey Album combined raps from Jay–Z's The Black Album with
instrumentals from The Beatles self titled album (commonly referred to as the White Album).
Burton's 200 hours of work paid off and although only 3,000 copies of the record were originally
pressed, the album was released to the web and downloaded over 100,000 times, unofficially
becoming one of the most popular albums at the time of its release. Sampling and Hip–Hop Culture

In 2007 the city of New York recognized that 1520 Sedgwick Avenue was eligible for status in the
state and national registry of historic sites as the birthplace of hip–hop. However, the story is much
more complicated than that; although Clive Campbell aka DJ Kool Herc made a name for himself, it
would not be until 1974 when Campbell extended the break of a song, "and when I extended the
break, people were ecstatic, because that was the best part of the record to dance to, and they were
trippin' off it." The technique of isolating the instrumental tracks was popular in Jamaican dub
music, however Campbell was the first to use two identical records to extend the break. This "beat
break" separated Campbell from other DJ's and set – what would later be called – hip–hop apart
from dub. DJ Afrika Bambaataa describes the beat break as, "that certain part of the record that
everybody waits for – they just let their inner self go and get wild," In addition to the beat break,
Campbell also helped introduce toasting – an early precursor to rapping in which an MC speaks over
music – to the genre; toasting was used by Campbell's friend Coke La Roc at the Sedgwick
houseparty to the enamoration of the

Character Analysis Of Goodbye Despair
Finally, in regard to creating balance within the narrative, it is important to discuss how Goodbye
Despair's two sub–protagonists are also the game's two potential love interests for the player's
character. The idea of contradiction–based balance between the two characters is present here as
well. Chiaki is initially presented as the standard heroine–based loved interest for Hajime to pursue.
Not only is she nice to Hajime, inviting him to hang out and work together, but also she is physically
attractive, being presented with a cute face and curvy figure under her school uniform. Hajime also
expresses attraction to Chiaki when she, along with the other girls, puts on a swimsuit to go down to
the beach. However, Chiaki herself removes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, as Chiaki moves out of the traditional heroine, love interest role within the narrative,
Nagito begins to fill it. Mostly due to the popularity of Nagito's character, the developers have
placed many of the traditional female "fan service" gags on to him. In addition to having Nagito
appear on many of the promotional material in his normal island outfit, Danganronpa also had him
appear in other traditionally female outfits, such as a kimono and a servant outfit. Furthermore, he
receives these gags inside the story as well; for example the character gets an over exaggerated
shower scene in Danganronpa: The End of Hope's Peak Academy – Despair Side. Nagito also has
received his own mini–album, several song–based vocal tracks preformed by the character's voice
actor. These mini–albums are traditionally given to female characters, due to the fact that many
female anime characters are presented with the ability to sing well because it makes them more
attractive. The songs included on the album include two love songs, one directed to an ambiguous
male individual and the second directed to Hajime specifically. Moreover, the way that Nagito talks
about Hajime imparts a more romantic aspect to the two boys' relationship than the relationship
between Hajime and Chiaki. In Nagito's fifth free time event, when trying to confess his feelings to
Hajime, Nagito uses the verb "aishiteru" to mean love. However, "aishiteru" is an extreme form of

Drown Dreams
Other Animals is a quartet led by German brothers Peter and Bernhard Meyer, guitarist and bassist,
respectively, who take all the credit for the twelve compositions of the band's debut album. They are
joined by the Berlin–based saxophonist Wanja Slavin and the American drummer Jim Black, a
pivotal figure in the New York jazz scene. The animated beat that introduces "Drown Dreams", an
oblique, dreamy, chamber pop song, doesn't dissemble some solemnity attached to its melody and
harmonic conduction. There are a few grey clouds encircling it, but also some sunrays that make the
liberation possible. Exclusively on this tune, Slavin plays synth and flutes. The sluggish drum chops
of "Name of Cold Country", sparse yet well coordinated with the bass lines, go along with the
melodious saxophone and soaring electronic effects. The lightness of this architecture of sound
gains further depth with Peter's beautiful harmonics and warmly distorted chords. Yes, it may feel
ponderous and wintry, but comes stuffed with emotion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chat-Shire: Song Analysis
South Korea will often be described as a high–tech and peaceful nation. Especially when compared
to the neighboring dictatorship of the North. Beyond the colorful lights of Seoul the country is filled
with civil unrest. Young adults and teens are faced with an oppressive modern society watching and
waiting for them to make a mistake. IU's album Chat–Shire depicts the social issues of being a
woman in South Korea.
Chat–Shire is EP that contains six tracks. It was released on October 15th, 2016. The album follows
the theme of storybook characters. IU makes reference to popular stories such as; Alice in
Wonderland, as her main motif, followed by The Wizard of Oz and My Sweet Orange Tree. The
lyrics of the songs detail different issues that the singer/song writer has dealt with in her life. The
messages are not straight forward, her ideas and thoughts are expressed through metaphors that the
listener has to fine. Alice in Wonderland had a strong influence of the album which leaving listeners
confused and baffled by the contradictions IU makes.
The first track is titled Shoes. The tempo for the song is rather slow and fits into the pop genre well.
The beat is computerized like with most pop music. This song is more of an open letter. She greets

contradiction she makes in the song. She does not whether she should speak out as a powerful figure

plain grey and purple walls. IU is now surrounded by colorful walls and doors that lead to a large
version of herself singing. Bright colors burst across the screen before the camera is guided to an
open door. The door is IU standing before an iconic sign from Alice in Wonderland. It has several

album was then turned into a movie whose screenplay was written by Rodger Waters, a member of
the band. The film adaptation of the album is based on events that occurred during Rodger Waters

As the camera dollies in to the end of the hallway where a maid is cleaning rooms, the viewer can

image cuts out, the opening credits are shown, then followed by a man lighting a lantern. The

Abel Tesfaye Essay
Abel Tesfaye, other known as The Weeknd, is a newly arising artist. The 25 year old singer became
a roaring sensation after his release of a trio of highly–acclaimed mixtapes. Those being House of
Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence. During the time these were released, Tesfaye was
completely mysterious, nobody knowing his real identity. This worked immaculately well with the
themes of his music, dark, sulky songs about meaningless sex and drug use. It was a more revealing,
less–glamorous side of R&B compared to the mainstream of the genre, this making the Weeknd the
next big thing. He eventually revealed his identity and was consistently making it to the top ten of

Now that he has gained attention, he's making music that would have been very unexpected years
ago. It all started in 2012, with the debut of Trilogy, a remastered collection of his original 2011
mixtapes. A year after, he released his official debut album, Kiss Land, which was similar to his
earlier work. However, many fans felt the more polished version took away from what initially
made them latch onto Tesfaye's work on songs like "Wicked Games." But to grow you must move
forward. Tesfaye made a 180 and changed roles into a pop star when he released "Earned It" in
2014, lead single from the soundtrack to Fifty Shades Of Grey. This song has a much different vibe
then many of The Weeknd's other songs, this being more symphonic and magnificent. It was
apparent that he was moving out of his traditional and adapted sound of alternative–R&B to reach a
bigger, more general audience. "Can't Feel My Face" was more out of unlike him. This song having
a funky, pop sound to it, produced by super–producer Max Martin sounds more like Michael
Jackson than anything on past mixtapes. Tesfaye sounded happy on that track, an emotion that he
rarely, if ever, showed before. He even announced a collaboration with pop singer Ed Sheeran, who

I Am Reviewing Eminem 's Latest Album Marshall Mathers Lp2
I am reviewing Eminem's latest album Marshall Mathers LP2. This album is a revisitation of
Marshall Mathers LP. It is rumored to be his final public work and fortunately for his fans provides
closure for some of the themes from MMLP. The song "Bad Guy" in MMLP2 is told from the
perspective of a crazed fan's little brother Michael and it provides closure for the song "Stan" from
MMLP. The second track "Parking Lot" is a continuation from "Criminal" in MMLP. Between the
second and third verses of "Criminal" lays a skit about Em robbing a bank and then "Parking Lot" is
a short skit that brings the scene to a close as he runs off with sirens blaring in the background.
"Rhyme or reason" is delivered with his usual hatred as he lets out his demons and raps about,
among other things, his father or more accurately his lack of a father. He raps that his "mother
reproduced like a komodo dragon" to illustrate his lack of a father even as early as birth also that his
mother served as both a mother and a father. Komodo dragons have the ability to reproduce
asexually. When they do so the result is always a male. Track Four: "So much better" has a beat
similar to "Criminal" from MMLP. It almost has the same effect as if it were the instrumental part of
"Criminal" at a slower pace. Em encapsulates his emotions towards his romantic relationships as
well as hip hop in this song. "Survival" featuring Liz Rodrigues of the band New Royales was

the black and white with the blues and greys and also the red, yellow content. When describing the
objective color within the painting, these colors can also project a mood on the observer. The dark
colors such as the women in the red dress with a black background portray darkness also the women

Tom: Yes and no. I know I certainly have an interest in video game themes as I grew up in the 8–bit

the themes we've done are based off of movies and TV. At the moment it feels like we focus on
videogames because we just released the 8–bit themes album. That particular album was a perk that
we offered our supporters during a crowdfund campaign that we wrapped up in January. But going

Anime scores like Akira, classical pieces like Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet by
Sergey Prokofiev, popular songs like Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and video games like Street

offered during our indiegogo campaign. Tom is a huge fan of video games. I belong more to the

Musically, Hotel California can be said to be the Eagles greatest accomplishment in their career. It
can also be thought of as the album that gave a complete concept of the Eagles. Each member of the
band is contributing to the music and is playing a mixture of instruments. With this range usage of
the members, the album has a complete cohesive feel. During this time of the Eagles career, they
had five members; Don Henley, Don Felder, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Randy Meisner. Like
mentioned previously all members sang in this album, all members wrote and all members played
which allowed for the album to be a complete concept of the band.

According to the band, 'Hotel California' is a song about materialism in American. It is an
understanding of the temptation and greed that fills the streets, especially in the lifestyle of people
living in California. Don Henley, once said, "It's basically a song about the dark underbelly of the
American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about" Ultimate

Nevertheless of the true meaning, the popular culture of the time the song was released believed that
it was satanic and devil–driven. A radical Christian church commented that the song referenced the

Morrie Aging
Aging can be more than wrinkles, fine lines and grey hairs. In this photo, this woman appears to not
feel confident with her age and her appearance. Makeup artists or doctors are on either side of her
face, holding up cosmetics as if they were to fix up any of the "issues" that came with aging. "How
can I be envious of where you are, when I've been there myself," (Album 121) expressed Morrie to
Mitch. Morrie explained to Mitch how he'd already been all of these ages and how deep down each
of those parts of his life are still him in one way or another. He finds that people don't appreciate
how the aging process is not only decaying. It is the act of growth in oneself, and people need to

For instance, opinions, major decisions, occupations based on income are all aspects that should be
decided for ourselves and by ourselves. Having all the figures similar and one off figure was
specifically chosen as the one off figure can consider your personal subculture. "...the biggest defect
we human beings have is our shortsightedness. We don't see what we could be," (Albom 156) This
particular quote refers to how people should be stretching their potential and how humans do not
believe we are as alike as we are. Instead of separating ourselves into groups, we should all view
ourselves as one and care about one another. As this is a majorly vital lesson, it can teach people to
follow their own substantial ideas similar to the aforementioned points. Culture is something I

10 Week Songs
For most people, the work–week starts on Monday, and we struggle just to get out of bed. Whether
you work at home, in an office, or someplace else, sometimes you need some good music to help
you get through the week. Here are my picks for the top ten songs about days of the week, with a
separate weekend–songs posting coming up (Songs that almost made the cut were "Monday
Morning" by Pulp, "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Wednesday" by Tori Amos, "Friday" by
Ice Cube, "Monday Monday Monday" by Tegan and Sara, "Ruby Tuesday" by The Rolling Stones,
"Monday Morning" by Fleetwood Mac and "Wednesday's Song" by John Frusciante.)
Number Ten: "Everyday of the Week" by Jade
"Everyday of the Week" is a song by R&B group Jade, off of their 1994 release, Mind, Body &

This track is off of the band's 1992 album, Wish. Lyrics include, "I don't care if Monday's blue /
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too / Thursday I don't care about you / it's Friday I'm in love."
Perhaps the best part of the song is towards the end when the lyrics speed up: "Dressed up to the
eyes / it's a wonderful surprise / to see your shoes and your spirits rise / throwing out your frown /
and just smiling at the sound / as sleek as a shriek / spinning round and round / always take a big
bite / it's such a gorgeous sight / to see you eat in the middle of the night / you can never get enough
/ enough of this stuff / it's Friday, I'm in love." I think most people can relate to how we are
connected to certain people, but it's only when the weekend rolls around that we want to see them. If
you can't relate, than surely you can identify with Friday being a "happy" day, as it signals the end

Music As Intellectual Property Summary
Music as intellectual property
The readings explore the concept of music as intellectual property and delve into the many issues
that consequently arise in the practice of "musical borrowing or quoting, digital sampling and the
Digital rights management control over "netizens".
Mc Leod introduces the issue of musical sampling as a copyright infringement with the example of
Danger mouse and his tribute to The Beatles and Jay–Z in his Grey Album. As fans were warned to
"cease and desist" the author discusses cyber civil disobedience by providing a brief intro to
musique concrete as a pioneer of later cutting edge music as Danger mouse.
Mc leod describes Danger mouse use of preexisting music as sampled reinterpretation.

By providing several musical examples ranging from Sinead O Connor to Lansky, he presents the
argument of digital samples as an art form where unlike musical quotations, a performance is what
is being "borrowed" resulting in a metamorphosis of the sample as it is presented in a new theme.
"Yet isn't there something fundamentally different between such traditional acts of borrowing and
digital sampling? It is sometimes said that while a quotation is simply a representation of another
piece, a sampled passage of music is that music. But that depends on what the meaning of "is" is".
In the above statement, Katz brings us back the quintessential debate on what constitutes music, the
score, the sounds, recording, etc. By presenting musical example of centuries of musical quotations
such as L'homme arme mass or Dies Irae, he underlines the differences between a musical quotation
and sampling
By breaking down Notjustmoreidlechatter by Lansky he challenges our perception on where
interpretation lies in a composition. Lansky's piece, he argues, makes the listener an active
interpreter since lanky has cut out the performer.

"Tension and Release" was the first music released by the band in an extended play (EP) which is

"Free" is one of the best songs on the album, it has a very different style from the previous songs
being more Folk Rock if that's a genre? It has a slow introduction slowly adding instruments until
halfway it becomes more of a rock song. As the song title suggests the song is about freedom but it
is more about gaining that the freedom by sacrificing the past giving the song more of a sullen feel.
On the cd case I was given it has suggested tracks and the fourth song "Shatter" is recommended
and it is the highest rated song of the album on iTunes so it must be good. This song is from what I
can tell fallows the same pattern of "barricades meaning it switches from rock to metal, but this time
it maintains what I would call a metal instrumental throughout the song, and near the end it has a
weird guitar rift which turned me off of this song. Skipping ahead in the album brings us to "legion"
which starts off with mournful bells transitioning into a slower rock song with metal

What's to be said about metal that hasn't been said yet? The genre has crawled out from the darkness
and the popularity of it has sparked numerous respectable bands and plenty of forgettable ones.
Nevertheless, there are always those few bands rooted so deep into the genre that the appearance

Yellow Paint Halsy Meaning
Everyone Has a Yellow Paint
A common myth that is told about Vincent Van Gogh is that he ate yellow paint to make himself
happier. He was said to want to paint his insides with yellow paint so it could make his organs bright
and overall make him happy. Many thought that this was very dumb and that the paint would kill
him. Paint is poisonous and could kill you, but it is not far off from what drugs do to the human
body. Drugs affect people's mood but the overall effect to the body is horendous. Drugs damage
organs in the body and can causes people to slowly die. Vincent Van Gogh used colors to literally
make him feel a certain way, similarly to how the artist Halsey uses colors metaphorically in her

that the love she has with this man is really great and electric. This part in the music, "Makes you
want to smile and sing along" (Bergeron). Later on in the song, Halsey starts to describe the man.
She says, "You're only happy when your sorry head is filled with dope" (Halsey). During this time,
the music gets softer and the tempo slows down. From the lack of loudness, the music seems to
become dull and become sad. Then towards the end of the song she says, "You were red/ You liked
me cause I was blue/ You touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky and you decided purple just
wasn't for you" (Halsey). During this time in the song the music practically stops and the tempo
slows down a ton. One can clearly hear her at this part and "All you can do is listen and feel"
(Bergeron). This is relatable to people since she is talking about common

However, unlike Jimmy, Ruby is the first out of the five children in Stolen to be chosen by a white
family, where her life becomes a constant cycle of sexual and oppressive abuse, manipulated into
staying quiet with gifts. Throughout this, Ruby continually calls out for her mother, as she longs for
the family and love that she lost at a young age. Progressing through the story, Ruby becomes an
unpaid domestic, vulnerable to constant abuse and suffering, whether mental, physical or sexual, and
gradually loses hope and her mind, as she develops a dreadful mental illness that consumes her. At
the plays revolution, she does not recognise her own family and is noticeably broken, as everything
she once had was taken from her, including her sanity.
Ruby conveys that her personality is rather passive, as she is more fragile over the course of the
play. She does not often interact with the other children and stays quiet, due to her abuse and
manipulation keeping her from developing a true personality at such a young age. This periodically
becomes a clear result from these things, as she has forgotten what it feels like to be loved and cared
for from when she lost her mother.
Physicality:
Ruby's movement is frantic and twitchy, with impulsive turns and looks, always fearful and anxious.
When sitting or standing, she will curl up and hold herself or her doll as self–protection mechanism.
She is introverted, reflecting how broken she is, even talking to herself instead of others once she
has lost everything.

Similarities Between Modern And Modern Music
Essay From the beginning of time humans have created music with their voices and have used
technology to create instruments and different sounds to create music. Everything comes from
something, all music is inspired by something. This is seen through the similarities between modern
and ancient music. The musicians Lido and Giovanni Gabrieli share many musical elements. Peder

producer, singer, and songwriter. He was born at Tysvær, Norway on October 26, 1992. But moved
to Los Angeles, CA, USA to further his career. He is skilled at playing many instruments: his vocals,
piano, the drums, and programming. He makes music in the genres of electronica, wonky, trip hop,
hip–hop, and jersey club. He's been active from 2005 to present day. Losnegård grew up writing
songs and playing the piano, and he liked to listen to hip hop music, and later developed his own
melodic style, mixing genres of music. In 2005 he participated in Melodi Grand Prix Junior as Lil'P.
He later changed his stage nameLidoLido. A few years after that he released five free mixtapes

Mop Top Influence
One way the Beatles changed the world of music is their hair, it was called the Mop–top but they
called it "Arthur". The mop–top is "It is a straight cut – collar–length at the back and over the ears at
the sides, with a straight fringe (bangs)". At first people thought it was dumb but eventually realized
it was awesome but it was still mocked by adults. The mop–top was first created in the 1950's when
someone named Jürgen Vollemer left his hair down after he went swimming, and he didn't want to
comb it. Jürgen liked this style on him so the next day he recreated it and the mop–top was born (at
this time it wasn't called anything). Voller moved to Paris in 1961 and Paul McCartney and John
Lennon both ran into him and liked it, so they asked him if he could cut their hair like that. Soon

The Capitalist Economy Through A Critical Lens
Throughout our Communication Studies, we have examined the capitalist economy through a
critical lens and as a result, corporations always appear at the forefront of debate, blame, and power.
From a neo–liberalist economic standpoint, the typical "prosumer" is encouraged to create
consumer–generated content, but what happens when you put your creative labour to the test? York
University consistently advocates, "this is your time"; in other words, students are responsible for
their own success and are held liable for any failures or mishaps they may endure. While
contemporary technologies have multiplied and democratized opportunities for musical creativity,
intellectual property law has been used to repress our right to free speech, which is guaranteed under
the first amendment (Demers 2006). Therefore, the industry's effort at convincing people that file–
sharing is equivalent to thievery have turned an increasing number of artists into intellectual
property activists.
Kembrew McLeod, independent filmmaker and Associate Professor of Communication Studies at
the University of Iowa, advocates for the revision of intellectual property law in regards to digital

The Dave Matthews Band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in early 1991, when Matthews
decided to put some songs he had written on tape. Instead of simply recording himself with a guitar,
he instead decided to bring in some instrumental help to give his musical ideas more depth. His first
move was finding the right people to play the parts in his band that he decided fit. He began his
search and formed the racially integrated band that is now known worldwide and are continuously
ranked in the top five for the largest grossing concert tours of the year. The key roles were soon

CONCLUSION
My Life is a Web site that will be updated a few times a year, especially following important family
events such as new babies, marriages, and other events that I participate in. This means that there
will be more photographs and text that will be added over time. It is my hope that anyone of any age
will be able to access and navigate easily throughout my Web site as it grows.
James J. Cappel and Zhenyu Huang wrote, "web usability" is a broad concept that encompasses
many aspects of design including a Web site's presentation, its navigation features, and its
functionality or usefulness to visitors" (Cappel & Huang, 2007). I have kept these attributes in
mind as a created My Life: Capturing the Moments, Creating the Memories Web site.

Jay-Z Essay
Originally from Marcy Houses housing project in the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood of
Brooklyn in New York City,[9] Jay–Z was abandoned by his father Adnes Reeves and shot his
brother in the shoulder for stealing his jewelry[10] when he was twelve years old.[11] Jay–Z
attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn, along with rapper AZ, until it was closed down.
After that he attended George Westinghouse Information Technology High School in Downtown
Brooklyn, with fellow rappers The Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes, and Trenton Central High
School in Trenton, New Jersey, but did not graduate.[12] He claims to have been caught up in
selling drugs, to which he refers in his music.[11]
According to his mother Gloria Carter, a young Jay–Z ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like its predecessor, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 also earned Platinum status in the United States.
Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life (1998)
Main article: Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life
1998's Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life spawned the biggest hit of his career at the time, "Hard Knock Life
(Ghetto Anthem)". He also relied more on flow and brilliant wordplay, and he continued his
penchant for mining beats from the popular producers of the day such as Swizz Beatz, an upstart in–
house producer for Ruff Ryders, and Timbaland. Other producers tapped for beats include: DJ
Premier, Erick Sermon, The 45 King, and Kid Capri. Charting hits from this album included "Can I
Get A...", featuring Ja Rule and Amil, and "Nigga What, Nigga Who", which featured Amil too. Vol.
2 would eventually become Jay–Z's most commercially successful album; it was certified 5x
platinum in the United States and has to date sold over 8 million worldwide. The album went on to
win a Grammy Award, although Jay–Z boycotted the ceremony protesting DMX's failure to garner a
Grammy nomination.
Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter (1999)
Main article: Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter
In 1999, Jay–Z released Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter. Despite continued criticism for his
increasingly pop–oriented sound,[14] the album proved to be successful and went platinum three
times and sold over 5.6 million records worldwide. Through his lyricism, he was able to retain

Mika's Album Covers
Mika's Life in Cartoon Motion Michael Holbrook Penniman, also known as Mika, is a pop male
singer artist and a songwriter. He began his debut as a singer with his album entitled, Life in Cartoon
Motion in 2007. I chose this album cover because it's eye–catching with its colorful image. It's
important to review and analyze the visual design of this album cover by focusing on different
points of it. Such as the genre of the music, the image and color on the album cover, the
representation of it, and the target audience of the album. In his debut album, Life in Cartoon
Motion, Mika set all of his song to be a pop genre. Just like a common pop artist's album cover, no
guns or parental advisory sticker, his album is filled with excessive ... Show more content on

This can be interpreted by the cover, which has a man sitting on a couch, a woman who looks like
she's having a party, and a little girl who is sitting and holding her doll. People will buy this album
because they not only want to know what kind of music is behind this wonderful and colorful cover,
but also because the colorful album really catches a viewer's eye making them want to buy the
album for a brighter day. In conclusion, Mika's album cover is very inviting and striking because his
album cover is colorful and lively. Not only children that will be interested, but also teenagers and
parents as well. With his name in modern, big, and bold styled writing, people will know whose

Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
"The pent waters spread out into a long oval lake, pale Nen Hithoel, fenced by steep grey hills.... At
the far southern end rose three peaks. The midmost stood somewhat forward from the others and
sundered from them, an island in the waters, about which the flowing River flung pale shimmering
arms. Distant but deep there came upon the wind a roaring sound like the roll of thunder heard far
away... I hear the endless voice of Rauros calling."
Effectively, J.R.R. Tolkien's description of the scenery that surrounds enormous, cascading Falls of
Rauros from Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring could serve as a metaphoric review for
any album that the black metal band Falls of Rauros release. Since 2005, the band have been

Aaron' Charles catches you off–guard as traumatic shrieks erupt from acoustic passages in
"Labyrinth Unfolding Echoes" which in turn signals a drone–like interlude of isolated drums and
cavernous bass. "Impermanence Streaked Through Marble" also displays this progressive nature.
Due to the mellifluous riffs and increasingly tortured vocals and subtle choir–like synth, the sylvan
atmosphere is more tangible on this song than its predecessors. It's in these last final moments that
"Vigilance Perennial" wraps its cold embrace around your spirit and lifts you into the skies. If the
entire album resembled the last 3 minutes, there'd be no denying its

Romance Embodied Through Figurative Language In Taylor...

  • 1. Romance Embodied Through Figurative Language In Taylor... Tochia Hendrix Jordan 6 February 2016 Romance Embodied through Figurative Language in Taylor Swift's "Red" The song "Red" was written and recorded by famed singer/songwriter Taylor Swift for her album of the same name. It is a song that is full of figurative speech; the songstress makes use of similes, metaphors, and imagery. These three techniques work together to convey the many emotions the singer feels when she looks back at the end of relationship. "Red" is a song that is about remembering a relationship and thinking about the emotions–good or bad–that it brought on. The first two lines of the song, "Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street /Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly," provide an example of how Swift uses similes in this song. The artist is writing about how passionate, wild and reckless this progressing relationship was, even though it eventually came to an abrupt halt. Swift again makes use of the simile when she writes, "Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you're already flying through the free fall." This line can be interpreted to mean that Swift began to have second thoughts about the relationship, but she was already in love, so it was too late to back down. ... In the lines "Losing him was blue like I'd never known / Missing him was dark grey all alone," the use of the color blue shows that the artist felt incredibly sad when the relationship initially ended, and the color grey is here used to describe the immense depression she felt when the relationship was over. The writer also describes how wonderful her love was for the other person by using the color red. An example of this is the following ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Analysis of When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats Essay Analysis of When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats, represents and elderly woman reminiscing of her younger days. A past lover whispers to her as she looks through a photo album. Basically, Yeats is showing that as the woman gets older, she is alone, but she does not have to be lonely. She will always have her memories for companionship. 'When you are old and grey and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire' (l.1–2) depicts the woman in her age, needing to nap more frequently. He speaks of a book (l.2) and the 'soft look' of her eyes (l.3–4). This book signifies a photo album that contains pictures of her as young adult. Yeats speaks of her 'glad grace' (l.5) as her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ?And love the sorrows of your changing face? (l.8) means simply that even as her face aged, the love he felt for her grew stronger. ?And bending down beside the glowing bars,? (l.9) could be translated to ?as you?re bending down to stoke the fire,? she?ll mumble to herself about his death, ?how Love fled? (l.10) and his soul climbing to heaven to live ?amid a crowd of stars? (l.12). In the last verse of When you are Old, William Butler Yeats uses personification of love to enhance the image of the late lover waiting for the elderly woman. Lines 10–12 ?Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled, and paced upon the mountains overhead and hid his face amid a crowd of stars? give personal qualities to love. By capitalizing love, it becomes its own being, which waits impatiently, hence pacing the mountain. Yeats gives love a face hidden in the stars. The ?face? is love?s distinguishing characteristics, such as tenderness and sensitivity. The conclusion of When You are Old leaves the woman smiling to herself over the memories she has. She knows that one day she will be reunited with her true love, so she can live the remainder of her life peacefully. I personally love this poem. It leaves me with a feeling of contentment, just thinking that someone with a little age, and all alone can look back upon her life and keep smiling until it is her time to be united with her soul–mate. Usually when we consider the elderly, it is in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Grateful Dead Essay Throughout history there have been many musical "influences". One extremely important influence to modern music is The Grateful Dead. The group was formed in 1965 by bluegrass – enthusiast Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan on vocals and organ, Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, classical music student Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, and Bill Kreutzmann on drums. From the beginning, they brought together a variety of influences, from Garcia's country background to Pigpen's feeling for blues (his father was an R&B radio DJ) and Lesh's education in contemporary serious" music. Add to that, the experimentation encouraged at some of the group's first performances at novelist Ken Kesey's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grisman is a still a renowned mandolinist, but while with Garcia, they both explored the bluegrass scene. This was Jerry's "foundation" for his musical contributions to the Grateful Dead. Without Jerry's influence, the Grateful Dead would not have it's distinct earthy timbre or feel that has been extremely significant in attracting their particular following. Another contribution to the Dead's style was bassist Phil Lesh. With only formal jazz training on the trumpet, Lesh picked up a bass and learned as he went while playing with the Grateful Dead's then nucleus, The Warlocks. Lesh is famous for his jazz improvisational style. This particular style usually finds his fingers running up and down the neck of a five or six string bass (seen right), dropping what are affectionately known to fans as "Phil Bombs", furiously low frequency notes that tend to rumble in auditoriums and can only be created with a five or six string bass. As one can well imagine, these two aforementioned styles together could create somewhat of an interesting style. Well, it only gets better. Bill Kreutzmann, the "heartbeat" of the Grateful Dead, had been behind a kit since the age of eleven when Jerry Garcia met him in 1962. His early love of drums allowed him to be heavily involved in the "rock and roll" scene. As a teen, Kreutzmann even created rock in roll bands in which to play, as the interest was barely there. • 7. The Grey Album Essay A Case Study of The Grey Album by DJ Danger Mouse: Does Copyright Law Inhibit Creativity in Music? The Grey Album Brian Burton aka DJ Danger Mouse published The Grey Album, his acclaimed mashup in 2004. The Grey Album combined raps from Jay–Z's The Black Album with instrumentals from The Beatles self titled album (commonly referred to as the White Album). Burton's 200 hours of work paid off and although only 3,000 copies of the record were originally pressed, the album was released to the web and downloaded over 100,000 times, unofficially becoming one of the most popular albums at the time of its release. In 2007 the city of New York recognized that 1520 Sedgwick Avenue was eligible for status in the state and national registry of historic sites as the birthplace of hip–hop. However, the story is much more complicated than that; although Clive Campbell aka DJ Kool Herc made a name for himself, it would not be until 1974 when Campbell extended the break of a song, "and when I extended the break, people were ecstatic, because that was the best part of the record to dance to, and they were trippin' off it." The technique of isolating the instrumental tracks was popular in Jamaican dub music, however Campbell was the first to use two identical records to extend the break. This "beat break" separated Campbell from other DJ's and set – what would later be called – hip–hop apart from dub. DJ Afrika Bambaataa describes the beat break as, "that certain part of the record that everybody waits for – they just let their inner self go and get wild," In addition to the beat break, Campbell also helped introduce toasting – an early precursor to rapping in which an MC speaks over music – to the genre; toasting was used by Campbell's friend Coke La Roc at the Sedgwick houseparty to the enamoration of the ... The idea of contradiction–based balance between the two characters is present here as well. Chiaki is initially presented as the standard heroine–based loved interest for Hajime to pursue. Not only is she nice to Hajime, inviting him to hang out and work together, but also she is physically attractive, being presented with a cute face and curvy figure under her school uniform. Hajime also expresses attraction to Chiaki when she, along with the other girls, puts on a swimsuit to go down to the beach. However, Chiaki herself removes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conversely, as Chiaki moves out of the traditional heroine, love interest role within the narrative, Nagito begins to fill it. Mostly due to the popularity of Nagito's character, the developers have placed many of the traditional female "fan service" gags on to him. In addition to having Nagito appear on many of the promotional material in his normal island outfit, Danganronpa also had him appear in other traditionally female outfits, such as a kimono and a servant outfit. Furthermore, he receives these gags inside the story as well; for example the character gets an over exaggerated shower scene in Danganronpa: The End of Hope's Peak Academy – Despair Side. Nagito also has received his own mini–album, several song–based vocal tracks preformed by the character's voice actor. These mini–albums are traditionally given to female characters, due to the fact that many female anime characters are presented with the ability to sing well because it makes them more attractive. The songs included on the album include two love songs, one directed to an ambiguous male individual and the second directed to Hajime specifically. Moreover, the way that Nagito talks about Hajime imparts a more romantic aspect to the two boys' relationship than the relationship between Hajime and Chiaki. In Nagito's fifth free time event, when trying to confess his feelings to Hajime, Nagito uses the verb "aishiteru" to mean love. However, "aishiteru" is an extreme form of romantic ... Drown Dreams Other Animals is a quartet led by German brothers Peter and Bernhard Meyer, guitarist and bassist, respectively, who take all the credit for the twelve compositions of the band's debut album. They are joined by the Berlin–based saxophonist Wanja Slavin and the American drummer Jim Black, a pivotal figure in the New York jazz scene. The animated beat that introduces "Drown Dreams", an oblique, dreamy, chamber pop song, doesn't dissemble some solemnity attached to its melody and harmonic conduction. There are a few grey clouds encircling it, but also some sunrays that make the liberation possible. Exclusively on this tune, Slavin plays synth and flutes. The sluggish drum chops of "Name of Cold Country", sparse yet well coordinated with the bass lines, go along with the melodious saxophone and soaring electronic effects. During the time these were released, Tesfaye was completely mysterious, nobody knowing his real identity. This worked immaculately well with the themes of his music, dark, sulky songs about meaningless sex and drug use. It was a more revealing, less–glamorous side of R&B compared to the mainstream of the genre, this making the Weeknd the next big thing. It all started in 2012, with the debut of Trilogy, a remastered collection of his original 2011 mixtapes. However, many fans felt the more polished version took away from what initially made them latch onto Tesfaye's work on songs like "Wicked Games." But to grow you must move forward. Tesfaye made a 180 and changed roles into a pop star when he released "Earned It" in 2014, lead single from the soundtrack to Fifty Shades Of Grey. It is rumored to be his final public work and fortunately for his fans provides closure for some of the themes from MMLP. The song "Bad Guy" in MMLP2 is told from the perspective of a crazed fan's little brother Michael and it provides closure for the song "Stan" from MMLP. The second track "Parking Lot" is a continuation from "Criminal" in MMLP. Between the second and third verses of "Criminal" lays a skit about Em robbing a bank and then "Parking Lot" is a short skit that brings the scene to a close as he runs off with sirens blaring in the background. "Rhyme or reason" is delivered with his usual hatred as he lets out his demons and raps about, among other things, his father or more accurately his lack of a father. He raps that his "mother reproduced like a komodo dragon" to illustrate his lack of a father even as early as birth also that his mother served as both a mother and a father. Komodo dragons have the ability to reproduce asexually. When they do so the result is always a male. Track Four: "So much better" has a beat similar to "Criminal" from MMLP. It almost has the same effect as if it were the instrumental part of "Criminal" at a slower pace. Em encapsulates his emotions towards his romantic relationships as well as hip hop in this song. The music from the EP licensed to MTV and featured in a Lions Gate film. Lucid Grey released their full length album "Eucatastrophe" in 2011, the album contained eighteen songs. On the cd case I was given it has suggested tracks and the fourth song "Shatter" is recommended and it is the highest rated song of the album on iTunes so it must be good. Paint is poisonous and could kill you, but it is not far off from what drugs do to the human body. Drugs affect people's mood but the overall effect to the body is horendous. The mop–top is "It is a straight cut – collar–length at the back and over the ears at the sides, with a straight fringe (bangs)". At first people thought it was dumb but eventually realized it was awesome but it was still mocked by adults. The mop–top was first created in the 1950's when someone named Jürgen Vollemer left his hair down after he went swimming, and he didn't want to comb it. Jürgen liked this style on him so the next day he recreated it and the mop–top was born (at this time it wasn't called anything). Another contribution to the Dead's style was bassist Phil Lesh. With only formal jazz training on the trumpet, Lesh picked up a bass and learned as he went while playing with the Grateful Dead's then nucleus, The Warlocks.
